Abstract
Description
[0001] Electronics housing
[0002] The invention relates to an electronics housing for accommodating a printed circuit board and a system comprising an electronics housing and a printed circuit board.
[0003] Such electronics housings comprise a first housing part and a second housing part, wherein the housing parts can be joined together along a joining edge in a form-fitting and separable manner, and wherein the housing parts have side walls which adjoin one another at the edges and form a housing shell.
[0004] The electronics housings known from the prior art are used, for example, for machine control systems, vehicle control systems, heating and air conditioning systems, etc. Circuit boards for embedded systems or single-board computers are often inserted into the first housing section, and connection elements connected to the circuit board are routed through openings in the housing sections. Depending on the application, the housings are often designed according to an IP (Ingress Protection) rating to protect the circuit board from external influences such as dust or moisture. For example, the document US 2019 / 0289728 A1 shows a known electronics housing from the prior art.
[0005] However, the electronics housings known from the prior art have the disadvantage that the circuit board must be inserted through an open side, for example, in a mounting direction from above, toward the base of one of the often shell-shaped housing parts, in order to then be secured therein. Mounting circuit boards with connection elements that protrude beyond an edge of the circuit board and must be guided through an opening in the housing parts when assembled is often difficult or even impossible.
[0006] Due to the design, the opening for the connection element often extends between the housing parts, which makes it difficult to effectively seal the interior of the electronics housing against external influences. Furthermore, in many of the electronics housing types known from the prior art, the connection element cannot be inserted into the electronics housing at the same time as the circuit board and must therefore be attached to the circuit board after being inserted into the opening provided for it in the material of the electronics housing. The object of the present invention is to provide an electronics housing that enables simple insertion of a printed circuit board into the electronics housing and enables simple integration of the connection technology connected to the circuit board. Furthermore, the electronics housing provided should be quick, safe, and, if possible, automated to assemble.
[0007] This object is achieved by an article having the features of claim 1.
[0008] Accordingly, a first side wall of the first housing part is formed lower, at least in one region, than a second side wall of the first housing part opposite the first side wall, for inserting the circuit board over the first side wall into the first housing part, and the second side wall has at least one opening for introducing a connection element connected to the circuit board into the opening.
[0009] The first and second housing parts can be designed shell-like and substantially complementary to each other in order to surround a printed circuit board when assembled. A "joining edge" can be understood here as an edge at which the first housing part and the second housing part meet during assembly. The "joining edge" can also be understood as a "joining surface."
[0010] The first housing part and the second housing part have side walls that adjoin one another at the edges and form a housing shell. The housing parts can be shell-like, and the side walls can be arranged transversely, in particular at a right angle, on a respective base surface of the housing parts and enclose a volume. The side surfaces can extend from the base surface to a free end of the housing parts.
[0011] In examples, the base area can be rectangular. Alternatively, the base area can also be polygonal or, particularly in corner regions, partially round. The housing walls can also be arranged at an angle of more or less than 90° on the base area. The joining edge can run along a free end of the side walls, wherein the free end also forms an edge for delimiting an interior space of the housing parts. According to the invention, a first side wall of the first housing part is designed to be lower, at least in one region, than a second side wall of the first housing part opposite the first side wall, for inserting the circuit board over the first side wall into the first housing part.
[0012] The term “lower” can be understood here to mean that a height of the first housing part or at least a region of the first side wall from the base area of the first housing part to the joining edge at the end of the first side wall is lower than the height of the second side wall from the base area of the first housing part to the joining edge at the end of the second side wall.
[0013] The printed circuit board can thus be inserted into the first housing part essentially horizontally to the base area of the first housing part over the joining edge of the first side wall up to the second side wall.
[0014] Furthermore, the second housing wall has at least one opening, which can be understood as a through-hole in the material of the second housing wall and is completely surrounded by the material of the second housing wall. The opening can, for example, be pre-stamped in the material of the second housing wall and pierced to insert the connection element. Furthermore, the "opening" can also be understood as an opening through which a line for connecting the circuit board is routed or formed.
[0015] A connection element arranged on the circuit board, for example, an electrical socket, can thus be inserted into the opening via the first side wall when the circuit board is inserted, thereby enabling electrical contact from outside the electronics housing. In some examples, a plurality of connection elements can be arranged on the circuit board and each inserted into a corresponding opening in the second side wall.
