Description

[0001] Provision device for the storage and transport of catheters

[0002] The present invention relates to a provision device for the storage and transport of catheters, in particular balloon catheters for percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty.

[0003] Balloon catheters for percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty, also known as PTCA catheters, are used to treat severe coronary stenosis. To treat these conditions, the balloon catheter is inserted into a coronary vessel via a guidewire and inflated.

[0004] PTCA catheters currently available on the market are transported and stored in so-called "dispensers." These are long plastic tubes that are longer than the catheter itself. The plastic tube is twisted into a circle with the catheter inside and secured with clamps to prevent it from unwinding. Inserted catheters can be safely transported and stored in this type of packaging.

[0005] Problems with the dispensers described include, on the one hand, their handling, particularly the cumbersome removal of the catheter, and, on the other hand, their environmental impact. The plastic tube used as packaging alone accounts for almost the largest share of the entire product's plastic requirements, namely approximately 95%.

[0006] A holding device, in particular for medical equipment, is known from JP 2016-064089 A. JP 2012-176101 A relates to packaging for medical devices, in particular catheters. A storage device for objects with a long extension is described in WO 2019 / 171672 A1. DE 43 33 073 A1 discloses packaging for tubular goods. US 4,332,322 discloses a folding packaging for holding a spool of plastic tube with clamps and corresponding fittings. US 5,131,537 relates to packaging for medical catheters. US 2005 / 0194276 A1 describes a packaging for elongated medical devices and methods for manufacturing and using the same.

[0007] It is therefore an object of the present invention to improve a supply device of the type described above.

[0008] This object is achieved according to the invention in a provision device of the type described above in that the provision device comprises a carrier and a holding device arranged or formed on the carrier for holding an annular rolled-up catheter in a storage position, that the holding device comprises at least three holding elements engaging with the catheter in the storage position and that the at least three holding elements are arranged or formed spatially separated from one another on the carrier, that the at least three holding elements are positioned along a holding circle which defines a holding circle center, that at least one, in particular all, of the at least three holding elements is designed in the form of a holding tab, that a free holding tab end of the holding tab is oriented towards a support center of the support and that the holding device comprises at least two retaining elements for preventing movement of the catheter in the storage position towards the holding circle center.,

[0009] A deployment device further developed as proposed makes it possible, in particular, to easily hold a rolled-up catheter on the carrier. The at least three holding elements serve this purpose. In particular, only three holding elements can be provided. They serve to support the rolled-up catheter, for example, at three points or on three short contact sections. Such an arrangement makes it possible, in particular, to easily handle the catheter. In particular, both ends of the catheter can be kept freely accessible on the deployment device or on its carrier. This significantly improves handling of the deployment device compared to the known packaging device described above. In particular, depending on the specific arrangement of the holding elements, it is possible to remove the catheter as a whole, rolled up, from the deployment device. This is not possible with a catheter stored in a plastic tube. With this type of tube storage, the catheter must first be completely pulled out of the tube in order to make both ends freely accessible at the same time. The provision device developed as proposed also has a significantly better environmental footprint. In particular, a carrier can be made very flat, so that on the one hand material for its production is saved compared to a plastic tube and on the other hand the provision device with the catheter held on it, which can also nestle as flat as possible against the carrier, can be made even flatter than the known tube packaging described. In this way, the space required for the product is significantly reduced. This allows manufacturing, transport and storage costs to be significantly reduced.Positioning the at least three holding elements along a holding circle, which defines a holding circle center, makes it easy to hold a catheter rolled up in a circular ring on the carrier. In particular, the holding circle center can be positioned in the region of a carrier center of the carrier by appropriately arranging the at least three holding elements. It is advantageous if at least one, in particular all, of the at least three holding elements is designed in the form of a holding tab and that a free holding tab end of the holding tab is oriented towards a carrier center of the carrier. The carrier center can in particular be the holding circle center. Retaining tabs can be easily formed on the carrier, in particular by gluing them on or alternatively by being formed integrally from the carrier itself. This will be explained in more detail below.Furthermore, it is provided that the holding device comprises at least two retaining elements to prevent movement of the catheter in the storage position towards the center of the holding circle. The retaining elements can further improve the storage of the catheter on the deployment device, particularly in addition to the holding elements. The proposed deployment device is particularly advantageous for PTCA catheters. This can comprise a wire which forms a type of reset device in the form of a spring-elastic element to stabilize the catheter in an elongated shape. This is particularly advantageous when inserting the catheter into a patient's blood vessels. However, the wire can also cause it to undesirably snap open from a coiled position into its elongated basic position if the catheter is not secured appropriately. The proposed deployment device, in particular, provides a remedy against this problem, as it can position the catheter securely and precisely and hold it in the rolled-up storage position on the support with at least three holding elements engaging with the catheter in the storage position, at least one of which prevents movement of the catheter in the storage position toward the center of the holding circle and at least one of which prevents movement away from the center of the holding circle. Such a holder is not required for so-called OTW catheters, which are flexible. OTW catheters do not include a stabilizing wire, so such a catheter cannot simply snap into an elongated basic position, as is the case with PTCA catheters.

[0010] It is advantageous if the deployment device is designed to disengage the coiled catheter from the at least three retaining elements without stretching the catheter. As already explained, this makes it possible to remove the catheter entirely, i.e., in a coiled position, from the deployment device. Both ends of the catheter are then freely accessible.

[0011] Advantageously, two of the at least three holding elements are positioned point-symmetrically with respect to the center of the holding circle. If a third holding element is positioned between the two holding elements along the holding circle, a free area extending almost 180° is created between the holding elements opposite each other with respect to the center of the holding circle. This makes it possible, in particular, to hold the catheter securely to the deployment device while also allowing it to be removed from the deployment device in a rolled-up state. This requires only slight deformation of the rolled-up catheter.

