AI Technical Summary
Current treatments for trichotillomania and dermatillomania, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy and drug treatments, are either time-consuming, invasive, or have limited effectiveness in inhibiting repetitive behaviors driven by tactile sensitivity.
A tactile inhibition film device is applied to the fingers, featuring a dermatological film with a rounded end area and flaps that adhere to the finger, altering tactile sensation and preventing the excitement that triggers repetitive behaviors.
The film device effectively inhibits discriminative tactile sensitivity, breaking the addictive loop of repetitive behaviors by reducing the satisfaction derived from these actions, thus aiding in the reversal of harmful habits without significant effort or social disruption.

Abstract
Description
Title of the invention: TOUCH INHIBITING FILM DEVICE
[0001] The invention relates to the field of general medicine, pediatrics, dermatology, child psychiatry and adult psychiatry and more particularly concerns a tactile inhibition film device intended to reduce, or even inhibit, repetitive behaviors centered on the body such as the pathological excitation of the fine discriminative or epicritical sensitivity of the fingertips.
[0002] The invention is in fact intended to reduce or inhibit excessive excitement appearing in mental behavioral disorders such as trichotillomania and dermatillomania.
[0003] Discriminative or epicritical sensitivity relates to fine tactile sensitivity allowing discrimination between several qualities of stimulation (touching, continuous pressure, vibration, pricking, movement of hairs, for example).
[0004] Pathological excitation of the fine discriminative or epicritical sensitivity of the fingertips is involved in the first stage of the addictive circuit of seeking immediate pleasure in the manifestations of mental pathologies such as the aforementioned trichotillomania and dermatillomania.
[0005] Patients often feel the need to meticulously search for a particular type of hair to remove in trichotillomania or a skin relief to excoriate in dermatillomania.
[0006] This automatic, and sometimes unconscious, meticulous research is done by exciting the tactile discrimination of the fingertips in search of tactile particularities of the hair manipulated by the fingertips (or of the skin relief for dermatillomania).
[0007] The tactile excitement caused by the discovery of the target hair or the particular skin relief provides the beginnings of exciting satisfaction leading to pathological behavior which is irrepressible, namely hair pulling or skin excoriation, equivalent to the enjoyment of an excitement which is satisfied.
[0008] This enjoyment is a source of full satisfaction that is very immediate and very short-lived.
[0009] Also, although trichotillomania and dermatillomania are classified among obsessive and compulsive disorders (OCD), the absence of anxious struggle preceding the act and the enjoyment experienced by the act are elements also considered in favor of an impulsive functioning of the addictive type.
[0010] These pathologies result in dermatological disorders which can be very physically disabling and debilitating such as lesions, oozing or infections, for example. The disorders caused are also very socially disabling such as alopecia, disgrace, sores or scabs, for example, leading to shame and social exclusion.
[0011] Cognitive behavioral therapy gives results that are considered quite good, but requires a lot of investment in time and professional support as a cure, and this is also true as a preventative one. In practice, these cognitive behavioral therapies are not implemented so often because of the high investment in the difficult relearning they require.
[0012] Cognitive behavioral therapies also have known solutions such as wearing gloves, or applying adhesive tape or a common bandage to the fingers, in order to prevent the catching of hair or skin scabs.
[0013] However, these means can be useful but are not easy or practical to put in place on a daily basis. They are also not very discreet and unsightly, preventing a normal social life. Most dressings are coarse, visible, unsightly, and prevent biometric recognition.
[0014] It is possible to apply drug treatments but they have relative effectiveness and are often linked to the associated pathologies of anxiety and depression. It is then often necessary to use serotonin reuptake inhibitors or clomipramine or finally certain neuroleptics such as olanzapine in parallel.
[0015] Also, current drug treatments for trichotillomania and derma-tillomania are only partially satisfactory in cases of associated anxiety-depressive disorders.
[0016] Since body-centered repetitive behavior is most often automated by an autonomous addictive satisfaction circuit, treatment of the associated anxiety-depressive disorder is not sufficient to stop it.
