Abstract
Description
[Technical field]
[0001] The present invention relates to a printing device, a control method for a printing device, and a program. [Background technology]
[0002] A printing device that performs printing is connected to an information processing device (such as a personal computer) that can process information between the printing device and the printing device so that the printing device can communicate with the information processing device. The printing device and the information processing device can communicate based on IPP (Internet Printing Protocol). This allows a print instruction to be sent from the information processing device to the printing device without using a printer driver designed for the printing device. In addition, IPP allows setting information related to print settings (printing conditions) to be saved in the printing device. This setting information is transmitted from the printing device to the information processing device in response to a request from the information processing device. Then, the information processing device can reflect this setting information in a printed document. A user can register setting information related to print settings as a preset in the printing device. This registration is sometimes called an "IPP preset". In addition, a user can select a preset registered in the printing device in the information processing device. This allows the preset (setting information) selected in the information processing device to be reflected in a printed document in the printing device. Patent Document 1 discloses a printing device that can print based on IPP presets. [Prior art documents] [Patent documents]

This communication may be wireless or wired. In this embodiment, a terminal device 103 and a terminal device 104 are arranged as the information processing device 105. The terminal device 103 is a tablet terminal or a smartphone in the configuration shown in FIG. 1, but is not limited thereto, and may be, for example, a desktop or notebook personal computer. In addition, the terminal device 104 is a notebook personal computer in the configuration shown in FIG. 1, but is not limited thereto, and may be, for example, a desktop personal computer, a tablet terminal, or a smartphone. In addition, the number of information processing devices 105 arranged in the printing system 1000 is two in this embodiment, but is not limited thereto, and may be, for example, one or three or more. The printing device 101 is not particularly limited, and may be, for example, a multi-function peripheral (MFP) or a single-function printer (SFP).
[0012] <Printing device hardware configuration> FIG. 2 is a block diagram showing the hardware configuration of a printing device. The printing device 101 shown in FIG. 2 has a printing function of printing an image on paper (recording medium) and executes printing processing based on a print job received via the LAN 100. The "print job" includes print settings such as the number of copies to be printed, color printing / monochrome printing, single-sided printing / double-sided printing, and the print document (e.g., PDF) to which the print settings are reflected. The printing device 101 has a control unit 210, an operation unit 220, a printing unit (printer engine) 221, and a paper processing unit 222. The control unit 210 centrally controls the operation of the entire printing device 101. The control unit 210 has a CPU (Central Processing Unit) 211, a ROM (Read Only Memory) 212, a RAM (Random Access Memory) 213, and a storage 214. The control unit 210 also has an operation unit I / F (interface) 215, a printing unit I / F 216, a paper processing unit I / F 217, an image processing unit 218, and a network I / F 219.
[0013] The CPU 211 is a computer that loads a program stored in the ROM 212 or the storage 214 into the RAM 213 and executes the program to perform print control. The ROM 212 stores a control program and a boot program that can be executed by the CPU 211. The control program includes, for example, a program for causing the CPU 211 to execute each unit and each means (a control method of the printing device) of the printing device 101. The RAM 213 is the main memory of the CPU 211 and is used as a work area or a temporary storage area for loading various control programs. The storage 214 stores print jobs, image data, various programs, and various setting information. In this embodiment, a hard disk drive (HDD) is used as the storage 214, but this is not limited thereto, and for example, a solid state drive (SSD) or the like may be used. Note that, in the control unit 210, one each of the CPU 211, the ROM 212, the RAM 213, and the storage 214 is arranged, but this is not limited thereto, and multiple each may be arranged.
[0014] The operation unit I / F 215 is an interface that connects the operation unit 220 and the control unit 210. The operation unit 220 is composed of, for example, a display unit having a touch panel function, various hardware keys, and the like. This allows the operation unit 220 to receive instructions from a user by operating the operation unit 220. In addition, the operation unit 220 can display various information on the display unit. The printing unit I / F 216 is an interface that connects the printing unit 221 and the control unit 210. A print job from the information processing device 105 is transferred from the control unit 210 to the printing unit 221 via the printing unit I / F 216. The printing unit 221 receives a control command from the control unit 210 in addition to the print job. This allows the printing unit 221 to print an image on paper fed from a paper feed cassette based on the print job. The printing unit 221 according to this embodiment is capable of printing on at least one type of paper fed from a paper feed cassette. The printer attribute of the paper type is notified to the control unit 210 in advance (for example, when the printing device 101 is started up) via the printing unit I / F 216, and is stored in the RAM 213 or the storage 214. The printing method in the printing unit 221 is not particularly limited, and may be, for example, an inkjet method, an electrophotographic method, a thermal transfer method, or the like. The paper processing unit I / F 217 is an interface that connects the control unit 210 and the paper processing unit 222. The paper processing unit 222 receives a control command from the control unit 210, and performs post-processing on the paper printed by the printing unit 221 according to the control command. This post-processing after printing is not particularly limited, and may be, for example, a process of aligning multiple papers, a process of punching holes in the paper, a process of binding multiple papers, or the like. The control unit 210 is also connected to the LAN 100 via the network I / F 219. The network I / F 219 transmits various types of information such as image data to the information processing apparatus 105 on the LAN 100 and receives various types of information such as print jobs from the information processing apparatus 105 on the LAN 100 .
