Description

Title of the invention: Motor vehicle whose bumper skin reinforcement is held and / or fixed on the front headlights

[0001] The invention lies in the field of motor vehicles and relates more particularly to the front face of vehicles and in particular the management of clearances between the front headlights and the front bumper skin.

[0002] The bumper skin is one of the body parts of a motor vehicle that are visible to the user, and which must combine good aesthetic performance with technical performance. Many parts forming the body of a vehicle are currently prepared in plastic material, this makes it possible to reduce the overall weight of the vehicle and therefore its greenhouse gas emissions such as carbon dioxide. This is, for example, the case of parts that can be assembled to form a bumper skin commonly called a bumper; although the actual shock absorption is done by means of a system internal to the vehicle comprising transverse beams associated with shock absorbers.

[0003] The bumper skin often nevertheless shows a certain flexibility which implies that it is associated with one or more bumper reinforcement pieces, the whole being supported by a bumper frame; the whole forms a front face of the vehicle.

[0004] In addition to their attachment to said frame, the various elements are attached to each other by various means, such as clipping. Observing clearances and flushnesses is part of the perceived quality of the vehicle by the user, which is therefore important to observe as much as possible. It has been observed that in certain vehicles the clearances and flushnesses at the level of the front headlights were not always respected, the flushnesses and clearances considered being those under the front headlight but also on the sides of the front headlight, for example the outer side, when for reasons of style the bumper skin includes a lateral extension going up on the outer side of the headlight.

[0005] Document FR3008661B1 presents a device for fixing the front bumper of a motor vehicle. The bumper skin comprises two extensions (or parts) each arranged between one of the two front headlights and the grille. The device comprises a plate fixed on the one hand to one of said extensions and on the other hand to the housing of the nearest headlight. This document proposes fixing the bumper skin to the headlights to ensure their respective positions. This solution has given good results but deserves to be improved since it involves screwing operations and the addition of additional parts. A more A simple and economical solution remains to be found. Furthermore, the proposed solution targets bumper extensions that extend up the inner sides of the headlights.

[0006] Document FR3117963A1 presents a bumper assembly comprising a bumper skin, a bumper reinforcement fixed integrally to the bumper skin, front headlights and side wings. An assembly device is present and is configured to securely connect the bumper reinforcement to the headlight, in particular on its outer lateral side by means of incomplete connections. Furthermore, a fixing device is configured to securely connect the bumper skin to the wing by means of a complete connection. This solution is interesting but implements a complicated assembly of the bumper involving an incomplete connection by screwing the reinforcement onto the headlights. Furthermore, the use of incomplete connections allows a lateral translation of the bumper skin reinforcement relative to the headlight, which does not allow the clearances and flushnesses to be respected in this area.

[0007] The invention aims to address at least one of the problems or drawbacks encountered in the prior art. The invention aims to maintain the clearances and flushness of the bumper skin with the front headlights and in particular to ensure the bumper is held in place in an area which rises laterally under the headlight. The invention also aims to facilitate the mounting of the bumper on the vehicle.

[0008] To this end and according to a first aspect, the invention relates to a motor vehicle comprising a body, front headlights fixed to the body, a front bumper skin, and a bumper skin reinforcement comprising a body extending in the transverse direction of the vehicle and matching the shape of the bumper skin; the vehicle being remarkable in that the front bumper skin reinforcement comprises a pair of lateral extensions extending on either side of its body under said front headlights and in that the bumper skin reinforcement is assembled to the front headlights by means of elements for holding one on the other and / or by means of fixing elements, said fixing elements comprising at least one clip and at least one fixing lug configured to cooperate with said clip.

[0009] As will be understood from reading the definition which has just been given, the invention is remarkable in that it proposes a solution for respecting clearances and flushnesses which does not use complex fixing means such as screws or bolts, that is to say fixing means requiring intervention by the fitter after the bumper has been put in place. As will be seen in detail, the holding elements and / or the fixing elements used in the context of the invention and carried by the bumper reinforcement will cooperate with the means com additional lights carried by the front headlights by simply mounting the bumper on the vehicle. In addition, the assembly according to the invention allows a slight translational movement of the bumper skin reinforcement in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle. Thus, it is possible to maintain the clearance between the bumper skin and the front headlights at least in height (and preferably also in the transverse direction of the vehicle) while maintaining a certain flexibility of depression during small frontal impacts

[0010] When the bumper skin reinforcement comprises elements for holding by bearing on each other, the latter will fit into each other so that the fitter can visually see that the fitting is correct.

