Abstract
Description
Title of the invention: Air filtration device technical field
[0001] The present invention relates to the field of carbon odor filters for treating air circulating in pipes. It relates in particular to the field of treating unpressurized air coming from the vent of septic tanks or toilets. Its application is particularly advantageous in the field of air treatment by positioning odor filters on existing pipes. STATE OF THE ART
[0002] The installation or replacement of an odor filter is typically carried out according to two options.
[0003] One option is to place the carbon filter inside an air duct at the end of the pipe. Once the filter is housed inside the end of the pipe, it is sealed using adhesive tape placed at the interface between the filter and the pipe. The end of the pipe is located outside the building, most often on the roof. The filter is then covered with a cap. A major drawback of this solution is that installing the filter requires access to the roof of the building, which makes it complex and creates significant fall risks for the installer.
[0004] To avoid these installations in hazardous areas, another option is to install the filter within the pipe. To do this, the pipe is cut inside the building to create a passage for the filter. The filter is positioned in this passage and then held in place with adhesive tape. The adhesive tape also serves to ensure an airtight seal between the filter and the pipe.
[0005] These two solutions do not prove satisfactory in terms of reliability over time.
[0006] An object of the present invention is therefore to propose a device which makes it possible to overcome at least in part the aforementioned disadvantages.
[0007] The other objects, features and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from an examination of the following description and accompanying drawings. It is understood that other advantages may be incorporated. SUMMARY
[0008] To achieve this objective, according to one embodiment, an air filtration device is provided comprising a carbon filter having a body configured to house carbon, the body having a first transverse plane of symmetry and including: - a central portion and - a first cooperation portion and a second cooperation portion, each extending from the central portion to respectively a first distal end of the filter and a second distal end of the filter, the first cooperation portion and the second cooperation portion having respectively a first external surface facing outwards from the filter and a first additional external surface facing outwards from the filter, each intended to be fitted onto a tubular surface, the first external surface and the first additional external surface having rotational symmetry about a first longitudinal axis of the filter, the first external surface and the first additional external surface having: • respectively a first section and a second section extending respectively from the end of the first cooperation portion and the second cooperation portion towards the first transverse plane of symmetry, the first section and the second section being frustoconical and flaring respectively from a first distal end and a second distal end where they have a diameter D6min to respectively a first proximal end and a first proximal end where they have a diameter D6max, • respectively a third section and a fourth section extending respectively from the first section and the second section towards the first transverse plane of symmetry, the third section and the fourth section being frustoconical and flaring respectively from a third distal end and a fourth distal end where they have a diameter D7min to respectively a third proximal end and a fourth proximal end where they have a diameter D7max, with D7max>D7min>D6max>D6min, the diameters being measured perpendicular to the first longitudinal axis.
[0009] Thus, the filter body is configured so that the first section (or the second section) and the third section (or the fourth section) each cooperate by branching, preferably by manual fitting, with another piping element such as a pipe, a sleeve or a pipe cap.
[0010] It is thus possible to bring onto this filter a tubular object having a diameter compatible with the first section (or the second section) or with the third section (or the fourth section).
[0011] The frustoconical shape of each of these sections makes it possible to obtain an airtight connection regardless of the diameter of the tubular object, as long as this diameter is between D6min + 0.5 mm and D6max or between D7min + 0.5 mm and D7max (the difference between D6min and D6max being 1.08 mm and the difference between D7min and D7max being 1.2 mm). Therefore, it is not necessary for the internal diameter of the tubular object to be controlled with high precision.
[0012] The achievement of a seal by insertion is thus carried out in a particularly easy and reliable manner.
[0013] In PVC pipes, the internal diameters of the tubes, sleeves, or caps are generally poorly controlled. Dimensional discrepancies of more than 1 millimeter are regularly observed for 100 or 110 millimeter tubes. This generally leads to unreliable airtightness or the need to apply adhesive tape to reinforce the seal, a tedious process for the installer and often not very durable over time.
[0014] The proposed system allows for sealing that is easily achieved, and provides high and stable performance over time.
