Mesh generation method

Abstract

Mesh generation comprises receiving (102) data representative of an input geometry of an object (e.g. CAD data) and generating (104) an implicit representation of the geometry (e.g. a signed distance map function, providing a distance between a position and the geometry boundary), the implicit representation comprising a geometry boundary, an exterior portion, and an interior portion. A first mesh is generated (106) based on the implicit geometry, the first mesh comprising mesh elements, and a refined mesh is generated (108) based on the first mesh, the refined mesh comprising mesh element point(s). Surface mesh element optimization is performed (110) on the refined mesh, and an output mesh is outputted (112). Sharp geometry refinement may be performed (114)on the outputted mesh to output (116) a further improved mesh. Surface element optimisation may comprise identifying and re-meshing low quality surface mesh elements. Generating the first mesh may comprise generating and refining (e.g. according to an equilibrium problem) an intermediate mesh.
