Abstract

Disclosed is an adaptive eyewear device (100) for reducing eye strain, the adaptive eyewear device comprising: an eye-tracking sensor (102A, 102B) operable to monitor the user’s gaze and measure a focus distance; a variable-focus lens (110A, 110B) operable to adjust diopter power based on the measured focus distance; a timer (112) operable to track a cumulative duration for which the focus distance remains within a predefined near-work distance range during a predefined time period; and a controller (114) operatively connected to the eye-tracking sensor, the variable-focus lens, and the timer, wherein the controller is operable to: increase the diopter power of the variable-focus lens when the measured focus distance remains within the predefined near-work distance range for at least the predefined time period and decrease the diopter power of the variable-focus lens when the measured focus distance exceeds the predefined near-work distance range or when near work ceases.