[0015] Another aspect relates to an air filtration device comprising a first sleeve configured to be fitted by friction onto the filter, preferably by manual fitting, the first sleeve having a second longitudinal axis of symmetry, a second external surface and an internal surface, the internal surface having: - a first portion configured to fit onto one of the first cooperation portion and the second cooperation portion, - a second portion configured to fit onto a tubular object taken from a first connecting tube or a pipe cap.
[0016] The sleeve and the filter are shaped so that when they are fitted together by friction, they are fixed. They cannot separate under their own weight. Indeed, when the sleeve is fixed to one side of a filter and to the other side of a connecting tube (as in Figures 6 and 8), and the entire filtration system is positioned vertically, the weight and geometry of the sleeve are configured so that it does not separate from the filter (as in Figures 6 and 8) or from the connecting tube (as in [Fig. 8]), and the connecting tube does not separate from the sleeve (as in Figures 6 and 8). Similarly, the weight and geometry of the filter are configured so that it does not separate from the sleeve (as in [Fig. 8]).
[0017] Another aspect relates to a method for installing an air filtration device within a duct, the method comprising the following steps: • Removal of a section of existing pipe, preferably by cutting the existing pipe, so as to define within the pipe: i. an open section defining a passage in the conduit, the existing conduit having a principal direction of extension at the level of the open section, ii. a first connecting tube and a second connecting tube, delimiting the open portion, • bringing the first sleeve into the open section, the bringing being preferably carried out by a movement comprising a displacement of the first sleeve along a direction transverse to the main direction of extension of the existing pipeline, • fitting the first sleeve onto an external face of the first connecting pipe, the fitting comprising a displacement of the first sleeve along the main direction of extension of the existing pipe and in a first direction, • bringing the filter into the open section, the introduction preferably being achieved by a movement including a displacement of the filter along a direction transverse to the main direction of extension of the existing pipe, • putting the first sleeve into cooperation with the filter to fit the first sleeve onto the filter by friction, the putting into cooperation preferably being carried out by a movement comprising a displacement of the first sleeve along the main direction of extension of the existing pipe and along a second direction opposite to the first direction.
[0018] Thanks to this method, fixing the filter and the first sleeve onto the connecting tube is particularly easy.
[0019] Another aspect concerns an installation method further comprising: - before the filter enters the open section: • bringing a second sleeve into the open section, the introduction preferably being carried out by a movement comprising a displacement of the sleeve along a direction transverse to the main direction of extension of the existing pipeline, • fitting the second sleeve onto an external face of the second connecting pipe, the fitting comprising a displacement of the second sleeve along the main direction of extension of the existing pipe and in a first direction, - after the filter has been brought into the open section: • Bringing the second sleeve into contact with the filter to fit the second sleeve onto the filter by friction, the joining preferably being achieved by a movement including a displacement of the second sleeve along the main direction of extension of the pipe existing and according to a second meaning opposite to the first meaning.
[0020] As illustrated in [Fig. 8], thanks to the configuration of the filtration device, an installation method can be developed to insert the filtration device into an air duct particularly easily using two sleeves. Indeed, the filtration device according to the invention, by positioning two sleeves on either side of the filter after the section of the air duct, can be easily and robustly inserted into an air duct. The cross-section of the connecting tube allows the filter and the two sleeves (between the two sides of the sectioned connecting tube) to be easily positioned by sliding them so that they can be fitted together and into the two sides of the connecting tube.
[0021] More specifically, the configuration of the filter and the sleeve, and more specifically their weight and geometry, are established so that, in a vertical position, the upper and lower sleeves do not separate from the connecting tube and the filter, respectively. Similarly, the filter (positioned between the two sleeves) is configured so that its geometry and weight are established in such a way as to eliminate any risk of separation between the filter and the sleeve.
[0022] This method, and more specifically the characteristics of the filtration device associated with this method, make it possible to avoid having an operator perform a maneuver on the roof of a house to position the filter at one end of the air duct. Thus, thanks to the possibility of inserting the filter within an air duct and therefore at a reasonable height, many risks are avoided. Indeed, in conventional installations, this end is most often accessible on a roof, which complicates the installation of the filter and naturally presents considerable safety risks for the installer.
[0023] Furthermore, even if a filter with a conventional geometry could be inserted into an air duct, it would be necessary to secure the filter to each side of the sectioned air duct using adhesive tape. Compared to the installation method of the filtration device according to the invention, the filter installation would then be cumbersome and its lifespan considerably limited. The installation method of the filtration device according to the invention provides an installation that is easy to set up, reliable, and robust over time.