[0017] The aim of the invention is therefore to overcome the drawbacks of the prior art by proposing a tactile inhibition film device inhibiting the fine discriminative and epicritical tactile sensitivity of the fingertips, making it impossible for excitation to emerge in the search for target hair or exciting skin relief.
[0018] To this end, the invention thus relates, in its broadest sense, to a tactile inhibition film device intended to be stuck to a finger of an individual comprising a pulp on an internal face of the finger and a nail on an external face of the finger.
[0019] According to the invention, the tactile inhibition film device comprises a dermatological film comprising an internal surface covered by an adhesive, a base and a central part comprising a rounded end zone and extending along a axial direction from the base. The inner surface is intended to be glued to the fingertip. The base is extended by two opposing flaps, a first flap and a second flap, extending perpendicular to the axial direction. Each flap is connected to the rounded end area by a curved portion, each comprising a curved edge. The flaps are intended to be folded down and glued around the finger, on a portion of skin extending to the nail, so as to allow the curved edges to run along the nail.
[0020] The invention thus provides a tactile inhibition film device inhibiting the fine discriminative and epicritical tactile sensitivity of the fingertips, making it impossible for excitation to emerge in the search for target hair or exciting skin relief.
[0021] The touch-inhibiting film device is also useful for other excessive touch behaviors, such as searching for threads or pills to pull out of fabrics, for example.
[0022] The tactile inhibition film device operates by pure peripheral mechanical action. The tactile inhibition film device acts as a screen. It modifies the sensation of fingers sliding over the hair or skin. The individual does not feel full satisfaction in continuing to pull out his hair. He is therefore not excited by his gesture, which prevents the automatic actions of pulling out hair, for example, and therefore addiction.
[0023] The tactile inhibition film device thus improves habit reversal in behavioral therapy by preventing the initial excitation at the origin of the addictive loop.
[0024] It does not require any particular effort or is tedious, which makes it an easy-to-use and effective device for learning new habits.
[0025] The extinction of pathological poor learning is done passively and easily without effort.
[0026] Furthermore, the touch-inhibiting film device does not interfere with social functioning due to its discretion.
[0027] The tactile inhibition film device thus presents a medical but also cosmetic advantage. Its cosmetic virtue allows its popularization and publicity, and consequently the de-dramatization of these disorders. These illnesses are in fact very badly experienced, in a shameful way and are sometimes even hidden from doctors.
[0028] According to a variant, the central part and the base of the tactile inhibition film device are preformed so as to be curved to match the shape of the fingertip.
[0029] This curved shape makes it possible to improve the adhesion of the tactile inhibition film device to the fingertip.
[0030] According to another variant, the first flap comprises a first lateral end. The second flap comprises a second lateral end. The first and second lateral ends are intended to join to form a junction on the external face of the finger, the junction extending from the nail, towards a direction opposite the nail.
[0031] The entire distal phalanx of the finger is thus entirely covered by the tactile inhibition film device, ensuring excellent adhesion and reducing areas, at the interface of the skin and the tactile inhibition film device, which are prone to detachment by friction against objects or by water.
[0032] According to another variant, the touch-inhibiting film device comprises at least one protective layer, including a first protective layer bonded to a first edge of the base of the dermatological film. The first protective layer comprises a first front portion bonded to a first external surface of the dermatological film and a first rear portion projecting from the first edge so as to be able to stick to the finger.
[0033] According to another variant, the touch-inhibiting film device comprises a second protective layer bonded to a second edge of the first protective layer. The second protective layer comprises a second front portion bonded to a second external face of the first protective layer and a second rear portion protruding from the second edge so as to be able to stick the finger.
[0034] According to another variant, the touch-inhibiting film device comprises a third protective layer bonded to a third edge of the second protective layer. The third protective layer comprises a third front portion bonded to a third external face of the second protective layer and a third rear portion protruding from the third edge so as to be able to stick the finger.
