Abstract

This article is a communication device for a portable microorganism observation instrument that is set on a portable microorganism observation instrument (hereinafter simply referred to as the "observation instrument"), captures light emitted from the observation instrument, and transmits the captured image data to an external device (e.g., a smartphone, a tablet, etc.). This article has an opening at a position corresponding to the imaging lens protruding from the top surface of the main body of the observation instrument when set on the observation instrument, and the protruding part of the imaging lens can be fitted into the opening. This article is placed above the opening and has an image sensor into which light emitted from the imaging lens of the observation instrument is incident, and a communication unit capable of communicating with an external device. The image sensor and the communication unit are built into this article. The observation instrument has a sample placement section for placing a sample, a light source that irradiates light from above onto the sample placed on the sample placement section, and an optical system that guides the light that has passed through the sample. The optical system of the observation instrument is composed of an objective lens into which the light transmitted through the sample is incident, a mirror that reflects and guides the light that is incident on the objective lens, and an imaging lens into which the light reflected by the mirror is incident and which emits the light to the outside of the main body. The objective lens and the mirror are built into the main body. A part of the imaging lens protrudes from the top surface of the main body. When using the instrument, a sample is first placed on the sample placement section of the observation instrument. The light that is transmitted through the sample is then guided by the optical system and emitted from the imaging lens of the observation instrument. The light that is emitted from the imaging lens is guided to the image sensor of the communication device and imaged, and the image data is transmitted from the communication section of the instrument to an external device, and an image of the sample is displayed on the display section of the external device based on the image data.