[0016] A connection element arranged on the circuit board can also be understood, for example, as a connection that is available on the outside of the second housing side after the circuit board has been mounted. The circuit board can be connected or can be connected to a conductor leading outside the housing via the connection element. In particular, the conductor can be designed as an electrical conductor or as a fiber optic cable for the transport of signals or data.
[0017] The design of the first housing part described herein advantageously enables easy assembly and disassembly of the circuit board by sliding it into the first housing part. The wedge-shaped side walls also advantageously provide a simple guide for easy insertion and removal of the circuit board. Furthermore, the insertion advantageously allows the circuit board to be connected to the outside. The high design of the second side wall also advantageously seals the connection technology very well, since the opening does not have to extend over two housing parts, but can be made exclusively in the material of the first side wall.
[0018] In one example, the first housing part has fastening means for fastening the circuit board in the first housing part.
[0019] A fastening means can be understood as a means such as a screw or snap-in connection that fixes or positions the circuit board in the first housing part so that the circuit board is no longer movable relative to the first housing part or is only minimally movable, such as in a floating mounting. Typically, the circuit board is first inserted into the first housing part and then secured with the fastening means.
[0020] In examples, the fastening means comprises at least one screw dome, means for forming a snap-in connection for fastening the circuit board in the first housing part, or a screw connection for holding the connection element and the circuit board connected thereto in the opening.
[0021] For example, screw bosses in corner areas of the first housing part can extend from the base, parallel to the side walls, and areas of the circuit board can rest on the screw bosses. After the circuit board has been inserted, screws can be inserted through openings provided in the circuit board to secure the circuit board. Advantageously, such a screw connection can create a particularly durable mechanical connection. Alternatively or additionally, the circuit board can also be held in the first housing part by means of a snap-in connection. For example, snap-in hooks or similar locking elements can be provided on the side walls to accommodate the circuit board.
[0022] Advantageously, such a snap-in connection can be established and released very quickly.
[0023] In a further alternative or in addition to the described embodiments of the fastening means, the fastening means can also have a screw connection adapted to secure the connection element inserted into the opening. For example, the screw connection can be screwed onto an external thread of the connection element protruding from the opening, thus securing the connection element and the circuit board connected to it. Advantageously, if a screw connection is used as the fastening means, the use of additional fastening means arranged in the first housing part can be dispensed with.
[0024] In one example, the fastening means is designed to clamp the circuit board.
[0025] "Clamping" can be understood as holding the circuit board between the housing halves by forming a support at least in part in one housing part and arranging a corresponding hold-down device, which can also be referred to as a "dome," in the other housing part, so that the circuit board is held between the housing parts after they have been joined. Holes can also be provided in the circuit board to allow for easy holding and positioning.
[0026] In one example, third and fourth side walls arranged transversely to the first and second side walls are adapted to guide the circuit board when sliding the circuit board between the first side wall and the second side wall.
[0027] For example, guide grooves for the circuit board can be arranged in the inner surfaces of the third and fourth side walls. Alternatively, the circuit board can simply be guided by a precisely fitting gap between the third and fourth side walls. In one example, at least one guide element is arranged in regions between the first side wall and the second side wall for sliding the circuit board between the first side wall and the second side wall along a guide path of the guide element.
[0028] A guide element can be understood as a web-shaped elevation, a wall projection, a groove, or even a sliding surface, which is arranged, for example, circumferentially on an inner periphery of the first housing element. Alternatively or additionally, the guide element can also be provided as a single web-shaped elevation, wall projection, groove, or sliding surface that runs partially between the first side wall and the second side wall. Depending on the application, the fixing domes can also be used as a guide element.
[0029] Advantageously, such a guide element also simplifies the insertion of the circuit board into the first housing part.
[0030] In one example, a third side wall and a fourth side wall of the first housing part, opposite the third side wall, each adjoin the first side wall and the second side wall at the edges and extend transversely, in particular at right angles, to the first and second side walls. In alternative examples, the side walls can also extend at other angles relative to one another.
[0031] Advantageously, the first housing half can have a rectangular base and be designed to accommodate a rectangular printed circuit board. Alternatively, by using additional, even curved, side walls, interior spaces of other dimensions can be created depending on the desired application.
[0032] In one example, the second housing part has side walls corresponding to the first housing part, for forming a substantially cuboid-shaped electronics housing with base surfaces arranged parallel to one another.