[0035] The protective layers include edges to reduce wear of the interface (or junction) between the touch-inhibiting film device and the skin, located on the proximal underside of the pulp, caused by hand washing with water and friction. The protective layers protect the edge of the touch-inhibiting film device.
[0036] In fact, the protective layers detach one after the other as their adhesion disappears during the day due to water or friction. The underlying border left in place, not having been attacked by water or friction, remains strongly adhered to the skin. It is the protective layers furthest from the dermatological film which detach first.
[0037] According to another variant, the protective layers are formed from the same material than that of the dermatological film.
[0038] According to another variant, the dermatological film and the protective layers are formed from a transparent polymer.
[0039] This makes the dermatological film more discreet.
[0040] According to another variant, the glue is a skin glue.
[0041] The skin glue that is traditionally used to reattach wounds is very adherent, preventing the dermatological film from peeling off.
[0042] According to another variant, the dermatological film has a thickness of 20 to 300 μm.
[0043] The touch-inhibiting film device does not hinder the possibility of using biometric identification means by fingerprint recognition and does not prevent the reading of braille.
[0044] Embodiments of the present invention will be described below, by way of non-limiting examples, with reference to the appended figures in which:
[0045] [Fig-1] schematically illustrates a view of the internal surface of a film device with tactile inhibition, according to one embodiment of the invention;
[0046] [Fig.2] schematically illustrates a view of the external surface of a film device with tactile inhibition, according to another embodiment of the invention;
[0047] [Fig.3] schematically illustrates a top view of the inhibition film device touchscreen of [Fig.2] stuck on a finger;
[0048] [Fig.4] schematically illustrates a bottom view of the inhibition film device touchscreen of [Fig.2] stuck on a finger;
[0049] [Fig.5] schematically illustrates a view of the internal surface of a film device with tactile inhibition, according to another embodiment of the invention.
[0050] [Fig.l] illustrates a tactile inhibition film device 1 intended to be stuck on a finger 3 of an individual comprising a pulp 2 on an internal face 40 of the finger 3 and a nail 28 on an external face 14 of the finger 3.
[0051] The tactile inhibition film device 1 comprises a dermatological film 4 comprising a central part 5 having a base 6 and a rounded end zone 7 extending in an axial direction A from the base 6. The rounded end zone 7 is intended to be stuck to the pulp 2 of the finger 3.
[0052] The term “dermatological film” means a film which is compatible with human skin and does not cause allergies or irritations.
[0053] When the touch-inhibiting film device 1 is adhered to the finger 3, the axial direction A corresponds to the general direction of the finger 3, as illustrated in [Fig.3].
[0054] The rounded end zone 7 has a tongue shape. The rounded end zone 7 has a radius of curvature adapted to allow the rounded end zone 7 to cover the entire pulp 2 of the finger 3. The finger 3 may be the thumb, the index finger, middle finger, ring finger or little finger.
[0055] The rounded end zone 7 and the central part 5 extend along a central axis B parallel to the axial direction A.
[0056] Each finger 3 of a single hand may comprise a touch-inhibiting film device 1.
[0057] Alternatively, each finger 3 of both hands may comprise a touch-inhibiting film device 1.
[0058] Preferably, on a hand, only a few fingers 3 comprise a touch-inhibiting film device 1, such as the thumb, index finger and middle finger, for example.
[0059] Three sizes of touch-inhibiting film device 1 are possible, including a small, a medium, and a large size. For example, a large touch-inhibiting film device 1 is adhered to the thumb. A medium-sized touch-inhibiting film device 1 is adhered to the middle finger, and a smaller touch-inhibiting film device 1 is adhered to the index finger.
[0060] The base 6 comprises a first edge 23 which is substantially rectilinear and which extends perpendicularly relative to the central axis B.
[0061] The base 6 is extended by two opposite flaps 8, 9, including a first flap 8 and a second flap 9, extending laterally, that is to say perpendicularly to the central axis B.
