[0001] Description

[0002] Seat system with adjustment lock

[0003] The present invention relates to a method for operating a seating system for a motor vehicle. Furthermore, the invention relates to a seating system for a motor vehicle and a motor vehicle with such a seating system.

[0004] Seat systems for motor vehicles are known in which the seats are adjustable via seat actuators. The seat actuators can be operated via a control device of the seat system, which can be controlled via a user interface, such as a touchscreen, a button, an app, or the like. Such seat actuators can be used to specifically change, for example, the angle of inclination of a seat backrest, the height of a seat surface, the position of the seat surface in the longitudinal direction of the motor vehicle, or the like. Document DE 103 13 592 A1 discloses a seat system that has storable seat positions that can be retrieved by pressing a corresponding shortcut on the user interface. In this way, several pre-stored target seat position parameters can be specified simultaneously.

[0005] When the vehicle is parked, the seating positions of motor vehicles can be adjusted almost arbitrarily within the available adjustment options, for example, to an upright sitting position or a reclining position. However, problems with certain seating positions can arise when the vehicle is moved, as certain seating positions may not meet legal requirements, such as "UN R-14," while driving, or may reduce the protective effect of occupant safety systems, such as seat belts, airbags, or body elements.

[0006] Document WO 2021 / 155 982 A1 discloses a seat system for an automatically driving motor vehicle. The seat system is designed to issue a warning message if a driver's seat is to be adjusted in such a way that safe intervention by the driver in the steering of the motor vehicle is not guaranteed. Document DE 102022 003 177 A1 discloses a seat system for a motor vehicle that has a camera via which the position of a passenger of the motor vehicle can be determined. The seat system is also designed to issue a warning message if the passenger's seat position is already outside the effective range of an airbag. Various seat adjustment systems for motor vehicles and their actuation methods are known from documents DE 10 2020 103 200 A1 and DE 102019 207406 A1.

[0007] Existing seating systems have the disadvantage that they generally allow seating positions that could potentially endanger the occupants. This can lead to driving situations in which a vehicle occupant is not adequately protected by the vehicle's safety system and is unaware of the situation.

[0008] It is therefore an object of the present invention to remedy, or at least partially remedy, the above-described disadvantages in a seating system for a motor vehicle. In particular, the object of the present invention is to provide a method for operating a seating system for a motor vehicle, a seating system for a motor vehicle, and a motor vehicle with a seating system that improve the safety of the occupants of the motor vehicle in a simple and cost-effective manner.

[0009] The above object is achieved by the patent claims. Accordingly, the object is achieved by a method for operating a seating system for a motor vehicle having the features of independent claim 1, by a seating system for a motor vehicle having the features of the independent claim 9 and by a motor vehicle having a seating system having the features of the independent claim 10. Further features and details of the invention emerge from the subclaims, the description and the drawings. Features and details that are described in connection with the method according to the invention for operating a seating system for a motor vehicle naturally also apply in connection with the seating system according to the invention and the motor vehicle according to the invention and vice versa, so that with regard to the disclosure of the individual aspects of the invention, reference is and can always be made reciprocal.

[0010] According to a first aspect of the invention, the object is achieved by a method for operating a seating system for a motor vehicle. The method comprises:

[0011] - detecting a seat position of a seat of the seat system occupied by a passenger of the motor vehicle by a control device of the seat system, - determining first position limit values of the seat, within which the safety of the passenger corresponds to a predetermined first safety criterion, by the control device and

[0012] - detecting a change request transmitted by an operator of the seat system to change the seat position by the control device, wherein the control device transmits a confirmation request to the operator if the change request is intended to cause at least one first position limit value of the first position limit values to be exceeded, wherein the operator is prompted to react by the confirmation request, wherein the adjustment of the seat position beyond the first position limit values by corresponding control of seat adjustment actuators by the control device only takes place when the user corresponds to the confirmation request by an affirmative input.

