AI Technical Summary
Existing vehicle seat airbag deployment systems with tether mechanisms often have tensioning devices located in the backrest, which can affect the airbag's deployment process and positioning, limiting flexibility and efficiency.
The tensioning device for the tether arrangement is relocated from the backrest to the seat pan, allowing for greater control over the deployment process and positioning of the airbag by using a straight-line accelerable tightening element, such as a piston-driven tightener tube, which can deflect the tether arrangement by up to 180°, enabling more effective guiding of the airbag during and after deployment.
This configuration lowers the center of gravity of the seat, allows for more precise control over airbag deployment and positioning, and enables the airbag to be effectively guided to desired sections of the vehicle seat, enhancing occupant safety and deployment efficiency.

Abstract
Description
[0001] vehicle seat
[0002] Description
[0003] The invention relates to a vehicle seat for a motor vehicle, comprising a backrest, a seat and an airbag device, wherein the airbag device has at least one airbag module and at least one retaining strap mechanism, wherein the at least one airbag module comprises at least one airbag and the retaining strap mechanism comprises at least one retaining strap arrangement and at least one tensioning device for the retaining strap arrangement, wherein one end of the retaining strap arrangement is attached to the airbag.
[0004] Such a vehicle seat with a safety strap mechanism is known, for example, from US 2019 / 0248322 A1. The airbag, which is arranged in the lateral region of a backrest in the initial state, deploys next to and / or in front of an occupant sitting on the vehicle seat after it is triggered. It can be provided that the safety strap arrangement guides the deployment process at least temporarily during the deployment of the airbag, for example, if the safety strap arrangement is in a tensioned state. It is also conceivable that the safety strap arrangement is unwound from a spool during deployment or is tensioned from a wound or folded state by the deploying airbag.
[0005] The tensioning device arranged in the backrest according to US 2019 / 0248322 A1 is intended to retract the retaining strap arrangement during deployment or at the end of the deployment process, thus influencing the deployment process or bringing the airbag into a final position after deployment. For example, a section of the airbag mounted in front of the occupant after deployment can be pulled toward the backrest by the tensioning device, so that the occupant is also pulled toward the backrest. For example, it is known from US 2019 / 0248322 A1 to wind up the retaining strap arrangement by means of the tensioning device through a rotational movement.
[0006] The object of the present invention is to provide an alternative way of tightening the tether arrangement.
[0007] A solution to the problem is specified in independent claim 1, wherein further solutions and advantageous developments are specified in the subclaims and in the preceding and following description, wherein individual features of the advantageous developments can be combined with one another in a technically expedient manner.
[0008] The problem is solved in particular by a vehicle seat with the features mentioned above, in which the tensioning device is arranged on the seat.
[0009] In other words, the basic concept of the invention is that the tensioning device is not located in the backrest and thus adjacent to the airbag module, but rather that the tensioning device for the tether assembly is located on the seat of the vehicle seat. The center of gravity of the seat is thus positioned lower. The tether assembly, which can be tightened by the tensioning device, can be directed to other sections of the vehicle seat via appropriate guides.
[0010] The seat of a vehicle seat usually comprises a solid basic structure (e.g. a type of frame) called the seat pan and upholstery that covers the seat pan at least on its upper side.
[0011] It can now be provided that the tensioning device is attached to a seat pan of the seat. The tensioning device is thus fixed directly above the seat pan when installed in a vehicle. In principle, the tensioning device can be arranged on the underside of the seat pan and attached thereto. Alternatively, the tensioning device can be attached to one side of the seat pan. However, it is preferred that the tensioning device be arranged above a seat pan of the seat and, in particular, is directly connected to the seat pan.
[0012] The tensioning device can be arranged in the seat upholstery. The tensioning device is thus at least partially surrounded by the seat upholstery, for which purpose the upholstery can have recesses for accommodating the tensioning device.
[0013] The tensioning device preferably comprises a tensioning element which can be accelerated in a straight line and which can be accelerated in particular by means of a pyrotechnic drive.
[0014] The tensioning device can, for example, comprise a tensioning tube in which a piston is arranged. A compressed gas can be introduced into the tensioning tube, for example, using a gas generator, which drives the piston through the tensioning tube. The piston, which is arranged in particular in the tensioning tube, is connected to the tensioning element, for example, via a piston rod, so that the tensioning element is directly driven by acceleration of the piston.
[0015] The tensioning device is coupled, in particular, via the tensioning element to the tether arrangement such that the tether arrangement is deflected by the tensioning element at least before and / or during the tensioning process. The sections arranged in front of and behind the tensioning element in the direction of the tether are therefore arranged at an angle to one another. For example, the tether arrangement can be deflected by the tensioning element by more than 60°, preferably more than 90° or approximately 180°. The degree of deflection can be constant during the tensioning process, but can also change during the tensioning process. In a preferred embodiment, a deflection of 180° takes place by means of the tensioning element, which does not change during the tensioning process.
