Abstract
Description
Title of the invention: Motor vehicle structure with rear axle support reinforcement
[0001] The invention relates to the attachment of an axle to a motor vehicle structure. The invention relates to the reinforcement of a train attachment zone, for example rear, of a motor vehicle structure. The invention relates to a motor vehicle structure. The invention also relates to a motor vehicle.
[0002] The rear axle of a motor vehicle is an essential element for stability; it is arranged transversely. It ensures the connection of the rear wheels of the vehicle to the chassis. The rigidity of this assembly contributes to road holding; and therefore to safety in addition to improving driving pleasure on bends.
[0003] The rear axle of a vehicle is fixed to the vehicle body in different areas. For this purpose, it has different fixing points distributed over its length, at its front edge and its rear edge. When traveling, the motor vehicle crosses different bumps and hollows generating shocks in the rear axle; and therefore peaks of mechanical stress at the fixing points. Faced with this phenomenon, it has been proposed to connect a suspension junction to a rear chassis element, and to provide reinforcement of the structure at the location of the fixing of said suspension junction.
[0004] Document US4557519A presents a motor vehicle comprising a structure. This structure has a rear floor panel, and a rear frame joined to the lower face of the rear floor panel. The vehicle also has a closed-section frame formed by a lower face of the front floor panel. The frame has a rear side member fixed to the central side member, against its internal element. The rear side member forms a hollow body whose front end has a triangular profile along the front side member. The structure also receives a rear axle attachment reinforcement arranged in the triangular front end of the rear side member. The rear axle has a pivot connection with a fixing plate fixed to the attachment reinforcement through the rear side member. In addition, the structure has an auxiliary reinforcement arranged in the rear side member; behind the attachment reinforcement. However, the rigidity of such a structure remains limited.
[0005] The invention aims to address at least one of the problems or drawbacks encountered in the prior art. In particular, the invention aims to stiffen a motor vehicle structure, in particular at the level of a running gear attachment. [0038] In the following description, the term "comprise" is synonymous with "include" and is not limiting in that it allows the presence of other elements in the motor vehicle or structure to which it relates. It is understood that the term "comprise" includes the terms "consist of". The terms "external" and "internal" will designate respectively that which is oriented towards the outside of the vehicle and towards the inside of the vehicle.
[0039] In the present description, the term "longitudinal", the term "longitudinally", the term "transverse", and the term "transversely" are used according to the reference frame of the vehicle, in the mounting configuration. The term "longitudinal" corresponds to the main direction of movement of the vehicle. The term "transverse" corresponds to a direction perpendicular to the main direction of movement of the vehicle. The term "front" refers to the main direction of movement of the vehicle. The term "rear" designates the opposite of the front of the vehicle.
[0040] The X axis represents the longitudinal direction, the Y axis represents the transverse direction, and the Z axis represents the vertical direction of the motor vehicle. These three axes define a direct trihedron whose orientation is preserved throughout the figures.
[0041] In the present description, the term "plate" designates a sheet of any material. The plate can be curved. It can be solid, wide, of reduced thickness, but rigid. It generally forms a panel.
[0042] In the present description, the term "vertical" and the term "horizontal" are not to be understood in the strict sense of the term. Indeed, they allow an inclination of at most 20°, preferably at most 10°, more preferably at most 5°, even more preferably at most 2°; compared to the strict sense of these terms.
[0043] In this description, the technical characteristics are defined in the mounting configuration of the structure, unless explicitly mentioned otherwise.
[0044] Throughout the description, the different figures use the same reference signs to designate identical or similar entities.
[0045] [Fig.l] represents a motor vehicle 10 according to the invention. The motor vehicle 10 comprises energy storage means (not shown) and at least one motor 14 adapted to drive said motor vehicle 10.
[0046] The motor vehicle 10 comprises a structure 16. The structure 16 forms an outer body, or even a main frame of the motor vehicle. The structure 16 delimits different compartments of the motor vehicle 10, including the passenger compartment 18, the engine compartment (not shown). The structure 16 may be formed from an assembly of stamped sheets welded to each other. They may be made of steel or aluminum alloy. The floor 12 delimits the passenger compartment 18, and partially forms the base 20.
[0047] The structure 16 connects different parts of the motor vehicle 10 including the openings. The structure 16 forms a mounting support for the powertrain, the suspension systems, the steering system, the braking systems, the running gear.