[0033] The term "corresponding side wall" can be understood to mean that in the second housing part, the first side wall is higher than the second side wall, so that the height of the first housing wall of the first housing and the height of the first housing wall of the second housing are equal to the height of the second housing wall of the first housing and the height of the second housing wall of the second housing. Both housing parts can therefore be wedge-shaped and simply assembled into a cuboid electronics housing by joining them at the corresponding joining edges. Thus, the housing parts can also be described as being designed to complement one another.
[0034] Advantageously, such an electronics housing allows for a space-saving accommodation of a circuit board with electronics arranged on it.
[0035] In one example, the joining edge between the third and / or fourth side walls of the housing parts runs at least partially obliquely, arcuately, jaggedly, step-like or stair-like relative to a base area of the housing.
[0036] For example, the angled joining edge can be continuous. A continuous profile can advantageously increase the accuracy of fit and tightness. Alternatively, the angled profile can also have discontinuities. Such discontinuities, in turn, advantageously enable easy joining of the housing parts, and potentially occurring transverse / shear forces can also be counteracted by a discontinuous profile.
[0037] Advantageously, such an at least partially non-parallel course of the joining edge between the third and fourth side walls can compensate for the relative height difference of the first side wall with respect to the second side wall relative to the base area.
[0038] In one example, the electronics housing has a sealing element that can be arranged along the joining edge between the first housing part and the second housing part.
[0039] For example, the sealing element can be made of a plastic material and have a geometry corresponding to the shape of the joining edge in order to be arranged between the two housing parts when the two housing parts are joined together. Advantageously, the arrangement of a sealing element can provide protection against foreign bodies or water ingress. In one example, the first and / or second housing part comprises an insulating material, in particular a plastic material or a metal, in particular a stainless steel, a die-cast zinc material, or an aluminum material.
[0040] For example, the housing parts can be manufactured as a single piece or in a single piece using a casting process. Thus, depending on the intended use, the housing parts can advantageously be made of a material specifically designed for this purpose.
[0041] In one example, the housing parts are designed to be double-walled, at least in some regions, and have an overlapping area at least in some sections of the joining edge. Advantageously, the joining edge in the housing parts can be designed in two parts, at least in some regions, i.e., with an inner joining edge and an outer joining edge, which also extend differently in a vertical direction relative to the base area.
[0042] This allows for increased housing rigidity and increased clearance and creepage distances, improving the insulation of the electronics within the electronics housing from electrostatic charges. This also advantageously enables use in potentially explosive atmospheres.
[0043] In one example, the first housing part and the second housing part each have at least one elongated hole, in particular four elongated holes in corner regions of the housing parts, and wherein at least one connecting element, in particular a screw dome, for connecting the first and second housing parts is arranged in the elongated hole of the first housing part or second housing part.
[0044] The term "slot" can be understood as a cylindrical or oval recess that extends at least partially through the material of the housing parts. The recess can also be understood as an opening that is asymmetrical to at least one extension axis. When the first housing part and the second housing part are joined together, the slots in the housing parts can be designed to correspond to one another, i.e., to be congruent, so that the slots in the housing parts form a common slot when joined together. Advantageously, the housing halves can be screwed together by means of screw domes arranged in the slots of the first and / or second housing part in order to firmly connect the housing parts.
[0045] In some examples, however, locking elements can also be arranged in the elongated holes as an alternative to the screw bosses to connect the two housing halves via a locking connection. In some examples, the electronics housing can also be attached to a substrate using additional fastening means that extend at least partially through the elongated holes.
[0046] In a further example, the electronics housing has a mounting adapter which is adapted to be connectable to the first housing part, wherein the mounting adapter has, on a side facing the first housing part, at least one locking element corresponding to the elongated hole, in particular four locking elements corresponding to the four elongated holes.
[0047] Advantageously, the interconnected housing components can be attached to a reference body, such as a wall, a mounting rail, or a power outlet, via a mounting adapter. The interconnected housing components can also be connected to various mounting elements, such as the mounting structures of a switch box or a VESA adapter, via the mounting adapter, as well as to the mounting structures of a mounting profile or a pipe / mast, both horizontally and vertically.
[0048] In one example, the locking element has a snap-in and / or screw connection.
[0049] Advantageously, the first housing part can be connected to the mounting adapter particularly quickly and easily via a snap-in connection. Depending on the specific application, the snap-in connection can be secured with a screw connection to ensure a secure fit. A screw connection can also be used as an alternative to the snap-in connection if a particularly secure fit is desired. In one example, the first housing part and the second housing part are designed as the same parts, in particular identical.