[0013] First, the control device detects the seat position of the seat occupied by the occupant of the motor vehicle. The occupant is preferably an occupant of a second row of seats or a seat row located further back in the motor vehicle. Alternatively, the occupant can also be a front passenger of a first row of seats in the motor vehicle. The seat position can be detected, for example, by querying a setting position of one or more of the seat adjustment actuators. Alternatively, a camera sensor, a position sensor, an angle sensor, a position sensor, or the like can be used for this purpose. By detecting the seat position, one or more seat position parameters can be determined, such as an angle of inclination of a backrest of the seat, a height of a seat surface, a position of the seat surface in the longitudinal direction of the motor vehicle, an angle of inclination of the seat surface about a pitch axis of the motor vehicle, or the like. The seat position is preferably detected each time an interface is activated to adjust the seat position, so that the control device always knows the current seat position. Alternatively or additionally, the invention can provide for the detection to occur automatically, intermittently or continuously. Detection can also occur, for example, when the seat is detected to be occupied by a passenger.

[0014] Furthermore, the control device determines the first position limit values of the seat, within which the safety of the occupant corresponds to the predetermined first safety criterion. The first position limit values of the seat define an adjustment range of the seat, within which adjustment of the seat is possible without problems without violating the first safety criterion. Within this framework, the invention can provide that the control device determines only a first position limit value of the seat, such as the angle of inclination of the backrest, in particular if the seat has no further adjustment options or the other seat position parameters can only be adjusted within a non-critical range. Nevertheless, the invention can also provide that within this framework, the control device determines several first position limit values for different seat position parameters. For example, it can be determined that the seat position is already outside the first safe range. In this case, it is preferred that the control device transmits a confirmation request before the operator transmits a change request in order to determine whether or not the user wishes to adjust the seat to the first safe range.

[0015] According to the invention, the first safety criterion can be defined based on a legal requirement, such as UN R-14, or a manufacturer's specification, such as seating positions tailored to the motor vehicle's safety concept. Likewise, occupant-specific parameters, such as the driving style of the motor vehicle driver, a selected driving mode of the motor vehicle, such as a sport mode, a comfort mode, a maneuvering mode, an energy-saving mode, or the like, the height of the occupant sitting on the seat, the body weight of the occupant, the body proportions of the occupant, an injury or disability of the occupant, objects on or next to the occupant, or the like, can be used as influencing factors for the first safety criterion.

[0016] The control device detects the change request to change the seat position transmitted by the operator of the seat system, such as the occupant sitting on the respective seat, the driver, another occupant, or a person outside the motor vehicle. The change request can be transmitted to the control device by the operator, for example, via a touchscreen, a touchpad, a push button, a toggle switch, a trackball, a joystick, an app, or the like. The change request can include changing one or more seat parameters. The change request can include a desired seat position to be controlled or simply actuation directions—with or without corresponding actuation speeds—of the seat adjustment actuators.Preferably, the change request comprises the adjustment of an angle of inclination of the backrest of the seat about a horizontal inclination axis running transversely to the direction of travel, for example parallel to the pitch axis of the motor vehicle, and / or a seat height of the seat surface and / or a relative longitudinal position of the seat surface and / or an inclination of the seat surface about a horizontal inclination axis running transversely to the direction of travel, for example parallel to the pitch axis.

[0017] The control device compares the change request with the first position limit values and determines whether the change request should cause at least one of the first position limit values to be exceeded. This thus determines a potential departure from a first safe area of the seat. In the case of a change request involving a desired seat position, for example by specifying a pre-stored seat position, this can be determined immediately upon receipt of the change request. In this case, the adjustment of the seat position can be stopped or slowed down as soon as the change request is entered. It can also be provided that the boundary of the first safe area is approached. The confirmation request can also be transmitted en route to this boundary or only when the boundary is reached.

