[0018] The invention is described in connection with the orthonormal reference frame (X, Y, Z) illustrated in the Figures 1 and 6. Longitudinal direction X means a horizontal direction extending between the front and rear of the vehicle. Transverse direction Y means a horizontal direction, extending from one side of the vehicle to the other side of the vehicle. Vertical direction Z means the direction perpendicular to the longitudinal X and transverse Y directions.

[0019] In the following description, the spatial positioning indications such as behind, in front, up, down, front, rear, upper, lower, horizontal, vertical etc. are to be interpreted according to the usual position of use of a seat in a vehicle. More particularly, the orientations relating to the front and rear are relative to the usual position of use of a vehicle and to the usual position of a seat in a vehicle. The forward direction being the direction of a vehicle traveling forward.

[0020] An example of a seat assembly 2 according to the first embodiment is illustrated in [Fig.l]. It comprises a first rear seat 4 and a second rear seat 6. In the illustrated example, this seat assembly 2 is arranged in a second row of a motor vehicle 7. The first rear seat 4 is here located behind a driver's seat 8. The second rear seat 6 is here located behind a front passenger seat 10. According to another embodiment not illustrated in the application, the first rear seat could be located behind the driver's seat and the second rear seat could be located behind the front passenger seat. According to a variant not illustrated, the seat assembly 2 is arranged in a third row of a motor vehicle.

[0021] The set of seats 2, the driver's seat 8 and the front passenger seat 10 are intended to be mounted on a floor 11 of a vehicle.

[0022] In the embodiment shown, the first rear seat 4 is a bench seat intended for two occupants. Alternatively, this bench seat can be replaced by two seats.

[0023] The first rear seat 4 comprises a seat 12 and a backrest 14. The backrest 14 comprises a front face 16 intended to receive the back of an occupant, and a rear face 18 opposite the front face 16.

[0024] For the purposes of this description, a first transverse plane (Yl, Zl) is defined such that it is perpendicular to the longitudinal direction X of the vehicle illustrated in [Fig.l] and such that the first transverse plane (Yl, Zl) contains the front face 16 of the backrest 14 of the first seat 4. If the front face 16 of the backrest 14 of the first seat 4 is inclined towards the rear, the first transverse plane (Yl, Zl) is the plane containing the lower edge of the front face 16. For the purposes of this description, a second transverse plane (Y2, Z2) is also defined such that it is perpendicular to the longitudinal direction X of the vehicle and such that the second transverse plane (Y2, Z2) contains the rear face of the backrest 14 of the first seat 4. If the rear face 18 of the backrest 14 of the first seat 4 is inclined backwards, the second transverse plane (Y2, Z2) is the plane containing the upper edge of the rear face 18.

[0025] The vehicle 7 comprises a false floor 20 arranged behind the second transverse plane (Y2, Z2). In other words, the false floor 20 is arranged behind the first rear seat and the second rear seat. The false floor 20 delimits with the cabin a storage space 21 generally called a trunk.

[0026] The second rear seat 6 comprises a seat 22 and a backrest 24 shown schematically in [Fig.3].

[0027] The seat 22 comprises a base, a supporting structure carried by the base and a layer of foam fixed to the supporting structure.

[0028] The backrest 24 comprises a central support 26 and lateral uprights 28 carrying the central support. The central support 26 comprises a frame and a layer of foam fixed on the frame. The central support 26 is intended to receive the back of an occupant.

[0029] The seat 22 of the second rear seat is mounted to move in translation in the longitudinal direction X relative to the first rear seat 4. In other words, the seat 22 of the second rear seat is mounted to move in translation relative to the backrest 24 of the second seat in the longitudinal direction X.

[0030] For this purpose, the set of seats 2 comprises first slides 30 intended to be carried by the false floor 20. The first slides 30 extend in the longitudinal direction X. The first slides 30 have been illustrated schematically in [Fig. 3]. They each comprise a first slide element 32 secured to a base of the seat and a second slide element 34 intended to be carried by the false floor 20. The first slide element 32 is sliding relative to the second slide element 34.

[0031] The seat 22 of the second rear seat is thus adapted to slide between a position of use illustrated in solid lines in [Fig. 2] and a retracted position illustrated in dotted lines in [Fig. 2]. In the position of use illustrated in Figures 2 and 4, the backrest 14 of the second seat is aligned with the backrest 24 of the first seat in the transverse direction Y. This position corresponds to a usual position of a rear seat. In the retracted position illustrated in Figures 2 and 5, the seat 22 is arranged on the false floor 20, freeing up a space in the second row of seats. When the vehicle has a trunk bottom 35, the seat 22 is advantageously stored between the false floor 20 and the trunk bottom 35.

[0032] Thus, advantageously, the seat 22 of the second rear seat can be retracted to offer passengers more space. This space can be used either for storage or to free up space to move back and / or tilt the front seat (passenger and / or driver) more, when the latter is moved to a maximum rearward position.