[0024] Another aspect relates to the method of installing an air filtration device at one end of an air duct, the method of installing an air filtration device comprising the following steps: • deformation or partial removal, for example using sandpaper, of the first joint so that the diameter of the internal surface of the first sleeve, at the level of the first joint, is equal to the value of the diameter of the external surface of the first connecting tube, • Fitting the first sleeve onto the first connecting tube, • positioning the filter so that the first portion of cooperation either fitted by the first sleeve, • fitting the hat onto the second cooperation section.
[0025] The method developed for positioning the filtration device at the end of an air duct, i.e., on the roof of a house, has the technical effect of enabling a robust and easy-to-implement connection (as opposed to the method of attaching a filter to a sleeve or tube by means of adhesive tape). Indeed, due to the configuration (geometry and weight) of the filter and the sleeve, a robust and reliable connection (with no risk of separation) is obtained between the filter and the sleeve on one side and between the filter and the cap on the other.
[0026] The method for installing a filtration device at the end of an air duct includes a step of machining the sleeve joint to obtain an internal diameter of the sleeve equal to the external diameter of the connecting tube onto which the sleeve is fitted. This operation thus ensures a reliable connection between the different elements of the filtration device. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE FIGURES

[0040] Before beginning a detailed review of embodiments of the invention, optional features which may possibly be used in association or alternatively are stated below.
[0041] According to one example, the first external surface and the first additional external surface have a shoulder between the first and third section (and between the second and fourth section) so as to obtain D7min equal to: D6max + a value between 3 mm and 7 mm (103 meters).
[0042] This shoulder forms a break in slope. This shoulder forms a stop for a tubular object intended to be attached to the filter.
[0043] According to one example, the filter has a length LL. According to another example, the first segment has a length L6. According to another example, the second segment has a length L7. According to another example, the lengths L1, L6, and L7 are taken along the longitudinal axis, with L6 > 0.1 * L1, L7 > 0.1 * L1, and preferably L6 > 0.2 * LL.
[0044] According to an example, L6> 15 mm (102 meters), preferably L6> 20 mm (102 meters).
[0045] According to an example, L7> 7.5 mm (102 meters), preferably L7> 10 mm (102 meters).
[0046] According to an example, Ll> 45 mm (102 meters), preferably Ll> 60 mm (102 meters).
[0047] Thus, the first section, the second section, the third section and the fourth section have sufficient lengths to allow for fitting and sealing by fitting a tubular part onto their surface.
[0048] According to an example, L6> 1.2*L7 and preferably L6> 1.5*L7.
[0049] According to one example, the central portion has an external surface of which each point is located at a distance D5 from the longitudinal axis, such that D5>=D7max.
[0050] Thus, the central part protrudes beyond the third section (or the fourth section) in a radial direction relative to the extension axis of the first sleeve.
[0051] According to one example, the central portion may or may not be in the shape of revolution.
[0052] According to one example, the central part is provided with reliefs.
[0053] These raised areas are configured to facilitate friction between a user's hand and the filter. Typically, the raised areas do not have rotational symmetry about the longitudinal axis, in order to prevent the filter from slipping on a user's hand.
[0054] In one example, the first section, the second section, the third section, and the fourth section are smooth. In another example, the first section, the second section, the third section, and the fourth section are continuous. In another example, they are not perforated.
[0055] According to one example, the filter body has at each end a perforated wall blocking access to the inside of the filter body.
[0056] According to one example, the filter is configured to allow air to flow from one end of the filter body to the other end of the filter body. The body is tubular. Preferably, the air flows into the filter only through the perforated walls.
[0057] According to one example, at least one of the walls is removable.
[0058] Thus, it is possible to access the inside of the filter body, for example to change the carbon.
[0059] According to one example, the wall forms a grid.
[0060] The carbon is, for example, contained in a cartridge configured to be housed, preferably in a removable manner, inside the filter body. The filter is thus reusable and rechargeable by changing the carbon.
[0061] According to one example, the filter is an air filter. It is passive, in that it does not include any means of forced ventilation, such as a fan.