[0012] It is advantageous if the at least three holding elements define a holding area corresponding to a holding circle circumference angle of at least 180°. This allows a coiled catheter to be securely held on the delivery device.

[0013] It is advantageous if the holding circle circumference angle is in a range between 180° and 240°. In particular, it can be in a range from approximately 185° to approximately 200°. For reliable bearing support, it is advantageous if the holding circle circumference angle is greater than 180°.

[0014] According to a further preferred embodiment, the carrier can have an outer carrier edge that encloses a storage area, and the catheter can be arranged within the storage area in the storage position. This configuration, in particular, makes it possible to hold the catheter protected on the deployment device. Even if a user bumps the deployment device with the catheter mounted thereon against an object with the carrier edge, the catheter is still well protected from damage.

[0015] It is advantageous if the retaining tab is formed by a retaining cut line formed on the carrier and having two free ends, if the retaining tab defines a retaining tab base line that connects the two free ends of the retaining cut line, and if a free retaining tab length of the retaining tab is defined by a distance between the free retaining tab end and the retaining tab base line. To form the retaining tabs, all that is required is a cut on the carrier such that the retaining cut line has two free ends that are spaced apart from one another. The retaining tab can then be pivoted out of a carrier surface defined by the carrier, in particular a carrier plane, along the retaining tab base line. It is also conceivable to bend or fold the retaining tab along the retaining tab base line. The catheter can be securely held on the carrier with such retaining tabs. For example, bent-out retaining tabs form wedge-shaped recesses in which the catheter can optionally even be held clamped.

[0016] For ease of handling, it is advantageous if the holding cut lines are convexly curved toward the carrier center. This allows the holding tabs to be designed with rounded ends, which minimizes the risk of damage to the catheter.

[0017] Preferably, the retaining cut line is curved at least in sections, in particular in the form of a circular arc. Such retaining cut lines can be easily formed by cutting and punching.

[0018] To form triangular or square retaining tabs, it is advantageous if the retaining cut line comprises at least two, especially three, retaining line sections. These can, for example, be inclined relative to each other.

[0019] In particular, it is advantageous if the at least two retaining line sections are designed to be at least partially straight or essentially straight. This allows for the simple implementation of triangular or square retaining tabs.

[0020] Preferably, the base lines of the retaining tabs of at least two retaining tabs run parallel or substantially parallel to each other. Such an arrangement arises, for example, when the two retaining tabs are positioned point-symmetrically with respect to the center of the retaining circle. They thus engage opposite sides of the coiled catheter to hold it to the delivery device.

[0021] It is advantageous if the base lines of the retaining tabs of at least two retaining tabs extend transversely, in particular perpendicularly, to each other. Arranging two retaining tabs in this manner can, in particular, ensure that a coiled catheter cannot be moved toward these two retaining tabs to remove it from the delivery device. In particular, this ensures reliable securing of the catheter to the delivery device.

[0022] To minimize the size of the carrier, it is advantageous if the distance between the base line of at least one retaining tab and the carrier edge is smaller than the free length of the retaining tab. This minimizes the amount of material used to form the delivery device.

[0023] It is advantageous if at least one retaining tab is positioned close to the carrier edge and if its retaining tab base line runs parallel or substantially parallel to the carrier edge. This configuration also makes it possible, in particular, to minimize the size of the carrier.

[0024] It is advantageous if at least one, in particular all, of the at least two retaining elements are designed in the form of a retaining tab, and if a free end of the retaining tab is oriented radially away from the carrier center. In this way, a wedge-shaped receptacle, pointing radially away from the carrier center, can be formed by the retaining tab to accommodate a portion of the rolled-up catheter. The retaining tab, in particular, prevents movement of the rolled-up carrier toward the carrier center or the center of the holding circle. It is advantageous if the retaining tab is formed by a retaining cut line formed on the carrier and having two free ends, if the retaining tab defines a retaining tab base line that connects the two free ends of the retaining cut line, and if a free retaining tab length of the retaining tab is defined by a distance of the free retaining tab end from the retaining tab base line. As explained, retaining tabs can thus be formed, in particular, integrally with the carrier. This merely requires the formation of the retaining cut line, i.e., a corresponding cut on the carrier. The retaining tab can then be brought into a desired position relative to the carrier by deformation, in particular to form a wedge-shaped receptacle for the coiled catheter.

[0025] Advantageously, the retaining cut lines are concavely curved, at least in sections, toward the beam center, particularly in the form of a circular arc. This allows for the simple creation of wedge-shaped receptacles open in the radial direction through the retaining tabs.

[0026] It is advantageous if at least one, in particular all, of the at least two retaining elements are positioned along the retaining circle between the two retaining elements that are at the greatest angular distance from each other. In this way, the retaining elements do not significantly hinder removal of the rolled-up catheter from the delivery device. Preferably, the retaining elements are positioned close to the two aforementioned retaining elements, so that the rolled-up catheter is optimally secured in the region where a retaining tab is arranged adjacent to a retaining tab, both toward and away from the center of the retaining circle.

[0027] According to a further preferred embodiment, the delivery device can comprise an adapter holding device for a connection adapter arranged or formed at a first end of the catheter. This configuration makes it possible, in particular, to leave the catheter attached to the delivery device in preparation for an intervention. It is not absolutely necessary to remove it. The catheter can be easily flushed by connecting the connection adapter, which is still attached to the delivery device, namely to the adapter holding device. In this case, the catheter can remain rolled up on the delivery device, in particular.

