Description

[0001] Side handle for an electric hand tool

[0002] The present invention relates to a side handle for an electric handheld power tool. The side handle comprises a gripping area designed for gripping by a user and a clamping unit. The clamping unit allows the side handle to be releasably attached to a machine neck of the handheld power tool, wherein the clamping unit comprises an operating element by means of which the clamping unit can be clamped and released.

[0003] Side handles of the type mentioned above are generally known from the prior art. EP 1 974 867 B1 discloses a handle for a handheld power tool with a pair of clamping halves, an operating device having an operating part suitable for opening and closing the clamping halves relative to the holding part, and a handle body configured for gripping by an operator. Such side handles are subjected to high mechanical stress due to being firmly clamped to a power tool, which places a great deal of strain on all components of the side handle, and in particular on the handle. This mechanical stress can often lead to damage to individual components or to complete failure of the side handle.

[0004] It is an object of the present invention to solve the problem described above and in particular to provide a better or more resilient side handle.

[0005] The object is achieved by the subject matter of independent patent claim 1. Advantageous embodiments of the subject matter according to the invention are described in the dependent patent claims.

[0006] The object is thus achieved by a side handle for an electric handheld power tool. The side handle has a gripping area designed for gripping by a user and a clamping unit. By means of the clamping unit, the side handle can be releasably fastened to a machine neck of the handheld power tool, wherein the clamping unit has an operating element by means of which the clamping unit can be clamped and released. According to the invention, the clamping unit essentially contains a clamping lever, a clamping element, a counter-clamping element and a connecting device. When the clamping unit is clamped, a force flow runs through the clamping unit and the counter-clamping element is movable relative to the handle area.

[0007] This can reduce the mechanical load on the side handle.

[0008] According to a further advantageous embodiment, it may be possible for the gripping area to contain at least one guide element through which the counter-clamping element can be guided in at least one direction.

[0009] According to a further advantageous embodiment, it may be possible for the guide element to contain a through-bore so that the counter-clamping element can be guided in an axial direction.

[0010] According to a further advantageous embodiment, it may be possible for the clamping element to be designed as a first locking sleeve.

[0011] According to a further advantageous embodiment, it may be possible for the clamping element to contain a helical link with at least a first and a second section, wherein the first section has a first pitch and the second section a second pitch, and wherein the first pitch is greater than the second pitch. In other words, the first pitch can be designed to be stiffer than the second pitch. Due to the large pitch, a relatively large axial distance can be covered by a relatively small rotational movement of the clamping element. In comparison, with the small pitch, a relatively large rotational movement must be covered for a relatively small axial distance. Due to the two different pitches on the link of the clamping element, a different effect can be achieved when turning the clamping lever or when clamping the clamping unit.

[0012] According to a further advantageous embodiment, it may be possible for the counter-clamping element to be designed as a second locking sleeve.

[0013] According to a further advantageous embodiment, it may be possible for the connecting device to contain a first and a second connecting piece.

[0014] According to a further advantageous embodiment, it may be possible for the closure element to be designed as a twist lock.

[0015] It has proven advantageous if the operating element is designed as a clamping lever. In a particularly preferred embodiment, the clamping lever is arranged on the side handle so that it can rotate about a rotation axis with respect to the gripping area. The rotation axis preferably runs perpendicular to a working axis of the handheld power tool when the side handle is attached to the handheld power tool. In a further particularly preferred embodiment, the rotation of the clamping lever about the rotation axis is limited to 360 degrees, preferably to 110 degrees. In this regard, it has been recognized that with prior art side handles, it is typically necessary to rotate the operating element several times and take a long time in order to adjust and move the side handle to the desired position both about the working axis of the handheld power tool and along the tilt axis.In other words, with state-of-the-art side handles, a tensioning strap which is rotated several times, i.e. by more than 360 degrees, by a tensioning screw which interacts with the operating part.

[0016] It has proven advantageous to provide a stop on the clamping lever, which is preferably complementary to a counter-stop provided on the handle area. The handle area can have a hollow profile or can be essentially formed by one.