[0015] The image processing unit 218 has a RIP (Raster Image Processor) function. The "RIP function" is a function that develops a print job received via the LAN 100 and generates image data to be used for printing. The image processing unit 218 can also perform resolution conversion and correction processing of image data. Note that, in this embodiment, the image processing unit 218 is configured with a hardware circuit (ASIC or FPGA, etc.), but is not limited to this, and may be configured with, for example, a processor for image processing. When the image processing unit 218 is configured with a processor for image processing, the processor executes an image processing program, thereby enabling image data generation processing, resolution conversion processing, and correction processing. In addition, the CPU 211 may execute a program for performing image processing to perform image processing, etc.
[0016] <Printing device software configuration> FIG. 3 is a block diagram showing the software configuration of the printing device. In this embodiment, each functional block in FIG. 3 is realized by the CPU 211 executing a program loaded in the RAM 213. As shown in FIG. 3, the printing device 101 has an IPP print service control unit 301, a print job generation unit 302, an IPP attribute control unit 303, and a job control unit 306. The printing device 101 also has a data reception control unit 311, a PDL analysis unit 312, a RIP control unit 313, an engine control unit 314, and an operation control unit 315. The IPP attribute control unit 303 has a preset management unit 304 and a priority order management unit 305. The job control unit 306 has a job attribute storage unit 307 and a page control unit 308. The page control unit 308 has a page attribute storage unit 309, a print control unit 310, and a page storage unit 316.
[0017] The IPP print service control unit 301 notifies the information processing device 105 of the preset information registered in the printing device 101, which is managed by the preset management unit 304, and the functions executable by the printing device 101, as printer attributes of the printing device 101. When the IPP print service control unit 301 receives a print job based on IPP (Internet Printing Protocol) from the information processing device 105 via the LAN 100, the IPP print service control unit 301 transmits the print job to the print job generation unit 302. The print job generation unit 302 receives the print job from the information processing device 105 via the IPP print service control unit 301. The print job generation unit 302 writes the print job to the data reception control unit 311, and registers it as a new job in the job control unit 306, requesting the start of print processing. The print job generation unit 302 also transmits print setting information to be applied to the print job to the job attribute storage unit 307.
[0018] The data reception control unit 311 is a buffer area for print jobs received by the print job generation unit 302. This allows temporary storage in the storage 214 for each print job. When the job control unit 306 instructs the PDL analysis unit 312 to perform PDL analysis processing for the print job, the PDL analysis unit 312 requests the print job from the data reception control unit 311. As a result, the data reception control unit 311 transmits the print job to the PDL analysis unit 312. The PDL analysis unit 312 generates intermediate data according to the PDL language specification. This intermediate data is stored in the page storage unit 316. The attributes stored in the job attribute storage unit 307 include various printing conditions when printing is performed by the printing device 101. The printing conditions are not particularly limited, and examples include "paper type," "number of copies," "Nup (consolidated printing)," "print side (single-sided / double-sided) setting," and "color / monochrome" that are set as job attributes of IPP. In addition to the printing conditions, post-processing conditions after printing such as "finishing settings" are also included. These printing conditions and post-processing conditions, that is, output conditions, are all managed in a job attribute storage unit 307 in association with a job ID.
[0019] The page control unit 308 controls the page analysis process of the PDL analysis unit 312, the RIP process of the RIP control unit 313, and the print control process of the print control unit 310. The page control unit 308 transmits intermediate data generated by the PDL analysis unit 312 and stored in the page storage unit 316 to the RIP control unit 313. The RIP control unit 313 renders the intermediate data to generate image data. The page control unit 308 transmits the image data generated by the RIP control unit 313 to the print control unit 310. The print control unit 310 separates the image data into CMYK and transfers it to the engine control unit 314. The engine control unit 314 receives the image data for each CMYK on a page-by-page basis from the print control unit 310, and controls the printing unit 221 to execute print processing for each page.
[0020] <Hardware configuration of information processing device> FIG. 4 is a block diagram showing a hardware configuration of the information processing device. As shown in FIG. 4, the information processing device 105 has a control unit 400 and an operation unit 406. The control unit 400 centrally controls the operation of the information processing device 105. The control unit 400 has a CPU 401, a ROM 402, a RAM 403, a storage 404, an operation unit I / F 405, and a network I / F 407. The CPU 401 is a computer that loads a program stored in the ROM 402 or the storage 404 into the RAM 403 and executes the program to perform arithmetic processing. The ROM 402 stores a control program executable by the CPU 401, a boot program, and the like. The RAM 403 is the main storage memory of the CPU 401 and is used as a work area or a temporary storage area for loading various control programs. The storage 404 stores application data, print jobs, various programs, and various setting information. In this embodiment, an SSD is used as the storage 404, but this is not limited thereto, and for example, an HDD or the like may be used. In the control unit 400, one each of the CPU 401, ROM 402, RAM 403, and storage 404 are arranged, but the present invention is not limited thereto, and multiple each of them may be arranged. The operation unit I / F 405 is an interface that connects the operation unit 406 and the control unit 400. The operation unit 406 is configured, for example, with a display unit having a touch function. This allows instructions from a user to be accepted by operating the operation unit 406. Furthermore, the operation unit 406 can display various information on the display unit. Furthermore, the control unit 400 is connected to the AP 102 via a network I / F 407.