[0062] The central part 5 and the rounded end zone 7 are centered relative to the two flaps 8, 9 which are symmetrical relative to the central axis B. The two flaps 8, 9 are identical and have the same dimensions.
[0063] In this example, the tactile inhibition film 1 is flat before being stuck to the finger 3.
[0064] Alternatively, the first flap 8 may be shorter than the second flap 9.
[0065] The first flap 8 is connected to the rounded end zone 7 by a first curved portion 10 comprising a first curved edge 12 and by a second curved portion 11 comprising a second curved edge 13.
[0066] The flaps 8, 9 are intended to be folded around the finger 3 and so as to allow the first and second curved edges 12, 13 to stick to the external face 14 of the finger 3. The first and second curved edges 12, 13 are stuck to a portion of skin 36 extending to the nail 28, along the nail 28 and without touching the nail 28.
[0067] The shape of the flaps 8, 9 and the curved parts 10, 11 is adapted so that almost all, or even all, of the skin 36 at the end of the finger 3 is covered by the tactile inhibition film device 1. In other words, the distal phalanx of the finger 3 is covered by the tactile inhibition film device 1, except at the level of the nail 28.
[0068] The boundary between the nail 28 and the skin 36 forms an interface 37 on the external face 14 of the finger 3. The curved edges 12, 13 run along the interface 37.
[0069] The curved edges 12, 13 can touch the nail 28.
[0070] Alternatively, a space 38 is provided between the interface 37 and the first and second curved edges 12, 13.
[0071] The rounded end zone 7 comprises a rounded edge 39 which runs along the nail 28, on the internal face 40 of the finger 3.
[0072] For example, the base 6 and the flaps 8, 9 may have a width 1 which corresponds to approximately half the height H of the dermatological film 4. The rounded end zone 7 has a height hl which is between a quarter and half the height H of the dermatological film 4. The rounded end zone 7 also has a length LL
[0073] The length L2 of the base 6 may correspond to more than twice the length L1 of the rounded end zone 7.
[0074] The first flap 8 comprises a first lateral end 15 and the second flap 9 comprises a second lateral end 16.
[0075] The first lateral end 15 and the second lateral end 16 have a rectilinear edge and are perpendicular to the first edge 23 of the base 6.
[0076] The first curved edge 12 of the first curved portion 10 connects the first lateral end 15 to the rounded end area 7, and the second curved edge 13 of the second curved portion 11 connects the second lateral end 16 to the rounded end area 7.
[0077] When the touch-inhibiting film device 1 is adhered to the finger 3, the first and second lateral ends 15, 16 join together so as to be positioned opposite each other to form a junction 17 on the outer face 14 of the finger 3, as illustrated in [Fig.3].
[0078] The junction 17 extends from the vicinity of the nail 28, and more precisely from an internal end 29 of the nail 28, towards a direction opposite to the nail 28, following the axial direction A, parallel to the general direction of the finger 3.
[0079] The first and second lateral ends 15, 16 may touch each other or be separated by a distance of at least 0.5 mm.
[0080] Alternatively, the first and second lateral ends 15, 16 may overlap.
[0081] The dermatological film 4 has a thickness of 20 to 300 qm, preferably of 25 to 150 qm and most preferably of 30 to 100 qm and even more preferably of 50 to 80 qm.
[0082] This thin thickness allows the patient using the dermatological film 4 to use biometric sensors.
[0083] The dermatological film 4 has a substantially uniform thickness.
[0084] The dermatological film 4 is highly flexible or deformable, waterproof or substantially impervious to bodily fluids, but breathable.
[0085] The dermatological film 4 is formed so as to fit the contours of the nail 28 and is very light.
[0086] For example, the dermatological film 4 may be a film of the Blenderm© transparent occlusive adhesive tape type.
[0087] The dermatological film 4 may be made of polyethylene which is waterproof, airtight and dirt-proof.
[0088] The dermatological film 4 is a substantially waterproof film which protects the adhesive from any alteration when the user is bathing or in the event of accidental wetting of the finger 3 and in particular when the adhesive absorbs water.
