AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing Coriolis mass flow meters are unsuitable for high-pressure fluid measurements, particularly for low-density fluids, due to limitations in pipe diameter, pressure resistance, and accuracy, leading to inefficiencies and inaccuracies in mass flow measurement.

Method used

The development of a transducer for a mass flow meter that includes a tubular housing with a flexible plate capable of torsional vibration, embedded with magnetic or magnetizable material, and an electrically conducting material providing a main current path, allowing for effective electromagnetic actuation and pick-up functionality even in high-pressure applications.

Benefits of technology

The transducer enables accurate and efficient mass flow measurements in high-pressure pipelines by providing a strong outer tube structure and efficient electromagnetic actuation, overcoming the limitations of traditional Coriolis flow meters.

Abstract

A transducer for a mass flow meter, where the mass flow meter is arranged inside an outer tube working as a pressure containing part for the mass flow meter. The mass flow meter has a tubular housing. At least one flexible plate able to vibrate in 5 torsion, the flexible plate provided with a magnetic or magnetizable material. An electrically conducting material is embedded in the tubular housing or embedded in the outer tube. The electrically conducting material provides a main current path of the transducer, wherein current in the main current path inducing at least one torque in the flexible plate via the magnetic or magnetizable material. 10 Vibrations of the flexible plate induce current in the main current path via the magnetic or magnetizable material, the transducer functioning as a pick-up for the mass flow meter. 2 15
