Description

Title of the invention: Cosmetic composition intended to immediately improve the appearance of the skin. SCOPE OF DISCLOSURE

[0001] This disclosure relates to a cosmetic composition which, upon application to the skin, immediately smooths and firms the skin. It also relates to processes for improving the appearance of the skin. CONTEXT

[0002] The skin acts as a natural barrier between the internal and external environments and therefore plays an important role in vital biological functions. It also provides protection against mechanical and chemical injuries, microorganisms, and damage caused by ultraviolet radiation. However, the health and appearance of the skin can deteriorate due to environmental factors, genetic makeup, nutrition, and sun exposure. With age, the outermost layer of the skin (epidermis) thins, even though the number of cell layers remains unchanged. The skin may appear pale and / or develop pigment spots (age spots, liver spots, or lentigines). Changes in the connective tissue reduce the skin's strength and elasticity. This is called elastosis. It is more noticeable in areas exposed to the sun (solar elastosis).

[0003] The skin produces less collagen and elastin as it ages. For example, after the age of twenty, a person produces approximately 1% less collagen in their skin each year. As a result, the skin becomes thinner and more fragile. Inevitably, wrinkles, crow's feet, age spots, under-eye bags, etc., begin to form. In addition, many individuals suffer from scars or other skin aberrations. Consumers often wish to improve the appearance of these age-related imperfections, preferably with instant results. Numerous consumer products and procedures dedicated to concealing and reducing wrinkles are available. Some products and procedures are simple and inexpensive, for example, applying makeup, especially a makeup base or tinted foundation, to cover the skin (and thus cover and / or fill wrinkles and give a smoother appearance). Much more expensive and drastic procedures, such as surgical rhytidectomies and Botox® injections, are also used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. However, many consumers cannot afford such drastic cosmetic procedures or do not wish to undergo them. Submit. There are several lotions and creams formulated to hydrate the skin and make it more supple, thus reducing the appearance of wrinkles. Some of these products contain active ingredients, for example, that help repair and rejuvenate the skin over time. Unfortunately, many of these types of products suffer from various drawbacks.

[0004] Makeup products are often visible, offer minimal textural benefits, and have no lasting effect on the skin. After makeup removal, the skin is the same as before the makeup was applied. Common skincare products can have chronic, acute, or both effects on the skin. Hydration and optical effects are common acute benefits, but these benefits fade rapidly over time. Products that may improve skin health over time have little or no immediate effect on its appearance. DISCLOSURE SUMMARY

[0005] This disclosure relates to a cosmetic composition that provides an immediate and dramatic skin-smoothing and firming effect when applied to the skin. Applying the cosmetic composition to the skin improves its appearance by reducing the appearance of wrinkles, eliminating under-eye bags, minimizing pores, and diminishing skin imperfections such as scars and uneven skin tone. It also provides a radiant appearance.

[0006] The cosmetic composition includes a unique combination of hydrophobic and hydrophilic film-forming polymers that work together to provide a rapid firming effect. The volatile hydrocarbon oils in the cosmetic composition evaporate, and the water in the cosmetic composition hydrates the skin. In addition, the cosmetic composition includes discrete wax particles dispersed throughout the composition, which are independent and distinct from the separate oil phase dispersed throughout the aqueous carrier phase. The cosmetic composition is not a typical oil-in-water emulsion because it includes three distinct phases: an aqueous phase, which serves as the carrier phase; an oil phase of droplets dispersed throughout the aqueous phase, like a typical oil-in-water emulsion; and a wax phase composed of discrete wax particles dispersed throughout the aqueous carrier phase. The wax particles are dispersed separately from the oil phase. Thus, the cosmetic composition can be designated as an "oil / oil-in-water (O / W) emulsion" or an "oil / wax emulsion in water" considering that it has two distinct oily phases, an oily phase and a waxy phase, both dispersed independently through the aqueous carrier phase.