[0062] According to one example, the filter body is made of PVC.
[0063] According to one example, the first sleeve has a first joint formed by a relief forming a narrowing of diameter on the internal surface, the first joint separating the first portion from the second portion.
[0064] Fixing this first seal to the inner surface of the first sleeve creates a friction zone between the first seal and a tubular object positioned inside this first sleeve. The position of this first seal by the relationship to the first sleeve is defined so that sufficient distance on one side of the first joint is left to allow the first sleeve to be fitted onto a connecting tube.
[0065] According to one example, the first joint has a symmetry of revolution about the second longitudinal axis.
[0066] Thus, the first joint exhibits uniformity as a function of rotation around a second longitudinal axis. This configuration makes it possible to obtain uniform support of a connecting tube (onto which the first sleeve is fitted) over the entire periphery of the first joint.
[0067] According to one example, the first joint is shaped to be manually deformed or partially removed, for example using sandpaper.
[0068] This configuration allows, through a simple manual operation by the installer, the passage diameter defined by the first seal to be reduced according to the external diameter of the tubular object inserted into the first sleeve. Thus, variations in the external diameters of the connecting tubes are compensated for by this adjustment of the thickness of the first seal.
[0069] This makes it possible to obtain a reliable seal over time in an easy and quick way.
[0070] According to one example, the filter and the first sleeve are fitted together, the first longitudinal axis and the second longitudinal axis being coaxial.
[0071] Indeed, during the fitting between the filter and the first sleeve, the positioning between the filter and the first sleeve is symmetrical with respect to the longitudinal axis of symmetry of the filter - first sleeve assembly which is consequently coincident with the first longitudinal axis and with the second longitudinal axis.
[0072] According to one example, the first joint and the second joint have a width L12, taken along the longitudinal direction, of less than 3 mm and preferably less than 2 mm. The width L12 may be 1.5 mm.
[0073] Preferably, L12 <l / 10 L2, L2 étant la longueur du corps du premier manchon (ou du deuxième manchon) prise selon la direction longitudinale.
[0074] According to one example, the first and second seals have a thickness E12, measured along a radial direction to the longitudinal direction, of less than 1 mm and preferably less than 0.75 mm. The thickness E12 can be 0.5 mm.
[0076] According to one example, the first joint and the second joint have a V shape, the tip of the V extending radially in the direction of the longitudinal axis.
[0077] This allows for a linear contact between the first seal (or the second seal) and the tubular element inserted into the first sleeve (or the second sleeve), thus contributing to a reliable airtight seal. In this contact zone, the tubular object, most often made of PVC, is therefore pinched.
[0078] Furthermore, this V-shape makes it easier to remove the first seal (or the second seal) from their tip, in order to adapt the passage diameter defined by the first seal (or the second seal) to the external diameter of the tubular object inserted into the first sleeve (or the second sleeve).
[0079] According to one example, the first portion of the first sleeve (or the second sleeve) has a continuous section along the longitudinal axis.
[0080] According to one example, the second portion of the first sleeve (or of the second sleeve) has a continuous section along the longitudinal axis.
[0081] According to one example, the first seal (or the second seal) is positioned in the middle of the length of the first sleeve (or the second sleeve), the length of the first sleeve (or the second sleeve) being taken in the longitudinal direction.
[0082] According to one example, the second external surface of the first sleeve (or the second sleeve) has raised features. These features make it easier to grip and move the first sleeve (or the second sleeve) around and along the longitudinal axis.
[0083] According to one example, the first portion has a bore configured to cooperate with a shoulder carried respectively by the first external surface and the first additional external surface and located respectively between the first section and the third section and between the second section and the fourth section.
[0084] This cooperation forms a stop along the longitudinal direction when the first sleeve (or the second sleeve) is fitted with the filter. Thus, when this stop is reached, the operator knows that the relative axial positioning between the first sleeve (or the second sleeve) and the filter has been achieved.
[0085] According to one example, the first sleeve (or the second sleeve) and the filter are configured so that the first sleeve (or the second sleeve) cooperates by friction with the first section, preferably by covering at least part and preferably all of the third section.