[0018] If the change request only concerns the actuation of one or more seat adjustment actuators and no final target seat position is transmitted, the control device preferably uses the current seat position for comparison. If the current seat position is at the boundary of the first safe range and the change request is intended to adjust the seat position beyond the boundary of the first safe range, the control device determines the potential departure from the first safe range and transmits the confirmation request to the operator.

[0019] When the control device detects that the first safe area has been left, the control device transmits the confirmation request to the operator. This occurs, for example, through a display on a touchscreen, a screen, an indicator light or the like. The confirmation request prompts the operator to respond, for example to acknowledge the confirmation request, actively agree to the confirmation request, or reject the confirmation request. Whether acknowledging the confirmation request is to be interpreted as an affirmative input or not depends on the presetting of the seating system and the content of the confirmation request. The confirmation request can, for example, contain an indication that an adjustment into an unsafe area is desired, which must be acknowledged with an "OK".In this case, the acknowledgement can be interpreted as an affirmative input. In a YES / NO El N query, "YES" is interpreted as an affirmative input to further adjust the seat position, and "NO" as a negative input, whereby the seat position should not be adjusted beyond the first safe area. The confirmation request can also ask the operator whether they wish to remain in the first safe area. In this case, according to the invention, a "NO" is interpreted as consent to adjust beyond the first safe area.

[0020] The control device evaluates the user input in response to the confirmation request and determines whether the user input is an affirmative input or a negative input. If the input is negative, the control device prevents the adjustment of the seat position beyond the boundary of the first safe range. If the input is affirmative, the control device continues adjusting the seat position in accordance with the change request beyond the boundary of the first safe range until further notice, preferably until the change request is fully or at least partially or as fully as possible fulfilled. Complete fulfillment of the change request may be prevented by other influencing factors, such as vehicle speed, legal requirements, or the like.

[0021] According to the invention, the confirmation request can be transmitted repeatedly as long as the seat position is outside the first safe range, particularly if the seat position is to be adjusted further away from the first safe range. Additionally or alternatively, the control device can initiate a restriction of the vehicle speed if the seat position is outside the first safe range.

[0022] A method according to the invention for operating a seating system for a motor vehicle has the advantage over conventional methods that it improves the avoidance of a potentially dangerous seating position for the occupant using simple means and in a cost-effective manner. At the same time, the occupant is given the option of deliberately accepting a loss of personal safety and adopting a potentially unsafe seating position.

[0023] According to a preferred further development of the invention, a method can be provided in which the control device controls the seat adjustment actuators to adjust the seat position according to the desired change within the first position limit values, even if the user does not provide any input in response to the confirmation request. This means that when a predefined seat position is selected, for example a stored reclining position, the seat is adjusted towards this reclining position until the limits of the first safe range are reached. At the limits, the adjustment movement is then stopped until the control device receives the user's affirmative input in response to the confirmation request. According to the invention, the confirmation request can be transmitted at any time between receipt of the change request and reaching the limit of the safe range. This has the advantage of ensuring particularly efficient, safe, and user-friendly seat position adjustment using simple and cost-effective means. Furthermore, it ensures that the operator has complete freedom in adjusting their seat position and is always informed about the safety of the current seat position.