[0017] The clamping unit can have two cylindrical-segment-shaped clamping bodies, each oriented coaxially with a clamping screw of the clamping unit running along the rotational axis. The clamping unit preferably has a clamping band holder and a clamping band provided for encircling the machine neck. Preferably, one of the cylindrical-segment-shaped clamping bodies is formed integrally with the clamping lever or at least connected thereto in a rotationally fixed manner. The clamping band holder can have two holding bodies, preferably exactly two holding bodies. The clamping screw can be connected to the clamping lever in a rotationally fixed manner, for example, via a hexagon.

[0018] In a particular embodiment, the clamping strap is suspended or can be suspended from the clamping strap holder. Advantageously, the clamping strap is designed without a through-hole intended for a clamping screw. This has the advantage that the side handle can be pre-assembled at the factory and can be mounted on hand-held power tools whose tool holder has a larger diameter than their machine neck simply by unhooking or re-hooking the clamping strap. With state-of-the-art side handles, such circumstances typically require essentially complete disassembly of the side handle, or at least of the clamping unit. The advantageous design of the clamping strap holder with a suspendable clamping strap can save time and thus also costs during assembly. It has also proven advantageous if the clamping band holder has a recess recessed in the radial direction with a retaining lug, such that instead of the suspended clamping band with a first diameter, a second clamping band with a second diameter different from the first can be suspended. The retaining lug can have a spring contact surface whose curvature is greater than a clamping surface of the clamping band holder that is in contact with the machine neck. Advantageously, one and the same clamping band holder can be used for handheld power tools with different machine neck diameters. Advantageously, a system is provided comprising a side handle with a plurality of clamping bands of different diameters, wherein each of the clamping bands can be suspended in one and the same clamping band holder.

[0019] In a further preferred embodiment, the tensioning band holder has two holding bodies lying coaxially to one another, wherein at least one of the holding bodies can be clamped to one of the cylindrical segment-shaped clamping bodies via a cone-hollow cone pairing. A second of the holding bodies can be clamped to a handle end piece of the side handle via a cone-hollow cone pairing. The handle end piece can be formed integrally with a handle area. The cone-hollow cone pairing can be assigned a cone formed on the second clamping body and / or a hollow cone formed on the first holding body, or vice versa. A cone-hollow cone pairing can be provided between the handle end piece and the second holding body.

[0020] The clamping band holder may have, on a side facing the machine neck, at least one surface section which, relative to the remaining part of the clamping holder, has an increased coefficient of friction and / or an increased modulus of elasticity.

[0021] According to another independent protected subject matter, a side handle for an electric handheld power tool is provided, wherein the side handle has a gripping region designed for gripping by a user and a clamping unit by means of which the side handle can be releasably fastened to a machine neck of the handheld power tool, wherein the clamping unit has an operating element by means of which the clamping unit can be clamped and released. The clamping unit further has a clamping band holder and a clamping band provided for enclosing the machine neck, wherein the clamping band is suspended in the clamping band holder and is preferably designed free of a through-bore intended for a clamping screw. The clamping band holder can have a recess recessed in the radial direction with a retaining lug such that, instead of the suspended clamping band with a first diameter, a second clamping band with a second diameter different from the first can be suspended. The retaining lug preferably has a spring contact surface whose curvature is greater than a clamping surface of the clamping band holder in contact with the machine neck. The side handle can be configured accordingly using the features described with reference to the exemplary embodiments of the side handle according to the invention.

[0022] According to a further independent protected subject matter, a side handle for an electric hand-held power tool is provided, wherein the side handle has a gripping region designed for gripping by a user and a clamping unit by means of which the side handle can be releasably fastened to a machine neck of the hand-held power tool, wherein the clamping unit has an operating element by means of which the clamping unit can be clamped and released. The clamping band holder can have, on a side facing the machine neck, at least one surface section which, relative to the remaining part of the clamping holder, has an increased coefficient of friction and / or an increased modulus of elasticity. The side handle can be configured accordingly by the features described with reference to the exemplary embodiments of the side handle according to the invention.