[0011] When the bumper skin reinforcement comprises fastening elements such as at least one clip or at least one fastening tab configured to cooperate with such a clip, the fitter can follow the fastening of the bumper skin reinforcement on the front headlights by ear, since he will hear the noise generated by the fastening of the tab(s) in the clip(s).

[0012] It will be noted that the attachment of the bumper to the vehicle involving staples is known in the context of attachment to the side wings. Thus, document FR2857314B1 presents a device for attaching the cross-shaped side parts of the front bumper of a motor vehicle to the wings thereof. The attachment device comprises a side plate secured to each wing of the vehicle, making it possible to reversibly lock, by stapling means, an edge of the corresponding side part in the form of a bumper cross between the support plate and an edge of the wing to which the support plate is attached by two spaced-apart attachment means located in the vicinity of the two ends of the support plate respectively. The support plate comprises, near its front fixing means, a transverse zone of weakness allowing, after having removed the rear fixing means from the support plate, an elastic downward bending along this zone of the support plate under the action of a force exerted by an installer at the end of the support plate opposite the front fixing means of the latter, so as to release the stapling means and unlock the lateral part in the form of a butt of the bumper to allow disassembly of this part.

[0040] Reference throughout this description to "an embodiment" means that a feature, structure, or characteristic described in connection with the embodiment is included in at least one embodiment of the present disclosure. Particular features, structures, or embodiments may be combined in any suitable manner, as will be apparent to those skilled in the art from this description, in one or more embodiments.

[0041] Unless otherwise defined, all terms used in the disclosure, including technical and scientific terms, have the meaning as commonly understood by those skilled in the art to which this disclosure pertains. Certain definitions of terms used in the description are included to better appreciate the teaching of this disclosure.

[0042] Throughout the description, the different figures use the same reference signs to designate identical or similar entities.

[0043] The vehicle, the bumper skin reinforcement, the front headlights and the methods according to the invention will be described jointly.

[0044] Reference will be made to Figures 1 and 2 illustrating examples of bumper skin reinforcement 1. Subsequently, "the bumper skin reinforcement 1" may be referred to as "the reinforcement 1" to facilitate reading. The bumper skin reinforcement 1 is an internal part which is not normally visible from the outside by the end user of the vehicle. This part reinforces the bumper skin which is, itself, visible. The bumper skin reinforcement 1 is intended to be placed in contact with the internal face of the bumper skin (not shown) and fits it by complementary shape. The bumper skin reinforcement 1 is fixed to the internal face of the bumper skin. For this purpose, the reinforcement 1 comprises a body 3 intended to extend in the transverse direction of the vehicle and to fit the shape of a bumper skin in order to reinforce it.This body 3 is arranged centrally with respect to the transverse direction of the vehicle. The body 3 has a set of stiffening ribs and partitions.

[0045] According to the invention, the reinforcement 1 comprises a pair of lateral extensions 5 extending on either side of its body 3 and intended to be placed under the front headlights (not shown). The lateral extensions reinforce the cheeks of the bumper and show a curved shape towards the rear of the vehicle. As we will see in detail, the reinforcement 1 is remarkable in that it further comprises holding elements on the front headlights (not visible in figures 1 and 2) and / or fixing elements 7 to the headlights. Said fixing elements 7 (visible in [Fig.2]) comprise at least one clip or at least one fixing lug 7 configured to cooperate with a clip.

[0046] Advantageously, and as illustrated in figures 1 and 2, the lateral extensions 5 are made in one piece with the body 3 of the reinforcement 1.

[0047] In the embodiment illustrated in [Fig.2], the reinforcement 1 comprises fixing lugs 7 extending from the lateral extensions 5 and configured to cooperate with complementary clips carried by the front headlights when the reinforcement 1 is mounted in a vehicle. Preferably, the fixing lugs 7 are integral with the lateral extensions 5. Thus the reinforcement 1 can be molded in a single piece.

[0048] In an embodiment of the invention not shown, the clips are carried by the reinforcement 1 and the front headlights have fixing lugs complementary to said clips.

[0049] The fixing elements of the reinforcement 1 can be arranged at the upper edge of the lateral extensions so as to cooperate with the complementary fixing elements of the front headlights which will be arranged at the front face of said front headlights, for example on the housing of the front headlights under the glass of the headlight.

[0050] In the embodiment illustrated in [Fig.2], the fixing lugs 7 of the reinforcement 1 extend from the lateral end edges of the lateral extensions 5 and are folded towards the rear so as to be able to cooperate with clips arranged on the outer sides of the front headlights. This configuration makes it possible to ensure that clearances and flushnesses are maintained both according to the height and according to the transverse direction of the vehicle; this is particularly advantageous when, for reasons of style, the bumper skin includes a lateral extension rising on the outer side of the front headlight.