[0028] A connection adapter can be securely held on the supply device if the adapter holding device comprises at least two adapter holding elements.

[0029] It is advantageous if two cooperating adapter retaining elements are designed in the form of adapter retaining tabs, and if the free adapter tab ends of the two adapter retaining elements are aligned to face each other. This makes it possible, in particular, to hold the connection adapter with its longitudinal axis aligned with the adapter retaining tabs in a direction transverse to the facing adapter tab ends.

[0030] Advantageously, the adapter tab ends facing each other are spaced apart to form an adapter retaining web on the carrier. This allows the connecting adapter to be securely held on the supply device, particularly by the adapter retaining web.

[0031] It is advantageous if the adapter holding device defines a longitudinal adapter holding axis and if the adapter holding web extends parallel or substantially parallel to the adapter's longitudinal axis. Thus, the connecting adapter can be held supported on the provision device, in particular by the adapter holding web. The provision device can be easily configured if the adapter holding device is designed symmetrically with respect to the adapter holding longitudinal axis.

[0032] Advantageously, the base line of a retaining tab is aligned parallel or substantially parallel to the adapter holding longitudinal axis. This allows a free end of the catheter, namely the first end with the connecting adapter, to be guided from the retaining tab to the adapter holding device, particularly without kinking, when wound onto the delivery device.

[0033] It is advantageous if an adapter recess is formed on the carrier, adjacent to the adapter holding device, in an extension of the adapter holding longitudinal axis, starting from the carrier edge. Such an adapter recess enables, in particular, the positioning of the connection adapter such that a connection element thereof, which can be designed, for example, in the form of a Luer-Lock connector, can protrude from the delivery device. This enables, in particular, the connection of the catheter, for example, to a flushing device for flushing the catheter, without having to remove the catheter, in particular the connection adapter, from the delivery device.

[0034] According to a further preferred embodiment, the delivery device may comprise a balloon holding device for an inflatable balloon arranged or formed in the region of a second end of the catheter. Such a balloon holding device enables, in particular, the secure positioning and storage of the catheter in the region of the inflatable balloon.

[0035] It is advantageous if the balloon holding device defines a balloon holding longitudinal axis and if the balloon holding device is designed asymmetrically with respect to the balloon holding longitudinal axis. In this way, the balloon or a second end region of the catheter can be reliably held on the delivery device. Preferably, the balloon holding device comprises at least two balloon holding elements. For example, it can comprise two balloon holding elements, which can be designed as tabs.

[0036] It is advantageous if two interacting balloon holding elements are designed in the form of balloon holding tabs, and if the free ends of the balloon holding tabs point in the same direction in the undeformed initial position of the deployment device. This design makes it possible, for example, to reshape or fold one of the two balloon holding tabs so that it supports the other balloon holding tab and can hold it in a position spread apart from the carrier. This allows the catheter to be positioned on the deployment device with optimal protection in the area of the balloon.

[0037] It is advantageous if each of the balloon holding tabs is formed by a balloon holding cut line formed on the carrier and having two free ends, if the balloon holding tab defines a balloon holding tab base line that connects the two free ends of the balloon holding cut line, and if a free balloon holding tab length is defined by the distance between the free balloon holding tab end and the balloon holding tab base line. As already explained with the holding tabs, balloon holding tabs for holding the catheter in the area of the inflatable balloon can be easily formed in this way.

[0038] In order to keep the risk of damage to the catheter as low as possible, it is advantageous if the balloon holding cut lines are curved, in particular in the form of circular arc cutouts.

[0039] It is advantageous if the balloon holding tab base lines of the two interacting balloon holding tabs run parallel or essentially parallel to each other and to the balloon holding longitudinal axis. In this way, the catheter section with the balloon can be held in a straight line by the interacting balloon holding tabs. It is advantageous if the balloon holding intersection lines of the two interacting balloon holding tabs are of different lengths and / or have different curvature radii. This allows the balloon holding tabs to be easily designed in different sizes.

[0040] Advantageously, the balloon holding tab lengths of the two interacting balloon holding tabs are equal or substantially equal. This can be achieved, in particular, if the balloon holding cut lines are of different lengths or have different curvature radii. This makes it easy to form balloon holding tabs of different sizes with different surface areas.

[0041] It is advantageous if the base line of a retaining tab is aligned parallel or substantially parallel to the balloon holding longitudinal axis. This configuration, in particular, allows the free second end of the catheter to be spread tangentially away from the holding circle without kinking and to be held with the balloon holding device.

[0042] According to a further preferred embodiment, a tip recess can be arranged or formed on the carrier, and a second end of the catheter is positioned in the region of the tip recess in the storage position. Such a tip recess allows a user to easily grasp a free tip, i.e., the second end of the catheter, in order to successively unwind the catheter from this end, starting from the deployment device.

[0043] It is advantageous if the tip recess is positioned adjacent to the balloon holding device, pointing in the direction of the balloon holding axis. This arrangement has the particular advantage that the second end itself does not need to be supported, as it is reliably held adjacent to the balloon in the region of the balloon on the delivery device. It is advantageous if the tip recess is designed in the form of an opening in the carrier. Such an opening can be formed easily, for example, by punching. In particular, it can be circular.

[0044] For optimal handling of the delivery device, it is advantageous if the tip recess is dimensioned such that it allows the second end of the catheter held on the delivery device to be grasped with two fingers. For example, the free end can be easily grasped and handled with the thumb and index finger of one hand.