[0016] In particular, in this context, it can be provided that the tether arrangement is fixed on one side of the tensioning device and is guided on the opposite side of the tensioning device for a tensioning movement in a guide having, for example, an opening. Preferably, the tether arrangement extends laterally offset from the tensioning device, parallel to the rectilinear movement direction of the tensioning element. The tether arrangement extends, in particular, parallel to the rectilinear movement direction of the tensioning element before and preferably also during the tensioning process.
[0017] The tether assembly and the linearly accelerating tensioning element are arranged relative to one another in such a way that a type of pulley is formed, in which the tensioning element forms the moving deflection element. The linearly accelerating tensioning element and the tether assembly are arranged in such a way that the end of the tether assembly attached to the airbag travels a greater distance during the tensioning process than the linearly accelerated tensioning element. For this purpose, the tether mechanism can comprise one or more deflectors for the tether assembly.
[0018] The tensioning device is arranged in particular such that the tensioning element can be accelerated in the lateral direction of the seat. In a typically installed state in a vehicle, the rectilinear acceleration direction of the tensioning element runs transversely, preferably orthogonally, to the vehicle's longitudinal direction.
[0019] Each safety strap assembly can be made from a single safety strap or safety rope, which is particularly made from a tensile-resistant fabric. However, the safety strap assembly can also be made from several interconnected safety straps / safety ropes.
[0020] In a preferred embodiment, it can be provided that the piston rod of the tensioning device is made up of multiple parts, in particular two parts. The multiple parts are arranged telescopically relative to one another. Compared to a single-part piston rod, a multi-part and telescopic piston rod has the advantage that a tensioning element coupled to the piston rod can cover a greater distance with the same length of the tensioning tube. In the initial state, the telescopically arranged parts of the piston rod are pushed into one another and are moved towards one another in their axial direction by the application of pressure, so that a travel for the tensioning element is almost twice as long. In other words, all parts of the piston rod are driven by the compressed gas.
[0021] It can be provided that the tensioning element is attached directly to the piston rod of the tensioning device. However, one embodiment proposes that a type of cage be attached to the piston rod, with the tensioning element, designed, for example, as a deflection pulley, being arranged in the cage. Furthermore, a guide for the safety strap assembly can be provided in the cage, so that the safety strap assembly is guided along a predetermined path toward and away from the tensioning element.
[0022] In a preferred embodiment, it is provided that the vehicle seat comprises two airbag modules, which are arranged in particular on opposite sides of the backrest, wherein at least one retaining strap arrangement is attached to each airbag of the airbag module.
[0023] In principle, it is possible for multiple safety strap assemblies to be tensioned with just one tensioning device. However, it is preferred that each airbag module be assigned a tensioning device located on the seat.
[0024] The invention also relates to a tether mechanism with a tether arrangement and a tensioning device for a vehicle seat, wherein the above features described with reference to the vehicle seat can be applied to the tether mechanism.
[0025] The invention and the technical environment are explained below using the figures as examples. The figures show schematically

[0027] tensioning devices,
[0028] Figure 2: a tensioning device in a perspective view,
[0029] Figure 3 : the tensioning device in an exploded view and
[0030] Figure 4: the tensioning device in a sectional view.
[0031] The tensioning device shown in Figures 2 to 4 comprises a tensioning tube 6 in which a piston rod 5 is arranged. The piston rod 5 can be accelerated in a straight line by means of a compressed gas generated by a gas generator 7. Attached to the end of the piston rod 5 that protrudes beyond the tensioning tube 6 in the initial state is a cage 8 in which a tensioning element 4 designed as a deflection pulley is mounted.
[0032] The tensioning device 3 is also coupled to a safety strap assembly 2, which is fixed on one side of the tensioning tube 6, is guided from there through the cage 8, and is deflected by the tensioning element 4. The safety strap assembly 2 is guided on the other side through the cage 8 and laterally past the tensioning tube 6. The cage 8 is arranged in a housing 9, so that the cage 8 is protected by the housing 9 during the tensioning movement.
[0033] Figure 1 shows a basic frame of a vehicle seat with a backrest 10 and a seat 11. Figure 1 shows two tensioning devices 3 that are directly attached to a seat pan 1 of the seat 11 of the vehicle seat. The tensioning devices 3 are aligned such that, when installed in a vehicle, the tensioning elements 4 are accelerated orthogonally to a vehicle longitudinal direction. The tether assemblies 2 are each guided by suitable guides to an airbag of an airbag module 12, which are mounted on opposite sides of the backrest 10 of the vehicle seat.
[0034] When triggered, the tensioning element 4 is accelerated in a straight line by means of the piston rod 5, thereby retracting the free end of the tether assembly 2, which is attached to the airbag. The tensioning device 3 forms a type of pulley for the tether assembly 2, so that the tensioning path traveled by the free end of the tether assembly 2 is approximately twice the path traveled by the tensioning element 4. The airbags can be guided by the tether assemblies 2 during deployment or moved into a desired position after deployment by means of the tether assemblies.
