Abstract
Track section, in particular rail for railway vehicles, made of a low-alloy steel, wherein the rail head of the track section has a microstructure comprising 5-15 vol.% austenite and 85-95 vol.% carbide-free bainite, wherein the sum of austenite and carbide-free bainite is at least 98 vol.%, wherein the carbide-free bainite consists of upper bainite and, in a light microscopic measurement at a depth of up to 15 mm below the rail head surface, the area fraction of the granular microstructure is 50-80% and that of the lamellar microstructure is 20-50%, wherein a low-alloy steel with the following typical analysis is used: 0.14-0.20 wt.% C, 0.90-1.10 wt.% Si, 1.40-1.80 wt.% Mn, 0.10-0.25 wt.% Cr and 0.06-0.10 wt.% Mo.