[0089] However, the dermatological film 4 is vapor permeable.
[0090] The dermatological film 4 can be any known film such as for example a polyurethane, polyethylene, polyester or polyamide film.
[0091] The dermatological film 4 is formed from a polymer.
[0092] The dermatological film 4 may be transparent, translucent, opaque or non-transparent, depending on the intended use. In order to visually blend into the skin and become invisible, it is preferable for the dermatological film 4 to have a reflectance close to that of the skin. Preferably, the reflectance is less than 5.
[0093] The dermatological film 4 can also be colored. The dermatological film 4 can have a flesh color with different shades up to brown.
[0094] The dermatological film 4 comprises an internal surface 18 covered totally or partially by a glue or an adhesive.
[0095] The adhesive can be made of polyacrylate tolerated by sensitive skin.
[0096] The glue may be a skin glue for resealing wounds comprising the compound 2-octyl cyanoacrylate, such as Derma+Flex QS© glue, for example.
[0097] According to a possible embodiment, the glue or adhesive comprises a mixture of at least three basic ingredients, namely the hydrophobic unsaturated aliphatic homopolymer, a compatible tackifier and at least one hydrocolloid absorbent.
[0098] This mixture of ingredients is exposed to a dose of ionizing radiation which chemically crosslinks the hydrophobic unsaturated aliphatic homopolymer component, thereby producing a high integrity adhesive layer.
[0099] Preferably, the hydrophobic unsaturated aliphatic homopolymer comprises an elastomeric homopolymer.
[0100] Non-limiting examples of suitable elastomeric homopolymers include polyisoprene, polybutadiene and combinations thereof, with polyisoprene being particularly preferred.
[0101] Polyisoprene is commercially available from several sources, including Goodan Chemical Co., Akron, Ohio, under the trademark NATSYNTM, including Natsyn resins No. 2200, 2205 and 2210.
[0102] The compatible tackifier may include an elastomeric tackifier, such as polyisobutylene, or a non-elastomeric tackifier, including synthetic polyterpene tackifiers, such as WINGTACKTM brand tackifiers (e.g., Wingttack 10, Wingttack 86, Wingttack 95, Wingttack Plus, and Wingttack Extra) available from Goodan Chemical Co., Akron, Ohio, or a combination of elastomeric and non-elastomeric tackifiers.
[0103] As used herein, a "compatible tackifier" refers to a tackifier that is miscible with the hydrophobic unsaturated aliphatic homopolymer, such that when these components are mixed, they form a homogeneous phase.
[0104] In some embodiments, the hydrocolloid absorbent comprises synthetic polymers prepared from single or multiple monomers, natural hydrophilic polymers, or chemically modified natural hydrophilic polymers.
[0105] Hydrocolloid polymers can be linear or crosslinked.
[0106] This includes natural or chemically modified polymers such as cellulosic materials, chitosan, pectin, guar gum, starches or dextrins, collagens and gelatin and synthetic polymers such as polyacrylic acid, polyvinyl alcohol / acetate, polyhydroxyalkyl acrylates and methacrylates, polyacrylic amides, polystyrene sulfonates, polyvinylpyrrolidone, polyglycols, copolymers, grafts thereof, copolymers or compositions thereof.
[0107] The dermatological film 4 may optionally include minor amounts of other ingredients such as antioxidants, deodorants, perfumes, antimicrobials and other pharmacologically active agents as is well known in the art.
[0108] In addition, additional elastomers, including polypropylene-polyethylene copolymers such as EPSYNTM resins available from Copolymer Rubber and Chemical Corp., Baton Rouge, La., may also be included in the compositions of the present invention.
[0109] According to a variant, the touch-inhibiting film device 1 comprises at least one protective layer 20, 21, 22 including a first protective layer 20 bonded to a first edge 23 of the base 6 of the dermatological film 4, as illustrated in [Fig. 2]. The first protective layer 20 comprises a first front portion 30 which is bonded to a first external surface 19 of the dermatological film 4 and a first rear portion 31 which protrudes from the first edge 23 so as to be able to stick on finger 3, as shown in figures 3 and 4.
