Description
[0001] Earthing system terminal assembly, earthing system and method for producing a terminal connection
[0002] The invention relates to a grounding system terminal assembly for establishing a clamp connection between at least two grounding conductors. Furthermore, the invention relates to a grounding system with two grounding conductors and a grounding system terminal assembly. Furthermore, the invention relates to a method for establishing a clamp connection between at least two grounding conductors in a grounding system.
[0003] Earthing systems are part of an external lightning protection system designed to conduct lightning currents into the ground and distribute them there. This safely diverts the currents generated during a lightning strike to earth. The earthing system may include a foundation earthing electrode, which is typically installed as a closed ring in the foundations of exterior walls of buildings. The foundation earthing electrode is embedded in the concrete foundation and enclosed by a concrete cover, which protects it against corrosion.
[0004] Additionally, or alternatively, the earthing system can include a ring earth electrode, which is laid in a closed ring around the structure to be protected. In this case, the ring earth electrode is laid outside the structure and in contact with the earth.
[0005] Earthing systems, especially ring earthing systems, also include different types of earthing conductors, such as surface earthing rods, which are laid close to the surface, or deep earthing rods, which are driven vertically into the ground. To create the earthing system, it is therefore necessary to electrically connect the earthing conductors to one another, using clamp connections, among other methods.
[0006] The terminal connections are at least partially buried underground, so they are exposed to external influences. To prevent corrosion, the current standard requires that the grounding conductors and the terminal connection be made of a corrosion-resistant material that is also electrically conductive.
[0007] Furthermore, it is known from the state of the art that the clamped connection produced is subsequently protected with an insulating material, namely a so-called corrosion protection bandage, which, however, results in considerable additional effort.
[0008] The object of the invention is to provide a possibility with which an earthing system can be manufactured in a simple manner.
[0009] The object is achieved according to the invention by a grounding system terminal assembly for establishing a clamp connection between at least two grounding conductors. The terminal assembly has at least one clamping part made of an electrically conductive material. The clamping part has at least one interface for the grounding conductors, at which at least one seal is provided to prevent the ingress of dirt and / or moisture.
[0010] Furthermore, the object is achieved according to the invention by a method for establishing a clamp connection between at least two grounding conductors in a grounding system. The method comprises the following steps:
[0011] Providing an earthing system terminal assembly comprising at least one clamping part formed from an electrically conductive material, wherein the clamping part has at least one interface for the earthing conductors, at which at least one seal is provided which prevents dirt and / or moisture from entering, and
[0012] Connecting the grounding conductors to the at least one interface such that connection points of the grounding conductors to the at least one interface are sealed by means of the seal.
[0013] The basic idea of the invention is to provide an earthing system terminal assembly that already has the seal that prevents dirt and / or moisture from entering. In this respect, the seal is an integral part of the earthing system terminal assembly, so that it does not have to be subsequently applied after the clamp connection has been made. In other words, the seal is already provided in an initial state of the terminal assembly, so that it is not subsequently applied, as is the case with a corrosion protection bandage that is only wrapped around the clamping part after the clamp connection has already been made. In this respect, this means that the seal is already provided before the clamp connection has actually been made.
[0014] The seal is designed to prevent dirt and moisture from penetrating through the interface, effectively preventing any continuity measurements to be carried out on the earthing system from being affected.
[0015] In principle, the at least one seal can be designed such that the grounding conductors are passed through the seal to establish the clamping connection with the clamping part. For this purpose, it can be provided, among other things, that the seal is made of a more flexible material, particularly compared to the grounding conductors, so that the grounding conductors at least partially displace the seal or penetrate into the seal when the grounding conductors are inserted into the at least one interface of the clamping part.
[0016] It can also be provided that the seal is separated in a defined area, for example, with a predetermined separation point, when inserting the grounding conductor. This allows at least one of the grounding conductors to penetrate the clamping part. The seal is designed in such a way that it then adheres directly to the grounding conductor in the area of the interface to create the desired seal.
[0017] One aspect provides for the electrically conductive material to be corrosion-resistant and / or a stainless steel, in particular a V4A stainless steel. In this respect, the clamping part can be made of a non-rusting stainless steel (NIRO stainless steel or NIRO V4A stainless steel).
