Description

Description Title of the invention: Adhesive composition for glass articles comprising expansion means and laminated automotive glazing comprising such a composition Previous technique

[0001] The present invention belongs to the field of disassembly and recycling of glass articles, in particular laminated glass, especially as used in the automotive field.

[0002] Recycling used glass is now a key issue, particularly concerning the reduction of raw materials for vitrification and the reduction of the environmental footprint of new glass.

[0003] Laminated glass consists of sheets of glass bonded together by means of an adhesive composition deposited to form an interlayer polymeric film, typically based on poly(vinyl butyral) (PVB).

[0004] This type of glass is particularly valued for automotive applications. In the event of breakage, the polymer film maintains the cohesion of the entire glazing and prevents further shards. This type of glazing is therefore mandatory for windshields in modern vehicles. It is also used for sunroofs and side windows.

[0005] However, the difficulty of recycling laminated glass is one of its main disadvantages since it requires the separation of two sheets of glass from an intervening adhesive polymer layer.

[0006] Typically, laminated glass is recycled today by means of a crushing operation. However, at the end of this operation, the following remains in the recovered materials: 20% by weight of glass in the interlayer polymer (such as PVB) and 5% by weight of interlayer polymer (such as PVB) in the glass.

[0007] It is therefore necessary to obtain better separation at the interfaces of the interlayer polymer and the glass when recycling laminated glass in order to improve the quality and quantity of glass recovered, but also to allow recycling of the interlayer polymer, reducing its impact on the cost and durability of a windscreen. Description of the invention

[0008] The present invention aims to remedy all or part of the drawbacks of the prior art, in particular those set out above, by proposing a solution which makes it possible to disassemble the intercalated polymeric film formed from an adhesive composition and the sheets of glass in a laminated glazing.

[0009] To this end, and according to a first aspect, the invention relates to an adhesive composition for glass articles comprising poly(vinyl butyral) (PVB) and an expansion means.

[0010] Such a composition according to the invention is of interest, in particular, in the fact that it allows, in the context of its application as an interlayer in laminated glazing, to weaken on demand the cohesive forces at the interfaces of the PVB and the glass by means of the expansion means it comprises.

[0011] In particular, an adhesive composition according to the invention may include at least one expansion means selected from microcapsules and / or chemical expanding agents.

[0012] The microcapsules implemented in a composition according to the invention consist of a volatile liquid core and a polymer shell.

[0013] The volatile liquid core of the microcapsules vaporizes when subjected to heating, leading to an increase in the volume of the microcapsules and / or a release of said core as a gas into the adhesive composition.

[0014] These microcapsules can be called "expandable microcapsules" because their volume increases when heated to a temperature greater than or equal to the glass transition temperature of the polymer shell and the vaporization temperature of the volatile liquid core. The volume increase resulting from the change in the core's state then creates sufficient pressure to deform the shell.

[0015] The increase in volume of the microcapsules and / or the release of gas in the adhesive composition obtained after heating weakens the cohesive forces at the PVB / glass interfaces and thus promotes the separation of two sheets of glass for disassembly of laminated glazing, in particular for laminated glazing intended for the automotive industry.

[0016] Such microcapsules and their methods of obtaining them are described for example in applications US 3,615,972 A; US 4,049,604 A; US 4,016,110 A; US 4,582,756 A; US 2018 / 0355216 Al; JP H09 / 019,635 A; WO 2002 / 096635 Al; WO 2007 / 142593 Al; EP 0 486 080 Al; EP 0 572 233 Al; EP 1 149 628 Al; EP 1 964 903 Al and EP 1 508 604 Al.

[0017] The shell of the microcapsules is composed of at least one thermoplastic polymer exhibiting a high glass transition temperature, in particular greater than or equal to the vaporization temperature of the liquid core.

[0018] Such polymers are likely to be obtained from the polymerization of at least one monomer selected from (meth)acrylic monomers, aromatic alkenyls, vinyl derivatives, acid monomers and mixtures thereof.

[0019] By (meth)acrylic monomers, we mean monomers with the general formula CH2CH(R')C(O)OR WHERE R is chosen from a C1-C12 alkyl, a C3-C10 cycloalkyl or an aromatic group, optionally substituted by a hydroxy radical or R is a hydrogen atom, and R' is chosen from a hydrogen atom and a methyl.

