Abstract

The present invention relates to a method for quantifying displacements in an analog model representing the evolution of deformation of an underground formation over geological time. The method comprises at least the following steps: (a) constructing the analog model at an initial time by superimposing a succession of layers in a deformation box, at least one of the layers comprising a plurality of X-ray detectable markers; (b) applying boundary conditions to the analog model constructed at the initial time, and simultaneously acquiring a succession of three-dimensional images between the initial time and a final time using X-ray imaging; (c) for each pair of consecutive three-dimensional images, applying an optical flow method and determining a displacement field for each pair of three-dimensional images.