[0007] The cosmetic composition typically includes: a. an aqueous carrier phase comprising: i. one or more hydrophilic film-forming polymers; ii. one or more water-soluble solvents; and iii. water; b. an oily phase dispersed through the aqueous carrier phase, wherein the oily phase comprises: i. one or more hydrophobic film-forming polymers; and ii. one or more volatile hydrocarbon oils; c. one or more emulsifiers; d. discrete wax particles dispersed throughout the aqueous carrier phase; and e. Optionally, one or more soft focus (artistic blur) powders.

[0008] Non-limiting examples of hydrophilic film-forming polymers include polyvinylpyrrolidone, polyvinylpyrrolidone copolymers, carboxylic acid or carboxylate-based homopolymers or copolymers, saccharide-based polymers, non-saccharide-based polymers, or combinations thereof. Preferably, at least one or more hydrophilic film-forming polymers are selected from polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and vinylpyrrolidone copolymers chosen from polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) / vinyl acetate copolymer (PVP / VA copolymer), polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) / eicosene copolymer, PVP / hexadecene copolymer, VP / methacrylamide / vinyl imidazole copolymer, or combinations thereof.

[0009] Non-limiting examples of water-soluble solvents include glycerin, C2-C6 monoalcohols, polyols, glycols, or combinations thereof, such as ethanol, isopropanol, β-butyl alcohol, ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, butylene glycol, pentylene glycol, dipropylene glycol, glycerin, or combinations thereof. In a preferred embodiment, one or more of the water-soluble solvents is ethanol.

[0010] Non-limiting examples of hydrophobic film-forming polymers include polyacrylic acids and polyacrylic acid esters, polymethacrylic acid and polymethacrylic acid esters, polyalkylene oxides, such as polyethylene oxide, vinyl polyacetates, vinyl polyalcohols, vinyl polyacetate phthalates (PVAP), vinyl polyacetate copolymers, polycrotonic acids, pullulan and pullulan compounds such as trialkylsiloxysilylcarbamoyl pullulane compounds in which the alkyl group comprises 1 to 6 carbon atoms, or combinations thereof. In a preferred embodiment, at least one of the one or more hydrophobic film-forming polymers is a trialkylsiloxysilylcarbamoyl pullulane compound with an alkyl group comprising 1 to 6 carbon atoms, preferably trimethylsiloxysilylcarbamoyl pullulane.

[0011] Non-limiting examples of volatile hydrocarbon oils include polyisobutene, isoparaffin, isohexadecane, isododecane, isodecane, isohexane, undecane, tridecane, dodecane, or combinations thereof.

[0012] Non-limiting examples of emulsifiers include polyglycerol-based emulsifiers, sorbitan fatty esters, sugar fatty esters, polyol fatty esters, their ethoxylates, or combinations thereof. In various embodiments, the cosmetic composition includes one or more nonionic emulsifiers, one or more polymer emulsifiers, or a combination thereof. Preferably, at least one of the one or more emulsifiers is a polymer emulsifier. Non-limiting examples include poloxamers (ethoxylated sorbitan), alkyl and polyalkyl poly(ethylene oxide) ethers, taurate copolymers, or combinations thereof.

[0013] The one or more wax particles are typically formed from waxes having a melting point of at least 50 °C. This ensures that the wax particles do not melt and accidentally fuse with the oil phase of the cosmetic composition. Non-limiting examples of waxes include beeswax, hydrogenated myristyl olive esters, hydrogenated stearyl olive esters, rice bran wax, candelilla wax, carnauba wax, Montan wax, Japanese wax, spermaceti, ozokerite wax, sunflower wax, or combinations thereof. Preferably, the particle size (or average number particle size) is about 1 to about 50 pm, more preferably about 1 to about 20 pm.