[0020] Among the (meth)acrylic monomers suitable for the present invention, methyl methacrylate, ethyl acrylate, propyl acrylate, butyl acrylate, butyl methacrylate, propyl methacrylate, lauryl acrylate, 2-ethylhexyl acrylate, ethyl methacrylate, isobomyl acrylate, isobomyl methacrylate, 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate and 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate may be mentioned.

[0021] Aromatic alkenyls are defined as monomers with the general formula Ar-CHCH2, where Ar represents an aromatic hydrocarbon radical, optionally substituted by a halogen.

[0022] Examples of aromatic alkenyls include styrene, orto-methylstyrene, meta-methylstyrene, ara-methylstyrene, ethylstyrene, vinyl xylene, chlorostyrene, bromostyrene and styrene derivatives such as vinylbenzyl chloride and para-tert-butylstyrene.

[0023] Examples of vinyl derivatives include acrylonitrile, methacrylonitrile, vinyl halides, vinyl esters, and vinyl ethers.

[0024] Examples of vinyl halides include vinyl chloride, vinyl bromide, and vinylidene chloride.

[0025] Vinyl esters are meant to refer to compounds with the general formula CH2CHOC(O)R where R is a C1-C17 alkyl.

[0026] Examples of vinyl ester monomers include vinyl acetate, vinyl benzoate, vinyl butyrate, vinyl stearate, vinyl laurate, vinyl myristate, and vinyl propionate.

[0027] Examples of vinyl ethers include methyl vinyl ether, ethyl vinyl ether, propyl vinyl ether, isopropyl vinyl ether, butyl vinyl ether, isobutyl vinyl ether, tert-butyl vinyl ether, sec-butyl vinyl ether and mixtures thereof.

[0028] Examples of acid monomers include acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, itaconic acid, citraconic acid, maleic acid, fumaric acid, and vinylbenzoic acid.

[0029] A thermoplastic polymer of a microcapsule suitable for the invention can be obtained by the copolymerization of several of the monomers mentioned above.

[0030] A thermoplastic polymer of a microcapsule suitable for the invention is typically obtained from acrylonitrile, acrylic ester and / or olefmes.

[0031] In one embodiment of the invention, the microcapsules implemented in a composition according to the invention comprise a shell based on an acrylonitrile copolymer such as the acrylonitrile / methacrylonitrile copolymer or the acrylonitrile / methacrylonitrile / hydroxyethyl methacrylate copolymer.

[0032] In another embodiment of the invention, the microcapsules used in a composition according to the invention comprise a polymeric shell formed from monomers selected from (meth)acrylic, (meth)acrylonitrile monomers and mixtures thereof. Preferably, said shell is obtained by the polymerization of monomers selected from methyl methacrylate, acrylonitrile and mixtures thereof.

[0033] Preferably, the thermoplastic polymer constituting the shell of a microcapsule suitable for the invention has a light transmission greater than or equal to 70%, in particular at least 80% and preferably at least 88%.

[0034] The volatile liquid core of the microcapsules consists of a liquid with a low vaporization temperature. A "low" vaporization temperature for this liquid is less than or equal to the glass transition temperature of the shell polymer.

[0035] The liquid in question can have a vaporization temperature ranging from 50°C to 200°C.

[0036] Such a liquid may be a hydrocarbon such as pentane, neopentane, isopentane, cyclopentane, acetylene, hexane, cyclohexane, methylcyclohexane, heptane, cycloheptane, heptene, octane, isooctane, cyclooctane, octene and mixtures thereof.

[0037] Among hydrocarbons, alkanes that are liquid at room temperature such as pentane, neopentane, isopentane, cyclopentane, hexane, cyclohexane, methylcyclohexane, heptane, cycloheptane, octane, isooctane and cyclooctane are preferred.

[0038] Other compounds suitable for forming the core of microcapsules include tetraalkylsilanes such as tetramethylsilane, trimethylethylsilane, trimethylisopropylsilane and trimethyl-w-propylsilane.

[0039] The microcapsules suitable for the invention can therefore contain a liquid having a low vaporization temperature, in particular chosen from hydrocarbons, and preferably chosen from alkanes.

[0040] In particular, the liquid core of a microcapsule suitable for the invention comprises at least one hydrocarbon, preferably selected from isopentane, pentane, hexane, the cyclohexane, methylcyclohexane, heptane, heptene and mixtures thereof, and preferably selected from isopentane and methylcyclohexane.