[0048] On each side, the structure 16 comprises at least one side member 28. The at least one side member 28 may comprise a central side member 26 and at least one auxiliary side member 30. The central side member 26 extends along the passenger compartment 18. The central side member 26 extends between the wheels 24 of the running gears 68. The running gears 68 comprise a front end and a rear end. They form the axles of the motor vehicle 10.
[0049] The auxiliary spar 30 longitudinally extends the central spar 26. The auxiliary spar 30 has a length and / or a section less than that of the central spar 26. The central spar 26 is essentially straight, while the auxiliary spar 30 is generally bent. The auxiliary spar 30 extends longitudinally along an associated wheel arch area 22. The wheel arch area is a longitudinal section of the structure extending longitudinally at the wheel arch. The wheel arch 22 has a housing for the corresponding wheel 24. It forms a transverse narrowing of the structure 16. The auxiliary spar 30 is preferably a rear spar; commonly called a “spar”. Alternatively, it is a front spar.
[0050] The motor vehicle 10 may for example be a private motor vehicle or a utility motor vehicle.
[0051] [Fig. 2] shows a portion of structure 16 and a running gear 68 of a motor vehicle according to the invention. The motor vehicle corresponds to that shown in relation to [Fig. 1]. The structure 16 is turned over with respect to its mounting configuration in order to expose the underbody 20. The wheels are not shown by clarity concerns.
[0052] The structure 16 comprises a cross member 62. The cross member 62 forms a horizontal beam. It transversely connects the left side members and the right side members. The floor 12 of the passenger compartment is fixed to it.
[0053] The structure 16 is essentially symmetrical. Therefore, the structure 16 will be described with reference to one of the sides, with the understanding that the following description applies to each side; unless explicitly stated otherwise.
[0054] The structure 16 comprises at least one spar 28 transversely delimiting the base 20. The central spar 26 and the auxiliary spar 30 border it laterally.
[0055] A running gear 68 (partially shown) is fixed under the structure 16. The running gear 68 has a cradle, for example an engine cradle, and a suspension system with suspension arms, a shock absorber, brake systems and one or more motors 14. The running gear 68 is fixed to said at least one side member 28, preferably to the auxiliary side member 30.
[0056] Towards the central spar 26, the structure 16 has a mounting bracket 38 for the running gear 68. The mounting bracket 38 forms a mounting plate for the running gear. The mounting bracket 38 is fixed to said at least one spar 28, preferably to the central spar 26 and to the auxiliary spar 30. It connects them. The mounting bracket 38 is optionally fixed to the cross member 62. The mounting bracket 38 therefore forms a stiffener for the structure 16.
[0057] The fixing support 38 is for example formed from a stamped sheet metal. Similarly, the auxiliary spar 30 may be formed by one or more stamped sheets. The latter may be in longitudinal extension of one another. They define a continuous longitudinal recess (not visible).
[0058] The structure 16 further comprises an internal reinforcement (not shown). The internal reinforcement is arranged at least partially in the longitudinal recess of the auxiliary spar 30. The spar 28 is longer than the internal reinforcement. Preferably, the internal reinforcement forms a lining of the spar 28, in particular of the auxiliary spar. It fits the inner surface thereof. They can be fitted into one another.
[0059] The structure 16 also has a reinforcing plate 42. The reinforcing plate 42 forms a connecting piece. The reinforcing plate 42 is in one piece. It may be generally flat in order to ensure optimum rigidity. The reinforcing plate 42 is towards the outside of the structure 16. It forms a vertical and longitudinal wall of the structure 16; it delimits the wheel arch 22. The wheel arch 22 may comprise a vertical partition and a horizontal partition above the vertical partition.
[0060] The reinforcing plate 42 comprises a sheet with a thickness arranged according to the transverse direction, it forms a panel and / or a screen. The reinforcing plate 42 is fixed to the auxiliary spar 30 and to the fixing support 38 in order to connect them. Thus, the reinforcing plate 42 stiffens the structure 16 at the level of the fixing support 38 and therefore of a connecting wing. This reinforces the anchoring of the running gear 68 and stiffens the structure 16 in its entirety against torsion in the longitudinal direction or central axis.
