Abstract
Description
[Technical field]
[0001] An embodiment of the present invention relates to a magnetic recording and reproducing device. [Background technology]
[0002] Contamination of the media and heads can cause problems in magnetic recording and playback devices. For this reason, conventionally, activated carbon is attached to the breathing filter to adsorb organic outgassing. However, the breathing filter is far from the head and media, and the gas adsorption efficiency near the media and head is poor. In addition, activated carbon is prone to generating particles, so its use is limited from the perspective of processing. There is a technology in which graphene particles are enclosed in a container and attached to the inside of the HDD to adsorb gases instead of activated carbon, but the improvement in processability and particle generation is not sufficient. [0007] The magnetic recording and reproducing device according to the embodiment includes a housing that houses a magnetic recording medium and a magnetic head that records or reproduces magnetic information on the magnetic recording medium, and a synthetic adsorbent material containing a polystyrene-divinylbenzene copolymer provided within the housing. According to the embodiment, by using a synthetic adsorbent containing a polystyrene-divinylbenzene copolymer, it becomes possible to adsorb organic gases without generating dust such as particles, thereby reducing contamination.
[0008] The synthetic adsorbent material can be applied to at least a portion of a component within the housing, or the synthetic adsorbent material can be provided in a gap between the magnetic recording medium and the housing. The term "apply" as used herein includes the following configuration. For example, the components may be made of a synthetic adsorbent material, or the components may be made of a mixture of a synthetic adsorbent material and other materials. Furthermore, for example, the component may have a component body and a coating film that is provided on the component body and contains a synthetic adsorbent. A coating film of the synthetic adsorbent may be used as the coating film. An adhesive layer may be further provided between the component body and the coating. For example, an adhesive layer may be laminated on a sheet-shaped synthetic adsorbent to create a synthetic adsorbent adsorption sheet, which may then be attached to the component.
[0009] Parts include the head stack assembly (HSA), inner stopper, VCM sleeve, spoiler, or desiccant housing case. The synthetic adsorbent may be provided on at least a portion of the head stack assembly, for example, on a side surface. The synthetic adsorbent may be provided on at least a portion of the spoiler, for example, on a side surface. The synthetic adsorbent may be provided on at least a portion of the desiccant housing case, the inner stopper, and the VCM sleeve, for example, on the outer surface. Also, the spoiler, the desiccant housing case, the inner stopper, and the VCM sleeve may each be formed of a synthetic adsorbent or a mixed material containing the synthetic adsorbent and another material. The synthetic adsorbent provided in the gap between the magnetic recording medium and the housing can be formed in a plate, which can have a mesh-like perforated structure, such as a lattice structure or a honeycomb structure. The synthetic adsorbent used may have a functional group added to the surface, if necessary.
[0010] The embodiment will be described in detail below with reference to examples. EXAMPLES
[0011] Example 1 Example 1 shows, as an example of applying a synthetic adsorbent to a component inside a housing, a case in which a synthetic adsorbent sheet is attached to the component or a synthetic adsorbent layer is applied to the component. The synthetic adsorbent can be installed in a location that is perpendicular to the airflow direction during operation or in a location where the airflow fluctuates. This increases the probability of the synthetic adsorbent colliding with the organic gas, which is expected to increase the adsorption efficiency.
[0012] Synthetic adsorbents can be installed by attaching a sheet of synthetic resin with adhesive, or by applying it in liquid form and leaving it to harden. There are a few things to be careful of when it comes to adhesives. For example, the sides of the HSA are made of aluminum, which has a high coefficient of thermal expansion. If a thermosetting adhesive is used, the adsorbent may be damaged by thermal stress during adhesion, so it is best to use a UV-curing adhesive. However, depending on the material of the HSA and the heat resistance of the adsorbent, thermosetting resins can be used.
[0013] Also, depending on the synthetic adsorbent, it is possible to adjust the adhesive so that it does not contain incompatible components. Since resins are generally weak against organic solvents, the adhesive can be cured immediately after application without waiting for a while. Even if an adhesive that contains easily soluble adhesive components is selected, it is possible to achieve a stronger bond by dissolving the grounding part to the extent that the pore structure is not destroyed.