[0110] The first protective layer 20 is offset relative to the first edge 23 towards a direction opposite to the rounded end zone 7 of the central part 5.
[0111] The touch-inhibiting film device 1 comprises a second protective layer 21 glued to a second edge 24 of the first protective layer 20. The second protective layer 21 comprises a second front portion 32 glued to a second external face 26 of the first protective layer 20 and a second rear portion 33 protruding from the second edge 24 so as to be able to stick the finger 3.
[0112] The second protective layer 21 is offset relative to the second edge 24 of the first protective layer 20 towards a direction opposite to the rounded end zone 7 of the central part 5.
[0113] The touch-inhibiting film device 1 comprises a third protective layer 22 glued to a third edge 25 of the second protective layer 21. The third protective layer 22 comprises a third front portion 34 glued to a third external face 27 of the second protective layer 21 and a third rear portion 35 protruding from the third edge 25 so as to be able to stick the finger 3.
[0114] The third protective layer 22 is offset relative to the third edge 25 of the second protective layer 21 towards a direction opposite to the rounded end zone 7 of the central part 5.
[0115] The protective layers 20, 21, 22 are thus offset relative to each other in the axial direction A so as to each be bonded to one of the protective layers 20, 21, 22 which precedes it and also to the finger 3.
[0116] The protective layers 20, 21, 22 are formed from the same material as that of the dermatological film 4 and are glued together and onto the finger 3 with the same glue as that which covers the internal surface 18 of the dermatological film 4.
[0117] According to a variant, shown in [Fig.2], the protective layers 20, 21, 22 do not all have the same lengths.
[0118] The first protective layer 20 is longer than the second protective layer 21 which is longer than the third protective layer 22.
[0119] Preferably, the three protective layers 20, 21, 22 have the same length and the same width.
[0120] Preferably, the three protective layers 20, 21, 22 extend over the entire length of the base 6.
[0121] The touch-inhibiting film device 1 may comprise a single protective layer 20, 21, 22, two protective layers 20, 21, 22, three protective layers 20, 21, 22 or more.
[0122] As a variant (not illustrated), the first external surface 19 of the dermatological film 4 comprises at least one additional protective layer, similar to the protective layers 20, 21, 22, and covering the curved edges 12, 13 of the curved parts 10, 11 and the rounded edge 39 of the rounded end zone 7, extending beyond these edges 12, 13, 39 to stick to the skin 36, around the nail 28.
[0123] According to a preferred variant illustrated in [Fig.5], the central portion 105 and the base 106 of the tactile inhibition film device 100 are preformed so as to be curved to match the shape of the pulp of the finger 3, which increases the adhesion of the tactile inhibition film device 100 to the finger 3. The central portion 105 and the base 106 form a shell.
[0124] All the features and combinations described for the embodiments of Figures 1 to 4 apply to the embodiment of [Fig.5], in which the central portion 105 and the base 106 of the touch-inhibiting film device 100 are curved before being glued to the finger 3, unlike the embodiments of Figures 1 to 4 in which the touch-inhibiting film device 1 has a flat shape before being glued to the finger 3.
[0125] The central part 105 comprises a rounded end zone 107 which is curved and which extends in an axial direction A from the base 106. The rounded end zone 107 is intended to be glued to the pulp 2 of the finger 3.
[0126] The base 106 comprises a first edge 123 and is extended by two opposite flaps 108, 109, extending laterally, that is to say perpendicularly to the axial direction A and therefore to the central part 105.
[0127] Each flap 108, 109 is connected to the rounded end area 107 by a curved portion 110, 111 comprising a curved rim 112, 113.
[0128] The touch-inhibiting film device 100 may comprise at least one protective layer like that described previously, bonded to the first edge 123 of the base 106.
[0129] The touch-inhibiting film device 100 also includes an inner surface 118 covered with an adhesive, such as that described previously.