[0045] According to a further preferred embodiment, a removal recess can be arranged or formed on the carrier, and in the storage position, at least two, in particular three, catheter sections of the catheter rolled up on the carrier are positioned in the region of the removal recess. This configuration allows a user to securely grasp the catheter, specifically two or more sections at once, so that the risk of the catheter completely unrolling when removed from the carrier, i.e., transitioning into an extended position, can be minimized. This makes it easier for a user to remove the catheter completely rolled up from the delivery device.

[0046] Conveniently, the removal recess is designed as an opening in the carrier. Such an opening can be easily created by punching it out. It allows free access to the coiled catheter.

[0047] The removal recess is preferably designed in the form of a circular ring cutout. This allows the removal recess to be configured, in particular, to follow the shape of the rolled-up catheter. This particularly improves the handling of the deployment device and the catheter. It is advantageous if a center line of the circular ring cutout has a curvature that approximately corresponds to the curvature of the rolled-up catheter held on the deployment device in the storage position. This allows the user to easily grasp the catheter along the entire length of the removal recess in the circumferential direction relative to the center of the holding circle and remove it from the deployment device.

[0048] Preferably, the circular ring cutout extends over an angular range of approximately 30° to approximately 60°, in particular over an angular range of approximately 40° to approximately 50°.

[0049] It is advantageous if the removal recess has a width in the radial direction relative to the center of the holding circle that allows the catheter held on the delivery device to be grasped with two fingers. This allows a user to remove the catheter from the delivery device reliably and without damaging it.

[0050] Preferably, the removal recess is positioned on the holding circle between the two holding elements that are at the greatest angular distance from each other. At the described position, the catheter can be grasped by a user and removed from the carrier with minimal effort and without significant resistance from holding tabs or the like, particularly in a rolled-up form.

[0051] According to a further preferred embodiment, it can be provided that the provision device comprises a wire holding device for holding a free end thereof, which protrudes from a wire channel of the catheter from an opening in the wire channel pointing in the direction of its first end. This configuration makes it possible, in particular, to hold the wire, which is usually used for transport purposes, specifically on the provision device. In particular, it can thus also be specifically grasped by a user. Preferably, the wire holding device is arranged or designed on the carrier such that it is positioned neither on the holding circle nor on the adapter holding longitudinal axis. In this way, a free end of the wire can be kept easily accessible separate from the coiled catheter and also separate from the first end thereof.Advantageously, the wire holding device is arranged or formed in a region between the holding circle and the adapter holding device.

[0052] Advantageously, the wire holding device comprises at least one wire holding element. This element can be used to reliably hold the wire on the supply device in a desired orientation.

[0053] It is advantageous if the at least one wire holding element is designed in the form of a wire holding tab, and if a free end of the wire holding tab is oriented toward the carrier center. This configuration makes it possible, in particular, to reliably hold the free wire end on the supply device. In particular, the orientation of the wire holding tab can prevent the free end from spreading out, especially beyond a carrier edge.

[0054] It is advantageous if the wire retaining tab is formed by a wire retaining cut line formed on the carrier and having two free ends, if the wire retaining tab defines a wire retaining tab base line that connects the two free ends of the wire retaining cut line, and if a free wire retaining tab length of the wire retaining tab is defined by a distance of the free wire retaining tab end from the wire retaining tab base line. As already explained in detail above in connection with the retaining tab, such a wire retaining tab can be easily formed integrally with the carrier.

[0055] The provisioning device can be realized simply and cost-effectively if it is made from a flat material. This also allows the size, in particular the volume required by the provisioning device, to be kept to a minimum. The flat material forming a blank for the provisioning device is preferably a sheet of cardboard or paperboard. The provisioning device can be manufactured inexpensively and easily from this, for example by punching. The flat material is advantageously coated with a plastic. This allows the provisioning device to be designed to be particularly water-resistant, even if the flat material, such as cardboard or paperboard, is not water-resistant.

[0056] It is advantageous if the flat material forming a blank of the delivery device is made of plastic. This makes it possible, in particular, to construct the carrier monolithically from a plastic. Such a delivery device can be designed to be water-resistant. Furthermore, cut edges on a flat material made from a cardboard or paperboard sheet can cause problems, since such a sheet always contains fibers whose ends can then protrude freely. This can lead to undesirable detachment of fibers from the carrier, particularly in a sterile environment. It may therefore be necessary to treat the cut edges of such a carrier made from a cardboard or paperboard sheet in an additional processing step, for example by coating or laminating the cut edges and, if necessary, other areas of the carrier, or by otherwise covering the partially exposed fibers or bonding them to the carrier. This problem cannot occur with a flat plastic material. The flat material can, in particular, be in the form of a film or a plate.

[0057] To minimize damage to a carrier made from a cardboard or paperboard sheet caused by liquids, it is advantageous for the carrier to be provided with a liquid-repellent coating. For example, this can be water-repellent.

[0058] The liquid-repellent coating is preferably made of a plastic. In particular, the coating can be formed by a plastic film with which the carrier is laminated. The plastic used for coating or forming the flat material is preferably or contains polypropylene (PP), high-density polyethylene (HDPE), polylactide (PLA, especially PLLA), polyamide (PA), polyethylene (PE), low-density polyethylene (LDPE), and / or polyethylene terephthalate (PET). Delivery devices can thus be designed simply and cost-effectively.

[0059] The manufacture of the provision device can be further simplified if it is formed in one piece, in particular monolithically.

[0060] In order to minimize the space required for the provision device, it is advantageous if the carrier has a carrier thickness in a range from approximately 0.05 mm to approximately 1 mm, in particular in a range from approximately 0.2 mm to approximately 0.4 mm.