[0014] Hereinafter, embodiments will be described with reference to the drawings. The disclosure is merely an example, and appropriate modifications that are within the spirit of the invention and that can be easily conceived by a person skilled in the art are naturally included in the scope of the present invention. In addition, in order to make the explanation clearer, the width, thickness, shape, etc. of each part may be shown diagrammatically compared to the actual embodiment, but these are merely examples and do not limit the interpretation of the present invention. In this specification and each figure, elements similar to those described above with respect to the previous figures may be given the same reference numerals, and detailed explanations may be omitted as appropriate.
[0015] As a disk device, a hard disk drive (HDD) according to a first embodiment will be described in detail. Example 1-1 Example 1-1 shows an example in which HSA is used as a part to which a synthetic adsorbent is applied. FIG. 1 is an exploded perspective view of an HDD according to Example 1-1 with the cover removed, and FIG. 2 is a plan view of the HDD according to Example 1-1 with the cover removed. As shown in FIG. 1, the HDD 100-1 includes a rectangular housing 10. The housing 10 has a rectangular box-shaped base 12 with an open top, and a cover (top cover) 14. The base 12 has a rectangular bottom wall 12a and a side wall 12b standing along the periphery of the bottom wall, and is integrally molded from aluminum, for example. The cover 14 is formed into a rectangular plate from stainless steel, for example. The cover 14 is fixed onto the side wall 12b of the base 12 with a plurality of screws 13, and air-tightly closes the upper opening of the base 12.
[0016] As shown in FIG. 1 and FIG. 2, the housing 10 is provided with a plurality of magnetic disks 18 (for example, ten) as disk-shaped recording media, and a spindle motor 19 for supporting and rotating the magnetic disks 18. The spindle motor 19 is disposed on the bottom wall 12a. Each magnetic disk 18 has a substrate formed in a disk shape having a diameter of, for example, 95 mm (3.5 inches) and made of a non-magnetic material, for example, glass, and a magnetic recording layer formed on the upper surface (first surface) and lower surface (second surface) of the substrate. Each magnetic disk 18 is coaxially fitted to a hub of the spindle motor 19, which will be described later, and is further clamped by a clamp spring 20. As a result, the magnetic disks 18 are supported in a state in which they are positioned parallel to the bottom wall 12a of the base 12. The plurality of magnetic disks 18 are rotated by the spindle motor 19 at a predetermined number of revolutions in a rotation direction B. The number of magnetic disks 18 mounted is not limited to ten, but may be nine or less, or more than ten.
[0017] Inside the housing 10, there are provided a plurality of magnetic heads 17 for recording and reproducing information on the magnetic disk 18, and an actuator assembly 22 as an HSA that supports these magnetic heads 17 so that they can move freely relative to the magnetic disk 18. Also provided inside the housing 10 are a voice coil motor (VCM) 24 that rotates and positions the actuator assembly 22, a ramp load mechanism 25 that holds the magnetic heads 17 at an unload position separated from the magnetic disk 18 when the magnetic heads 17 move to the outermost periphery of the magnetic disk 18, a board unit (FPC unit) 21 on which electronic components such as a conversion connector are mounted, and a spoiler 70 made of a synthetic resin such as polycarbonate or a metal. A printed circuit board 27 is screwed to the outer surface of the bottom wall 12a of the base 12. The printed circuit board constitutes a control unit that controls the operation of the spindle motor 19 and also controls the operation of the VCM 24 and the magnetic head 17 via the board unit 21.