[0024] According to the invention, it is preferred that a position of the occupant sitting on the seat within the motor vehicle is detected by the control device, wherein the first position limit values are determined depending on the occupant's position. People are known to have different external characteristics, such as height, proportions, body weight, handicaps, or the like. The occupant's position preferably takes several of these external characteristics into account. An optimal seating position, in which an occupant is particularly well protected by safety systems of the motor vehicle, such as a seat belt, an airbag, a body component, or the like, depends on these external characteristics. Taller people will generally require a lower seat height than shorter people.People with a long upper body in relation to their height will generally require a lower seat height than people with a shorter upper body in relation to their height. Heavier people have different inertial behavior in the event of a crash than lighter people. A handicap, such as glasses, a cast on their arm, a neck brace, or the like, can also influence a preferred seating position for better protection of the occupant. Such a handicap can, for example, increase the importance of a seat belt over an airbag, since the handicap can increase the occupant's risk of injury if the airbag collides with the occupant. The external properties can be determined using various sensors, such as a camera sensor, a weight sensor, or the like. This has the advantage that the safety of the motor vehicle occupants is further improved using simple and cost-effective means. More preferably, the first position limit values are determined as a function of the vehicle speed of the motor vehicle. This can be done, for example, in steps based on predetermined speed limit values. At a walking speed of between 3 km / h and 6 km / h, for example, relatively wide first position limit values can be defined so that a safe range for adjusting the seat position is relatively large. For example, a lying position with a horizontal or almost horizontal orientation of the backrest, i.e. an inclination of the backrest of between 90° and 70° to the vertical, or a semi-reclining position with an inclination of the backrest of around 45° to the vertical can be considered uncritical at this speed. At a speed of between 6 km / h and 30 km / h, the limit value for the inclination of the backrest can already be reduced, for example to an inclination of around 30° to the vertical. According to the invention, the first position limit values can also be determined continuously as a function of the vehicle speed, so that upon acceleration the safe range is continuously reduced at least over a speed range. It is preferred according to the invention that the maximum vehicle speed is limited by the control device as a function of the current seat position if the current seat position lies outside the safe range, for example by reducing the safe range due to acceleration of the motor vehicle and / or due to the lack of an approving input from the operator and / or due to an adjustment of the seat caused by the user. This has the advantage that the safety of the vehicle's occupants is further improved using simple means and in a cost-effective manner.

[0025] In a particularly preferred embodiment of the invention, a method can be provided that, when the vehicle speed changes, the control device redetermines the first position limit values and compares the current seat position with the newly determined first position limit values, wherein the control device transmits a warning message to the operator if the current seat position exceeds at least one of the newly determined first position limit values. Various scenarios are thus conceivable. According to a first scenario, the seat is adjusted by the user to a seat position which, at the time of adjustment, was already outside the first safe range. As a result of the acceleration of the motor vehicle, the distance of the seat position from the first safe range has increased by reducing or shifting the first safe range.According to a second scenario, the seat position is initially in the safe zone and leaves the first safe zone due to the acceleration of the motor vehicle. The warning message can indicate this. In addition, the control device can limit the vehicle speed to prevent the seat position from becoming too far away from the first safe zone. Alternatively, the control device can automatically correct the seat position toward or into the first safe zone. This has the advantage of further improving the safety of the motor vehicle occupants using simple and cost-effective means.

[0026] Preferably, the control device transmits a confirmation request to the operator if the current seat position exceeds at least one of the newly determined first position limit values. The current seat position is maintained if the user responds to the confirmation request with an affirmative input, and the control device automatically adjusts the current seat position to a seat position within the newly determined first position limit values if the user does not provide an affirmative input. This applies, for example, to the second scenario described above. In this case, acceleration of the motor vehicle can also be considered a corresponding request to change the seat position from the first safe range beyond the limits of the first safe range.Preferably, the confirmation request is transmitted before leaving the first safe area to improve smooth operation of the motor vehicle. The confirmation request can be implemented as part of the warning message or as a separate message. In addition, the invention also provides for a limitation of the vehicle speed by the control device. This has the advantage of further improving the safety of the motor vehicle occupants using simple means and in a cost-effective manner.