[0061] According to a further preferred embodiment, the deployment device can have a front side and a rear side, and the holding device can be designed to hold the catheter on the front side. In particular, all elements of the holding device, as well as all other elements described above, can be arranged or designed on the deployment device in such a way that the catheter can be reliably secured on one side of the carrier, namely on the front side, in the storage position.

[0062] It is advantageous if the provision device comprises at least one data storage element for storing characteristic data of the catheter, in particular length, diameter, inflation pressure, and balloon diameter. The data storage element can be, in particular, an electronic data storage element. This can, for example, be read wirelessly using appropriate reading devices. This can, in particular, simplify the documentation of medical interventions. It is advantageous if the at least one data storage element is arranged on the front or the back and is designed to be optically readable. For example, the data storage element can be designed in the form of a barcode or a QR code.Optionally, the characteristic data of the catheter can also be printed in legible font in a spatially limited data area on the front and / or back, so that a user can directly read all the data characteristic of the catheter himself, without the aid of technical aids such as readers.

[0063] According to a further preferred embodiment, the deployment device can comprise a catheter, in particular a PTCA catheter. This can in particular comprise a wire which forms a type of reset device to stabilize the catheter in an elongated shape. This is particularly advantageous when inserting the catheter into a patient's blood vessels. The proposed deployment device is particularly advantageous for this type of catheter, in particular, since it can position the catheter securely and in a defined manner and hold it in the rolled-up storage position on the carrier with the at least three holding elements engaging with the catheter in the storage position, at least one of which prevents movement of the catheter in the storage position toward the center of the holding circle and at least one of which prevents movement away from the center of the holding circle. For so-called OTW catheters, which are flexible, no support is required as suggested. OTW catheters do not contain a wire, so the catheter cannot simply snap into an elongated, basic position, as is the case with PTCA catheters.

[0064] It is advantageous if the catheter has a first end and a second end, if a connection adapter is arranged or formed at the first end, and if an inflatable balloon is arranged or formed in the region of the second end. Such a catheter can be used to optimally treat coronary stenosis, as already explained above, by dilating a coronary vessel using the balloon.

[0065] In order to protect the catheter, in particular the balloon, it is advantageous if a removable protective cover is arranged at the second end, enclosing the balloon.

[0066] In order to be able to inflate the balloon easily with a gas, it is advantageous if the catheter comprises a fluid channel which fluidically connects the connection adapter to the balloon.

[0067] Furthermore, it is advantageous if the catheter comprises a wire channel for a wire, and if the wire channel extends from the second end in the proximal direction to an insertion opening arranged or formed on the catheter between the first and second ends. Preferably, it is arranged or formed closer to the second end than to the first end, where the connection adapter is located. The wire channel makes it possible, in particular, to guide the catheter to a coronary vessel using a guide wire.

[0068] It is advantageous if the catheter includes a wire arranged in the wire channel, and if the wire is longer than the wire channel. This way, the wire, which is positioned in the wire channel for transport purposes, for example, protrudes from the wire channel at one end, allowing it to be easily grasped and pulled out by a user.

[0069] Advantageously, the wire is designed as a transport wire. It serves solely for transport purposes, particularly to keep the catheter as dimensionally stable as possible on the delivery device.

[0070] It is advantageous if the catheter is held on the deployment device in the storage position such that the first end and / or the second end are oriented transversely, in particular perpendicularly, to the carrier edge. In particular, both the first end and the second end can be held on the deployment device facing the same side of the carrier. This significantly improves the handling of the deployment device.

[0084] Figure 14: a schematic representation of a further step of the third option for removing the catheter from the delivery device.

[0085] Figure 1 schematically illustrates a first embodiment of a provision device, designated overall by reference numeral 10, for the storage and transport of a catheter 12. The catheter 12 is designed in the form of a balloon catheter 14 for percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty.

[0086] The catheter 12 has a first end 16 and a second end 18. A connection adapter 20 with a so-called Luer-Lock connector 22 is arranged or formed at the first end 16. An inflatable balloon 24 is arranged or formed in the region of the second end 18. A protective sheath 26 is pushed onto the second end 18 and surrounds the balloon 24. The catheter 12 comprises a fluid channel (not shown in the figures) that fluidically connects the connection adapter 20 and the balloon 24.

[0087] Furthermore, a wire channel for a wire 28 is formed on the catheter 12. The wire channel, which is not shown in the figures, extends from the second end 18 in the proximal direction to an insertion opening 30, which is arranged or formed on the catheter 12 between the first end 16 and the second end 18. The distance between the insertion opening 30 and the second end is smaller than the distance to the first end 16.

[0088] A wire 28 is positioned in the wire channel of the catheter 12. This wire is longer than the wire channel, so that a proximal end 32, pointing toward the connection adapter 20, protrudes from the insertion opening 30. The wire 28 is designed as a transport wire that is removed before a medical procedure.

[0089] The provision device 10 comprises a carrier 34, on which a holding device 36 is arranged or configured to hold the annularly coiled catheter 12 in a storage position. The holding device 36 comprises at least three holding elements 38a, 38b, and 38c—exactly three in the embodiment illustrated in the figures—which engage with the catheter 12 in the storage position.

[0090] The three holding elements 38a, 38b, and 38c are, as clearly visible in the figures, arranged or formed spatially separate from one another on the carrier 34. However, they cooperate to hold the catheter 12 on the carrier 34.

[0091] The provisioning device 10, namely the carrier 34, is made of a flat material that forms a carrier blank. Cardboard and cardboard sheets are particularly suitable as the flat material. In an alternative embodiment, the flat material used to form the carrier 34 is made of plastic.