[0014] The cosmetic composition may include one or more soft-focus powders, one or more pigments, or combinations thereof. Non-limiting examples of soft-focus powders include talc, mica, titanium mica, alumina, aluminum silicate, silica, fumed silica, silica silylate, polyamide, poly(methyl(meth)acrylate), polyethylene, polymethylsilsesquioxane, nylon-12, cellulose, polylactic acid, or combinations thereof. [0015] The cosmetic composition is particularly useful in processes for improving the appearance of the skin, especially facial skin. The process involves applying an effective amount of the cosmetic composition to the skin, for example, the face. For example, the cosmetic composition can be applied to the skin with the hands or using an applicator. Upon application of the cosmetic composition to the skin, the composition imparts smoothing and blurring effects to the skin, while also immediately providing a firming effect. Consequently, the cosmetic composition is useful in processes for smoothing the skin, processes for firming the skin, and processes for covering or concealing a skin imperfection. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE DISCLOSURE

[0016] The cosmetic composition provides immediate smoothing, firming, and blurring effects upon application to the skin, which is particularly useful for improving the skin's appearance. The blurring effects mask imperfections and give the skin a uniform and radiant appearance. The firming effects eliminate wrinkles and under-eye bags, and provide a youthful complexion. The cosmetic compositions may include one or more soft-focus powders, which contribute to the smoothing and blurring effects of the composition. In addition, the cosmetic composition includes discreet wax particles, which the inventors have found surprisingly effective in reducing wrinkles or enhancing wrinkle reduction, for example, by filling in wrinkles. Furthermore, the wax particles simultaneously improve the mechanical properties of the composition, such as its firming, adhesion, and hold effects.Instead of disrupting the mechanical properties necessary to achieve a skin-firming and perfecting composition, the inclusion of the discreet wax particles surprisingly enhanced these properties. The effect was the opposite of what was expected.

[0017] The cosmetic composition typically includes: a. an aqueous carrier phase comprising: i. of about 1 to about 8% by weight of one or more hydrophilic film-forming polymers; ii. approximately 1 to approximately 25% by weight of one or more water-soluble solvents; and iii. of approximately 40 to approximately 80% by weight of water; b. an oily phase dispersed through the aqueous carrier phase, the oily phase comprising: i. approximately 1 to approximately 8% by weight of one or more hydrophilic film-forming polymers; and ii. of about 1 to about 15% by weight of one or more volatile hydrocarbon oils; a. of about 0.5 to about 5% by weight of one or more emulsifiers; b. approximately 1 to approximately 10% by weight of discrete wax particles; and c. optionally, one or more soft focus powders, one or more pigments, or combinations thereof;

[0018] in which all percentages by weight are based on a total weight of the composition.

[0019] As shown above, the cosmetic composition includes both hydrophobic and hydrophilic film-forming polymers in different phases of the composition. These film-forming polymers work together to form a durable film on the skin that undergoes an immediate firming effect upon application. During application to the skin, the volatile hydrocarbon oils of the cosmetic composition evaporate as the composition dries. Some of the water in the cosmetic composition may also evaporate, but some of the water remains available to provide a moisturizing effect to the skin.

[0020] The cosmetic composition differs from a typical oil-in-water emulsion in which a single oil phase is dispersed through a single aqueous carrier phase, because the cosmetic composition of the present invention includes discrete wax particles that are independent of the oil phase. Thus, the cosmetic composition comprises three distinct phases: (i) an aqueous phase, which serves as the carrier phase; (ii) an oil phase dispersed through the aqueous phase, typically in the form of oil droplets; and a wax phase consisting of discrete wax particles dispersed through the aqueous carrier phase. The oil droplets dispersed through the composition and the wax particles dispersed through the composition are distinct from one another. Therefore, for the purposes of this disclosure, the cosmetic composition may be referred to as an "oil / oil in water (O / W / W) emulsion" or a "wax / oil in water emulsion".

[0021] It is particularly advantageous for the wax particles to be dispersed independently throughout the aqueous carrier phase. The inventors discovered that if the wax particles are loaded into the oil phase, they dissolve in the oil phase, resulting in a single oil phase free of wax particles. An identical composition with the wax particles dissolved in the oil phase becomes too thick—the viscosity cannot be accurately measured. and the composition cannot be applied to the skin. Having discrete particles dispersed throughout the aqueous carrier phase, independently of the oily phase, allows for the incorporation of a much larger quantity of wax (in the form of discrete particles) into the composition, resulting in favorable aesthetic and mechanical properties. (a) Aqueous phase

[0022] The aqueous phase includes water and ingredients solubilized in water.