[0027] According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, a method can be provided in which the control device determines second position limit values of the seat, within which the safety of the occupant corresponds to a predetermined second safety criterion, wherein the first position limit values lie within the second position limit values, wherein the control device transmits a warning message to the operator if the change request is intended to cause at least one second position limit value of the second position limit values to be exceeded, and wherein the control device blocks the adjustment of the seat position beyond the second position limit values. The second safety criterion is stricter than the first safety criterion. The first safety criterion can, for example, be aimed at predefined, vehicle-specific occupant protection, while the second safety criterion is aimed at strict compliance with legal requirements and is thus intended to exclude seating positions that should not be assumed under any circumstances at a certain vehicle speed. This defines a second safety zone that also extends beyond the first safety zone. To better prevent the vehicle from leaving the second safety zone, the control device can additionally provide for an automatic limitation of the vehicle speed and / or an automatic adjustment of the seating position toward the first safety zone. The warning message primarily serves to inform the occupants and preferably does not offer the occupant the opportunity to adjust their seating position beyond the boundary of the second safe zone by making a statement. This has the advantage of further improving the safety of the vehicle's occupants using simple and cost-effective means.

[0028] Particularly preferably, the second position limit values are determined as a function of a vehicle speed of the motor vehicle, wherein the second position limit values are redetermined by the control device when the vehicle speed changes and are compared with the current seat position, wherein the control device automatically effects an adjustment of the current seat position to a seat position within the newly determined second position limit values if the current seat position exceeds at least one newly determined second position limit value of the newly determined second position limit values. If the motor vehicle is accelerated in such a way that the current seat position would lie outside the second safe range, the seat position is preferably adjusted in a timely manner, i.e. within a predetermined tolerance, towards the first safe range, thereby reducing the risk of leaving the second safe range. At the same time, the control device can reduce the maximum vehicle speed. Preferably, a warning is sent to the occupant before this adjustment. This has the advantage of further improving the safety of the vehicle's occupants using simple and cost-effective means.

[0029] According to a second aspect of the invention, the object is achieved by a seating system for a motor vehicle. The seating system comprises a seat, a seat adjustment actuator for adjusting a seating position of the seat, and a control device for controlling the seat adjustment actuator. According to the invention, the seating system is designed to carry out a method according to the invention. The seat is preferably designed as a seat for a row of seats behind the driver of the motor vehicle. Alternatively, the seat can also be designed as a seat for a passenger sitting next to the driver. According to the invention, the seating system can have multiple seats.Preferably, the seat system comprises a plurality of seat adjustment actuators for adjusting various seat parameters of the seat, such as an inclination of a seat surface of the seat, an inclination of a backrest of the seat, a seat position along a direction of travel of the motor vehicle, a seat position in the vertical direction, or the like.

[0030] The seating system according to the invention provides all the advantages already described for a method for operating a seating system for a motor vehicle according to the first aspect of the invention. Accordingly, the seating system according to the invention has the advantage over conventional seating systems that it improves the avoidance of a potentially dangerous seating position for the occupant using simple means and in a cost-effective manner. At the same time, the occupant is given the option of deliberately accepting a loss of personal safety and adopting a potentially unsafe seating position.

[0031] According to a third aspect of the invention, the object is achieved by a motor vehicle. According to the invention, the motor vehicle has a seating system according to the invention. Preferably, the control device of the seating system is designed to intervene in the control of the motor vehicle in such a way that a vehicle speed of the motor vehicle can be manipulated, for example, limited and / or reduced, by the control device. The motor vehicle according to the invention provides all the advantages that have already been described for a method for operating a seating system for a motor vehicle according to the first aspect of the invention and for a seating system for a motor vehicle according to the second aspect of the invention.Accordingly, the motor vehicle according to the invention has the advantage over conventional motor vehicles that it can be used to avoid a potentially dangerous seating position for the occupant using simple and cost-effective means. At the same time, the occupant is given the option of deliberately accepting a loss of personal safety and adopting a potentially unsafe seating position.

[0032] A method according to the invention for operating a seat system for a motor vehicle, a seat system according to the invention for a motor vehicle, and a motor vehicle according to the invention are explained in more detail below with reference to the drawings. They each schematically show: Figure 1 shows a first example of a confirmation request that can be transmitted during the implementation of the method according to the invention,

[0033] Figure 2 shows a second example of a confirmation request that can be transmitted during the implementation of the method according to the invention,

[0034] Figure 3 shows a side view of a preferred embodiment of a motor vehicle according to the invention, and

[0035] Figure 4 shows a flow chart of a preferred embodiment of a method according to the invention.