[0023] According to another independent protected subject matter, a side handle for an electric handheld power tool is provided, wherein the side handle has a gripping area designed for gripping by a user and a clamping unit by means of which the side handle can be releasably fastened to a machine neck of the handheld power tool, wherein the clamping unit has an operating element by means of which the clamping unit can be clamped and released. The clamping unit can have two cylindrical-segment-shaped clamping bodies, each oriented coaxially to a clamping screw of the clamping unit running in the rotational axis, and further have a clamping band holder with two coaxially arranged holding bodies, wherein at least one of the holding bodies can be clamped to one of the cylindrical-segment-shaped clamping bodies via a cone-hollow cone pairing. The side handle can be configured accordingly using the features described with reference to the exemplary embodiments of the side handle according to the invention. [0045] Examples of implementation:

[0046] A preferred embodiment of a side handle 1 according to the invention for an electric machine tool 2, for example a chisel hammer, is shown in Figure 1.

[0047] The machine tool 2 designed as a chisel hammer essentially contains a housing 3, a main handle 4 and a tool holder 5, see Figure 1.

[0048] The housing 3 has a front end 3a, a rear end 3b, a top side 3c, and a bottom side 3d. Positioned at the front end 3a of the housing 3 is the tool holder 5, which in turn is designed to receive and hold a tool 6 configured as a chisel.

[0049] The interior of the machine tool 2 contains, among other things, a drive, an impact device, a gear, and a control device. However, the drive, impact device, gear, and control device are not shown in the figures.

[0050] At the front end 3a of the housing 3 and near the tool holder 5, a machine neck 7 is provided, to which the side handle 1 can be mounted. The side handle 1 serves as an additional holding and guiding means for holding and guiding the machine tool 2.

[0051] The side handle 1 is shown in detail in Figures 2 to 8 and essentially contains a clamping unit 8 with a grip area 9, a clamping lever 10, a closure cap 11, a clamping element 12, a clamping screw 13, a counter-clamping element 14, a connecting device 15, a clamping band 36 and a closure element 17.

[0052] The clamping lever 10 includes an operating element 18 at a first end 10a of the clamping lever 10 and a driver element 19 at a second end 10b of the clamping lever 10. The driver element 19 serves to interact with the clamping element 12 and has a circular receiving area 20 with two opposing elevations 20a, 20b. The elevations 20a, 20b can also be referred to as cams.

[0053] The clamping screw 13 is elongated or cylindrical and serves essentially to hold together or support the clamping unit 8. At a first end 13a there is a screw head 21 and at a second end 13b there is a thread 22 for a screw nut 23.

[0054] The clamping element 12 is designed as a first locking sleeve in the present embodiment. As shown in Figures 12 to 18, the clamping element 12 designed as a first locking sleeve includes a cylindrical base body 24, a ramp device 25 at a first end 24a of the base body 24, and a crown toothing 26 at a second end 24b of the base body 24. Three anti-rotation devices 27 in the form of elevations are positioned on the outer circumferential surface of the base body 24 of the first locking sleeve 12 (see Figures 17 and 18). The ramp device 25 serves to interact with the driver element 19 of the clamping lever 10 and, in the present embodiment, is designed as a helical link 28 with two ramp elements 29. The helical link can also be referred to as a spiral, helical, or screw-shaped link. The helix-shaped backdrop can also be referred to as a backdrop or ramp device with two helix-shaped ramp elements.

[0055] As shown in Figure 17, the helical link 28 according to the present embodiment has a first and a second section 30, 31, wherein the first section 30 has a first pitch and the second section 31 has a second pitch, and wherein the first pitch is greater than the second pitch. In other words, the first pitch can be made stiffer than the second pitch. Due to the large pitch, a relatively large axial distance can be covered by a relatively small rotational movement of the clamping element 12. In comparison, with the small pitch, a relatively large rotational movement must be covered for a relatively small axial distance. Due to the two different pitches on the link 28 of the clamping element 12, a different effect can be achieved when rotating the clamping lever 10 or when clamping the clamping unit 8.