[0086] Indeed, the two frustoconical surfaces and the first (or second) sleeve are inclined so as to match the inclination of the third and fourth sections. As for the cylindrical surface of the first (or second) sleeve, its lack of inclination allows it to fit onto the first section, which has an inclination.
[0087] Thus, the entire first section and most or even all of the second section are masked by the first sleeve (or the second sleeve).
[0088] According to one example, the first sleeve (or the second sleeve) cooperates with the filter so that the second external surface and the first external surface at the central portion form a continuous profile.
[0089] Indeed, in this case where the frustoconical surface of the first sleeve (or of the second section) completely covers the third section, given that the second external surface does not have an inclination, the whole of the second external surface and the first external surface forms a continuous and straight profile.
[0090] According to one example, the first sleeve is configured to be fitted by friction onto one of the first cooperation portion and the second cooperation portion of the filter, the device comprising a second sleeve configured to be fitted by friction, preferably by manual fitting, onto the other of the first cooperation portion and the second cooperation portion of the filter.
[0091] According to one example, the second sleeve is identical to the first sleeve, the second sleeve comprising a second seal, the second seal having a rotational symmetry about a third longitudinal axis of the second sleeve, the second seal being shaped to be manually deformed or partially removed, for example with the aid of sandpaper.
[0092] Thus, the filtration device comprises a second sleeve having the same characteristics as the first sleeve. Thus, as schematically shown in [Fig. 8], the filtration device may comprise a filter positioned in the center with a sleeve on each side of this filter.
[0093] According to one example, the first cooperation portion is fitted onto the first sleeve which itself is fitted onto a first connecting tube and the second cooperation portion is fitted onto one of a cap and a second connecting tube.
[0094] With this configuration, the filtration device can be positioned at the end of an air duct.
[0095] According to one example, the first cooperation portion is fitted onto the first sleeve which itself is fitted onto a first connecting tube and the second cooperation portion is fitted onto the second sleeve which itself is fitted onto a second connecting tube.
[0096] With this configuration, the filtration device can be positioned within an air duct.
[0097] According to one example, the air filtration device includes a cap and a connecting tube.
[0098] According to one example, the air filtration device includes a first connecting tube and a second connecting tube.
[0099] According to one example, an installation method is provided in which the open portion defines in the conduit a passage having a length Lpassage, the length being taken along a principal direction of extension of the existing conduit at the level of the open portion, L1 being the length of the filter taken along a principal direction of extension of the existing conduit, preferably Lpassage = Ll+J, with J <5 mm (103 meters), preferably J <2 mm (103 meters).
[0100] Thus, the length of the passage is defined so as to be able to house the filter after inserting the two sleeves on each side of the open portion.
[0101] According to one example, an installation method is provided in which the fitting of the first sleeve onto an external face of the first connecting tube includes a deformation or partial removal, for example with sandpaper, of the first seal, preferably so that the diameter on the internal surface of the first sleeve at the level of the first seal is equal to the diameter of the external surface of the first connecting tube.
[0102] This step of the process consists of machining the seal attached to the sleeve so that the internal diameter of the sleeve corresponds to the external diameter of the tube to which it is attached. This step ensures adhesion (between the sleeve and the tube to which it is attached) necessary for robust retention between the various elements of the filtration device.
[0103] According to one example, a method for installing a filtration device is provided, comprising the following steps: a. deformation or partial removal, for example with sandpaper, of the first and second seals so that the diameter on the internal surface of the first and second sleeves, at the level of the first and second seals respectively, is equal to the diameter of the external surface of the first and second connecting tubes respectively, b. fitting the first sleeve onto the cut end of the first connecting tube and fitting the second sleeve onto the cut end of the second connecting tube so as to have a distance greater than Ll between the first sleeve and the second sleeve, c. positioning of the filter between the first sleeve and the second sleeve, d. displacement of the first sleeve and the second sleeve so that the The first sleeve fits onto the first cooperation section and the second sleeve fits onto the second cooperation section.
[0104] Thanks to this method, attaching the filter to the two sleeves and attaching each sleeve to a separate connecting tube is particularly easy.
