Abstract

Load balancing in a wireless communication network includes receiving quality of experience, QoE, data from a plurality of electronic devices connected to the network. The QoE data is indicative of a quality of a user experience provided by each of the electronic devices whilst the devices provide a service using the network. The QoE data is input to a load balancing algorithm configured to output a load balancing action based on the QoE to improve a balance of network traffic across nodes in the network and an overall QoE across the devices using the wireless communication network. The load balancing action is then implemented in the network. The QoE data may comprise data on throughput, playout delay, buffer level. The load balancing algorithm may also receive data indicative of current load distribution comprising measurements on the quality of network signals received by the devices. The load balancing algorithm may optimize the balance of traffic across the network and the overall QoE of the devices. Feedback may be given from the devices after the load balancing action. The load balancing action may comprise retaining an existing connection, performing cell handover or inter-radio access, RAT, handover.