[0056] In the present embodiment, the counter-clamping element 14 is designed as a second locking sleeve. As shown in Figures 6 to 8, the counter-clamping element 14 designed as a second locking sleeve comprises a cylindrical base body 32 with a crown toothing 33 at one end 32a of the base body 32. Three anti-rotation devices 34 in the form of raised portions are also positioned on the outer surface of the base body 32 of the second locking sleeve 14. Anti-rotation devices 35 in the form of raised portions are also positioned on the inner wall of the base body 32 of the second locking sleeve 14.

[0057] The connecting device 15 essentially serves as a clamping band holder for receiving and holding a clamping band 36 and includes a first and second connecting piece 15a, 15b. Both the first and second connecting pieces 15a, 15b each include a cylindrical base body 37 with a central through-bore 38 and an arcuate guide arm 39. As indicated in Figure 7, each base body 37 has a blind bore 40 laterally offset from the central through-bore 38. The first and second connecting pieces 15a, 15b are essentially identical in the present embodiment. These arcuate guide arms 39 serve to guide the essentially circular clamping band 36 and to ensure that the connecting pieces 15a, 15b fit snugly against the machine neck 7 of the machine tool 2.

[0058] As indicated in Figures 2 and 3, the clamping band 36 can have different diameters for correspondingly different diameters of a machine neck 7.

[0059] To receive and hold the corresponding ends of the tensioning band 36, each curved guide arm 39 has a locking element 41 at a free end (see Figure 7). The correspondingly curved ends of the tensioning band 36 can be hooked onto the locking element 41. The curved ends of the tensioning band 36 can also be referred to as hooks. A crown toothing 42 is provided at a first end of each cylindrical base body 37. This crown toothing 42 on a connecting piece 15a, 15b is configured to correspond to the crown toothing 26, 33 on the first and second locking sleeves 12, 14, respectively. As additionally described below, the corresponding crown toothing 42 on the connecting pieces 15a, 15b and on the locking sleeves 12, 14 serves to provide a releasable anti-rotation lock between the locking sleeves 12, 14 and the connecting pieces 15a, 15b.A pin 43 is positioned at a second end of each cylindrical base body 37 of the first and second connecting pieces 15a, 15b. The pin 43 is laterally offset from the central through-bore 38 and, with respect to the central through-bore 38, is positioned opposite the blind hole 40 at the first end of the base body 37. If, as indicated in Figures 6 to 8, the two connecting pieces 15a, 15b are arranged opposite one another, the free end of the pin 43 can be brought from the first connecting piece 15a into the correspondingly designed blind hole 40 of the second connecting piece 15b. By connecting the pin 43 to the blind hole 40, mutual rotation of the two connecting pieces 15a, 15b relative to one another is prevented.

[0060] The closure element 17 is essentially designed as a twist lock or screw and serves as a sealing means at the lower end of the clamping unit 8 and as a receiving element for the thread and the screw nut of the clamping screw 13.

[0061] The gripping area 9 is arcuate and includes a first and second end 9a, 9b. As can be seen particularly in Figure 8, a sleeve element 44 is provided at the first end 9a and a guide element 45 at the second end 9b. The sleeve element 44 at the first end 9a is essentially designed in two parts with a first and second ring element 46, 47. The first ring element 46 contains three recesses 48, which are designed to correspond to the three anti-rotation devices 27 of the clamping element 12. The guide element 45 at the second end 9b is designed as a through-bore with three recesses 49. The recesses 49 are designed to correspond to the three anti-rotation devices 34 on the counter-clamping element 14, see Figure 8.

