Abstract

TWO-STEP CLEANSING PROCESS A two-step process for removing makeup from the skin is described. The process includes applying a first anhydrous composition to the skin on which makeup is present, and then applying a second anhydrous composition to the skin on which both the makeup and the first anhydrous composition are present. The first anhydrous composition includes: (a) a hydrophobic polymer formed as a reaction product of a natural or food-grade oil and a methacrylate or acrylate polymer; (b) one or more solvents capable of solubilizing the hydrophobic polymer of (a); and (c) optionally, one or more alkanes. The second anhydrous composition includes one or more nonpolar oils in which the hydrophobic polymer of the first anhydrous composition is insoluble. Figure for abstract: none

[0147] An implementation of the present disclosure is provided by means of the following examples. These examples serve to illustrate the technology without being limiting in nature. Example 1 Solubility tests

[0148] Tests were conducted to establish the solubility of MycelX® in various solvent mixtures of polycitronellol acetate and squalane. To determine how solvent mixtures influence the solubility of MycelX®, MycelX® was initially dissolved in polycitronellol acetate to form a clear solution. Squalane was then added to the solution in varying amounts to assess how the addition of a non-polar oil influences the solubility of the MycelX®. When polycitronellol acetate and squalane were combined in a weight ratio of 80 / 20 (MycelX®:squalane), MycelX® was soluble in all quantities tested, i.e., 30% by weight, 40% by weight, 50% by weight, and 60% by weight. When polycitronellol acetate and squalane were combined in a weight ratio of 65:35 (polycitronellol acetate:squalane), the combination solubilized 10% by weight of MycelX® but only partially solubilized 20% by weight of MycelX®. At 20% by weight of MycelX®, the mixture became cloudy (loss of transparency), indicating a degree of precipitation. At 30 and 40% by weight of MycelX®, the MycelX® precipitated, resulting in a cloudy, yellow mixture, which contained MycelX® particles. The results are summarized in the table below.

[0149] [Tables4] Solubility of MycelX ® MycelX® / Squalane ratio (% by weight) 80 / 20 65 / 35 50 / 50 15 / 85 MYCE LEX® (% by weight) 60 Soluble 50 Soluble Not soluble 40 Soluble Not soluble Not soluble Not soluble 30 Soluble Not soluble Not soluble Not soluble 20 Partially soluble Not soluble Not soluble 10 Soluble Not soluble Example 2 Scrubbing studies

[0183] The foregoing description illustrates and describes the disclosure. Furthermore, the disclosure shows and describes only the preferred embodiments. However, as mentioned above, it is to be understood that it is capable of use in various other combinations, modifications, and environments and is capable of changes or modifications within the scope of the inventive concepts as expressed herein, consistent with the above teachings and / or the skill or knowledge of the relevant art. The embodiments described herein are further intended to explain the best modes known to the applicant and to enable others skilled in the art to use the disclosure in such or other embodiments and with the various modifications required by the particular applications or uses thereof. Accordingly, the description is not intended to limit the invention to the form disclosed herein.

[0184] As used herein, the terms "comprising," "having," and "including" are used in their broad and non-limiting sense.

[0185] Thus, the phrase "a mixture thereof" also relates to "mixtures thereof." Throughout the disclosure, the phrase "a mixture thereof" is used, after a list of elements as shown in the following example where the letters A to F represent the elements: "one or more elements selected from the group consisting of A, B, C, D, E, F, and a mixture thereof." The phrase "a mixture thereof" does not require that the mixture include all of A, B, C, D, E, and F (although all of A, B, C, D, E, and F may be included). Rather, it indicates that a mixture of two or more of A, B, C, D, E, and F may be included. In other words, it is equivalent to the phrase "one or more elements selected from the group consisting of A, B, C, D, E, F, and a mixture of two or more of A, B, C, D, E, and F."

[0186] Similarly, the expression "a salt thereof" also relates to "salts thereof". Thus, when the disclosure refers to "an element selected from the group consisting of A, B, C, D, E, F, a salt thereof, and a mixture thereof", it indicates that one or more of A, B, C, D and F may be included, one or more of a salt of A, a salt of B, a salt of C, a salt of D, a salt of E and a salt of F may be included, or a mixture of any two of A, B, C, D, E, F, a salt of A, a salt of B, a salt of C, a salt of D, a salt of E and a salt of F may be included.

[0187] Salts referred to throughout the disclosure may include salts having a counterion such as an alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, or ammonium counterion. This list of counterions, however, is not limiting. Suitable counterions for the components described herein are known in the art.

[0188] The term "transparent" with respect to a transparent composition indicates that the composition has a transmittance of at least 80% at a wavelength of 600 nm, measured, for example, using a Lambda 40 UV-visible spectrometer. The compositions may have, for example, a transmittance of at least 80%, at least 90%, or at least 95% at a wavelength of 600 nm, measured, for example, using a Lambda 40 UV-visible spectrometer. The term "clear" is interchangeable with the term "transparent" for the purposes of this disclosure.

[0189] The term "translucent" in relation to a translucent composition indicates that the composition has a transmittance of at least 50% at a wavelength of 600 nm, measured for example using a Lambda 40 UV-visible spectrometer.

[0190] All percentages, parts and ratios herein are based on the total weight of the compositions of the present invention, unless otherwise indicated.

[0191] Some of the various categories of components identified may overlap. In such cases where an overlap may exist and the composition includes both components (or the composition includes more than two overlapping components), an overlapping compound does not represent more than one component. For example, some compounds may be considered both an oily solvent and a surfactant. If a particular composition includes both an oily component and a surfactant, a single compound will serve solely as the oily component or solely as the surfactant (the single compound does not simultaneously serve as both the oily component and the surfactant).

[0192] All ranges and values disclosed herein are inclusive and combinable. For example, any value or point described herein that falls within a range described herein may serve as a minimum or maximum value to derive a subrange, etc.

[0193] The term "substantially free" or "essentially free" as used herein means that there is less than about 2% by weight of a specific material added to a composition, based on the total weight of the compositions. However, the compositions may include less than about 1% by weight, less than about 0.5% by weight, less than about 0.1% by weight, or none of the specified material. For example, if a composition is essentially free of compound X, the composition includes less than 2% by weight of compound X, or less than 1% by weight of compound X, or less than 0.5% by weight of compound X, or less than 0.1% by weight of compound X, or is free of compound X.

[0194] Any components positively presented in the present disclosure may be negatively excluded from the claims, for example, a claimed composition may be "free", "essentially free" (or "substantially free") of one or more components that are positively presented in the present disclosure.