[0092] The carrier 34 is optionally provided with a liquid-repellent coating 40, specifically on both a front side 42 and a back side 44. The coating 40 is made of a plastic. In particular, the coating can be implemented in the form of a plastic film.

[0093] The plastic from which the flat material is formed or with which it is coated is or contains polypropylene (PP), high-density polyethylene (HDPE), polylactide (PLA, in particular PLLA), polyamide (PA), polyethylene (PE), low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and / or polyethylene terephthalate (PET).

[0094] The provision device 10 is formed as a single piece, namely monolithic.

[0095] The carrier 34 has a carrier thickness 46 in a range from approximately 0.05 mm to approximately 1 mm. In particular, the carrier thickness 46 can have a value in a range from approximately 0.2 mm to approximately 0.4 mm.

[0096] The holding device 36 is designed to hold the catheter 12 on the front side 42 of the carrier 34, as will be explained in more detail below.

[0097] The three holding elements 38a, 38b, and 38c are positioned along a holding circle 48, which is schematically shown in dashed lines in Figure 7. The holding circle 48 defines a holding circle center point 50.

[0098] Two of the three holding elements 38a, 38b, and 38c, namely the holding elements 38a and 38c, are positioned point-symmetrically with respect to the holding circle center 50 on the carrier 34. The three holding elements 38a, 38b, and 38c define a holding area 52 that extends around the holding circle center 50. The holding area 52 of the holding circle 48 defines a holding circle circumferential angle 54 of at least 180°. Preferably, the value of the holding circle circumferential angle 54 lies in a range between 180° and 240°. In the exemplary embodiment illustrated in the figures, the holding circle circumferential angle 54 is just under 200°.

[0099] The carrier 34 has an outer circumferential carrier edge 56. The entire surface of the front side 42 surrounded by the carrier edge 56 encloses a storage area 58. The catheter 12 is arranged within the storage area 58 in the storage position, with one exception that will be explained later.

[0100] The three holding elements 38a, 38b, and 38c are designed as holding tabs 60. A free holding tab end 62 of the holding tab 60 is oriented toward a support center 64 of the support 34. In the embodiment illustrated in the figures, the holding circle center 50 forms the support center 64.

[0101] The retaining tab 60 is formed by a retaining cut line 66 formed on the carrier 35. This has two free ends 68. A retaining tab base line 70 of the retaining tab 60 connects the two free ends 68.

[0102] A free retaining tab length 72 of the retaining tab 60 is defined by a distance of the free retaining tab end 62 from the retaining tab base line 70. The retaining section line 66 is convexly curved toward the support center 64. It has the shape of a circular arc section.

[0103] The retaining tab base lines 70 of the two retaining tabs 60, which form the retaining elements 38a and 38c, run parallel to each other. The retaining tab base lines 70 of the retaining tabs 60, which form the retaining elements 38a and 38b, run transversely, namely perpendicular to each other. The retaining tab base lines 70 of the retaining tabs 60, which form the retaining elements 38b and 38c, also run transversely, namely perpendicular to each other.

[0104] A distance 74 of the retaining tab base line 70 of the retaining tab 60, which forms the holding element 38b, from the carrier edge 56 is smaller than its free retaining tab length 72.

[0105] The three retaining tabs 60 forming the retaining elements 38a, 38b, and 38c are each positioned close to the carrier edge 56. The respective retaining tab base lines 70 run parallel or substantially parallel to the carrier edge 56.

[0106] The support 34 has a substantially rectangular shape. Two adjacent corners 76 and 78 are rounded with a small radius, and another corner 80 adjacent to corner 78 is rounded with a large radius. In the region of a fourth corner 82, defined between corners 76 and 80, an adapter recess 84 is formed, which shortens both rectilinear support edge sections 86 and 88 of the support edge 56 that define corner 82.

[0107] The holding device 36 further comprises two retaining elements 90a and 90b. These are designed to prevent movement of the catheter 12 in the storage position toward the holding circle center 50.

[0108] The retaining elements 90a and 90b are designed in the form of retaining tabs 92. A free retaining tab end 94 of the retaining tab 92 is oriented radially away from the carrier center 64.

[0109] The retaining tab 62 is formed by a retaining cut line 96 on the carrier 34. The retaining cut line 96 has two free ends 98. These are connected by a retaining tab base line 100. A free retaining tab length 102 of the retaining tab 92 is defined by a distance of the retaining tab end 94 from the retaining tab base line 100. The retaining cut line 96 is concavely curved toward the carrier center 64, specifically in the form of a circular arc section.

[0110] The two retaining elements 90a and 90b are positioned along the retaining circle 48, specifically between the two retaining elements 38a and 38c, which are at the greatest angular distance from each other. The angular distance between the retaining elements 38a and 38b is approximately the same as the angular distance between the retaining elements 38b and 38c and is approximately 80° each. The angular distance between the retaining elements 38a and 38c, in contrast, is approximately 170°.

[0111] The delivery device 10 further comprises an adapter holding device 104 for holding the connection adapter 20 arranged at the first end 16 of the catheter 12. The adapter holding device 104 comprises two adapter holding elements 106a and 106b.

[0112] The two cooperating adapter holding elements 106a and 106b are designed as adapter holding tabs 108. Free adapter tab ends 110 of the two adapter holding elements 106a and 106b are aligned toward each other.

[0113] The adapter tab ends 110 facing each other are spaced apart from each other and thus form an adapter holding web 112 on the carrier 34.

[0114] The adapter holding device 104 defines an adapter holding longitudinal axis 114. The adapter holding web 112 extends parallel to the adapter holding longitudinal axis 114.