[0041] The microcapsules suitable for the invention may comprise from 3% to 50% by weight of volatile liquid and preferably from 5% to 30% by weight of volatile liquid relative to the total weight of a microcapsule.

[0042] The microcapsules suitable for the invention have a dimension, in particular a diameter, less than or equal to 5 pm, in particular less than or equal to 1 pm, and preferably less than or equal to 500 nm.

[0043] When the microcapsules are spherical in shape, the dimension discussed in the previous paragraph corresponds to the diameter of the microcapsules, in particular the average diameter of a set of particles.

[0044] Indeed, the smaller the microcapsules, the better the transparency of an adhesive composition containing them, and therefore of a laminated glass containing it. This is observed by greater light transmission for an adhesive composition containing smaller microcapsules.

[0045] Conversely, an adhesive composition containing microcapsules larger than 5 pm does not offer satisfactory transparency for application in automotive glazing.

[0046] An adhesive composition according to the invention may contain from 1% to 10% by weight of microcapsules as described above relative to the total weight of the adhesive composition, in particular from 2% to 8% by weight and preferably from 3% to 7% by weight of said microcapsules.

[0047] An adhesive composition according to the invention may also include chemical blowing agents as a means of expansion.

[0048] Chemical blowing agents are compounds capable of releasing gas through thermal decomposition. These are well-known and typically used to form polymeric foams.

[0049] Following the same principle as described above, the gas released by these chemical expanding agents weakens the cohesive forces at the PVB / glass interfaces and ensures easy disassembly of laminated automotive glazing.

[0050] The chemical blowing agents suitable for the invention possess carbon / oxygen (CO), nitrogen (NN) and / or nitrogen / sulfur (NS) bonds capable of breaking upon the addition of heat. This rupture results in the release in gaseous form of carbon dioxide (CO2), ammonia (NH3), nitrogen (N2), sulfur dioxide (SO2) and / or water (H2O).

[0051] Chemical blowing agents suitable for the invention may be chosen from carbonates; azo compounds, in particular hydrazides such as azodicarbonamide; hydrazine derivatives; nitroso- and / or tetrazoles compounds.

[0052] Among the carbonates suitable for use as chemical expanding agents according to the invention, we can mention sodium bicarbonate, sodium carbonate and zinc carbonate.

[0053] Among the azo compounds suitable for use as chemical blowing agents according to the invention, azobisisobutyronitrile and hydrazides such as azobicarbonamide and diisopropyl azodicarboxylate can be mentioned.

[0054] Among the hydrazine derivatives suitable for use as a chemical blowing agent according to the invention, mention may be made of semicarbazide; polymeric sulfonic hydrazides such as poly(methacryloyl toluenesulfonylhydrazide); and sulfonylsemicarbazides such as / / ra-tolucens-silfonyl semicarbazide and 4,4'-oxybis(benzenesulfonylsemicarbazide).

[0055] Among the nitroso compounds suitable for use as a chemical blowing agent according to the invention, dinitrosopentamethylenetetramine can be mentioned.

[0056] Among the tetrazoles suitable for use as chemical blowing agents according to the invention, 5-phenyltetrazole and 5-aminotetrazole can be mentioned.

[0057] In a particular embodiment, the adhesive composition according to the invention comprises a phase consisting essentially of PVB, at least one expansion means being located alternatively on the surface of the phase consisting essentially of PVB or in at least one additional phase comprising PVB.

[0058] Thus, the composition according to the invention can take the form of different single- or multi-phase systems.

[0059] In a first embodiment, the composition according to the invention consists of a phase comprising PVB and at least one means of expansion.

[0060] In a second embodiment, the composition according to the invention comprises a phase consisting essentially of PVB on the surface of which is at least one means of expansion.

[0061] Such a composition can for example be obtained by depositing a coating composed of an organic phase, in particular made up of polymers, preferably PVB and expansion means, on the surface of the phase made up of PVB.

[0062] In a third embodiment, the composition according to the invention consists of a first phase comprising PVB and at least one expansion means and a second phase consisting of PVB.

[0063] In a fourth embodiment, the composition according to the invention consists of a first phase comprising PVB and at least one expansion means, a second phase consisting of PVB and a third phase comprising PVB and at least one expansion means.

[0064] A composition according to the third and fourth embodiments can for example be obtained by co-extrusion of an adhesive composition according to the invention and a composition made of PVB.

