Methods and apparatuses for activation of rule sets based on operational criteria

Abstract

A user equipment (UE) selects, based on one or more operational criteria associated with the UE, a rule set of a plurality of rule sets. The rule set for at least partially defining a user equipment route selection policy (URSP). Each rule of the rule set corresponds to a respective rule set identifier of a plurality of rule set identifiers. The rule set includes a plurality of traffic descriptors (TDs) and a plurality of route selection descriptors (RSDs) corresponding to the plurality of TDs. The UE transmits user plane traffic that matches a TD in the rule set that is selected based on the one or more operational criteria associated with the UE, wherein the user plane traffic is transmitted via a route indicated by one of the RSDs associated with the TD in the rule set that is selected. The one or more operational criteria associated with the UE may include, the UE operating in an energy conservation mode, the UE operating in an on-duty mode associated with a user occupation, or the UE operating in a personal use mode.