[0033] Preferably, the backrest 24 of the second rear seat 6 is mounted to be movable in translation relative to the first rear seat 4, in the longitudinal direction X. For this purpose, the first slides 30 each comprise a third slide element 38 illustrated schematically in [Fig. 3]. The second slide element 34 is slidable relative to the third slide element 38 in the longitudinal direction X. The lower parts of the lateral uprights 28 of the seat backrest are integral with the second slide element 34. The lower part of the second slide element 34 extends over a length in the longitudinal direction X corresponding at least to the length of the movement stroke of the seat 22. The third slide element 34 has the shape of a rail. It is intended to be fixed to the false floor 20. The lateral uprights 28 of the backrest are arranged on either side of the seat 22.

[0034] The backrest 24 of the second rear seat is adapted to slide between a position of use illustrated in [Fig. 4] and a retracted (or set-back) position illustrated in [Fig. 5]. In the position of use, the backrest 24 of the second rear seat is aligned with the backrest 14 of the first rear seat 4 in the transverse direction Y. In the retracted position, the backrest of the second rear seat is located behind the second transverse plane (X2, Y2). Advantageously, the space generally occupied by the backrest of the second rear seat can be made available to passengers. Moving the backrest makes it possible to free up additional space as seen in [Fig. 5].

[0035] In this embodiment, the first slide elements 32 are driven in translation by a first actuator. The second slide elements 34 are driven in translation by a second actuator distinct from the first actuator.

[0036] According to an alternative embodiment not shown, the set of seats 2 comprises two pairs of first slides. The first slides each comprise a first slide element fixed to the base of the seat, and a second slide element intended to be fixed to the raised floor. The second slides each comprise a first slide element secured to the lower parts of the lateral uprights 28 and a second slide element intended to be fixed to the raised floor. The second slide elements of the first slides and the second slides have, for example, a rail shape. The first slides are arranged between the second slides. The lateral uprights 28 of the backrest are arranged on either side of the seat.

[0037] According to this variant, the first slide elements of the first slides are driven in translation by a first actuator. The first slide elements of the second slides are driven in translation by a second actuator distinct from the first actuator.

[0038] With reference to [Fig.l], the motor vehicle 7 further comprises first rails 40 carried by the floor 11 and extending in the longitudinal direction X. The front passenger seat 10 is slidably mounted on the first rails 40. The motor vehicle 7 further comprises a second rail 42 carried by the floor 11 and extending in the longitudinal direction X and an armrest 44 comprising at least one slider sliding in said second rail 42.

[0039] The second rail 42 is fixed to the floor between the driver's seat 8 and the passenger seat 10. The front passenger seat 10 and the armrest 44 can advantageously be moved rearward, when the backrest and the seat base of the rear seat are in a retracted position.

[0040] An example of a seat assembly 46 according to a second embodiment is illustrated in [Fig.7]. This seat assembly 46 is intended to be mounted in a vehicle 49 of the MPV or SUV type (Sport Utility Vehicle). In this type of vehicle, the false floor 20 is arranged at the same height and in continuity with the floor 11.

[0041] The technical elements of the second embodiment which are identical or similar to the technical elements of the first embodiment bear the same references and will not be described a second time.

[0042] The seat assembly 46 comprises a first rear seat 4 and a second rear seat 48. The second rear seat 48 comprises a seat 50 and a backrest 52. The first rear seat 4 and the second rear seat 48 are carried by the floor 11.

[0043] The second rear seat 48 is adapted to slide relative to the first rear seat 4 in a longitudinal direction X of the vehicle. The encroachment of the seat 50 of the second rear seat comprises sliders 56 sliding in the first rails 54. The encroachment of the seat 50 of the second rear seat comprises two slots 58 extending in the longitudinal direction X. The backrest 52 of the second rear seat comprises a central support 60 intended to receive the back of an occupant, and lateral uprights 62 carrying the central support. The lower part of the lateral uprights comprises sliders 64 arranged in the slots 58 of the seat of the second seat.In this embodiment, the same actuator can be used to move the seat 50 and the backrest 52. A stop 63 fixed to the side walls of the trunk makes it possible to maintain the seatback in front of the slots 58.

[0044] In a retracted position shown in dotted lines in [Fig.7], the seat 50 and the backrest 52 are housed behind the second transverse plane (Y2, Z2) in a space generally dedicated to storing objects.

[0045] In this embodiment, the front passenger seat 10 is mounted to slide in the first rails 54. For this purpose, the encroachment of the seat of the front passenger seat 10 comprises sliders sliding in the first rails 54.

[0046] According to a variant not shown, the second seat is arranged behind the driver's seat. According to this variant, the first two rails 54 are fixed on the side of the driver's seat and the driver's seat is slidably mounted on the first two rails 54. The second seat is slidably mounted on the same two first rails 54.

[0047] Preferably, the front driver's seat 8 or passenger seat 10 is able to slide on the first rails 54 to a position in which the front seat 8, 10 is aligned with the first rear seat 4. The backrest 22 and the seat 24 of the second rear seat are then in the retracted position to allow the front seat to be positioned in the usual place of the rear seat.

[0048] If the backrest and / or the seat of the first rear seat 4 are also movable in translation between a position of use and a retracted position, the seat of the second rear seat is mounted movable in translation relative to the first rear seat considered in its position of use. The position of use is the conventional position of a seat on which an occupant can sit. In the same way, if the backrest and / or the seat of the first rear seat 4 are also movable in translation between a position of use and a retracted position, the backrest of the second rear seat is mounted movable in translation relative to the first rear seat in its position of use.