[0050] Advantageously, manufacturing costs can be reduced by using identical housing components. For example, the housing components can be reworked to form the electronics housing. This allows the second housing component to be used as the first housing component, and the first housing component to be used as the second housing component.
[0051] In one example, the first housing part and the second housing part are connected to one another via a joint, in particular a film hinge.
[0052] Advantageously, the housing parts can be held together securely by the hinge and can be opened. Even if the hinge is damaged, the housing parts can still be used as intended.
[0053] In one example, the first housing part and / or the second housing part has a further opening.
[0054] Advantageously, the additional opening can be window-shaped and serve to accommodate a display. Alternatively or additionally, the opening or an additional opening can serve to install actuating elements, such as switches.
[0055] In one example, the first housing part and / or the second housing part have corresponding connecting elements on outer surfaces of opposite side surfaces in order to be connectable to at least one housing part of another electronics housing.
[0056] Advantageously, several similar electronic housings can be connected to one another by using such connecting elements.
[0057] The invention also relates to a system comprising an electronics housing as described herein, and a circuit board accommodated in the electronics housing with at least one connection element. The concept underlying the invention will be explained in more detail below with reference to the exemplary embodiment illustrated in the figures. They show:

[0059] Embodiment of the invention;
[0060] Fig. 2A - 2E views of the electronics housing with circuit board arranged therein according to the previously shown embodiment of the invention;

[0062] Fig. 4A, 4B sectional views through a locking element of the mounting adapter inserted into a slot in the first housing half.
[0063] Figure 1A shows a view of a first housing part 3A and a separately illustrated printed circuit board 100. The first housing part 3A shown has four side walls 5AA-5AD, which adjoin one another at the edges and form a housing shell of the first housing part 3A. Furthermore, the first housing part 3A shown has a shell-like design, and the side walls 5AA-5AD are arranged at a right angle to one another on a base surface 7.
[0064] At one end of the side walls 5AA - 5AD, which is opposite the ends from which the side walls 5AA - 5AD extend from the base 7, runs the joining edge 9, at which the housing parts can be joined together in a form-fitting and separable manner, as shown in Figures 2B - 2E. The joining edge 9 has an oblique, non-parallel profile in the region of the third and fourth side walls 5AC, 5AD in order to compensate for the height difference between the first side wall 5AA and the second side wall 5AB.
[0065] As shown in Figure 1A, the first side wall 5AA of the first housing part 3A is formed lower, at least in one region, than the second side wall 5AB of the first housing part 3A opposite the first side wall 5AA. This enables the circuit board 100 to be easily inserted into the first housing part 3A via the first side wall 5AA, as shown below in Figures 1B and 1C.
[0066] The printed circuit board 100 can thus be inserted into the first housing part 3A essentially horizontally to the base area 7 of the first housing part 3A over the joining edge 9 of the first side wall 5AA up to the second side wall 5AB.
[0067] It is also shown that the second housing wall 5AB has an opening 11, which is shown as a round through-opening in the material of the second housing wall 5AB and is completely surrounded by the material of the second housing wall 5AB. The connection element 103 arranged on the circuit board 100, shown as an electrical socket, can thus be introduced into the opening 11 when the circuit board 100 is inserted via the first side wall 5AA (as shown in Figures 1B and 1C) in order to be able to make electrical contact from outside the electronics housing. In embodiments not shown, a plurality of connection elements can be arranged on the circuit board and each inserted into a corresponding opening in the first side wall.
[0068] Furthermore, Figure 1A shows that the first housing part 3A has fastening means 13A, 13B for fastening the printed circuit board 100 in the first housing part 3A. The fastening means 13A, 13B are depicted in the embodiment shown as a plurality of screw bosses, with only two fastening means 13A, 13B being visible in Figure 1A. The screw bosses extend in corner regions of the first housing part 3A from the base area 7, parallel to the side walls 5AA-5AD, with regions of the printed circuit board 100 resting on the screw bosses 3A, 3B in the inserted state, as shown in Figure 2A. After the printed circuit board has been inserted, screws are inserted through openings provided for this purpose in the printed circuit board 100 in order to thus fix the printed circuit board 100.