[0018] A further aspect provides that the connection terminal assembly comprises at least one screw element that interacts with the clamping part. In particular, the at least one screw element interacts with an opening in the clamping part into which the screw element is screwed. The screw element can exert a force on at least one of the two grounding conductors, whereby the grounding conductor is clamped to the clamping part, thus establishing the clamping connection. It can be provided that the two grounding conductors are arranged one above the other, i.e. in a stack, so that the screw element acts on a first grounding conductor, which in turn acts on the second grounding conductor, which is supported on the clamping part. This allows the clamping connection to be established accordingly.
[0019] To establish the clamping connection, it can be provided that the screw element is first unscrewed from the opening, whereby the grounding conductors can be introduced into a clamping area of the clamping part via the at least one interface of the clamping part. Once the grounding conductors are arranged in the intended position with respect to the clamping part, i.e., the clamping area, the at least one screw element can be screwed into the opening in the clamping part until the screw element comes into contact with at least one of the two grounding conductors, in order to press it towards the other grounding conductor, whereby both clamping conductors are then clamped to establish the clamping connection.
[0020] Alternatively, the terminal assembly can comprise two clamping parts, each with an opening, with the screw element cooperating with the openings of the clamping parts. When screwing in the at least one screw element, the two clamping parts can then be arranged to move toward each other, thereby reducing the size of a receiving space provided between them, in which the grounding conductors are arranged, thus establishing the clamping connection. The receiving space therefore corresponds to the clamping area.
[0021] A further aspect provides that the at least one seal is attached to the clamping part in the initial state of the terminal assembly. The seal can therefore be provided directly on the component of the terminal assembly that also has the interface for the grounding conductors. This results in a particularly simple design of the earthing system terminal assembly. Furthermore, this embodiment ensures that the interface is sealed in a simple manner, preventing dirt and / or moisture from penetrating the clamping connection.
[0022] In an alternative embodiment, it can be provided that the connection terminal assembly has at least one housing that at least partially accommodates the clamping part in such a way that the at least one interface is surrounded by the housing, wherein the at least one seal is arranged in the housing. The housing can in particular be formed separately from the clamping part. In other words, the clamping part is (at least partially) inserted into the housing. The housing can have at least one insertion opening into which the grounding conductors are inserted in order to be able to establish the clamping connection. It can also be provided that the housing surrounds the entire clamping part, so that the entire clamping part is surrounded by the housing, whereby the entire clamping part is sealed by means of the seal. The screw element can be located on the housing and is accessible from the outside, so that after inserting the grounding conductor, the clamp connection is realized by screwing in the screw element. However, subsequent sealing, i.e., after establishing the clamp connection, is not necessary, since the seal is already integrated into the housing.
[0023] In particular, the housing has at least two sub-housings that can be connected to one another, wherein the at least two sub-housings each have a receiving area in which sealing material is provided, which forms the seal to protect against the ingress of dirt and / or moisture. For example, the at least two sub-housings are each connected to the clamping part. This results in simple assembly of the earthing system connection terminal assembly, since the two sub-housings can, for example, latch together so that the sub-housings are placed on top of one another to at least partially accommodate the clamping part. The two receiving areas of the sub-housings together form the receiving space that encompasses the clamping area. The two sub-housings can be pivotally connected to the clamping part, allowing them to be pivoted such that the interface between the clamping part and the grounding conductors is surrounded by the sealing material, thus ensuring the sealing of the interface. In principle, the two sub-housings can each have an insertion opening, whereby the insertion openings together form at least one insertion opening for the grounding conductors when the two sub-housings are connected.
[0024] The at least one seal can be a rubber lip, an ethylene propylene diene (monomer) rubber (EPDM) seal, a gel seal, a petrolatum seal, or a foam seal. If the seal is formed directly on the clamping part, it is preferably a rubber lip, an EPDM seal, a petrolatum seal, or a gel seal. If the grounding system terminal assembly has the housing in which the seal is arranged, it is preferably a gel seal, a petrolatum seal, or a foam seal that is securely received in the housing.
[0025] In any case, the different materials ensure that the interface is adequately sealed, while the materials are easy to process to ensure the mechanical requirements are met.
[0026] Furthermore, it can be provided that the at least one seal is designed and provided at the at least one interface in such a way that its outer surface is non-adhesive. This increases the convenience of processing the earthing system terminal assembly, particularly when forming the clamp connection or sealing, since no material with an adhesive outer surface is required, as was previously the case with the corrosion protection bandage.