[0021] <Software configuration of information processing device> FIG. 5 is a block diagram showing a software configuration of the information processing apparatus. Note that each functional block in FIG. 5 is realized by the CPU 401 executing a program expanded in the RAM 403. As shown in FIG. 5, the information processing apparatus 105 has an application 501, an OS print framework 502, a print screen control unit 508, an OS drawing engine 511, and a data communication control unit 513. The OS print framework 502 has an IPP client control unit 503 and a print spooler 512. The IPP client control unit 503 has a print job generation unit 504 and a printer information management unit 507. The print job generation unit 504 has an attribute generation unit 505 and a PDL generation unit 506. The print screen control unit 508 has a print setting management unit 509 and a preview display unit 510. The information processing apparatus 105 also has an OS (Operating System).
[0022] The application 501 is an application that runs on the information processing device 105, and can provide the user with general application functions such as a word processor and a spreadsheet. The application 501 can also draw a GUI for user operation and generate data for printing via an OS drawing engine 511 provided by the OS of the information processing device 105. When a user calls a print function on the application 501, the application 501 calls the print screen control unit 508. As described above, the print screen control unit 508 has a print setting management unit 509 and a preview display unit 510. The print setting management unit 509 acquires the printer attributes of the printing device 101 from the printer information management unit 507, and generates a UI screen for print settings that matches the capabilities of the printing device 101. The preview display unit 510 displays each page data generated by the application 501 via the OS drawing engine 511 together with the print settings of the print setting management unit 509.
[0023] As described above, the OS print framework 502 has an IPP client control unit 503 and a print spooler 512. The IPP client control unit 503 also has a print job generation unit 504 and a printer information management unit 507. The print job generation unit 504 generates a print job according to an instruction from a print screen control unit 508. The printer information management unit 507 holds the printer attributes of the printing device 101 acquired from the printing device 101. The printer information management unit 507 acquires the printer attributes from the printing device 101 via a data communication control unit 513 and transmits them to the print screen control unit 508. The print spooler 512 transfers the print jobs generated by the IPP client control unit 503 to the printing device 101 in order via the data communication control unit 513.
[0024] As described above, the print job generation unit 504 has an attribute generation unit 505 and a PDL generation unit 506. The attribute generation unit 505 and the PDL generation unit 506 start processing upon receiving an instruction to generate a print document from the print screen control unit 508. The attribute generation unit 505 generates attribute information for the IPP job in accordance with an instruction from the print setting management unit 509. The PDL generation unit 506 acquires page data generated by the OS drawing engine 511 in page order, converts the data into a PDL language that can be processed by the printing device 101, and transmits the data. The PDL format that can be processed by the printing device 101 is acquired from the printer information management unit 515.
[0025] <Print sequence> Fig. 6 is a sequence diagram showing the processing executed between a user, an information processing device, and a printing device. Fig. 12 is a diagram showing an example of printer attributes. Here, a printing sequence in which a user 300 uses a preset displayed on the information processing device 105 to cause the printing device 101 to print will be described.
[0026] In step S601, the user 300 operates the operation unit 406 of the information processing apparatus 105 to instruct the information processing apparatus 105 to register a printer.
[0027] In step S 602 , if the information processing apparatus 105 receives the printer registration instruction in step S 601 , it generates a printer attribute acquisition operation 1301 (see FIG. 12) and transmits it to the printing apparatus 101 .
[0028] In step S603, when the printing device 101 receives the printer attribute acquisition operation 1301 in step S602, the printing device 101 generates a printer attribute response 1302 (see FIG. 12) and transmits it to the information processing device 105. This enables the information processing device 105 to receive the printer attribute response 1302.
[0029] In step S604, the information processing apparatus 105 stores the printer attributes in the RAM 403, and completes the printer registration.
[0030] In step S605, the user 300 operates the operation unit 406 of the information processing apparatus 105 to call up a print setting screen.
[0031] In step S 606 , if the information processing apparatus 105 receives an instruction to call the print setting screen in step S 605 , it generates a printer attribute acquisition operation 1303 (see FIG. 12) and transmits it to the printing apparatus 101 .
[0032] In step S607, when the printing device 101 receives the printer attribute acquisition operation 1303 in step S606, the printing device 101 determines the priority order of the presets to be displayed on the information processing device 105. In this embodiment, the priority order is determined based on the following four options (determination conditions). The first option is "do not specify a priority order". The second option is "in order of most frequently used", that is, "in order of most frequently used print settings in the printing device 101". The third option is "in order of most recently registered", that is, "in order of least recently registered print settings". The fourth option is "in order of most recently used", that is, "in order of least recently used print settings in the printing device 101". These options are also set in the printing device 101 (see priority order 1204 of preset display in FIG. 11(a)).
[0033] In step S608, the printing device 101 updates the preset information 1010 (see FIG. 10) according to the priority order determined in step S607. Details of the priority order determination process in step S607 and the preset information update process in step S608 will be described later with reference to FIG.
