Carbon dioxide capture method and system

Abstract

This specification discloses a method for extracting carbon dioxide from a gas stream, comprising the steps of: recovering CO2 from a first stream containing CO2, such as a wet gas stream, by contacting a CO2 adsorbent with a first stream containing CO2; recovering a portion of water from the wet gas stream or a second stream using a moisture adsorbent material; and regenerating the CO2 adsorbent to generate an output stream containing steam and CO2, comprising the steps of: heating the moisture adsorbent material to release the water recovered by the moisture adsorbent material as steam; and exposing the CO2 adsorbent to the steam to release the recovered CO2 from the CO2 adsorbent and generate an output stream. A system suitable for implementing this method is also disclosed herein.
