Method of separating carbon dioxide from an air stream, absorbent for absorption of carbon dioxide from a gas stream, and method of separating off carbon dioxide in an electrochemical desorption unit

Abstract

A method of separating off carbon dioxide in an electrochemical desorption unit is specified. In one embodiment, the method of separating off carbon dioxide in an electrochemical desorption unit, where the electrochemical desorption unit comprises at least a first chamber and a second chamber separated by a cation-selective membrane, comprises the steps of: - introducing a first solution into the first chamber, where a molar concentration of hydrogencarbonate in the first solution is at least twice as high as a molar concentration of carbonate, - electrochemically desorbing carbon dioxide from the first solution to release carbon dioxide and form a second solution from the first solution. Additionally specified are a method of separating carbon dioxide from an air stream and an absorbent for absorption of carbon dioxide from a gas stream.