[0023] The total amount of aqueous carrier phase in the cosmetic composition will vary but is typically about 55 to about 90% by weight, relative to the total weight of the cosmetic composition. In other embodiments, the cosmetic composition includes about 60 to about 90% by weight, about 65 to about 90% by weight, about 70 to about 90% by weight, about 75 to about 90% by weight, about 55 to about 85% by weight, about 60 to about 85% by weight, about 65 to about 85% by weight, about 70 to about 85% by weight, about 75 to about 85% by weight of the aqueous carrier phase, relative to the total weight of the cosmetic composition. Preferably, the cosmetic composition includes about 60 to about 90% by weight, preferably about 70 to about 90% by weight, and more preferably about 75 to about 85% by weight of aqueous carrier phase, relative to the total weight of the cosmetic composition.

(1 atm), and which, when added in an amount of at least 1% by weight to water at 25 °C, is not soluble in water or is soluble only at a level of 10% by weight or less, relative to the weight of the oil added to the water. The term "hydrocarbon oil" is an oil comprising hydrogen and carbon atoms, which does not contain silicon atoms.

[0058] Examples of volatile hydrocarbon oils include, in particular, those having 8 to 16 carbon atoms and their combinations, and especially C8-Ci6 branched alkanes such as C8-Ci6 isoalkanes (also known as isoparaffins), isododecane, isodecane, isohexadecane, and, for example, oils sold under the brand names Isopar or Permethyl; C8-Ci6 branched esters such as isohexyl or isodecyl neopentanoate; and their combinations. Preferably, volatile hydrocarbon oils have a flash point below 60 °C.

[0059] Non-limiting examples of volatile hydrocarbon oils include isoparaffin, isohexadecane, isododecane, isohexane, undecane, tridecane, dodecane, a Cb-Cm isoalkane, or combinations thereof. Preferably, at least one or more of the volatile hydrocarbon oils is isododecane, isohexadecane, a C13-C14 isoalkane, or combinations thereof.

In other embodiments, The weight ratio (b)(i) to (b)(ii) is approximately 1:1 to approximately 1:8, preferably approximately 1:1.5 to approximately 1:6, and more preferably approximately 1:2 to approximately 1:6. (c) Emulsifiers

[0063] The cosmetic composition includes one or more emulsifiers. Emulsifiers include polymer and non-polymer emulsifiers. Furthermore, emulsifiers may be non-ionic, anionic, amphoteric, or a combination thereof. Cationic emulsifiers may also be useful, but generally, non-ionic and anionic emulsifiers are preferred.

[0064] In a preferred embodiment, the cosmetic composition includes one or more polymer emulsifiers, one or more non-ionic emulsifiers, or one of their combinations.

[0065] Non-limiting examples of polymer emulsifiers include poloxamers, alkoxylated surfactants, polyacrylamide, acryloyldimethyltaurate polymers, or combinations thereof. As their name suggests, polymer emulsifiers provide emulsifying properties to the cosmetic composition. However, in some cases, in addition to their emulsifying properties, polymer emulsifiers have an additional influence on other characteristics of the cosmetic composition; for example, polymer emulsifiers can thicken the cosmetic composition, i.e., act as a thickening agent by increasing the viscosity of the cosmetic composition. In some cases, a polymer emulsifier may have film-forming properties in addition to its emulsifying properties. In cases where a polymer emulsifier also provides thickening or behaves as a film-forming polymer, only one compound (one polymer / copolymer) will serve solely as either a polymer emulsifier or a film-forming polymer. A single compound (one polymer / copolymer) cannot simultaneously serve as both a polymer emulsifier and a film-forming polymer when the cosmetic composition includes both a polymer emulsifier and a film-forming polymer.

Poloxamer emulsifiers include nonionic triblock copolymers such as polyethylene oxide-oxypropylene oxide-oxyethylene oxide (PEO-PPO-PEO) characterized by a central hydrophobic polyoxypropylene chain flanked by two hydrophilic polyoxyethylene chains. Examples of nonionic triblock copolymers may include a structure according to formula (A): (HAS)

[0067] wherein each a is independently an integer in the range of 2-130, and b is an integer in the range of 15-67. In some embodiments, a is in the range of 50-100 and b is in the range of 20-40. In some embodiments, a is in the range of 70-90 and b is in the range of 25-30. Non-limiting examples of poloxamers include poloxamer 188, also known as Pluronic® F-68, or KOLLIPHOR® P188, for example, in which a=80 and b=27. Other poloxamers include poloxamer 338, also known as Synperonic® PE / F108, poloxamer 407, also known as Synperonic® PE / F127, poloxamer 331, also known as Synperonic® PE / L101.