[0034] In step S609, the printing device 101 generates a printer attribute response operation 1304 (see FIG. 12) based on the preset information 1010 updated in step S608, and transmits it to the information processing device 105.
[0035] In step S610, if the information processing apparatus 105 receives the printer attribute response operation 1304 in step S609, the information processing apparatus 105 displays the print setting screen 1011 (see FIG. 10) on the operation unit 406.
[0036] In step S611, the user 300 operates the operation unit 406 of the information processing device 105 to issue a preset setting instruction to the information processing device 105.
[0037] In step S612, when the information processing device 105 receives the preset setting instruction in step S611, it displays options 1012 (see FIG. 10) as a list of presets based on the printer attribute response operation 1304. Then, the information processing device 105 stores the presets instructed by the user 300 in the RAM 403, and completes the preset setting.
[0038] In step S613, the user 300 operates the operation unit 406 of the information processing apparatus 105 to instruct the information processing apparatus 105 to start printing.
[0039] In step S614, the information processing apparatus 105 transmits a print setting verification operation 1305 (see FIG. 12) to the printing apparatus 101 based on the information specified in the print start instruction in step S613.
[0040] In step S615, when the printing device 101 receives the print settings verification operation 1305 in step S614, it determines whether printing is possible with the settings of the print settings verification operation 1305. If the printing device 101 determines as a result of this determination that printing is possible, it generates a print settings verification response operation 1306 (see FIG. 12) including "status-code=successful-ok" indicating success, and transmits it to the information processing device 105.
[0041] In step S616, if the information processing apparatus 105 has received the print setting verification response operation 1306 in step S615, the information processing apparatus 105 sends a print job creation operation 1307 (see FIG. 12) to the printing apparatus 101.
[0042] In step S617, if the printing apparatus 101 has received the create print job operation 1307 in step S616, the printing apparatus 101 sends a create print job response operation 1308 (see FIG. 12) to the information processing apparatus 105.
[0043] In step S618, if the information processing apparatus 105 has received the print job creation response operation 1308 in step S617, the information processing apparatus 105 sends a print document transmission operation 1309 (see FIG. 12) to the printing apparatus 101.
[0044] In step S619, when the printing device 101 receives the print document transmission operation 1309 in step S618, the printing device 101 updates the preset management table 900A (see FIG. 9A). Details of the preset management table update process in step S619 will be described later with reference to FIG.
[0045] In step S620, the printing device 101 performs printing based on the information specified in the print job creation operation 1307 in step S616.
[0046] In step S621, the printing apparatus 101 sends to the information processing apparatus 105 a print document transmission response operation 1310 (see FIG. 12) including "status-code=successful-ok" indicating successful printing.
[0047] <Printing device processing procedure> FIG. 7 is a flowchart showing a process of registering a preset in a printing device, receiving a print job in which the preset is set from an information processing device, and printing the print job. FIG. 9 is a diagram showing an example of a preset management table. FIG. 10 is a diagram showing an example of a print setting screen. FIG. 11 is a diagram showing an example of a preset management screen. FIG. 13 is a diagram showing an example of a print setting screen. Details of the priority order determination process in step S607, details of the preset information update process in step S608, and details of the preset management table update process in step S619 will be described below. As shown in FIG. 7, in step S701, the operation control unit 315 of the printing device 101 judges whether or not there is a new preset registration request from the operation unit 220 of the printing device 101. If it is judged that there is a new preset registration request as a result of the judgment in step S701, the process proceeds to step S702. On the other hand, if it is judged that there is no new preset registration request as a result of the judgment in step S701, the process proceeds to step S703.
[0048] In this embodiment, the preset management screen 1200 shown in FIG. 11A is implemented by the RUI (remote UI). Only the administrator of the printing device 101 can access this preset management screen 1200. In other words, only the administrator of the printing device 101 can register a new preset. The preset management screen 1200 includes a preset name 1201, a status 1202, a button 1203, a preset display priority order 1204, and a button 1205. The button 1205 is an "add preset" button (registration means) that is operated when additionally registering a new preset (print setting). The button 1203 is a "delete" button that is operated when deleting a registered preset. As shown in FIG. 11A, "draft", "staple", and "eco staple" are already registered as presets on the preset management screen 1200. The name of each preset can be confirmed by the preset name 1201. Incidentally, the term "draft" refers to a trial print (test print) and is used, for example, when checking the print state. "Staple" is one of the post-processing processes performed after printing, and is binding multiple printed sheets of paper with a stapler, that is, stapling. "Eco-staple" is one of the post-processing processes performed after printing like stapler, but differs from stapler in that multiple printed sheets of paper are bound by pressure bonding without using a stapler, that is, stapleless binding. In addition, by clicking each preset included in the preset name 1201, it is possible to transition to a preset editing screen 1220 shown in FIG. 11(c). The state 1202 indicates whether the preset is valid or invalid. To change whether the preset is valid or invalid in the state 1202, it is possible to check or not check a check box 1222 on the preset editing screen 1220. If the check box 1222 is checked, the preset is valid, and if the check box 1222 is not checked, the preset is invalid. By operating a button 1221 on the preset editing screen 1220, the preset setting contents can be updated. The preset display priority order 1204 is operated when selecting a condition for determining the priority order of the presets. The preset display priority order 1204 includes options 1206 such as "no priority order", "highest frequency of use", "newest registration order", and "most recently used order". The administrator of the printing device 101 can set the priority order of the preset display by the preset display priority order 1204 in addition to the registration of the presets. In the options 1012 of the item 1011b of the print setting screen 1011 shown in FIG. 10, the presets are displayed in descending order from the most frequently used to the least frequently used. In the options 1012, as an example, "draft", "staple", and "eco staple" are displayed in order. As a result, the presets with high frequency of use are displayed at the top, and therefore, even if the number of presets registered increases, the user can easily select the presets with high frequency of use.