[0051] An example of a fixing lug 7 according to the invention is illustrated in [Fig.3]. It can be seen that it carries a female fixing interface 9 intended to receive the clip. Advantageously, the female fixing interface 9 allows translation in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle. Thus, it is possible to maintain the clearance according to the height and in the transverse direction of the vehicle while maintaining a certain flexibility during small frontal impacts.

[0052] [Fig. 4] illustrates a clip 11 complementary to the fixing lug previously described. In the illustrated embodiment, the clip 11 is carried by the front headlight 13, on a protuberance 15 rising from the outer surface of the housing of the front headlight 13. It will be advantageous for the clip 11 to be an added part on the front headlight housing so as not to compromise the sealing of the front headlight housing. The clip 11 is preferably made of a metallic material so as to grip the protuberance 15 which carries it.

[0053] The assembly of the fixing lug 7 of the reinforcement 1 on the clip 11 carried by the front headlight 13 is illustrated in [Fig.5].

[0054] [Fig. 6] illustrates an example of holding elements (17, 19) according to the invention configured to bear on each other. In the illustrated embodiment, the front headlight 13 has on its housing at least one rib 17 and / or at least one holding tab forming a support surface on which a support surface 19 shown by the reinforcement, and in particular by its lateral extensions, comes to bear. However, in an embodiment not shown, the housing may have a support surface on which a rib or at least one support tab presented by the bumper skin reinforcement comes to rest.

[0055] The important thing, as will be understood, is to allow the bumper reinforcement 1 to bear on the front headlight which is fixed to the body of the vehicle. By this means not only is the bumper reinforcement 1 maintained in height at the level of its lateral extensions 5 but the clearance with the front headlight 13 is also respected. In particular, when the holding elements (17, 19) are arranged under the window 21 of the headlight, on the front face of the front headlight 13, the clearance in height between said window 21 of the headlight and the bumper skin 23 is respected.

[0056] The invention is remarkable in that by proposing support by means of surfaces bearing on each other, the invention allows translation in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle and maintains a certain flexibility during small frontal impacts, preserving the front headlights.

[0057] Thus the invention relates to a motor vehicle comprising a body, front headlights 13 fixed to the body, a front bumper skin 23, and a bumper skin reinforcement 1 comprising a body 3 extending in the transverse direction of the vehicle and matching the shape of the bumper skin 23; the vehicle being remarkable in that the front bumper skin reinforcement 1 comprises a pair of lateral extensions 5 extending on either side of its body 3 under said front headlights 13 and in that the bumper skin reinforcement 1 is assembled to the front headlights 13 by means of holding elements (17, 19) bearing on each other, and / or by means of fixing elements (7, 11), said fixing elements comprising at least one clip 11 and at least one fixing lug 7 configured to cooperate with said clip 11.

[0058] According to a preferred embodiment, illustrated in [Fig.7], the bumper skin reinforcement 1 further comprises at least one rear support lug 25 with a free end. The rear support lug(s) 25 are sized to be able to be placed in support on a bumper beam of said vehicle (not shown). The rear support leg(s) 25 extend from the rear face of the body 3 towards the rear of the vehicle. According to the invention, the bumper skin reinforcement 1 further comprises an upper plate 27 acting as a bumper frame. The body 3, the rear support leg(s) 25 and the upper plate 27 are advantageously made in one piece with the body 3 of the reinforcement 1.

[0059] It is understood that the bumper skin reinforcement 1 then has the elements necessary for the bumper reinforcement function for supporting the bumper, the function of which it will take on in addition to the function of reinforcing the bumper skin. The whole being molded in a single piece, the invention makes it possible to minimize the costs associated with the manufacture and assembly of different parts and also allows a weight saving for the vehicle.

[0060] It is understood that the rear support leg(s) 25 are intended to extend in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle, when the bumper skin reinforcement 1 is mounted on a motor vehicle, in the direction of the bumper beam on which they will bear. The rear support leg(s) 25 have a free end and an end for anchoring to the body 3. For example, the rear support leg(s) 25 are hollow and have internal reinforcement partitions. According to the illustrated embodiment, the rear support leg(s) 25 are in the form of a plurality of ribs of substantially triangular shape and forming a square.

[0061] According to the embodiment shown, the rear support leg(s) 25 show a decreasing height between their anchoring ends in the body 3 of the reinforcement 1 and their free ends. Preferably, they also show a flat support surface intended to rest on the bumper beam (not shown). The flat support surface may comprise a plate for fixing the reinforcement 1 to the bumper beam.

