Abstract
Description
[Technical field]
[0001] This application claims priority to Chinese Patent Application No. 202011183179.0, entitled “OPTICAL TRANSMISSION DEVICE AND SYSTEM,” filed with the State Intellectual Property Office of the People's Republic of China on October 29, 2020, and is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety.
[0002] This application relates to the field of optical communications technology, and in particular to optical transmission devices and systems. [Background technology]
[0003] 2. Description of the Related Art With the development of society, the demand for data transmission speed is becoming higher and higher. In response to this demand, optical communication technology is widely used due to its characteristics of high transmission speed and high reliability.
[0004] A coherent transmission system is a data transmission system commonly used in the field of optical communication technology. In a coherent transmission system, lasers of the same frequency are arranged at a transmitting end and a receiving end to output the same continuous light. The transmitting end performs data modulation on the continuous light to obtain a signal light, and transmits the signal light to the receiving end. A coherent receiver is arranged at the receiving end. The receiving end inputs the received signal light and the continuous light output by the local laser into the coherent receiver. The continuous light is used as a local oscillator light to perform coherent detection on the signal light and convert the optical signal into an electrical signal.
[0005] In the process of implementing this application, the current technology has at least the following shortcomings:
[0006] The laser has a certain frequency offset. If the frequency difference between the laser at the sending end and the laser at the receiving end is large, the data carried by the signal light cannot be obtained by coherent detection. Therefore, the system requires high precision of the laser. Summary of the Invention
[0007] In order to solve the problem of excessively high precision requirements imposed on lasers in the related art, the embodiments of this application provide an optical transmission device and system. 。
[0008] According to a first aspect, a first optical transmission device 1 is provided. The first optical transmission device 1 includes a plurality of first lasers 11 of different wavelengths, a first optical path component 12, a first modulator 13, and a first processing unit 14. The plurality of first lasers 11 of different wavelengths are optically connected to a plurality of optical input ports of the first optical path component 12, respectively. The first optical path component 12 is configured to perform multiplexing on the continuous light of different wavelengths emitted by the plurality of first lasers 11, and then perform power splitting to obtain the continuous light of two paths, and transmit the continuous light of one path to the first modulator 13 and transmit the continuous light of the other path to the second optical transmission device 2 at the peer end. The first processing unit 14 is configured to transmit a first analog signal to the first modulator 13. The first modulator 13 is configured to modulate a first analog signal onto the continuous light path transmitted by the first optical path component 12 to obtain signal light, and transmit the signal light to the second optical transmission device 2 at the peer end.
[0009] The first optical output port of the first optical path component 12 is optically connected to the optical input port of the first modulator 13. The first processing unit 14 is electrically connected to the electrical input port of the first modulator 13. The first optical transmission device 1 may include an optical port 1001 and an optical port 1002 configured to connect to the second optical transmission device 2. The optical output port of the first modulator 13 may be optically connected to the optical port 1001. The second optical output port of the first optical path component 12 may be optically connected to the optical port 1002. The connection in this embodiment of the application may be a port interconnect, an optical fiber connection, or a connection using another light conducting component. The first optical transmission device 1 may include an electrical port 1005. The first processing unit 14 is electrically connected to the electrical port 1005. The electrical port 1005 is configured to connect to a central processing unit (CPU). When the first optical transmission device 1 is connected to the main board, the first processing unit 14 establishes an electrical connection to the CPU.
[0010] According to the aforementioned configuration of the optical transmission device, the optical path component performs multiplexing on the continuous light of multiple wavelengths, and then performs power splitting to obtain two paths of the continuous light. Therefore, the continuous light output by the first optical output port and the second optical output port of the optical path component are the same. Data modulation is performed on the continuous light output by the first optical output port using a modulator to obtain a signal light, and the signal light is sent to the peer end. The continuous light output by the second optical output port is directly sent to the peer end. In this way, the peer end may use the continuous light as a local oscillator light and perform coherent detection on the signal light to obtain corresponding data. In this way, the frequency offset of the laser does not cause a frequency difference between the signal light and the continuous light. Therefore, this can reduce the precision requirement on the laser. This can also significantly reduce the cost of the laser, especially the overall cost in short-distance transmission applications.
