AI Technical Summary
Existing hair care products fail to provide persistent conditioning effects and prevent irreversible hair deformation and breakage, especially in damaged or sensitized hair, due to rapid odour issues when using pyrimidine derivatives at acidic pH.
A composition comprising pyrimidine derivatives, such as thiamine chloride, combined with unsaturated fatty acids like oleic acid, in a pH range of 3.5 to 6.5, ensuring stability and preventing hair breakage and deformation during combing or disentangling.
The composition effectively prevents hair breakage and deformation while maintaining storage stability and odor neutrality, providing long-lasting conditioning benefits.

Abstract
Description
COMPOSITION AND PROCESS FOR TREATING KERATIN FIBRES USING AT LEAST ONE PARTICULAR PYRIMIDINE DERIVATIVE AND AT LEAST ONE UNSATURATED FATTY ACIDTECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[0001] The present invention relates to a composition comprising at least one unsaturated fatty acid and at least one particular pyrimidine derivative and also to a process for treating keratin fibres using this composition.BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0002] The hair can be damaged and embrittled by external atmospheric agents such as pollution and bad weather, and also by mechanical or chemical treatments, or certain routines, such as brushing, combing, dyeing, bleaching, permanent-waving, relaxing and repeated washing. The hair may end up deformed and damaged and may in the long run become dry, coarse, brittle, dull, split and / or limp.
[0003] To overcome this, it is common practice to resort to hair compositions intended for conditioning the hair by giving it satisfactory cosmetic properties, notably smoothness, sheen, a soft feel, suppleness, lightness, good disentangling properties leading to easy combing, and good manageability of the hair which is thus easier to style and holds its shape. However, the conditioning effect obtained with these hair care products fades rapidly over time, does not always show satisfactory persistence with respect to shampoo washing and does not prevent irreversible deformation of the hair due to elongation of the fibres, for example during combing or disentangling, nor does it repair or prevent hair breakage.
[0004] It is known practice to use pyrimidine derivatives such as thiamine (vitamin B1) or a salt thereof in hair compositions intended for conditioning the hair so as to preserve or even improve the quality of the hair. However, the storage in solution of these derivatives, in particular when they are used in hair care products formulated at acidic pH, generates an odour that is unpleasant for the consumer and therefore limits their use, in particular at high concentration.
[0005] Thus, there is a real need to develop a hair composition characterized by good storage stability with respect to odour, which comprises at least one particular pyrimidine derivative, making it possible to prevent irreversible deformation of the hair, notably of damaged and / or sensitized hair, due to elongation of the fibres, for example during combing or disentangling, and to repair or prevent breakage of the hair, notably of damaged and / or sensitized hair.
[0006] The applicant has discovered, surprisingly, that all or some of these objectives can be achieved by means of the composition according to the present invention.SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0089] b.Study of the stability of the compositions
[0090] Each of the compositions A1to A30and B1to B3were placed in two separate flasks sealed with Parafilm to prevent vapour leaks. One of the two flasks was placed in an oven at 66°C for 1 week to study the storage stability at elevated temperatures. The other flask was left at ambient temperature (22°C). After one week, the flasks are left to stand for 2 h so that the flasks at 66°C return to ambient temperature. Then, each bottle, one after the other, is opened for 5 seconds and an olfactory evaluation is made. The intensity of the change in odour of the formulations, after storage, is evaluated using the scale: 0 = no odour, 1 = very weak odour, 2 = weak odour, 3 = noticeable odour, 4 = intense and unpleasant odour, 5 = very intense and very unpleasant odour.
[0091] Only the formulations with a score of 0 to 2 inclusive are judged to be stable.
[0092] c.Study of breakage and irreversible deformation of the hair
[0093] The compositions A1to A30and B1to B3were applied according to the application protocol described below and evaluated with regard to their integrity, namely their resistance to breakage and to irreversible deformation according to the test protocol described below.Application protocol
[0094] Damaged locks of hair (type 1 cf. De la Mettrie R, et al. Shape variability and classification of human hair: A worldwide approach. Human Biology. 2007; 79: 265-281) are washed with DOP shampoo, then wrung between the fingers (2 passes). The wet locks are then placed on a flat surface and then the compositions A1to A30and B1to B3, freshly prepared, are applied separately to said locks with a bath ratio of 0.2 (namely 0.2 g of composition per 1 g of hair).
[0095] The locks are then massaged with the fingers, making circular movements throughout each lock (5 times), then the locks are left to dry in an incubator at 60°C (10 min / g of hair). These shampooing and formulation application and drying steps are repeated to have 6 applications in total.
[0096] A damaged and untreated lock of hair is used as a reference.Test protocol
[0097] The test consists in pulling on the damp hair to see if it breaks, deforms irreversibly or becomes deformed and then returns to its original shape and length. The test is commonly used by hairdressers to evaluate the integrity of their clients’ hair. The test consists in taking a lock of hair, soaking it in water for 30 seconds and then taking and holding three hair fibres between the index finger and thumb of both hands (each hand takes one end of the fibres). The fibres are then put under slight tension by moving the fingers and thumbs of each hand apart so that there are 3 centimetres of fibre between the hands, and then pulling so that the fibres are deformed by a further 1 cm. A ruler is used to ensure that the stretching distances are respected. The fibres are held for 3 seconds and then the tension is gently released. The fibres are placed horizontally on absorbent paper for 5 minutes to allow them to dry, and are then evaluated.
[0098] The test is repeated five times, for a total of 15 fibres.
[0099] The hair integrity performance is graded according to the following rules:● If the sum of the broken and irreversibly deformed fibres is greater than or equal to 10, the hair has very poor integrity.● If the sum of the broken and irreversibly deformed fibres is between 6 and 9 inclusive, the individual hair has a poor integrity.● If the sum of the broken and irreversibly deformed fibres is between 2 and 5 inclusive, the individual hair has a good integrity.● If the sum of the broken and irreversibly deformed fibres is 1 or less, the individual hair has a very good integrity.d.