[0018] FIG. 3 is a perspective view of a portion of the actuator assembly 22 as viewed from the load position direction. As shown in the figure, the actuator assembly 22 includes an actuator block 29 having a through hole 26, a bearing unit (unit bearing) 28 provided in the through hole 26, and a plurality of arms 32, for example, eleven arms 32 extending from the actuator block 29. In this embodiment, the actuator block 29 and the eleven arms 32 are integrally formed from aluminum or the like to form a so-called E block. The arms 32 are formed, for example, in the shape of a long, thin plate, and extend from the actuator block 29 in a direction perpendicular to a support shaft (not shown) inserted into the through hole 26. The eleven arms 32 are provided in parallel with gaps between them. A suspension assembly 30 can be attached to the extending end 32a of each arm 32. The E block has a support frame 33 extending from the actuator block 29 in the opposite direction to the arm 32, and a voice coil 39 that constitutes a part of the VCM 24 is supported by this support frame 33. As shown in Fig. 1, the voice coil 39 is located between a pair of yokes 37, one of which is fixed to the base 12, and constitutes the VCM 24 together with these yokes 37 and a magnet fixed to one of the yokes.
[0019] Of the side surfaces of each arm 32 except for the extending end 32a, the side surface 32-1 on the upstream side in the rotation direction B of the magnetic disk 18 is provided with a coating containing a synthetic adsorbent as the synthetic adsorbent 1-1. The synthetic adsorbent 1-1 can be provided by attaching a synthetic adsorbent adsorption sheet to the side surface 32-1 of the arm 32 as the component body, or by applying a synthetic adsorbent. This allows organic gases and the like floating above the rotating magnetic disk 18 to be adsorbed by the synthetic adsorbent 1-1 on the upstream side surface 32-1. Note that the attachment position of the synthetic adsorbent 1-1 is not limited to this, and it is also possible to provide the synthetic adsorbent 1-1 on, for example, the downstream side surface, or both the upstream side surface 32-1 and the downstream side surface.
[0020] The polystyrene-divinylbenzene copolymer used in the synthetic adsorbent is a porous material. For example, it has micropores with a pore diameter of 15 angstroms to macropores with a pore diameter of 80 angstroms, a pore volume of 0.1 to 0.8 (ml / g), and a density of 500 to 1500 (m 2 / g) and a moisture content of 35 to 50(%). As such a polystyrene-divinylbenzene copolymer, for example, PuroSorb (Purolite Co., Ltd.), Macronet (registered trademark) MN270 (Purolite Co., Ltd.), etc. can be used.
[0021] Polystyrene-divinylbenzene without functional groups is effective in absorbing siloxane. It is known that siloxane is generated from the adhesive used to attach the ACB damper 35 near the synthetic adsorbent 1-1 in Figure 3. By placing the synthetic adsorbent 1-1, which easily absorbs siloxane, near the source of siloxane generation, it is expected that the amount of siloxane gas inside the HDD can be reduced. As described above, according to Example 1-1, by using the synthetic adsorbent 1-1, it becomes possible to adsorb outgassing without generating dust such as particles, and contamination can be reduced.
[0022] Example 1-2 Example 1-2 shows an example in which a spoiler is used as a part to which the synthetic adsorbent is applied. Next, the spoiler 70-1 of the HDD will be described. FIG. 4 is a plan view of the HDD according to the embodiment 1-2. As shown in the figure, this HDD 100-2 has a configuration similar to that of Figures 1 and 2, except that, instead of a spoiler 70, a spoiler 70-1 made of synthetic resin or metal is provided inside the housing 10, the spoiler 70-1 having a synthetic adsorbent 1-2 as a coating containing a synthetic adsorbent on the side of a blade 74 as part of the main body of the component. FIG. 5 is a cross-sectional view showing a portion of the spoiler and the magnetic disk.
[0023] As shown in Figs. 4 and 5, the spoiler 70-1 has a body 72, a support sleeve 73 provided on the body 72, and a plurality of blades 74 extending substantially vertically from the body 72, and is an integrally molded body made of synthetic resin or metal, and further has a synthetic adsorbent 1-2 provided on the side of the blade 74. The synthetic adsorbent 1-2 can be provided by attaching a synthetic adsorbent adsorption sheet or by applying a synthetic adsorbent. As shown in Fig. 4, the spoiler 70-1 is installed substantially vertically on the bottom wall 12a by mounting the support sleeve 73 on a pivot provided upright on the bottom wall 12a of the base 12. The spoiler 70-1 is disposed upstream of the actuator assembly 22 with respect to the rotation direction B of the magnetic disk 18, near the outer periphery of the magnetic disk 18.
