[0005] Dosage boxes are frequently used in the health care industry for dosing patient’s medicine and supplements. When patients leave a hospital, a clinic, or any other health care facility, they are often prescribed medicine to be taken one to four times a day in the first few days upon leaving the health care facility. The patients are thus provided with a dosage box containing the necessary medicine dosages for their own administration when discharged from the health care facility.
[0006] Present day dosage boxes are single-use dosages boxes made of plastic and comprise a tray with several compartments and a slidable lid covering all compartments. For many patients with functional impairment, e.g. patients with arthritis, these dosage boxes are difficult to handle, as they require great hand and finger strength as well as mobility, since the lids are tight and do not slide smoothly.
[0007] The slidable lid is transparent, which makes it difficult for especially elderly patients to see how far the lid has been slided off, which can result in an adjacent compartment to the one of interest being fully or partially opened as well, or in worst case several compartments being opened. This is problematic as the patients cannot see that more than one compartment is open, thereby causing the tablets in the open compartments to mix, when the patients try to empty the correct compartment for tablets, resulting in a wrong intake by the patient.
[0008] Additionally, the slidable lids are bendable, thus when handled by the patients or lying in a handbag or the like, the lid can bend, which creates an open space between the compartments. This is problematic since tablets can travel between compartments, resulting in patients taking a wrong dosage. When stored in handbags or the like, the slidable lids are further of risk of sliding off, which result in the tablet falling out of the dosage box and getting mixed in the bag, which again can result in the patients taking a wrong dosage.
[0009] The problems with present day dosage boxes thus induce a high risk of patients having wrong intake and / or dosage of medicine, which can be expensive for the health care facilities, since wrongfully ingested medicine may require further treatments.
[0010] Since the present day dosage boxes are made of hard plastic materials, they require a lot of space during transportation to and storage at the health care facility. Furthermore, the dosage boxes are considered single-use dosage boxes as they are not returned to the health care facility for reuse, thereby creating a lot of plastic waste.
[0011] Furthermore, the Nordic countries, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland and Denmark, have developed the Nordic criteria for more sustainable packaging for products in the healthcare sector, with the aim to reduce the climate and environmental impacts of packaging used in connection with products in the healthcare sector. Since the end of 2021, the health care sector has used the criteria for procurement of products. The three criteria are:

[0015] There is a need in the art for a dosage box for dosing tablets and a kit for filling such a dosage box, that optimizes the preparation time, reduces the risk of wrong intake by the patient, and that is furthermore easy to open and handle for functionally impaired patients. There is furthermore a need for a dosage box that optimizes the space needed during transportation and storage and that fulfills the Nordic criteria for packaging in the health care sector and thus reduces the amount of waste, especially the amount of plastic waste.
[0016] Object of the Invention The object of the invention is to provide a paperboard dosage box for dosing tablets, a kit for filling a paperboard dosage box with tablets and a method for folding a paperboard dosage that overcome the disadvantages of the prior art dosage boxes.
[0017] Description of the Invention
[0018] An object of the invention is achieved by a planar unfolded configuration of a paperboard dosage box for dosing tablets when in an assembled configuration. The planar unfolded configuration comprises a planar blank comprising
[0019] - a first plank, a second plank, and a main plank extending between the first and second planks, the first plank comprises one or more compartment sections and one or more spacers arranged alternatingly, where a first compartment section is connected to the main plank;
[0020] - a first wing and a second wing extending in opposite directions from the main plank or the second plank substantially perpendicular to the first plank, the first and second wings comprise one or more openable single-use gates and one or more distance pieces arranged alternatingly, where the openable single-use gates in the first wing are arranged opposite the distance pieces in the second wing; and