[0065] The second, third, and fourth embodiments have the advantage of concentrating at least one expansion medium in an area close to, or even at, the interface between the adhesive composition and the substrate to which it adheres, particularly a sheet of glass. This allows for a greater weakening of the cohesive forces between the PVB and the substrate to which it adheres, for example, glass, during disassembly. This improvement can be characterized by the use of a smaller quantity of expansion medium and / or by a reduction in the heating time required to achieve disassembly.

[0066] The invention also relates to a method for obtaining an adhesive composition according to the invention, comprising a step of mixing PVB with a plasticizing composition comprising at least one plasticizer and at least one means of expansion.

[0067] In a process known to those skilled in the art for obtaining a PVB-based adhesive composition, such as an adhesive composition according to the invention, at least one plasticizer is added so as to modify the elastic properties of the adhesive composition, in particular its flexibility and processability.

[0068] Such plasticizers are also known to those skilled in the art and include, for example, phthalates, trimelliates, adipates, sebacates, maleates, epoxidized fatty acids, sulfonamides, organophosphates, polyethers, or mixtures thereof. For example, triethylene glycol (3G8) di-2-ethylhexanoate can be used as a plasticizer in adhesive compositions suitable for the invention.

[0069] The inventors discovered that at least one expansion means included in an adhesive composition according to the invention could be incorporated into it by means of a conventional process for preparing PVB-based adhesive compositions, when adding plasticizer.

[0070] To this end, the process for preparing an adhesive composition according to the invention may include an initial step of mixing at least one plasticizer with at least one means of expansion.

[0071] Thus, in this text, "phase consisting essentially of PVB" means a phase containing no constituents other than those typically found in a PVB-based adhesive composition for glass articles. In this text, a phase consisting essentially of PVB may therefore contain at least one plasticizer and at least one additive such as a colorant or a UV inhibitor.

[0072] In this text, a phase consisting essentially of PVB therefore comprises less than 1% by weight of expanding agent, in particular less than 0.5% by weight and preferably less than 0.1% by weight relative to the total weight of the phase. A phase consisting essentially of PVB is preferably free of expanding agent.

[0073] The invention also relates to a laminated automotive glazing comprising at least two sheets of glass and, as a lamination interlayer, a layer of adhesive composition according to the invention.

[0074] Typically, the main faces of laminated automotive glass are numbered from 1 to 4: - face Fl is the external (outer) face of the outer glass, preferably tinted; - face F2 is the inner face (interlayer side of the lamination) of the outer glass; - the lamination interlayer, here consisting of the adhesive composition according to the invention; - face F3 is the inner face (interlayer side of the lamination) of the inner glass, preferably colorless and often of a thickness less than or equal to that of the outer glass; - face F4 is the inner face (passenger compartment side) of the inner glass.

[0075] In a particular embodiment, the laminated automotive glazing according to the invention comprises a layer of PVB and at least one layer of adhesive composition according to the invention, said layer(s) of adhesive composition being in contact with at least one sheet of glass.

[0076] Such glazing can be obtained using an adhesive composition as described in the third and fourth embodiments described above.

[0077] In a particular embodiment, in the laminated automotive glazing according to the invention, the expansion means are located in contact with at least one sheet of glass.

[0078] Such glazing can be obtained using an adhesive composition as described in the second embodiment described above.

[0079] In these embodiments, the adhesive composition layer and / or the expansion means is / are in contact with face F2 and / or face F3 of the laminated glazing according to the invention.

[0080] Thus, the cohesive forces at the interfaces of the lamination interlayer and the glass can be particularly weakened on demand, while minimizing the amount of expansion means present in the lamination interlayer.

[0081] Laminated glazing according to the invention corresponding to the particular embodiments described above is therefore particularly easily disassembled.

[0082] Furthermore, the use of a small amount of expansion means also minimizes their influence on the optical properties of the glazing according to the invention.

[0083] The laminated glazing according to the invention may have a blur of at most 2%, in particular at most 1.5%, and preferably less than or equal to 1%.

[0084] In the laminated automotive glazing according to the invention, the adhesive composition can have a thickness of 100 pm to 2100 pm, in particular from 300 pm to 1100 pm and preferably from 650 pm to 850 pm.

[0085] In the laminated automotive glazing according to the invention, the glass sheets can have a thickness of 0.1 mm to 6 mm, in particular 0.3 mm to 5 mm and preferably 0.7 mm to 3 mm.