[0049] By operating a button 1205 on the preset management screen 1200, the screen transitions to a preset addition screen 1210 shown in FIG. 11B. The preset addition screen 1210 includes a preset name 1211, a check box 1212, a check box 1213, an item 1214, a setting value change 1215, a button 1216, and a button 1217. The name of the preset to be added can be input in the preset name 1211. The preset can be enabled by checking the check box 1212. This allows the added preset to be actually used. By operating the setting value change 1215 for the item 1214 with the check box 1213 checked, the print setting of the preset to be added can be performed. For example, for the item 1214 "number of copies", a value of "1 to 9999" for the number of copies to be printed can be input in the setting value change 1215. For the item 1214 “Double-Sided Printing”, “Do not print double-sided”, “Print double-sided with long edge binding”, or “Print double-sided with short edge binding” can be selected by changing the setting value 1215. For the item 1214 “Staple”, “Do not staple”, “Staple with staple”, or “Staple without staple (eco staple)” can be selected by changing the setting value 1215. For the item 1214 “Staple position”, “Upper left”, “Lower left”, “Upper right”, or “Lower right” can be selected by changing the setting value 1215. For the item 1214 “Toner saving”, “Do not save toner” or “Save toner” can be selected by changing the setting value 1215. The button 1216 is an “Add” button that is operated when the addition of the preset is completed. The button 1217 is a “Cancel” button that is operated when the addition of the preset is canceled. In this embodiment, the preset “Draft” can be added on the preset addition screen 1401 shown in FIG. 13(a). Also, the preset "staple" can be added on a preset addition screen 1402 shown in FIG. 13(b), and the preset "eco-staple" can be added on a preset addition screen 1403 shown in FIG. 13(c).In this way, in the printing device 101, when it is desired to register a plurality of presets (print settings) having different output conditions, the registration can be appropriately performed (registration step).
[0050] In step S702, the IPP attribute control unit 303 of the printing device 101 adds a new preset to the preset management table 900A of the preset management unit 304. As shown in FIG. 9A, the preset management table 900A is composed of information on the preset ID, the preset name, the IPP settings, the printing device settings, the registration date and time, the last use date and time, and the number of uses. In FIG. 9A, the preset "draft" added on the preset addition screen 1401 shown in FIG. 13A is set to a preset ID of "1" and a preset name of "draft". The IPP settings are print settings based on attributes and attribute values defined in IPP, where "sides=two-sided-long-edge" indicates double-sided printing with long-edge binding, and "print-quality=draft" indicates that a draft-level print quality is sufficient. The printing device settings are print settings based on attributes and attribute values circulating within the printing device 101, and also include attributes unique to the printing device 101 that are not defined in IPP. Along with the preset name, IPP settings, and printing device settings, the registration date and time, last used date and time, and number of uses are initialized. The registration date and time is the date and time when the preset was registered (for example, 2023 / 4 / 1 12:21). The last used date and time is the last date and time when the draft was used (for example, 2000 / 1 / 1 00:00). The number of uses is the number of times the draft was used. Note that the number of uses is initialized to "0". As with the draft, the preset "staple" added on the preset addition screen 1402 shown in FIG. 13(b) is set to a preset ID of "2". The preset "eco staple" added on the preset addition screen 1403 shown in FIG. 13(c) is set to a preset ID of "3".
[0051] In step S703, the IPP print service control unit 301 of the printing device 101 determines whether or not there is a printer attribute acquisition request from the information processing device 105. A printer attribute acquisition request is made by "Get-Printer-Attributes" of printer attribute acquisition operation 1303 in Fig. 12 (see step S606). If it is determined in step S703 that there is a printer attribute acquisition request, the process proceeds to step S704. On the other hand, if it is determined in step S703 that there is no printer attribute acquisition request, the process proceeds to processing step S713.
[0052] In step S704, the IPP attribute control unit 303 of the printing device 101 refers to the preset management table 900B in Fig. 9B to create the preset information 1010 shown in Fig. 10. In the preset management table 900B, the registered presets "draft," "staple," and "eco-staple" are each used multiple times.