[0070] The lengths of the polymer blocks can be customized, and consequently, there are many different poloxamers with slightly different properties. Poloxamer copolymers are commonly designated with the letter "P" (for poloxamer) followed by three digits. The first two digits multiplied by 100 give the approximate molecular mass of the polyoxypropylene core, and the last digit multiplied by 10 gives the percentage of polyoxyethylene content (e.g., P407 = Poloxamer with a polyoxypropylene molecular mass of 4,000 g / mol and a polyoxyethylene content of 70%). For the trade names Pluronic® and Synperonic® poloxamers, the coding of these copolymers begins with a letter to define their physical form at room temperature (L = liquid, P = paste, F = flake (solid)) followed by two or three digits. The first digit (two digits in a three-digit number) of the numerical designation, multiplied by 300, indicates the approximate molecular weight of the hydrophobic chain; and the last digit, multiplied by 10, gives the percentage of polyoxyethylene content (for example, F-68 indicates a polyoxypropylene molecular weight of 1800 g / mol and a polyoxyethylene content of 80%). An example of a poloxamer is Pluronic F-68®. PF-68 is a nonionic triblock copolymer of polyoxyethylene oxide-polyoxypropylene oxide-polyoxyethylene oxide (PEO-PPO-PEO). Commercially available poloxamers include PLURONIC® emulsifiers such as PLURONIC® F68, F77, F87, F98, F108, F127, P103, P104, P105, and P123.

[0109] Particle size can be measured using various techniques, including the use of a sieve, light scattering techniques (dynamic and static), Coulter capture techniques, measurements of the settling velocity (related to size via Stokes' law), and microscopy. These techniques allow the measurement of particle diameter and, for some particles, particle size distribution. In particular, the particle sizes and particle size distributions of wax particles can be measured by static light scattering using a commercially available particle size analyzer such as the Malvern MasterSizer 2000. The data are processed based on the scattering theory of Mie. This theory, which is exact for isotropic particles, allows us to determine, in the case of non-spherical particles, an "effective" particle diameter. This theory is notably described in the publication by Van de Hulst, HC, "Light Scattering by Small Particles", Chapters 9 and 10, Wiley, New York, 1957.

(e) Soft focus powder

[0111] The cosmetic composition may include one or more soft-focus powders. Soft-focus powders are materials that provide a blurring effect, typically due to their light-diffusing properties on the skin. These powders generally have high diffuse reflectance, low specular reflectance, and high diffuse transmittance. Soft-focus powders give the skin a smoother appearance, for example, by reducing the difference in brightness between the hollows and edges of wrinkles and imperfections. For the purposes of this disclosure, the wax particles described above are independent and distinct from the soft-focus powders.

[0112] Non-limiting examples of soft-focus powders include powders of natural or synthetic origin such as mica, titanium mica, alumina, titanium dioxide, serecite, talc / titanium dioxide / alumina / silica composite powders, polyamide, poly(meth)acrylate (methyl methacrylate), polyethylene powder, polymethylsilsesquioxane powder, sodium acrylate crosslinked polymer-2, and combinations thereof. Other non-limiting examples include calcium aluminum borosilicate (LUXSIL®), PMMA (Microsphere M-100), polyethylene (POLYETHYLENE Cl 2080), and methyl methacrylate crosslinked polymer. (COVABEADS LH85), nylon-12 (ORGASOL 2002) or ethylene / acrylic acid copolymer (FLOBEADS EA209).

Different compounds serve as both pigments and soft-focus powders, and there is therefore some overlap between the description of pigments and that of soft-focus powders. However, when the cosmetic composition requires both a soft-focus powder and a pigment, a single compound does not serve as both a soft-focus powder and a pigment. It must be interpreted as one or the other.