[0115] The adapter holding device 104 is designed symmetrically with respect to the adapter holding longitudinal axis 114. The adapter holding tab 108 is defined by an adapter cutting line 116 comprising three straight sections, so that a substantially square adapter holding tab 108 is formed. Free ends 118 of the adapter cutting line 116 are connected to one another via an adapter holding tab base line 120. The two adapter holding tab base lines 120 of the two adapter holding tabs 108 extend slightly inclined away from one another in the direction of the adapter recess and thus are not parallel to the adapter holding longitudinal axis 114. Alternatively, and also preferably, the two adapter holding tab base lines 120 extend parallel to one another, in particular also parallel to the carrier edge section 88.

[0116] The retaining tab base line 70 of the retaining tab 60, which forms the retaining element 38a, runs parallel to the adapter retaining longitudinal axis 114.

[0117] The adapter recess 84 is formed adjacent to the adapter holding device 104, as already explained, starting from the carrier edge 56. By providing the adapter recess 84, a portion of the carrier 34 is missing, which would be limited by extensions of the carrier edge sections 86 and 88 in the direction of the corner 82.

[0118] The delivery device 10 further comprises a balloon holding device 122 for the balloon 24, which is arranged or formed in the region of the second end 18 of the catheter 12. The balloon holding device 122 defines a balloon holding longitudinal axis 124. The balloon holding device 122 is designed asymmetrically with respect to the balloon holding longitudinal axis 124. It comprises two balloon holding elements 126a and 126b.

[0119] The two cooperating balloon holding elements 126a and 126b are designed as balloon holding tabs 128a and 128b. Free balloon holding tab ends 130a and 130b of the balloon holding tabs 128a and 128b point in the same direction in an undeformed initial position of the provisioning device 10, i.e., when only the cuts for forming them have been made on the carrier. This is illustrated schematically in Figure 7. The free balloon holding tab ends 130a and 130b point toward the carrier edge section 88.

[0120] The balloon holding tabs 128a and 128b are formed by balloon holding cut lines 132a and 132b on the carrier 34. Free ends 134a and 134b of the balloon holding cut lines 132a and 132b are connected to each other by a balloon holding tab base line 136a and 136b, respectively. A free balloon holding tab length 138a and 138b is defined by a distance of the free balloon holding tab end 130a and 130b, respectively, from the respective balloon holding tab base line 136a and 136b, respectively.

[0121] The balloon holding cutting lines 132a and 132b are curved, namely in the form of circular arc sections.

[0122] The two balloon holding tab base lines 136a and 136b run parallel to each other and parallel to the balloon holding longitudinal axis 124.

[0123] The balloon-holding cut lines 132a and 132b of the two cooperating balloon-holding tabs 128a and 128b are different lengths and also have different radii of curvature. The balloon-holding cut line 132a is longer than the balloon-holding cut line 132b. In contrast, the balloon-holding cut line 132b is more curved than the balloon-holding cut line 132a. Thus, the radius of curvature of the balloon-holding cut line 132b is smaller than the radius of curvature of the balloon-holding cut line 132a. Nevertheless, the two balloon-holding tab lengths 138a and 138b of the two balloon-holding tabs 128a and 128b are essentially the same.

[0124] Furthermore, the holding tab base line 70 of the holding tab 60, which forms the holding element 38c, is aligned parallel to the balloon holding longitudinal axis 124. Thus, the second end of the catheter 12 can be guided tangentially away from the wound region toward the balloon holding device 122. The deployment device 10 further comprises a tip recess 140. It is formed in the form of an opening 142 on the carrier 34. The tip recess 140 is positioned adjacent to the balloon holding device 122, pointing in the direction of the balloon holding longitudinal axis 124, specifically in the region of the corner 76. The balloon holding longitudinal axis 124 points toward the carrier edge portion 86.

[0125] As shown schematically in Figure 1, the second end 18 of the catheter 12 is positioned in the storage position in the region of the tip recess 140.

[0126] The tip recess 140 is further dimensioned such that a user can grasp the second end 18 of the catheter 12 held on the carrier 34 with two fingers.

[0127] Furthermore, a removal recess 144 is arranged or formed on the carrier 34. In the storage position, as schematically illustrated in Figure 1, at least two catheter sections or coils of the catheter 12, which is held rolled up on the carrier 34, extend in the region of the removal recess 144; in the illustrated embodiment, there are three.

[0128] The removal recess 144 is formed in the form of an opening 146 on the carrier 34. It is shaped like an elongated hole, specifically in the form of a circular ring cutout 150.

[0129] A center line 148 of the circular ring cutout 150 has a curvature which approximately corresponds to a curvature of the rolled-up catheter 12 held in the storage position on the provision device 10, as shown schematically in Figure 1.

[0130] The circular ring cutout 150 extends over an angular range 152 of approximately 30° to approximately 60°. In particular, the angular range can be approximately 40° to approximately 50°. In the exemplary embodiment illustrated in the figures, the angular range extends over approximately 45°.

[0131] The removal recess 144 has a width 154 in the radial direction relative to the holding circle center 50. The width 154 is dimensioned such that it allows the catheter 12, held flat on the carrier 34, to be grasped with two fingers, namely a thumb 156 and an index finger 158, as schematically shown in Figure 11.

[0132] The removal recess 144 is further positioned on the holding circle 48, specifically between the two holding elements 38a and 38c, which have the greatest angular separation from each other, as already explained in detail above. The annular cutout 150 can form a portion of the holding circle 48.

[0133] The provision device 10 further comprises a wire holding device 160 for holding the end 32 of the wire 28 protruding from the wire channel. In the embodiment shown in the figures, it is positioned in the area between the holding element 38a and the adapter holding device 104.