[0086] The glass sheets suitable for laminated automotive glazing according to the invention can be made of mineral glass, in particular chosen from soda-lime, aluminosilicate and borosilicate glasses.

[0087] Preferably, the glass sheets suitable for laminated automotive glazing according to the invention are chosen from soda-lime silico-glasses.

[0088] The glass sheets suitable for laminated automotive glazing according to the invention are preferably colorless, and have a light transmission factor of at least 85%, or even 90%, preferably in accordance with standard EN 410: 1998.

[0089] The glass sheets suitable for laminated automotive glazing according to the invention can be clear glass (with a light transmission of 90% or greater for a thickness of 4 mm), for example, standard soda-lime glass such as Planilux® from Saint-Gobain Glass, or extra-clear glass (with a light transmission of 91.5% or greater for a thickness of 4 mm), for example, soda-lime silico glass with less than 0.05% by weight of Fe III or Fe20s such as Diamant® glass from Saint-Gobain Glass, or Optiwhite® from Pilkington, or B270® from Schott, or other composition described in document WO04 / 025334. Glass sheets suitable for laminated automotive glazing according to the invention may also be made of Planiclear® glass from Saint-Gobain Glass.

[0090] The glass sheets suitable for laminated automotive glazing according to the invention may also be curved and / or tempered glass, in particular thermally tempered, preferably at a temperature greater than or equal to 450 °C, or better greater than or equal to 600 °C.

[0091] In one embodiment of the invention, the laminated automotive glazing according to the invention is a windshield or a roof, in particular a windshield.

[0092] When the laminated automotive glazing according to the invention is a roof, it must meet current automotive specifications in particular for light transmission TL and / or energy transmission TE and / or energy reflection RE and / or for total solar energy transmission TTS.

[0093] For a car roof, since these are often tinted, a non-zero light transmission TL is preferred, and even at least 0.5% or at least 2% and at most 40% and even at most 20%.

[0094] For a car roof, a blur of less than or equal to 2% is preferred.

[0095] For a car roof, one or more of the following criteria are preferred: - A TE of no more than 10% and preferably between 4% and 6%, - RE, particularly on the outer face, towards the outside of the vehicle, of no more than 10%, and preferably between 4% and 5%, - TTS less than 30%, in particular less than 26% and preferably between 20% and 23%.

[0096] When the laminated automotive glazing according to the invention is a windscreen, the light transmission can be greater than or equal to 70%, in particular greater than or equal to 75% and preferably at least 80%.

[0097] When the laminated automotive glazing according to the invention is a windshield, the following configuration can be envisaged: - face Fl is the external (outer) face of the outer glass, preferably colorless or slightly tinted; face F2 is the internal face (interlayer side of the lamination) of the outer glass; the lamination interlayer is the adhesive composition according to the invention, if necessary tinted to compensate for the low tint of the outer glass; - face F3 is the inner face (interlayer side of the lamination) of the inner glass, preferably colorless; - face F4 is the inner face (passenger compartment side) of the inner glass.

[0098] A laminated glazing according to the invention is easily disassembled by heating, which brings heat to the adhesive composition comprising an expansion means, under the effect of which said expansion means increases the total volume of the adhesive composition and weakens the cohesive forces at the interfaces between the adhesive composition and the glass sheets.

[0099] This simplified disassembly is particularly advantageous for the recycling of automotive glass.

[0100] The invention therefore also relates to a method of disassembling a laminated automotive glazing according to the invention, comprising a step of heating the laminated automotive glazing to a temperature of 110 °C to 260 °C, in particular 120 °C to 250 °C and preferably 180 °C to 220 °C for a duration of 0.5 to 10 minutes, in particular 1 to 5 minutes and preferably 1.5 to 3 minutes.

[0101] In one particular embodiment, the heating step is carried out using an oven, a hot air gun, infrared rays, microwaves or induction.

[0102] The disassembly process according to the invention has the advantage of being easily implemented and of allowing the recovery in a short time of the constituent elements of the laminated automotive glazing (adhesive composition and glass sheets) which are not contaminated, that is to say, in which less than 5% by weight of the other constituents of the automotive glazing remain.

[0103] The invention also relates to a method for obtaining laminated automotive glazing according to the invention, comprising a step of applying an adhesive composition according to the invention to one face of a sheet of glass and then a step of placing a second sheet of glass on the adhesive composition.