[0062] Advantageously, the reinforcement 1 comprises at least two rear support lugs 25. According to an embodiment not shown, it comprises at least three support lugs distributed over the body 3 of the reinforcement 1 in the transverse direction of the vehicle.

[0063] In a known manner, when the vehicle is assembled, the bumper skin reveals one or more openings intended for the passage of air for cooling a thermal engine and closed by grilles. Thus a front face of a vehicle can show a lower grille and an upper grille. These parts are generally attached to the bumper skin and are fixed there by screwing.

[0064] According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the bumper skin reinforcement 1 comprises at least one grid 29 which is integral with the body 3. Judiciously, the reinforcement 1 is intended for a vehicle whose front face shows an upper bumper grid 29 and a lower bumper grid. According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the bumper skin reinforcement 1 comprises at least one grid 29 which is integral with the body 3. Judiciously, the reinforcement 1 is intended for a vehicle whose front face shows an upper bumper grid 29 and a lower bumper grid. embodiment not shown, and alternatively or additionally, the lower grid or at least part of the lower grid is integral with the body 3 of the reinforcement 1 according to the invention.

[0065] For styling reasons, some vehicles feature a "soft nose." This term refers to a strip or upper element of the bumper skin that extends transversely above the front headlights. This element gives the bumper skin a rounded and soft shape to improve the aesthetics of the vehicle. This upper element is usually reinforced by one or more specific and added elements.

[0066] According to one embodiment of the invention, the bumper skin reinforcement 1 will extend in height so as to form a central element 31 intended to support and reinforce the upper part of the bumper skin. It is understood that such a central element 31 will extend in height beyond the upper plate 27 with which it forms a rim. It is molded so as to be integral with the body 3 of the bumper skin reinforcement 1.

[0067] Advantageously, the reinforcement 1 is configured to support and reinforce the lateral parts of this upper bumper element, thus said elements molded together so as to be integrally formed further comprise a pair of upper lateral elements 33 intended to support the upper bumper skin part. This configuration is particularly remarkable in that the bumper skin reinforcement 1 has lateral parts extending above the front headlights of the vehicle. In this configuration, it is desirable for the reinforcement 1 to have control means at the level of the upper lateral elements 33 intended to cooperate with complementary means carried by the front headlights for its positioning.

[0068] According to a preferred embodiment, the bumper skin reinforcement 1 is made of a plastic or composite material. According to a preferred embodiment, the plastic material is selected from the group comprising polypropylene, polyamide, polyphthalamide, polyetheretherketone, polyphenylene sulfide, polyamide-imide, polyetherimide, polyarylamide, polyepoxide, unsaturated polyester, vinyl ester or polyester-vinyl ester resins. For example, the composite material comprises a matrix of a plastic material as described above with a reinforcement. For example, the reinforcement comprises glass or carbon fibers.

[0069] According to one embodiment, the bumper skin reinforcement 1 is made of a plastic or composite material with a plastic material matrix and a reinforcement, and the bumper skin reinforcement 1 comprises at least 10% by weight of recycled plastic material based on the total weight of the plastic material; preferably from 10 to 80% by weight; more preferably from 20 to 60% by weight or from 30 to 40% by weight. The use of recycled plastic material reduces the vehicle's ecological footprint.

[0070] Thus in the embodiment illustrated in [Fig.l], the bumper reinforcement 1 is molded in one piece and comprises a body 3, lateral extensions 5, means for holding the front headlight (not visible in [Fig.l]), rear support tabs (not visible in [Fig.l]), an upper plate 27, an upper grille 29, a central element 31 and upper lateral extensions 33.

[0071] In the embodiment illustrated in [Fig.2], the bumper reinforcement 1 is molded in one piece and comprises a body 3, lateral extensions 5, the fixing lugs 7 to the front headlight, means for holding the front headlight (not visible in [Fig.2]), rear support lugs (not visible in [Fig.2]), an upper plate 27, an upper grille 29, a central element 31 and upper lateral extensions 33.

[0072] Thus, the invention also relates to a method for manufacturing a bumper skin reinforcement as described above, remarkable in that it comprises a step of injection-molding said bumper skin reinforcement 1

[0073] The invention also relates to a method for mounting a vehicle according to the invention comprising the supply of a bumper skin reinforcement 1 and front headlights according to the invention, and the assembly of the bumper on the body of the vehicle by stapling the bumper skin reinforcement 1 on the front headlights and / or by pressing the holding elements of the lateral extensions 5 of the bumper skin reinforcement 1 on the complementary elements carried by the front headlights 13.