[0027] In principle, an earthing system terminal assembly of the type mentioned above can be provided in the method for producing the terminal connection.
[0028] Furthermore, the invention provides an earthing system comprising two earthing conductors and an earthing system terminal assembly of the aforementioned type, wherein a clamp connection is established between the two earthing conductors via the terminal assembly. The two earthing conductors are thus inserted into the clamping part via at least one interface, with the clamp connection subsequently being established. The corresponding interface or the connection points of the earthing conductors with the clamping part in the area of the interface are already sealed by the seal when the earthing conductors were inserted. Subsequent sealing by means of a corrosion protection bandage or the like is therefore no longer necessary.
[0029] Further advantages and features of the invention will become apparent from the following description and the drawings, to which reference is made. In the drawings:

[0035] Figure 6 shows an earthing system according to the invention according to a third embodiment,
[0036] Figure 7 shows an earthing system according to the invention according to a fourth embodiment,
[0037] Figure 8 is a schematic sectional view of an earthing system according to the invention with an earthing system terminal assembly according to the invention according to an embodiment variant, and
[0038] Figure 9 shows a schematic sectional view of an inventive grounding system with an inventive grounding system terminal assembly according to a further embodiment. Figure 1 shows an earthing system 10 for discharging currents, such as lightning currents. In this respect, the earthing system 10 can, among other things, be part of an external lightning protection system for a building structure.
[0039] In the embodiment shown, the earthing system 10 comprises a first earthing conductor 12 and a second earthing conductor 14, both of which are designed, for example, as flat conductors.
[0040] In addition, the earthing system 10 comprises an earthing system terminal assembly 16, which in the embodiment shown has two clamping parts 18, 20, which are each coupled to one another by means of a plurality of screw elements 22, so that a receiving space 24 is formed between the two clamping parts 18, 20, in which the two earthing conductors 12, 14 cross.
[0041] The clamping parts 18, 20 accordingly have interfaces 26 at which the grounding conductors 12, 14 first contact the at least one clamping part 18, 20 or penetrate into the receiving space 24, in which a clamping area is also provided. At the respective interface, there are therefore connection points between the respective grounding conductor 12, 14 and one of the clamping parts 18, 20. In other words, the interface 26 can also be referred to as the insertion area of the grounding system connection terminal assembly 16.
[0042] Basically, the earthing system connection terminal assembly 16 is designed to establish a clamp connection between the two earthing conductors 12, 14, namely in their intersection area in the receiving space 24.
[0043] To establish the clamping connection, the screw elements 22 are tightened or screwed into the clamping parts 18, 20, with the screw elements 22 each engaging a lock nut 28 at their ends. The screw elements 22 extend through corresponding openings 30, 32 in the respective clamping parts 18, 20, so that the clamping parts 18, 20 are moved toward each other when the screw elements 22 are tightened.
[0044] The receiving space 24 can therefore be reduced in size if the screw elements 22 are tightened or screwed in, so that the earthing conductors 12, 14 are clamped via the two clamping parts 18, 20, thus establishing the clamping connection.
[0045] Basically, the clamping parts 18, 20 are made of an electrically conductive material, in particular a corrosion-resistant electrically conductive material such as a stainless steel, for example a non-rusting (NIRO) V4A stainless steel.
[0046] The respective earthing conductors 12, 14 can also be made of the corresponding material.
[0047] In this respect, an electrical connection is created between the two earthing conductors 12, 14 via the terminal connection which has been established by means of the earthing system terminal assembly 16.
[0048] Figures 2 to 4 show the grounding system terminal assembly 16 that can be used for this purpose, according to various embodiments. The grounding system terminal assemblies 16 shown in Figures 2 to 4 can therefore be used in the grounding system 10 according to Figure 1.
[0049] In particular, it can be seen from Figures 2 to 4 that the grounding system terminal assembly 16 has a seal 34 which is provided at at least one of the interfaces 26 for the grounding conductors 12, 14, in particular at all interfaces 26.
[0050] The seal 34 basically provides corrosion protection so that the clamped connection is protected against the ingress of dirt and moisture.
