AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

The installation process of heavy lift crane systems is cumbersome due to their large size, requiring on-site assembly of components like the main boom and back mast, which are often modular and extensive, complicating the setup at locations such as refineries or wind turbine assembly sites.

Method used

A method involving the installation of a crane system with a circular slew track assembly, where the main boom and back mast are initially assembled in a horizontal orientation, followed by connecting a connector strut underneath the back mast, pivoting it into an inclined position, and suspending the counterweight, allowing for efficient assembly and setup.

Benefits of technology

This method facilitates a more efficient and dependable installation process by reducing the need for extensive on-site assembly, enabling quicker setup and readiness for operation.

Abstract

Method for installing a heavy lift crane system at a hoisting site. The crane system comprises a circular slew track assembly (1) extending over at least a slew arc about a slew center (2) and a crane (20) with a crane carriage configured to travel over the track arrangement, a main boom (40), a back mast (50), an adjustable length arrangement (60) between the back mast (50) and the main boom (40). The method comprises arranging a connector strut (80) underneath the horizontal back mast (50), pivotally connecting an upper end of the connector strut (80), pivoting the back mast (50) into an inclined raised position, arranging a counterweight (70) at the slew center (2), bringing the connector strut (80) into a substantially vertical orientation above the counterweight (70), connecting a lower end of the connector strut (80) to the counterweight (70), and raising the main boom (40).