[0053] In step S705, the IPP attribute control unit 303 checks in what priority order the multiple presets are to be displayed on the information processing device 105. In this embodiment, the options 1206 on the preset management screen 1200 shown in FIG. 11 include "Do not specify", "Most frequently used", "Latest registration", and "Most recently used". The administrator of the printing device 101 can select one of these options 1206. In this way, in step S704, the preset management screen 1200 (determination means) can determine the priority order for the presets "draft", "staple", and "eco staple" under the conditions selected in the options 1206 (determination step). Even if one option 1206 is selected from the options 1206, the option 1206 (change means) can be operated again to select another option 1206, thereby appropriately changing the conditions for determining the priority order. In addition, when "Do not specify" is selected from the options 1206, the execution of the priority order determination can be stopped. In this way, the option 1206 also functions as a switching means for switching whether or not to execute the determination of the priority order.
[0054] In step S706, the IPP attribute control unit 303 determines whether or not "highest frequency of use" is set in the priority order management unit 305. If it is determined in step S706 that "highest frequency of use" is set, the process proceeds to step S709. On the other hand, if it is determined in step S706 that "highest frequency of use" is not set, the process proceeds to step S707.
[0055] In step S707, the IPP attribute control unit 303 determines whether or not "newest registration first" is set in the priority order management unit 305. If it is determined in step S707 that "newest registration first" is set, the process proceeds to step S710. On the other hand, if it is determined in step S707 that "newest registration first" is not set, the process proceeds to step S708.
[0056] In step S708, the IPP attribute control unit 303 determines whether or not "most recently used" is set in the priority order management unit 305. If it is determined in step S708 that "most recently used" is set, the process proceeds to step S711. On the other hand, if it is determined in step S708 that "most recently used" is not set, the process proceeds to step S712.
[0057] In step S709, the priority order management unit 305 refers to the preset management table 900B shown in Fig. 9B, updates the preset information so that the registered presets are arranged in descending order of the number of times of use, and the process proceeds to step S712. The preset information 1020 shown in Fig. 10 is a result of updating the preset information 1010 so that the number of times of use is arranged in descending order. In the preset information 1020, the preset name "staple" (preset 902) which has been used 132 times is arranged at the top. Next, the preset name "eco staple" (preset 903) which has been used 44 times is arranged, and the preset name "draft" (preset 901) which has been used 4 times is arranged at the bottom.
[0058] In step S710, the priority order management unit 305 refers to the preset management table 900B shown in FIG. 9B, updates the preset information so that the registered presets are arranged in descending order of registration date and time, and the process proceeds to step S712. Although not shown, in the case of step S710, the preset information has a preset name "Eco Staple" (preset 903) with a registration date and time of 2023 / 4 / 8 13:04 arranged at the top. Next, the preset name "Staple" (preset 902) with a registration date and time of 2023 / 4 / 1 12:24 arranged, and the preset name "Draft" (preset 901) with a registration date and time of 2023 / 4 / 1 12:21 arranged at the bottom.
[0059] In step S711, the priority order management unit 305 refers to the preset management table 900B shown in FIG. 9B, updates the preset information so that the registered presets are arranged in descending order of the most recent last use date and time, and the process proceeds to step S712. Although not shown, in the case of step S711, the preset information has a preset name "Eco Staple" (preset 903) with a last use date and time of 2023 / 7 / 04 17:21 arranged at the top. Next, the preset name "Draft" (preset 901) with a last use date and time of 2023 / 7 / 04 13:21 is arranged, and the preset name "Staple" (preset 902) with a last use date and time of 2023 / 6 / 20 12:20 is arranged at the bottom.
[0060] As described above, in steps S709 to S711, the priority order management unit 305 (control means) can change the preset priority order for each condition selected in the option 1206 (control step).
[0061] In step S712, the IPP print service control unit 301 (transmission means) transmits the printer attributes of the printing device 101 to the information processing device 105 as a printer attribute response 1320 (see FIG. 12) (transmission step), and the process proceeds to step S713. Note that step S712 corresponds to step S609 in the sequence diagram shown in FIG. 6. Also, the printer attribute response 1320 includes preset information (e.g., preset information 1020) updated by the priority order management unit 305, that is, presets that have been rearranged in priority order. Therefore, the "job-presets-supported" of the printer attribute response 1320 includes, for example, the preset information 1020 updated to "in order of most frequently used". Note that the printer attribute response 1320 (preset information) is transmitted in response to a print setting transmission request from the information processing device 105. As a result, the information processing device 105 can receive the printer attribute response 1320 when the printer attribute response 1320 is necessary.
[0062] In step S713, the IPP print service control unit 301 determines whether or not there is a request for verification of the print settings from the information processing device 105. A request for verification of the print settings is made by the print setting verification operation 1305 "Validate-Job" (see step S614). If it is determined in step S713 that there is a request for verification of the print settings, the process proceeds to step S714. On the other hand, if it is determined in step S713 that there is no request for verification of the print settings, the process proceeds to step S715.
[0063] In step S714, the IPP print service control unit 301 responds to the print verification request with a print setting verification response operation 1306. This step S714 corresponds to step S614 in the sequence diagram shown in Fig. 6. In step S714, for example, if there is no problem with the print settings, a "successful-ok" response is returned.
[0064] In step S715, the IPP print service control unit 301 determines whether or not there is a request for creating a print job from the information processing device 105. A request for creating a print job is made by "Create-Job" of the print job creation operation 1307 (see step S616). If it is determined in step S715 that there is a request for creating a print job, the process proceeds to step S716. On the other hand, if it is determined in step S715 that there is no request for creating a print job, the process returns to step S701, and the subsequent steps are executed in sequence.