[0061] According to an alternative of the invention, the reinforcement plate comprises a composite material with a plastic matrix and a fibrous reinforcement to optimize the mass and the rigidity.
[0062] The reinforcement plate 42 is fixed at the level of the internal reinforcement (not visible); preferably through the auxiliary spar 30. The internal reinforcement, the auxiliary spar 30 and the reinforcement plate 42 are fixed using triple-thickness spot welds 52. The triple-thickness spot welds 52 define an alignment of fixing points. Generally, the spot welds are fixing points, and can be replaced by rivets or adhesives. They form fixing means. The fixing means form a longitudinal alignment of fixing points. This longitudinal alignment increases the rigidity of the structure 16 at the level of the reinforcement plate 42.
[0063] [Fig. 3] shows an isometric view of the attachment of a running gear 68, for example a rear gear, to a structure 16 of a motor vehicle according to the invention. The motor vehicle corresponds to that presented in relation to one of Figures 1 to 2. The reinforcement plate is shown in dotted lines in order to expose the housing in the attachment support 38.
[0064] The running gear 68, in this case the rear gear, shows at least one attachment axis 66. The attachment axis 66 (symbolized by a dot-and-dash line) is vertical. It may comprise a screw or a stud. It is longitudinally at the level of the reinforcement plate 42 in order to increase the robustness of the structure 16 at the location where the running gear 68 communicates the mechanical stresses to the structure 16. The attachment axis 66 is fixed to the side member 28, in particular the auxiliary side member 30, as well as to the attachment support 38.
[0065] The fixing support 38 comprises a horizontal portion, and a vertical portion extending vertically from the spar 28 to the horizontal portion. The reinforcing plate 42 (shown in dotted lines) is fixed to the horizontal portion and to the vertical portion. According to an option of the invention, the reinforcing plate 42 extends vertically over the entire height of the vertical portion.
[0066] The fixing support 38 comprises at least one joining wing 64, preferably at least two joining wings 64, for example a horizontal joining wing and a vertical joining wing. Each joining wing 64 is fixed to the reinforcing plate 42, for example using fixing points such as welds or rivets. The joining wings 64 are coplanar, they extend in directions perpendicular to each other. They fit the reinforcing plate 42.
[0067] At the level of the fixing axis 66, the side member 28 has a boss 72 for fixing the running gear 68. The fixing boss 72 is covered by the fixing support 38. It is also longitudinally along the reinforcement plate 42. The fixing boss 72 has a horizontal bearing surface. This horizontal surface is capable of receiving a mounting element of the running gear 68, such as a spacer.
[0068] [Fig. 4] represents a structure 16 with a running gear 68, for example a rear axle, of a motor vehicle. The motor vehicle corresponds to that presented in relation to one of FIGS. 1 to 3. The internal reinforcement 34 is shown in excess thickness in the side member 28, which makes it possible to visualize the internal reinforcement 34 in its longitudinal recess. The outline of the internal reinforcement 34 is superimposed on the side member 28. The internal reinforcement 34 extends longitudinally. It extends over the entire length of the side member 28.
[0069] Subsequently in the description, the characteristics defined in relation to the spar 28 also apply to the auxiliary spar 30.
[0070] The internal reinforcement 34 extends longitudinally at the level of the fixing support 38. They overlap longitudinally. They are superimposed. In the present embodiment, the internal reinforcement 34 is above the fixing support 38. The fixing support 38 extends under the internal reinforcement 34. The rear axle shows a fixing zone formed by a fixing support 38. The fixing support 38 comprises a lower surface intended to receive the fixing of said running gear 68, in this case the fixing axis 66.
[0071] The reinforcement plate 42 (shown in dotted lines) comprises an upper edge 44. The upper edge 44 is generally inclined to follow the spar 28, and extends longitudinally. The upper edge 44 is fixed to the internal reinforcement 34. The internal reinforcement 34 comprises a longitudinal fixing flange 46, said longitudinal fixing flange 46 being fixed to the upper edge 44. It may be an upper flange. It is vertically spaced from the fixing support 38 to extend the fixing zones.
[0072] The side member 28 comprises an external wall 48. The external wall 48 extends vertically and longitudinally. It delimits the wheel arch 22. The upper edge 44 is fixed to the internal reinforcement 34 through the external wall 48; for example using at least one welding point.
