Description

[Technical Field]

[0001] The present disclosure relates to a personal care composition comprising: (a) a volatile alkane mixture comprising about 10% to about 90% by weight of linear alkanes having 9 to 18 carbon atoms and about 10% to about 90% by weight of branched alkanes having 10 to 14 carbon atoms, based on the total weight of the alkane mixture; and (b) one or more crosslinked elastomers. The present disclosure also relates to linear alkanes comprising about 0% to about 5% by weight of n-decane, about 50% to about 80% by weight of n-dodecane, about 1% to about 5% by weight of n-tetradecane, and about 0% to about 5% by weight of n-hexadecane or n-octadecane, based on the total weight of the alkane mixture. The present disclosure further relates to a crosslinked elastomer selected from the group consisting of crosslinked siloxane elastomers, crosslinked polyurethane elastomers, crosslinked polyester elastomers, and combinations thereof. [Background technology]

[0002] Swollen crosslinked polymers are used in personal care formulations to provide a cushiony, powdery afterfeel without a heavy or oily feel. The afterfeel of swollen crosslinked elastomers is often determined by the nature of the solvent used to swell and / or disperse the crosslinked elastomer. Nonvolatile solvents provide a moist, smooth afterfeel, whereas volatile oils provide a dry, powdery afterfeel. Currently used volatile oils include silicone-based solvents such as cyclopentasiloxane and methyl trimethicone, and hydrocarbon-based solvents such as isododecane and isohexadecane. Silicone-based solvents have challenges due to their lack of biodegradability. Volatile hydrocarbon-based solvents such as isododecane (IDD) evaporate too quickly from the skin, causing discomfort and dryness. Other ester-based organic solvents or other hydrocarbon-based solvents such as isohexadecane are nonvolatile and do not meet the need for a dry, powdery, non-sticky afterfeel. When the present disclosure is combined with a crosslinked elastomeric powder, the personal care composition provides a dry, powder-like afterfeel without being overly dry or oily. [0009] In some embodiments, the solvent is a volatile alkane mixture, a silicone solvent, a hydrocarbon solvent, an organic solvent, a fluorinated solvent, or a combination thereof.

Table 1 lists the components of the alkane mixtures of Examples 1-3 and Comparative Examples 1-2. [Table 1] Example 2 Preparation of Personal Care Formulation 1

[0076] Table 2 lists the ingredients of Personal Care Formulation 1 (gel). The procedure for preparing Personal Care Formulation 1 is described below. Alkane Mixture Example 3 and dimethiconol / silsesquioxane copolymer were combined and stirred at 3000 rpm until a uniform solution was formed. Comparative Example 1 and dimethiconol / silsesquioxane copolymer were combined and stirred at 3000 rpm until a uniform solution was formed. Comparative Example 2 and dimethiconol / silsesquioxane copolymer were combined and stirred at 3000 rpm until a uniform solution was formed.

[0077] Table 3 lists the wetting, processability, and viscosity attributes of Formulation Examples 1a-1c. Formulation Example 1a, containing Alkane Mixture Example 3, exhibited better wetting, shorter processing time, and reduced viscosity compared to the benchmark Formulation Examples 1b and 1c.

[0078] Figure 1 shows the volatility of Formulation Examples 1a and 1b. In Figure 1, Formulation Example 1b shows higher volatility compared to Formulation Example 1a. The lower volatility of Formulation Example 1a results in a longer application time and provides greater cushioning compared to Formulation Example 1b, but with a drier feel.
