To provide a gaming machine that can increase players' motivation to play by making it easier, or making it appear easier, to get balls into the prize slots. [Solution] The system includes an upward-facing opening designated prize slot 152, a ball detection means for detecting game balls that have entered the designated prize slot 152, a ball passage 160 wider than the designated prize slot 152, and a ball passage 163 that guides game balls that have passed through the ball passage 160 toward the lower designated prize slot 152. A pair of left and right gaps 167 through which game balls can pass are provided between the ball passage 163 and the designated prize slot 152. Deceleration means 169 and 170 for slowing down game balls are provided in the ball passage 163. If a game ball that has passed through the ball passage 160 does not pass through the gaps 167, it enters the designated prize slot 152 and is detected by the ball detection means when it is discharged from the game area. If it passes through the gaps 167, it is discharged from the game area via either a prize slot other than the designated prize slot 152 or an out slot 138.
