This allows the sports player to comfortably wear the shin guard 100 while preventing the liner 160 from abrading the upper surface of the sports shoe and general wear. When the hockey skate is worn in the first position, i.e., stored in the pocket 180, the shin guard liner does not directly contact the upper exterior surface of the player's hockey skate, thereby helping to prevent premature wear and tear on the skate. This also prevents such wear and tear on the upper exterior surface of the footwear of baseball players, ball hockey players, field hockey players, soccer players, football players, and other sports players who wear shin guards or shin guards.