[0065] In step S716, the IPP print service control unit 301 creates a print job and transmits information about the created job, including "job_id", to the information processing device 105, and the process proceeds to step S717. This transmission to the information processing device 105 is performed by the print job creation response operation 1308 (see step S617).
[0066] In step S717, the IPP print service control unit 301 determines whether or not a print document has been sent from the information processing device 105. This print document is sent by the print document sending operation 1309 "Send-Document" (see step S618). If it is determined in step S717 that a print document has been sent, the process proceeds to step S718. On the other hand, if it is determined in step S717 that a print document has not been sent, the process remains in standby in step S717.
[0067] In step S718, the job control unit 306 of the printing device 101 prints the print document received in step S717 together with the IPP attribute control unit 303, PDL analysis unit 312, RIP control unit 313, and engine control unit 314. When the printing is completed, the job control unit 306 notifies the information processing device 105 of the completion of printing by a print document response operation 1310. After step S718 is executed, the process proceeds to step S719.
[0068] In step S719, the IPP attribute control unit 303 determines whether the print job has used a preset. This determination is made based on whether the "preset-name" attribute is included in the "Create-Job" of the print job creation operation 1307 (see step S616). If the "preset-name" attribute is included in the "Create-Job" of the print job creation operation 1307, it is determined that the print job has used a preset. If it is determined in step S719 that the print job has used a preset, the process proceeds to step S720. On the other hand, if it is determined in step S719 that the print job has not used a preset, the process returns to step S701, and the subsequent steps are executed in sequence.
[0069] In step S720, the IPP attribute control unit 303 searches for the preset used by the print job in the preset management table 900B of the preset management unit 304. The IPP attribute control unit 303 then updates the associated information of the used preset in the preset management table 900B. Note that in this embodiment, it is assumed that the printing device 101 has a built-in timer. In this case, the IPP attribute control unit 303 can obtain current time information from the timer and update the last use date and time of the preset and the number of uses information in the preset management table 900B.
[0070] <Processing procedure of information processing device> 8 is a flowchart showing a process executed by the information processing device when acquiring preset information from a printing device and performing printing using the preset. As shown in FIG 8, in step S801, the application 501 of the information processing device 105 opens a file to be printed.
[0071] In step S802, the application 501 determines whether or not there is a request for print settings for the file opened in step S801. If it is determined in step S802 that there is a request for print settings, the process proceeds to step S803. On the other hand, if it is determined in step S802 that there is no request for print settings, the process proceeds to step S807.
[0072] In step S803, the IPP client control unit 503 of the information processing device 105 acquires the printer attributes (capability information) of the printing device 101. The printer attributes can be acquired by sending an acquire printer attributes operation 1303 to the printing device 101 (see step S606) and receiving a acquire printer attributes response operation 1304 from the printing device 101 (step S609).
[0073] In step S804, the IPP client control unit 503 determines whether the printer attributes acquired in step S803 include preset information. This determination is made based on whether the printer attributes include "job-presets-supported". If the printer attributes include "job-presets-supported", it is determined that the printer attributes include preset information. Note that the response operation 1304 and the printer attribute response 1320 include "job-presets-supported", and it is possible to determine whether or not preset information exists based on this "job-presets-supported". Then, if it is determined in step S804 that the printer attributes include preset information, the process proceeds to step S805. On the other hand, if it is determined in step S804 that the printer attributes do not include preset information, the process proceeds to step S806.
[0074] In step S805, the print screen control unit 508 of the information processing device 105 displays a print setting screen. Furthermore, the print screen control unit 508 refers to the preset information determined in step S804, and displays the multiple presets included in the preset information on the print setting screen. The multiple presets included in the preset information are displayed in the state in which the priority order has been changed in the printing device 101. Then, one preset can be selected from among these presets. For example, the presets included in the response operation 1304 are "draft", "staple", and "eco staple" from the top. In this case, the presets displayed on the information processing device 105 are arranged in the order of "draft", "staple", and "eco staple" from the top, which is similar to the options 1012 on the print setting screen 1011 shown in FIG. 10.
[0075] The print setting screen 1011 includes items 1011a, 1011b, 1011c, 1011d, 1011e, 1011f, 1011g, 1011h, and 1011i. The item 1011a displays the name of the printing device 101 used for printing. The item 1011b allows the user to select whether to enable or disable a preset (draft, staple, eco-staple). The item 1011b is set to "none (preset disabled)" by default, but is not limited to this. The item 1011c allows the user to set the number of copies to be printed. The items 1011d and 1011e allow the user to specify the print range. The item 1011f allows the user to specify color printing. The item 1011g allows the user to specify double-sided printing. The item 1011h allows the user to specify the number of pages per sheet of paper (Nup). Item 1011i allows the user to specify finishing options such as stapling and punching.