Example 2 Performance evaluation

[0137] The inventive compositions C, E, and F were evaluated and compared to two commercially available reference products, which are advertised as skin-smoothing compositions that diminish fine lines, wrinkles, and pores, and smooth uneven skin textures. Equal amounts of each composition (10 mg / cm²) were applied to a stretchable substrate (2"xl cut Supplale® substrate strips) and left to dry overnight. The cosmetic compositions were applied to a wet thickness of approximately 2 mm. The samples were then evaluated for internal stress and cracking. Internal stress was determined by comparing the two-dimensional surface area of the coated Supplale® substrate strips to a blank Supplale® substrate strip. Internal stress is represented as a percentage reduction in the two-dimensional surface area. Cracking was assessed after stretching the coated strips. The coated strips were stretched to 25% of their original length in the stretching direction. The degree of cracking was visually assessed and graded on a scale of 0 to 5, where 0 represents no cracking and 5 represents more significant cracking. The results are presented in the table below.

[0138] [Tables2] Composition Internal stress (%) Cracking (score) Inventive C 37.3 5 Inventive E 24.3 2 Inventive F 37.9 5 Commercial reference 1 0 0 Commercial reference 2 0 4

[0139] The data show that, unlike the two commercial reference products, the inventive compositions provide a significant "strengthening" effect. This is illustrated by the internal stress data. Commercial reference 1 did not exhibit cracking during stretching. Commercial reference 2, however, did exhibit cracking, even though it did not provide any strengthening. Strengthening is associated with cracking; that is, the more a composition strengthens and contracts, the more likely it is to crack when stretched. This is illustrated by the data for inventive compositions C, E, and F. Inventive compositions C and F, which exhibit the highest internal stress values (illustrating the greatest strengthening), also exhibited the most cracking.Inventive composition D, having a lower percentage of internal stress, exhibited less cracking. Ideally, the cosmetic composition should provide significant firming without an unacceptable degree of cracking when stretched. This is the case for inventive compositions C, E, and F. The inventive compositions provide significant firming. They exhibit cracking when stretched, but the degree of cracking is acceptable, as illustrated by commercial reference 2, which exhibited cracking even though it did not provide a firming effect. [0142] The comparative composition Cl is similar to the inventive composition F of Example 1 but does not include the discrete wax particles. Internal stresses and cracking were evaluated as described in Example 2. The results are presented in the table below.

[0143] [Tables4] Composition Internal stress (%) Cracking (score) Inventive F 37.9 5 Comparative composition Cl 1.1 1

[0144] The data show that the comparative composition Cl, in the absence of discrete wax particles, did not provide firming / contraction.

[0145] The term “polymer”, as used throughout the disclosure, is a generic term which includes both homopolymers and copolymers.

[0146] The expressions throughout the disclosure that refer to the cosmetic composition that confers or provides "an immediate skin-tightening effect" or "an instant skin-tightening effect" mean that, when a layer of the cosmetic composition is applied to the skin or a substrate (applied with a wet thickness of approximately 2 mm) under ambient conditions (approximately 25 °C), the cosmetic composition firms or contracts as it dries on the skin or substrate. The firming or contraction (visible to the naked eye or felt on the skin) is observed from approximately 5 minutes. Thus, the expressions "immediate skin-firming effect" or "instant skin-firming effect" mean that when a layer of the cosmetic composition with a wet thickness of approximately 2 mm is applied to a substrate under ambient conditions, observable firming or tightening is perceptible visually or sensorially within 5 minutes. Furthermore, firming or tightening can be quantified and defined as a measured internal stress of 8% or more.

[0147] The term "oil-in-water emulsion" or "O / W / E emulsion" is interchangeable with the terms "wax-in-water emulsion" and "wax particles / oil-in-water emulsion" and refers to a composition having three distinct phases: an aqueous carrier phase; an oily phase of droplets dispersed throughout the aqueous phase; and a waxy phase of discrete wax particles dispersed throughout the aqueous carrier phase. The composition is like a typical oil-in-water emulsion with respect to the oily and aqueous carrier phases, but differs in that the discrete wax particles are also dispersed separately throughout the aqueous carrier phase.

