Neutron shielding for fusion reactors

Abstract

Neutron shielding. The neutron shielding comprises a reflection layer and one or more attenuation layers. The one or more attenuation layers comprise one or more of: a metal hydride, a metal carbide, a metal boride, a metal borohydride, a metal borocarbide, and boron carbide. The reflection layer has a thickness of at least 1 cm, and comprises tungsten metal, or an alloy of tungsten with other metals. In use, the reflection layer is between the attenuation layers and a neutron source. Figure 2