[0076] The presets included in the printer attribute response 1320 are, from top to bottom, "Staple," "Eco Staple," and "Draft." This is the result of arranging the presets in order of frequency of use through the processes of steps S705, S706, S709, and S712 of the printing device 101. In this case, the presets displayed by the information processing device 105 are, from top to bottom, "Staple," "Eco Staple," and "Draft," as in the preset information 1020 shown in FIG. 10. Also, the options 1022 on the print setting screen 1021 are, from top to bottom, "Staple," "Eco Staple," and "Draft." This is the same as the preset display in "order of frequency of use" set by the printing device 101.
[0077] In step S806, the print screen control unit 508 of the information processing device 105 determines whether the print settings have been completed. If it is determined in step S806 that the print settings have been completed, the process proceeds to step S807. On the other hand, if it is determined in step S806 that the print settings have not been completed, the process remains in step S806 and waits.
[0078] In step S807, the print screen control unit 508 determines whether or not there is a request to print the file opened in step S801 on the printing device 101. If it is determined in step S807 that there is a request to print, the process proceeds to step S808. On the other hand, if it is determined in step S807 that there is no request to print, the process returns to step S802, and the subsequent steps are executed in sequence.
[0079] In step S808, the IPP client control unit 503 performs printing on the printing device 101. As a result, the printing device 101 can use the printing unit 221 and paper processing unit 222 (output means) to perform output based on the preset selected on the information processing device 105 (output of one of "draft," "staple," and "eco-staple").
[0080] However, if the presets are always displayed in the order of the registered presets on the information processing device 105, it may be difficult to find a desired preset, i.e., a preset to be selected, from among these presets, depending on the total number of displayed presets. Therefore, the printing device 101 can prioritize presets based on three conditions: most frequently used, most recently registered, and most recently used. This priority can be directly reflected in the preset display on the information processing device 105. This makes it possible to easily find a desired preset on the information processing device 105, i.e., improves operability when selecting a preset on the information processing device 105.
[0081] <<Second embodiment>> Hereinafter, the second embodiment will be described with reference to FIG. 14, but the differences from the above-mentioned embodiment will be mainly described, and the description of the similar matters will be omitted. FIG. 14 is a flowchart showing the process of registering a preset in the printing device, receiving a print job in which the preset is set from the information processing device, and printing in the printing system according to the second embodiment. As described above, the printing device 101 is communicably connected to two information processing devices 105, that is, the terminal device 103 and the terminal device 104 (see FIG. 1). In this embodiment, the printing device 101 can identify the OS for each information processing device 105. Then, the printing device 101 can transmit a preset in which the priority order is changed according to the identified OS, that is, for each information processing device 105.
[0082] As shown in FIG. 14, steps S1100 to S1102 are the same as steps S701 to S703 in the flowchart shown in FIG.
[0083] In step S1103, IPP attribute control unit 303 acquires the client information of information processing device 105 notified from information processing device 105 in step S1102. This client information includes information such as the OS and OS version of information processing device 105. Then, in step S1103, IPP attribute control unit 303 can acquire information about the OS and OS version of information processing device 105 from the client information in step S1102. In IPP, client information is defined by a "client-info" attribute, and the OS and OS version can be confirmed.
[0084] Steps S1104 to S1111 are the same as steps S704 to S711 in the flowchart shown in Fig. 7. After any of steps S1109 to S1111 is executed, the process proceeds to step S1112.
[0085] In step S1112, the IPP attribute control unit 303 judges, from the client information acquired in step S1103, whether or not the information processing device 105 is a client that displays presets in ASCII code order. In this embodiment, the IPP attribute control unit 303 functions as an identification unit that identifies the OS for each information processing device 105, and can judge, based on the identification result, whether or not the information processing device 105 is a client that displays presets in ASCII code order. Then, if it is judged as a result of the judgment in step S1112 that the client is a client that displays presets in ASCII code order, the process proceeds to step S1113. On the other hand, if it is judged that the client is not a client that displays presets in ASCII code order, the process proceeds to step S1114.
[0086] In step S1113, the priority management unit 305 re-updates the preset information updated in any one of steps S1109 to S1111. In this embodiment, the preset information 1020 shown in FIG. 10, which has been updated in step S1109 to be arranged in descending order of the number of times of use, is re-updated to preset information 1030. Specifically, the preset names in the preset information 1020 are "staple", "eco staple", and "draft", but in the preset information 1030, the preset names are "1. staple", "2. eco staple", and "3. draft". Therefore, in the re-update, a number is added to the beginning of the preset name.
[0087] In step S1114, the IPP print service control unit 301 transmits the printer attributes of the printing device 101, including the preset information 1030 updated again by the priority order management unit 305, to the information processing device 105 as a printer attribute response 1321 (see FIG. 12). This step S1114 corresponds to step S609 in the flowchart shown in FIG. 6. Then, the information processing device 105, which displays the presets in ASCII code order, can receive the response 1321. This allows the information processing device 105 to display the presets in the same manner as the options 1032 on the print setting screen 1031 shown in FIG. 10. This display is, from top to bottom, "1. Staple," "2. Eco Staple," and "3. Draft," in accordance with the settings of the printing device 101.
[0088] Steps S1115 to S1118 are the same as steps S713 to S716 in the flowchart shown in FIG.
[0089] As described above, in this embodiment, the method of displaying presets can be switched depending on the client information of the information processing device 105, i.e., whether or not the presets can be displayed in ASCII code order.