[0148] The term "emulsifier" (and "surfactant") includes salts of the surfactant, to the extent that they exist, even if not explicitly stated. In other words, whenever the disclosure refers to an emulsifier (or surfactants), it is understood that salts of the surfactants are also encompassed to the extent that they exist, even if the patent memorandum may not specifically refer to a salt (or may not refer to a salt in all instances throughout the disclosure), for example, by using a phrase such as "one of its (their) salts" or "its (their) salts." Sodium and potassium are common cations that form salts with emulsifiers / surfactants. However, additional cations such as ammonium ions, or alkanolammonium ions such as monoethanolammonium or triethanolammonium ions, can also form emulsifier and surfactant salts.

[0149] In the context of this disclosure, a "composition colorant" is a compound that colors the composition but does not have an appreciable coloring effect on hair. In other words, the composition colorant is included to give the composition color for aesthetic purposes but is not intended to impart coloring properties to hair. Hair gels, for example, may come in a variety of different colors (e.g., light blue, light pink, etc.), but applying the hair gel to the hair does not visibly change the hair color.

[0150] The expression "one or more" means "at least one" and therefore includes individual components as well as mixtures / combinations.

[0151] The term "plurality" means "more than one" or "two or more."

[0152] Except in operational examples, or unless otherwise indicated, all numbers In all cases, quantities of ingredients and / or reaction conditions can be modified by the term "approximately," meaning within + / - 10% of the stated number. For example, a quantity of "approximately 1 by weight" can include a quantity as low as 0.90% by weight or as high as 1.1. Similarly, a The quantity of "approximately 50" may include an amount as low as 45% by weight and as high as 55% by weight.

[0153] Some of the various ingredient categories identified for the cosmetic composition overlap. In cases where an overlap may exist and the cosmetic composition includes an overlapping ingredient (or more than one overlapping ingredient), an overlapping ingredient does not represent more than one claimed component. For example, titanium dioxide can be interpreted as both a "soft-focus powder" and a "pigment." If a claimed cosmetic composition requires both a soft-focus powder and a pigment, titanium dioxide will serve only as a soft-focus powder or only as a pigment. Titanium dioxide does not qualify as both a soft-focus powder and a pigment.

[0154] All percentages, parts and ratios herein are based on the total weight of the compositions of the present invention, unless otherwise stated.

[0155] All ranges and values disclosed herein are inclusive and combinable. For example, any value or point described herein that falls within a range described herein can serve as a minimum or maximum value for deducing a subrange, and so on. Furthermore, all ranges provided are intended to include each specific range within the given ranges, and a combination of intermediate subranges of the given ranges. Thus, a range of 1 to 5 specifically includes 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, as well as subranges such as 2 to 5, 3 to 5, 2 to 3, 2 to 4, 1 to 4, and so on.

[0156] All components positively presented in this disclosure may be negatively excluded from the claims and the compositions and processes described throughout this disclosure. In other words, the cleaning compositions of this disclosure may be free or substantially free of one or more of the components positively presented in this disclosure for possible inclusion in the cleaning compositions.

[0157] The expression "substantially free" or "essentially free" as used herein means that the specific material may be present in small amounts that do not materially affect the basic and innovative features of the claimed invention. For example, less than 1% by weight of a specific material may be added to a composition, relative to the total weight of the composition (provided that an amount of 1% by weight or less does not materially affect the basic and innovative features of the claimed invention). Similarly, where a composition is essentially free of a particular element, the composition may include 1% by weight or less, 0.5% by weight or less, 0.1% by weight or less, 0.05% by weight or less, or 0.01% by weight or less, or no amount of the specified material. For example, if a composition is "substantially free" or "essentially free" of ethanol, the composition The composition may optionally include ethanol in an amount of up to 1% by weight, relative to the total weight of the composition, provided that 1% by weight does not materially affect the basic and innovative characteristics of the composition. In addition, the composition may optionally include 0.5% by weight or less, 0.1% by weight or less, 0.05% by weight or less, 0.01% by weight or less, or no ethanol.