[0105] According to one embodiment, the air filtration device comprises a filter 1 to charcoal comprising a body configured for positioning charcoal. The body has a first transverse plane of symmetry 5 and comprises a central portion 5a, a first cooperation portion la and a second cooperation portion 1b. The first cooperation portion la and the second cooperation portion 1b are located between (and in contact with) the central portion 5a and respectively a first distal end 61a of the filter 1 and a second distal end 61b of the filter 1.
[0106] The first cooperation portion 1a and the second cooperation portion 1b respectively have a first external surface 3a facing outwards from the filter 1 and a first additional external surface 3b facing outwards from the filter 1, intended to be positioned by friction in the cavity of a tubular surface. The first external surface 3a and the first additional external surface 3b have rotational symmetry about a first longitudinal axis 22 of the filter.
[0107] The first external surface 3a has two sections hereafter referred to as first section 6a and third section 7a. The first additional external surface 3b also has two sections referred to as second section 6b and fourth section 7b.
[0108] The first section 6a is located between the end of the first cooperation portion 1a and the first transverse plane of symmetry 5. The second section 6b is located between the end of the second cooperation portion 1b and the first transverse plane of symmetry 5. The first section 6a and a second section 6b are located respectively at the contact of the end of the first cooperation portion 1a and the second cooperation portion 1b. The first section 6a and the second section 6b are truncated cones. The diameter of the first section 6a and the second section 6b increases respectively from a first distal end 61a and a second distal end 61b where they have a diameter D6min to a first proximal end 62a and a second proximal end 62b respectively where they have a diameter D6max.
[0109] The third section 7a is located between the first section 6a and the first transverse plane of symmetry 5. The fourth section 7b is located between the second section 6b and the first transverse plane of symmetry 5. The third section 7a and the fourth section 7b are located at the contact of the first section 6a and the second section 6b, respectively. The third section 7a and the fourth section 7b are truncated cones. The diameters of the third section 7a and the fourth section 7b increase from a third distal end 71a and a fourth distal end 71b, where they have a diameter D7min, to a third proximal end 72a and a fourth proximal end 72b, respectively, where they have a diameter D7max, with D7max > D7min > D6max > D6min. The various diameters are measured along an axis perpendicular to the first longitudinal axis 22.
[0110] Advantageously, the air filtration device includes a first sleeve 2 configured to cover the filter 1. This coupling is achieved by friction fitting. Preferably, this fitting is manual. This means that it is not necessary to use tools, particularly power tools, to perform this coupling.
[0111] The first sleeve 2 has a second longitudinal axis of symmetry 23a, a second external surface 4 and an internal surface 11. The internal surface 11 has: - a first portion 2a configured to position itself on one of the first cooperation portion 1a and the second cooperation portion 1b by a friction mechanism, - a second portion 2b configured to position itself on a tubular object taken from a first connecting tube or a pipe cap by a friction mechanism.
[0112] According to a preferred embodiment, the first portion 2a and the second portion 2b are identical and are positioned on either side of a transverse plane of symmetry 10 of the sleeve.
[0113] The first section 6a (or the second section 6b) and the third section 7a (or the fourth 7b) flare out as they approach the first transverse plane of symmetry 5 according to a first inclination 13 and a second inclination 14 respectively.
[0114] The two frustoconical surfaces 8a, 8b flare out as they move away from the second transverse plane of symmetry 10 of the sleeve in question according to a third inclination 15.

[0133] Preferably, the method for installing an air filtration device comprises the following steps: - abrasion, for example using sandpaper, of the first joint 12a so as to create a junction surface (and a bonding surface by friction) between the internal surface 11 of the first sleeve 2, at the level of the first joint 12a and the external surface of the first connecting tube 25, - positioning of the first sleeve 2 on the first connecting tube 25, - positioning of filter 1 so that the first cooperation portion is covered by a friction mechanism by the first sleeve 2 and - positioning of cap 16 so that it covers the second cooperation portion 1b by a friction mechanism.
[0134] According to one possibility, the sandpaper is applied to the first seal 12a and to the second seal 12b so that the value of the diameter of the internal surface 11 of the first sleeve 2 at the level of the seal in question is between the value of the diameter of the external surface of the first connecting tube 25 and the value of the diameter of the external surface of the first connecting tube 25 less 3% of the value of the diameter of the external surface of the first connecting tube 25. This configuration is indeed possible because the first seal 12a and the second seal 12b are compressible.