[0011] Additionally, compared with the structure in which a single laser is used as the light source, the structure in which multiple lasers of different wavelengths are used as the light source can effectively control the cost when the power of the signal light and the power of the continuous light received at the receiving end are increased. In this technical field, increasing the power of the single laser causes the cost of the laser to increase rapidly. In long-distance transmission applications, the laser is used in a relatively small amount, so the rapid increase in cost is acceptable. In short-distance transmission applications, the laser is used in a very large amount, so the rapid increase in cost is not acceptable. Additionally, adding optical amplifiers also increases the cost and power consumption rapidly. However, in this embodiment of this application, the power of the signal light and the power of the continuous light only need to be increased by increasing the number of lasers, and the cost increases linearly. Therefore, it is very useful to control the overall cost. Additionally, since the power consumption increases linearly, this is also useful to control the overall power consumption.
[0012] In a possible implementation, the first optical path component 12 is a coupler.
[0013] The coupler may be an Nx2 coupler, for example a 2x2 coupler or a 3x2 coupler. The value of N is determined based on the number of first lasers 11. When a coupler is used, only one component needs to be introduced. This reduces the insertion loss and power dissipation.
[0014] In a possible implementation, the first optical path component 12 includes a first wavelength division multiplexer 121 and a first optical splitter 122, where the first wavelength division multiplexer 121 is configured to perform multiplexing on continuous light of different wavelengths emitted by multiple first lasers 11, and the first optical splitter 122 is configured to perform power splitting on the multiplexed continuous light to obtain continuous light of two paths.
[0015] The first wavelength division multiplexer 121 includes a plurality of optical input ports and one optical output port. The first optical splitter 122 includes one optical input port, a first optical output port, and a second optical output port. The optical output port of the first wavelength division multiplexer 121 is optically connected to the optical input port of the first optical splitter 122.
[0016] In a possible implementation, the first optical transmission device 1 further includes a first demodulator 16. The first demodulator 16 is configured to receive the signal light and the continuous light transmitted by the second optical transmission device 2 of the peer end, perform coherent detection based on the received signal light and the continuous light to obtain a second analog signal, and transmit the second analog signal to the first processing unit 14.
[0017] The first processing unit 14 is electrically connected to the electrical output port of the first demodulator 16. The signal light input port and the local oscillator light input port of the first demodulator 16 are optically connected to the second optical transmission device 2 at the peer end. In this way, the first optical transmission device 1 can not only transmit data but also receive data through optical transmission.
[0018] In a possible implementation, the first optical transmission device 1 further includes a first filter 18 and a second filter 19. The first filter (18) is configured to transmit the signal light emitted by the first modulator (13) to the second optical transmission device (2) of the peer end and transmit the signal light emitted by the second optical transmission device (2) of the peer end to the first demodulator (16). The second filter (19) is configured to transmit the continuous light emitted by the first optical path component (12) to the second optical transmission device (2) of the peer end and transmit the continuous light emitted by the second optical transmission device (2) of the peer end to the first demodulator (16).
[0019] The first filter 18 and the second filter 19 may further be optically connected to a second optical transmission device 2 of the peer end. The first filter 18 includes a first optical port 181, a second optical port 182, and a third optical port 183. The first optical port 181 is an optical input port of the transmitting optical path. The second optical port 182 is an optical output port of the receiving optical path. The third optical port 183 is an optical output port of the transmitting optical path and an optical input port of the receiving optical path. The second filter 19 includes a fourth optical port 191, a fifth optical port 192, and a sixth optical port 193. The fourth optical port 191 is an optical input port of the transmitting optical path. The fifth optical port 192 is an optical output port of the receiving optical path. The sixth optical port 193 is an optical output port of the transmitting optical path and an optical input port of the receiving optical path. The optical output port of the first modulator 13 is optically connected to the first optical port 181 of the first filter 18. The second optical output port of the first optical path processing component 12 is optically connected to the fourth optical port 191 of the second filter 19. The signal optical input port of the first demodulator 16 is optically connected to the second optical port 182 of the first filter 18. The local oscillator optical input port of the first demodulator 16 is optically connected to the fifth optical port 192 of the second filter 19. The third optical port 183 of the first filter 18 may be configured to be optically connected to the second optical transmission device 2 of the peer end. The sixth optical port 193 of the second filter 19 may be configured to be optically connected to the second optical transmission device 2 of the peer end.
