Abstract

A fuse system 100 for a munition 200 comprising an impact sensor arrangement 110 configured to sense a component of acceleration in an axis away from the axis that the munition is configured to travel, the sensor arrangement is configured to provide a first output based on the component of the axis away from the munitions direction of travel 134. The fuse system may be configured to trigger an explosive charge. The output from the impact sensor may have to be greater than a threshold value to trigger the explosive charge. The impact sensor may sense a component of acceleration in the munitions direction of travel 300 and produce a second output that if greater than a second threshold value will trigger the explosive charge. The sensor arrangement may consist of two orthogonally positioned sensors (112a, 112b Fig 3) each configured to produce an output away from the munition’s direction of travel. The sensors may be any one of or combination of accelerometer, piezoelectric sensor, magnetostrictive sensor, electromagnetic sensor, electromechanical switch, strain gauge or optical interference sensor