[0024] As shown in Fig. 5, a plurality of blades 74, for example eleven blades, are arranged substantially parallel to each other at a predetermined interval. Except for the topmost blade 74a and the bottommost blade (not shown), the other nine blades 74 extend between the two magnetic disks 18 to be moved and face the outer periphery of the magnetic disk 18 with a gap therebetween. The topmost blade 74a faces the upper surface of the topmost magnetic disk 18 with a gap therebetween. Similarly, the bottommost blade faces the lower surface of the lowermost magnetic disk 18 with a gap therebetween.
[0025] Each blade 74 is formed so that its thickness gradually decreases from the base end to the tip end. The blades 74 of the spoiler 70 rectify the wind generated on the surface of the magnetic disk 18 and reduce wind disturbance to the actuator assembly 22. This makes it possible to suppress vibration of the actuator assembly 22 and improve the head positioning accuracy. In addition, the airflow changes greatly near the spoiler, and it is expected that the synthetic adsorbent 1-2 will adsorb gas before it adheres to the magnetic disk 18. It is thought that gas adsorption is easier in places where the airflow changes greatly. As described above, according to Example 1-2, by using the synthetic adsorbent 1-2, it becomes possible to adsorb the outgas without generating dust such as particles, and contamination can be efficiently reduced.
[0026] Example 2 Example 2 shows a case where the synthetic adsorbent is molded into a part shape and installed inside a HDD. Example 2-1 Example 2-1 shows a case where the internal components of the HDD are molded from a synthetic absorbent resin. Fig. 6 is an exploded perspective view of the HDD according to the embodiment 2-1 with the cover removed, Fig. 7 is a plan view of the HDD according to the embodiment 2-1 with the cover removed, Fig. 8 is a cross-sectional view taken along line AA in Fig. 7, showing the periphery of the screw 24-2 in Fig. 7.
[0027] The material of the parts in the HDD 100-3 can be changed to a synthetic adsorbent as desired. Since the synthetic adsorbent does not generate dust like activated carbon, it can be directly attached to the synthetic adsorbent containing polystyrene-divinylbenzene copolymer without packaging. FIG. 6 has the same configuration as FIG. 1, except that a spoiler 70-2 molded using a synthetic adsorbent is provided instead of the spoiler 70, and a desiccant housing case 100-1 is provided. FIG. 7 has the same configuration as FIG. 2, except that a spoiler 70-2 molded using a synthetic adsorbent is provided instead of the spoiler 70, an inner stopper 11b formed from a synthetic adsorbent, a VCM 24 fixed by a screw 24-2 with a VCM sleeve 24-1 formed from a synthetic adsorbent and a screw 24-7 with a VCM sleeve 24-6 formed from a synthetic adsorbent, a desiccant housing case 120-1 formed from a synthetic adsorbent, and an adsorption filter 23-1 formed from a synthetic adsorbent.
[0028] 6 and 7, the inner stopper 11b can be made of a synthetic adsorbent and can be provided, for example, in a columnar shape on the bottom wall 12a around the VCM 24. By using the inner stopper 11b, it is possible to suppress the impact of the HAS colliding with the column of the VCM when the head is moved to the inner periphery of the magnetic disk 18. 8, the VCM sleeve 24-1 is a cylindrical part that is molded using a synthetic adsorbent and is provided to cover the screw 24-2 that fixes the VCM 24 to the base 12. Providing the VCM sleeve 24-1 makes it difficult for particles from the screw 24-2 to spread inside the HDD 101. In the figure, 24-3 indicates the bottom surface of the VCM, 24-4 indicates the top surface of the VCM, and 24-5 indicates a cover provided on the VCM top surface 24-4. The VCM sleeve 24-6 has a similar configuration to the VCM sleeve 24-1.