[0051] In the embodiment shown in Figure 2, the seal 34 is formed, for example, by an ethylene propylene diene (monomer) rubber seal (EPDM seal), a petrolatum seal, or a rubber lip, which, for example, has a perforation 36 through which at least one of the corresponding grounding conductors 12, 14 can be introduced. The seal 34 is designed, particularly with regard to the material, such that the seal 34 encloses the introduced grounding conductor 12, 14 in order to seal it in the region of the interface 26. The seal 34 is, in particular, designed to be (reversibly) compressible, thereby ensuring that the seal 34 can be compressed when the clamp connection is established in order to establish the electrical connection between the grounding conductors 12, 14.
[0052] As an alternative to the EPDM seal, the petrolatum seal or the rubber lip, the seal 34 in the embodiment shown in Figure 2 can also be made of another material which offers a corresponding sealing function for corrosion protection, for example another plastic material.
[0053] In the embodiment shown in Figure 2, the seal 34 is attached or mounted to one of the clamping parts 18, 20 in the initial state of the terminal assembly. This means that the seal 34 is already arranged on the clamping part 18, 20 before the clamping connection is established, in particular even before the grounding conductors 12, 14 have been inserted.
[0054] The seal 34 can in particular be arranged between the two clamping parts 18, 20 in such a way that it has only one outer side which is accessible from the outside and which is provided in the region of the interface 26.
[0055] The seal 34 can be designed and provided at the interface 26 in such a way that the externally accessible outer side of the seal 34 is non-adhesive, i.e., has no adhesive effect. This greatly facilitates the processing of the seal 34 and the creation of the sealed clamp connection.
[0056] Figure 3 shows an alternative embodiment of the terminal assembly 16, with only the differences compared to the terminal assembly 16 shown in Figure 2 being discussed below.
[0057] The difference from the terminal assembly 16 shown in Figure 2 lies in the design of the seal 34, which in the embodiment shown in Figure 3 is designed as a gel seal, a petrolatum seal, or a foam seal that is present between the two clamping parts 18, 20. The seal 34 can already be provided or attached to at least one of the two clamping parts 18, 20 in the initial state of the terminal assembly 16. To establish the clamped connection, the corresponding grounding conductor 12, 14 is pushed into the seal 34, which, due to its corresponding material, is designed such that the grounding conductor 12, 14 can be inserted. The seal 34 wraps around the grounding conductor 12, 14 in the area of the interface 26, whereby the corresponding connection of the grounding conductor 12, 14 to the corresponding clamping part 18, 20 is protected from corrosion.
[0058] Figure 4 shows a further embodiment of the terminal assembly 16, wherein only the difference from the two previously mentioned embodiments of the terminal assembly 16 will be discussed below.
[0059] The seal 34 in the embodiment of the terminal assembly 16 shown in Figure 4 consists in that the seal 34 is formed by rubber lips 38, which are arranged on the two clamping parts 18, 20, respectively. The two rubber lips 38 abut one another in the area of the interface 26, wherein at least one of the grounding conductors 12, 14 can be inserted between the two rubber lips 38, which are designed to be flexible enough to conform to the inserted grounding conductor 12, 14 and seal it when inserted. This also enables appropriate corrosion protection.
[0060] In principle, each of the interfaces 26 can be configured as shown and described. It is also possible for the multiple interfaces 26 of the terminal assembly 16 to be configured according to different embodiments.
[0061] Figures 5 to 7 show further embodiments of grounding systems 10, which differ from the embodiment shown in Figure 1 in the corresponding design of the terminal assembly 16 and / or the grounding conductors 12, 14 used. The respective seals 34 are not shown in Figures 5 to 7 for the sake of clarity. Figure 5, for example, shows a design in which the two grounding conductors 12, 14, which are designed as round conductors, run parallel to one another, so that there is no crossing area of the grounding conductors 12, 14 in the region of the clamping parts 18, 20.
[0062] The terminal assembly 16, in turn, has two clamping parts 18, 20, which are shaped such that they jointly form two receiving spaces 24 for the respective grounding conductors 12, 14. The two clamping parts 18, 20 can be moved relative to one another via the one screw element 22 in order to establish the clamping connection between the two grounding conductors 12, 14 via the clamping parts 18, 20 by clamping the grounding conductors 12, 14 in the respective receiving spaces 24.
[0063] Figure 6 shows a variant in which two earthing conductors 12, 14 designed as round conductors cross in a common receiving space 24, wherein the clamping takes place in a manner analogous to the variant shown in Figure 5.