[0036] Elements with the same function and mode of operation are provided with the same reference numerals in Figures 1 to 4.

[0037] Fig. 1 schematically illustrates a first example of a confirmation request 5 that can be transmitted during implementation of the method according to the invention. The confirmation request 5 shown can, for example, be transmitted to an occupant or operator of a seat 3 (see Fig. 3) of a motor vehicle 2 (see Fig. 3) if a change request transmitted by the occupant or operator to change a seat position of the seat 3 is intended to cause at least one first position limit value from certain first position limit values to be exceeded. The confirmation request 5 has a warning message 7 and a first input field 8 for transmitting an input contradicting the confirmation request 5 and a second input field 9 for transmitting an input by the occupant or user that agrees with the confirmation request 5.

[0038] Fig. 2 schematically shows a second example of a confirmation request 5 that can be transmitted during the implementation of the method according to the invention. The confirmation request 5 shown can, for example, be transmitted to an occupant or operator of the seat 3 if a change request transmitted by the occupant or operator to change the seat position of the seat 3 is intended to cause at least one second position limit value from certain second position limit values to be exceeded. The confirmation request 5 has a warning message 7 and a third input field 10 for transmitting an input by the occupant or user that agrees to the confirmation request 5.

[0039] Fig. 3 shows a schematic side view of a preferred embodiment of a motor vehicle 2 according to the invention. The motor vehicle 2 has a seating system 1 according to the invention, which in this exemplary embodiment only relates to a second row of seats of the motor vehicle 2. The seating system 1 has a seat 3 with a backrest 11 and a seat surface 12, the seating positions of which can be adjusted via a plurality of seat adjustment actuators 6. The seat adjustment actuators 6 can be controlled via a control device 4 of the seating system 1. The seating system 1 has a touchscreen 13 for entering a desired change to the seating position of the backrest 11 and the seat surface 12 and for displaying the confirmation request 5 and the warning message 7. The seating system 1 has a detection device 14 for determining the position of an occupant sitting on the seat 3.

[0040] Fig. 4 shows a preferred embodiment of a method according to the invention schematically in a flowchart. In a first method action 100, the control device 4 detects the seat position of a seat 3 of the seating system 1 occupied by an occupant of the motor vehicle 2, for example using one or more, preferably differently designed, detection devices 14. In a second method action 200, the control device 4 determines the first position limit values of the seat 3. The first position limit values define a first safe range of the seating positions of the seat 3, within which the safety of the occupant corresponds to a predetermined first safety criterion. Adjusting the seating position within the first safe range is therefore possible without any problems.

[0041] In a third method action 300, the control device 4 detects a change request to change the seating position of the seat 3, which change request was transmitted by an operator of the seating system 1 or a passenger of the motor vehicle 2, in particular the passenger sitting on the seat 3 to be adjusted. The change request is preferably transmitted to the control device 4 via a user interface of the seating system 1, such as a touchscreen 13. In a fourth method action 400, the control device 4 determines that the change request is intended to cause at least one first position limit value of the first position limit values to be exceeded and controls the seat adjustment actuators 6 such that the first position limit values are not exceeded. In a fifth method action 500, the control device 4 transmits a confirmation request 5 to the operator orOccupants, which preferably includes a warning message 7 indicating that the change request is intended to cause at least one of the first position limit values to be exceeded. In a sixth method action 600, the control device 4 determines that the user or the occupant has responded to the confirmation request 5 by providing an affirmative input and controls at least one of the seat adjustment actuators 6 to adjust the seat position from the first safe range. In this case, the change request is preferably controlled, at least until another criterion preventing the control of the change request occurs, such as a legal prohibition.