[0029] The spoiler 70-2 has a vane 74-1 as shown in FIG. 7, and has the same configuration as the spoiler 70-1 shown in FIG. 4 and FIG. 5, except that the spoiler 70-2 is entirely formed from the synthetic adsorbent material 1-3. The desiccant housing case 120-1 is a case for the desiccant 120 provided in the breathing hole 110 of the cover 14 in FIG. 6, and is made of a synthetic adsorbent. The desiccant 120 is provided for outgas adsorption and humidity reduction. An adsorbent (not shown) can be placed inside the housing case 120-1. For example, activated carbon, silica gel, etc. can be used as the adsorbent. By making the desiccant housing case 120-1 itself out of a synthetic adsorbent, further reduction in outgassing can be expected.
[0030] When molding the synthetic adsorbent into a part shape, strength and elasticity can become an issue depending on the part, but these can be adjusted by mixing the synthetic adsorbent with other resins. The synthetic adsorbent can be applied to at least one of the above-mentioned parts: the inner stopper, the VCM sleeve, the spoiler, and the desiccant housing case. The synthetic adsorbent may be applied to other parts. In this way, according to Example 2-1, by using the synthetic adsorbent, it becomes possible to adsorb outgassing without generating dust such as particles, and contamination can be reduced.
[0031] Example 2-2 Example 2-2 shows a case where a synthetic adsorbent formed into a plate shape is placed as an adsorption filter in the airflow path inside the HDD. 7, a synthetic adsorbent plate 23 formed using a synthetic adsorbent can be installed in an air passage around a magnetic disk 18 in a HDD, such as air passage 15a. Also, instead of air passage 15a, the synthetic adsorbent plate 23 can be installed at any position in the HDD, such as air passage 15b, HSA 22, or the air passage around spoiler 70-2. The synthetic adsorbent plate 23 can be processed into various shapes.
[0032] 9 and 10 are plan views showing the synthetic adsorbent plate used in Example 2-2. The synthetic adsorbent plate 23 can be processed into a plate having a perforated shape, for example, a lattice shape as shown in FIG. 9. Alternatively, it can be processed into a plate 23-1 having a honeycomb structure as shown in FIG. 10. Since the adsorption rate when the outgas passes through increases as the plate thickness increases, it is possible to adjust the perforated shape and thickness as desired within a range that does not interfere with the airflow. Gas adsorption can be expected by placing it in a place where there is an airflow and the gas passes through. In addition, as long as it does not interfere with the airflow and is a position where the outgas hits, it does not need to have holes. When the activated carbon is enclosed, it needs to be packed in a case, but the synthetic adsorbent used in the embodiment can be directly installed in the HDD because there is no risk of dust generation. Therefore, by using a synthetic adsorbent plate formed using a synthetic adsorbent, the volume of the case of the adsorption filter containing the activated carbon can be reduced by the thickness, thereby making it smaller. In addition, it is possible to adsorb the outgas without generating dust such as particles, and contamination can be reduced.
[0033] Example 3 Example 3 shows a case where the adsorption characteristics are selected depending on the presence or absence of functional groups in a polystyrene-divinylbenzene copolymer. Non-functionalized polystyrene-divinylbenzene polymers are effective for adsorbing siloxanes. It is known that siloxane is generated from the adhesive used to attach the ACB damper 35 to the surface 32-2 of the arm 32 parallel to the magnetic disk 18, which is located near the synthetic adsorbent 1-1 in Fig. 3. According to the embodiment, it is expected that the siloxane gas in the HDD can be reduced by installing the synthetic adsorbent 1-1, which easily adsorbs siloxane, near the source of siloxane generation.
[0034] This synthetic adsorbent can be customized to adsorb specific components by adding functional groups. For example, -OH groups can be added to adsorb hydrophilic gases. Other options include those with weakly basic anion functional groups or strong acidic cation functional groups. As described above, according to the third embodiment, by using the synthetic adsorbent, it becomes possible to adsorb the outgas without generating dust such as particles, and it is possible to reduce contamination.
[0035] Although some embodiments of the present invention have been described, these embodiments are presented as examples and are not intended to limit the scope of the invention. These novel embodiments can be implemented in various other forms, and various omissions, substitutions, and modifications can be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