[0069] Figure 1A also shows a screw connection 15 which is adapted to fix the connection element 103 after it has been inserted into the opening 11. As shown, the connection element 103 has an external thread onto which the screw connection 13 can be screwed in order to thus fix the connection element 103 and the circuit board 100 connected to it. It is also shown that a guide element 17 is arranged at least in regions between the first side wall 5AA and the second side wall 5AB, for displacing the circuit board 100 between the first side wall 5AA and the second side wall 5AB on a guide track of the guide element 17. Furthermore, a holding means 19 is shown in Figure 1A, which is arranged as a projection on the second side wall 5AB above the guide element 17. In the inserted state, which is shown in Figure 2A, the circuit board 100 is held between the guide element 17 and the holding means 19.
[0070] Figure 1A also shows that the first housing part 3A is double-walled, at least in some areas.
[0071] In addition, the first housing part 3A further comprises connecting elements 21A - 21D, which are designed as screw domes, for connecting the shown first housing part 3A to a second housing part, as shown in Figures 2A - 2E.
[0072] Figure 1B shows the first housing part 3A shown in Figure 1A and a printed circuit board 100. Figure 1B shows a state in which the printed circuit board 100 is inserted into the housing 3A. For this purpose, the printed circuit board 100 is pushed over the low first side wall 5AA of the first housing part 3A. In Figure 1C, the printed circuit board 100 has been inserted further in the direction of the first side wall 5AA, so that the connection element 103 is already located in the opening 11. Figure 1C shows that the printed circuit board 100 is not pushed completely horizontally to the base surface over the first side wall 5AA, but slightly tilted at an angle of typically 5° to 15° towards the base surface of the first housing part 3A. The printed circuit board 100 rests on the guide element 17 shown in Figures 1A and 1B and is moved further on the guide element 17 in the direction of the second side wall 5AB.
[0073] Figure 2A shows a view of the electronics housing 1 with the printed circuit board 100 arranged therein according to the embodiment of the invention previously shown in Figures 1A - 1C.
[0074] In the illustration shown in Figure 2A, the printed circuit board 100 rests on the fastening means 13A, 13B shown as screw bosses in Figures 1A and 1B. Screws are inserted through openings in the printed circuit board 100 to fix the printed circuit board 100 in the first housing part 3A between the side walls 5AA - 5AD.
[0075] As shown, the first housing part 3A and the second housing part 3B are designed to be substantially complementary to one another, so that they meet at the joining edge 9 during assembly. The two housing parts 3A, 3B shown are wedge-shaped and can be combined to form a cuboid-shaped electronics housing 1, as shown in the following figures.
[0076] In the embodiment shown, the first housing part 3A and the second housing part 3B each have four elongated holes 23AA-23BD in the corner regions of the housing parts 3A, 3B. Connecting elements 21A-21D, depicted as screw bosses, are arranged in the elongated holes 23AA-23AD of the first housing part 3A for connecting the first and second housing parts 3A, 3B. The elongated holes 23AA-23BD shown extend in a corresponding manner to one another, so that the elongated holes in the housing parts 3A, 3B form a common elongated hole when joined together.
[0077] Figures 2B and 2O show the electronics housing 1 shown in Figure 2A in its assembled state. The housing parts 3A, 3B are joined together along the joining edge 9 in a form-fitting and separable manner.
[0078] Figures 2D and 2E show further views of the electronics housing 1 shown in Figures 2A-2C. Figures 2D and 2E show views from the outside of the base surface 7 of the first housing part 3A, with which the electronics housing 1 can be mounted either directly on a substrate or on a mounting adapter. For this purpose, the mounting adapter can have locking elements that correspond to the elongated holes 21AA-21AD in order to secure the electronics housing 1 to the mounting adapter, as shown in the following Figures 3A, 3B.
[0079] Figure 3A shows a view of the first and second housing parts 3A, 3B and a mounting adapter 200 according to one embodiment of the invention. The mounting adapter 200 is attached to a rod, for example, and is designed to be connectable to the first housing part 3A. For this purpose, locking elements 221A-221D are arranged on the mounting adapter 200, which correspond to the ends of the elongated holes 21AA-21AD shown in Figure 2E, in order to establish a snap-in connection when the first housing part 3A is placed on the mounting adapter 200.
[0080] Figure 3B shows a view in which the first housing part 3A is placed on the mounting adapter 200. It is also shown that the connecting element 103 is connected to a corresponding connecting cable.
[0081] Figure 4A shows a sectional view through a locking element 221A of the mounting adapter 200 inserted into an elongated hole 21AA of the first housing half 3A. As shown, the locking element 221A forms a snap-in connection with a portion of the elongated hole 21AA. Figure 4B shows the view from Figure 4A with an additional screw inserted into the locking element 221A to prevent accidental release of the snap-in connection.
