Abstract

This invention relates to an orally administrated nutritional supplement for the management of symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and related functional disorders. The composition includes:1) zinc-L-carnosine 60-100 mg per daily dose or an equivalent combination of zinc and L-carnosine providing 16?20 mg elemental Zn and 55-60 mg L-carnosine; 2) extract of Boswellia serrata resin with 25-35% total AKBA yielding 60-90 mg AKBA; 3) a probiotic blend 30-100 billion CFU that includes, at least, one strain from the genera Streptococcus, Bifidobacterium, and Lactobacillus. The active ingredients are incorporated into an acid-resistant or slow-release pharmaceutical form which limits their release in gastric pH and releases them when the pH is "greater than or equal to" 5.5, ensuring their integrity until they reach the intestine. The combination of the three above components strengthens the intestinal barrier, reduces intestinal inflammation, and restores the intestinal microbiota, providing comprehensive support to patients with IBS and related functional intestinal disorders.