[0064] In Figure 7, however, a terminal assembly 16 is shown in which two grounding conductors 12, 14, which in the illustrated embodiment are designed as round conductors with different diameters, for example, are clamped with only a single clamping part 18 and a screw element 22 in order to establish the clamping connection between the two grounding conductors 12, 14. One grounding conductor 12, in particular the one with the larger diameter, is, for example, a deep earth rod.
[0065] For this purpose, the clamping part 18 has corresponding receiving openings 40, via which the clamping connection of the two grounding conductors 12, 14 is established. The screw element 22 acts on at least one of the grounding conductors 12, 14, whereby this grounding conductor 12, 14 is pressed onto the other grounding conductor 12, 14, which is supported on the clamping part 18, particularly in the region of the receiving openings 40. Since both grounding conductors 12, 14, i.e. the deep earth rod 12 and the grounding conductor 14, are each designed as round conductors, one round conductor is pressed onto the other round conductor.
[0066] The receiving openings 40 of the clamping part 18 correspond to the
[0067] Interfaces 26. The seal 34 not shown in Figures 5 to 7 can be designed in an analogous manner to the previously described embodiments according to Figures 2 to 4, i.e. as a rubber lip, an ethylene propylene diene (monomer) rubber seal (EPDM seal), a gel seal, a petrolatum seal or a foam seal.
[0068] Figure 8 shows a variant embodiment of the earthing system 10, which essentially comprises the earthing system terminal assembly 16 according to the embodiment shown in Figure 7.
[0069] However, the embodiment shown in Figure 8 differs in that the connection terminal assembly 16 in the exemplary embodiment shown is formed by the clamping connection of two grounding conductors 12, 14 designed as flat conductors.
[0070] In addition, the earthing system terminal assembly 16 comprises a housing 42 which at least partially accommodates the one clamping part 18, in particular completely.
[0071] The seal 34 is provided in the housing 42, particularly as a gel, petrolatum, or foam seal. This ensures that the interface 26 of the clamping part 18 for the grounding conductors 12, 14 is sealed accordingly.
[0072] The earthing conductors 12, 14 are inserted through insertion openings 44 into the housing 42, whereby the earthing conductors 12, 14 can come into contact with the one clamping part 18, in particular at the interface 26.
[0073] The screw element 22, which is provided to establish the clamp connection, also enters the housing 42 through a corresponding opening in order to contact at least one of the grounding conductors 12, 14 so that the clamp connection can be established.
[0074] In the embodiment shown in Figure 9, the housing 42 is formed by at least two partial housings 46, 48, each having a receiving area 50, 52 in which sealing material is provided, which forms the seal 34 when the two partial housings 46, 48 are connected to one another. In the embodiment shown in Figure 9, the two housing parts 46, 48 are arranged so as to be pivotable relative to one another, for which purpose a corresponding pivot point 54 is provided. In particular, the two partial housings 46, 48 can each be connected to the clamping part 18, for example, pivotably connected to at least one of the two partial housings 46, 48.
[0075] Furthermore, it can be provided that the two partial housings 46, 48 can be connected to one another to form the closed housing 42, so that the two partial housings 46, 48 cannot be accidentally detached from one another in a connected state. This is made possible, for example, by a locking mechanism provided on at least one edge of the partial housings 46, 48. In other words, the two housing parts 46, 48 can be clipped or locked together to jointly form the (closed) housing 42, in which the clamping part 18 is at least partially, in particular completely, received.
[0076] When the two partial housings 46, 48 are connected, it is then also ensured that the sealing material provided in the two receiving areas 50, 52 together forms the seal 34 at at least one interface 26 in order to ensure corrosion protection.
[0077] In the embodiments according to Figures 8 and 9, the clamping connection can be established by screwing in the screw element 22, whereby at least one of the two grounding conductors 12, 14 is contacted via the screw element 22 and clamps this at least indirectly to the clamping part 18. In the embodiment shown in Figure 9, the screw element 22 exerts a force on the grounding conductor 12, which lies on the grounding conductor 14, so that the first grounding conductor 12 presses the second grounding conductor 14 onto the clamping part 18, whereby the clamping connection is accordingly established.
[0078] In principle, the earthing conductors 12, 14 can be surface earthing electrodes and / or deep earthing electrodes.
[0079] In all embodiments, variants, and configurations, it is ensured that an integral seal 34 is provided, eliminating the need to subsequently seal the already established clamp connection. The handling and functionality of the terminal assembly 16 are thus significantly improved compared to the options known from the prior art.