[0073] The longitudinal fixing flange 46 remains inside the spar 28. According to an alternative not shown of the invention, the longitudinal fixing flange comes out of the side member, for example upwards. The longitudinal mounting flange extends higher than the outer wall.
[0074] [Fig. 5] shows a section of the structure 16 of a motor vehicle. The motor vehicle corresponds to that shown in relation to one of FIGS. 1 to 4. The section is longitudinally at the level of the crossmember 62; along the fixing axis 66.
[0075] The reinforcement plate 42 is fixed to the internal reinforcement 34 through the side member 28. The reinforcement plate 42 forms a sheet, a partition delimiting the wheel arch 22. The reinforcement plate 42 has a constant thickness. It is vertical in order to vertically connect the internal reinforcement 34 to the fixing support 38. It has two opposite main faces, optionally one is concave and the other is convex in order to fit the side member 28 if necessary.
[0076] The internal reinforcement 34, the spar 28 and the reinforcement plate 42 are fixed using spot welds, preferably triple-thickness spot welds. A triple-thickness spot weld 52 passes through the thicknesses of the three sheets that it joins.
[0077] The at least one fixing axis 66 passes through the fixing support 38 and the side member 28. The at least one fixing axis 66 is longitudinally at the level of the reinforcement plate 42 which makes it possible to reinforce the area in which the running gear 68 is fixed. The fixing support 38 comprises a joining wing 64 which is horizontal. This wing is a lower joining wing, and is fixed to the reinforcement plate 42.
[0078] The structure 16 has a stack comprising from bottom to top: the running gear 68, the fixing support 38, the side member 28, the internal reinforcement 34, and optionally the cross member 62. These entities are nested one inside the other. The stack is observed at the level of the fixing axis 66. The reinforcement plate 42 extends vertically along this stack in order to reinforce it. The internal reinforcement 34 has a thickness greater than the thickness of the side member 28, in this case greater than the side member 28. Thus the reinforcement plate 42 offers increased rigidity. Similarly, the internal reinforcement 34 has a thickness greater than that of the side member 28.
[0079] The internal reinforcement 34 has an internal longitudinal fixing flange 46. The longitudinal fixing flange 46 forms a tongue. It extends longitudinally and projects vertically from the internal reinforcement 34. It forms the top of the internal reinforcement 34. The longitudinal fixing flange 46 is fixed to the upper edge 44 of the fixing support 38, in particular via the triple thickness welding point 52.
[0080] The structure 16 comprises a fixing passage 58 for the running gear 68. The fixing passage 58 may be delimited by a spacer. It is crossed by the fixing axis 66. The fixing passage 58 passes vertically through the fixing support 38 and the side member 28. The fixing passage 58 is delimited by fixing orifices 70 formed in the latter two. The fixing passage 58 is vertically spaced from the internal reinforcement 34. The internal reinforcement 34 closes the fixing passage 58. The internal reinforcement 34 is blind.
[0081] The internal reinforcement 34 is arranged in the longitudinal recess 32 delimited by the spar 28 and forming a longitudinal tunnel. The internal reinforcement 34 forms an internal lining of the spar 28. It fits at least two faces to which it is fixed. It extends at least over half the length of the spar 28.
[0082] The spar 28 comprises an external wall 48, an internal wall 74, a lower wall 60 transversely connecting the external wall 48 and the internal wall 74. The spar 28 has a “U” shaped profile, open upwards; and therefore towards the cross member 62 which closes it. The lower wall 60 is horizontal. It is under the internal reinforcement 34; for example vertically between the fixing support 38 and the internal reinforcement 34. It extends into the fixing support 38. The lower wall 60 is vertically at the level of the reinforcement plate 42. The reinforcement plate 42 is transversely outside the spar 28 and the fixing support 38. It closes a housing between the spar 28 and the fixing support 38.
[0083] The present description is made in relation to only one side of the assembly; in this case the left side. However, the present teaching applies to both sides, unless explicitly mentioned otherwise.
[0084] Similarly, the present description is detailed in relation to the rear of the motor vehicle. However, the present teaching also applies to the front of the vehicle. In particular, the side member may be a front side member.
[0085] The invention comprises the combination of all the embodiments shown by all the figures.
[0086] Figures 2 to 5 are isometric views. They each respect a specific scale, real angles and real proportions.