[0062] As shown in Figures 6 to 8, to assemble the side handle 1, the clamping element 12, designed as a first locking sleeve, is positioned in the first ring element 47 of the handle area 9. The clamping lever 10 is positioned on the handle area 9 such that the driver element 19 is aligned with the circular receiving area 20 in the second ring element 47. The first and second connecting pieces 15a, 15b of the connecting device 15 are arranged opposite one another between the first ring element 46 and the guide element 45. The counter-clamping element 14, designed as a second locking sleeve, is positioned in the guide element 45, designed as a through-bore.

[0063] The clamping screw 13 is guided with the second end 13b from above in direction A through the sleeve element 44 of the handle area 9, the driver element 19 of the clamping lever 10, the clamping element 12, the first and second connecting pieces 15a, 15b, the counter-clamping element 14.

[0064] In the assembled state of the side handle 1, the crown toothing 42 of the first connecting piece 15a engages with the crown toothing 26 of the clamping element 12 and the crown toothing 42 of the second connecting piece 15b engages with the crown toothing 33 of the counter-clamping element 14, see Figures 2, 3, 5 and 20.

[0065] The screw nut 23 is mounted on the first end 13a of the clamping screw 13, onto the thread 22 and the closure element 17. The closure cap 11 closes the corresponding opening on the closure element 17.

[0066] In Figures 2 to 4 and 19, the side handle 1 or the clamping unit 8 is shown in a clamped state. In the clamped state, the side handle 1 is fixedly or immovably mounted on the machine neck 7 of the machine tool 2 and cannot be rotated relative to the machine neck 7, so that the side handle 1 can be used to hold and guide the machine tool 2. As can be seen in the corresponding figures, in the clamped state the operating element 18 of the clamping lever 10 rests ergonomically advantageously in a corresponding recess on the handle area 9. Due to the special design of the driver element 19, the two elevations press on the rising sections of the helical ramp elements 29 of the clamping element 12, so that the driver element 19 presses the clamping element 12 in direction A and against the direction of rotation DR as well as around the axis of rotation DA. Because the clamping element 12 is moved in direction A oris pressed, the clamping element 12 presses with its crown toothing 26 onto the crown toothing 42 of the first connecting piece 15a. This in turn moves the first connecting piece 15a in direction A towards the second connecting piece 15b or the two connecting pieces 15a, 15b towards one another, so that the clamping band 36 connected to the connecting pieces 15a, 15b is pulled together or the diameter of the clamping band 36 is reduced. As shown in Figure 5, a force flow KF runs only through the clamping unit 8 and not through the handle area 9. By pulling the clamping band 36 together, the friction on the machine neck 7 of a machine tool 2 is increased to such an extent that the side handle 1 is firmly connected to the housing 3 of the machine tool 2.

[0067] Figure 20 shows the side handle 1 or the clamping unit 8 in a relaxed state. In the relaxed state, the diameter of the clamping band 36 is enlarged, so that the side handle 1 can be rotated relative to the machine neck 7 or removed from the machine neck 7.

[0068] To release the side handle 1 or the clamping unit 8, the clamping lever 10 is rotated in the direction of rotation DR about the axis of rotation DA, so that the elevations 20a, 20b of the driver element 19 slide down the slopes of the ramp elements 29 of the clamping element 12 in direction A and no more pressure is exerted by the driver elements 19 on the ramp elements 29. As a result, the clamping element 12 and also the first connecting piece 15a can be moved against the direction A. The two connecting pieces 15a, 15b can be moved away from each other without the pressure of the driver element 19 on the clamping element 12, so that the clamping band 36 connected to the connecting pieces 15a, 15b is relaxed or the diameter of the clamping band 36 is increased. The clamping element 12 is moved in direction A relative to the sleeve element 44 of the handle area 9 and the counter-clamping element 14 is moved in direction A relative to the guide element 45 of the handle area 9.

[0069] The handle portion 10 can be made of, or comprise, polypropylene, ABS, polyamide, or polyurethane, for example. The clamping lever 10 can be made of the same material as the handle portion 9. The clamping lever 10 can be made of, or comprise, a thermoplastic elastomer (TPE).