[0134] The wire holding device 160 comprises a wire holding element 162. The wire holding element 162 is designed in the form of a wire holding tab 164. A free wire holding tab end 166 of the wire holding tab 164 is oriented toward the carrier center 64.

[0135] To form the wire holding tab 164, a wire holding cut line 168 is formed on the carrier 34. The wire holding tab 164 defines a wire holding tab base line 170. This connects free ends 172 of the wire holding cut line 168 to one another. A wire holding tab length 174 of the wire holding tab 164 is defined by a distance of the wire holding tab end 166 from the wire holding tab base line 170. The deployment device 10 further comprises a data storage element 176 for storing characteristic data of the catheter 12 held on the deployment device 10. Characteristic data of the catheter include, in particular, its length, a catheter sheath diameter, an inflation pressure, and a balloon diameter, which can be specified depending on the inflation pressure.

[0136] The data storage element 176 is designed as a printed data area 178 on the front side 42 of the carrier 34. The data storage element 176 is optically readable. The characteristic data is printed in Latin script so that it can be read directly by a user.

[0137] The holding elements 38a, 38b, and 38c extend over a circumferential angle 180 of approximately 10°. The circumferential angle is defined by the opening angle from the holding circle center 50 to the free ends 68 of the holding intersection lines 66. In this way, the holding elements 38a, 38b, and 38a can each hold the rolled-up catheter 12 over a circumferential angle 180 of approximately 10°.

[0138] Printed on the back 44 are operating instructions 182 for the use of the delivery device 10, as well as its handling and the handling of the catheter 12. These are the illustrations in Figures 9 to 14, which will be briefly explained below. The operating instructions 182 also form a data area and thus define a data storage element.

[0139] The special design of the deployment device 10 enables three different removal options for the catheter 12 from the carrier 34. Figure 9 shows a first variant. A user grasps the carrier 34 with their right hand in the area of the adapter holding device 104 and thus also holds the connection adapter 20. They can then grasp the second end 18 of the catheter 12 with their other hand and remove the catheter 12 coil by coil from the carrier 34. In particular, they can leave the catheter 12 on the carrier 34 so that only the section of the catheter 12 which encompasses the wire channel is removed from the carrier 34. Figure 10 shows how the connection adapter 20 is still held on the adapter holding device 104, but already coupled to a flushing device. Furthermore, the protective sheath 26 can be easily removed from the second end 18 once the second end 18 has been detached from the carrier 34.

[0140] Furthermore, according to a second variant, the provision device 10 also enables the disengagement of the rolled-up catheter 12 and the three holding elements 38a, 38b, and 38c without stretching the catheter 12. To do so, a user simply needs to grasp the catheter 12 in the region of the removal recess 144 with two fingers (in Figure 11, thumb 156 and index finger 158 are shown as an example). If the user holds the carrier 34 in the region of the corner 78 with their other hand, they can withdraw the rolled-up catheter 12 entirely. To prevent the catheter 12 from unrolling, the user should now simply loop the first end 16 with the connection adapter 20 twice around the rolled-up catheter 12, as schematically shown in Figure 12.

[0141] A third option for removing the catheter 12 from the delivery device 10 is schematically illustrated in Figures 13 and 14. A user grasps the second end 18 by engaging the tip recess 140 with one hand. With the other hand, the user firmly holds the connection adapter 20 with the carrier 34. Pulling the second end 18 to the left in the direction of the arrow unrolls the catheter 12, allowing the user to hold the catheter 12 straight between both hands.

[0142] In the embodiment described in the figures, the catheter 12 is held in the storage position on the provisioning device 10 such that the first end 16 and the second end 18 are aligned transversely, namely perpendicularly, to the support edge 56, namely to the support edge portion 86. The three holding elements 38a, 38b, and 38c can optionally each comprise a plurality of fold lines 184 that run parallel to one another and parallel to the holding tab base line 70. This makes it possible to fold or bend the holding tabs 60 along the fold lines such that they extend in an arcuate manner and overlap the wound catheter 12 in an arcuate manner.

[0143] The two balloon retaining tabs 128a and 128b are used as follows to hold the catheter 12 in the region of the balloon 24. The balloon retaining tab 128b is folded around the balloon retaining tab base line 136b toward the balloon retaining tab 128a, but without folding or bending it relative to the carrier 34 along the balloon retaining tab base line 136b. It is pushed under the balloon retaining tab 128a with the free balloon retaining tab end 130b. Due to the somewhat elastic property of the material from which the carrier 34 is formed, the balloon retaining tab 128a is pushed slightly away from the front side 42, so that the balloon retaining tabs 128a and 128b together span the balloon 24 in an arc-like manner, as schematically illustrated in Figure 4.

[0144] The described provision device enables a flat storage of the catheter 12 on the front side 42 of the carrier 34. In particular, a maximum flat storage of the catheter 12 can be enabled overall.

[0145] Furthermore, the supply device allows three variants of removal as described above.

[0146] Once the second end is removed from the carrier 34, the protective sheath 26 and the wire 28 can be removed. The catheter 12 can be threaded onto the actual guidewire used for the medical procedure and then inserted into a guide catheter.

[0147] A further advantage of the described provision device 10 is that the carrier 34 remains in the position shown in FIG. 1 until the final removal of the catheter 12, in particular until the removal of the connection adapter 20 from the adapter holding device

[0148] 104, remains on the carrier 34 and a user always has all information about the catheter 12 used by him directly available, since the data area 178 remains coupled to the catheter 12 via the connection adapter 20.