[0020] The first filter 18 may be a Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexer (CWDM). The multi-port side of the CWDM includes a first optical port 181 and a second optical port 182, and the single-port side includes a third optical port 183. The first optical port 181 corresponds to a first wavelength range. The second optical port 182 corresponds to a second wavelength range. The third optical port 183 corresponds to a third wavelength range. The different wavelengths corresponding to the multiple first lasers 11 are in the first wavelength range. The different wavelengths corresponding to the multiple second lasers 21 are in the second wavelength range. The third wavelength range is the union of the first wavelength range and the second wavelength range. In this way, the third optical port 183 may transmit bidirectional optical signals to implement a single-fiber bidirectional function. The second filter 19 may also be a CWDM. The setting of the wavelength ranges of the optical ports is the same as that of the first filter 18, and the details will not be described again.
[0021] Based on the aforementioned single-fiber bidirectional structure, the first optical transmission device 1 only requires two external optical ports, which may be optical port 1001 and optical port 1002, respectively. The third optical port 183 of the first filter 18 is optically connected to the optical port 1001. The sixth optical port 193 of the second filter 19 is optically connected to the optical port 1002. In this way, the number of optical fibers connected between the optical transmission devices can be significantly reduced.
[0022] In a possible implementation, the first delay compensation component 10 is separately disposed on the optical path between the first filter 18 and the first demodulator 16, and on the optical path between the second filter 19 and the first demodulator 16. The first delay compensation component 10 includes a first wavelength division demultiplexer 101 and a second wavelength division multiplexer 102, where the wavelengths of the multiple optical output ports of the first wavelength division demultiplexer 101 are the wavelengths of the multiple first lasers 11, respectively, and the wavelengths of the multiple optical input ports of the second wavelength division multiplexer 102 are the wavelengths of the multiple first lasers 11, respectively. Optical fibers are connected between the optical output ports of the first wavelength division demultiplexer 101 and the optical input ports of the second wavelength division multiplexer 102 corresponding to the same wavelengths, where each optical fiber has a different length, and the length of each optical fiber is determined based on the wavelengths corresponding to the optical fibers and the transmission distances between the local end and the peer end.
[0023] The calculation of the optical fiber length corresponding to different wavelengths is as follows: the transmission times of different wavelengths are first determined based on the transmission distance between the local end and the peer end, and the delays of different wavelengths are determined based on the transmission times of different wavelengths, so that the sum of the transmission times and delays corresponding to each wavelength is equal. Then, the corresponding optical fiber length is determined based on the delay and transmission speed of each wavelength.
[0024] In the case of long-distance transmission, due to the effect of first-order dispersion, there exists a delay between the signal lights of different wavelengths. The delay compensation may be performed on the optical path by using the above-mentioned structure to ensure the accuracy of data transmission.
[0025] In a possible implementation, the first demodulator 16 is an Integrated Coherent Receiver (ICR).
[0026] In a possible implementation, the first processing unit 14 includes a first processor 141 and 1.and an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) 143. The first analog-to-digital converter 143 is configured to convert the received second analog signal into a second digital signal and send the second digital signal to the first processor 141.
[0027] The first analog-to-digital converter 143 is separately electrically connected to an electrical output port of the first demodulator 16 and to a first processor 141. The first processor 141 is electrically connected to the electrical port 1005. In this case, the first processor 141 is a digital signal processor.
[0028] In a possible implementation, the first processing unit 14 includes a first processor 141 and 1. and a digital-to-analog converter (DAC) 142. The first processor 141 is configured to send the first digital signal to the first digital-to-analog converter 142. The first digital-to-analog converter 142 is configured to convert the first digital signal to a first analog signal and send the first analog signal to the first modulator 13.
[0029] The first digital-to-analog converter 142 is separately electrically connected to the electrical input port of the first modulator 13 and to a first processor 141. The first processor 141 is electrically connected to the electrical port 1005. In this case, the first processor 141 is a digital signal processor.
[0030] In another possible structure, the first processing unit 14 may only include a separate first processor 141. The first processor 141 is an analog signal processor and may process analog signals directly, either the input or the output being an analog signal.
[0031] In a possible implementation, the first optical transmission device 1 includes a first digital-to-analog converter 142 and a first modulator 13, each corresponding to a wavelength, and the first optical transmission device 1 further includes a second wavelength division demultiplexer 111 and a third wavelength division multiplexer 112. The wavelengths of the multiple optical output ports of the second wavelength division demultiplexer 111 are the wavelengths of the multiple first lasers 11, respectively, and the wavelengths of the multiple optical input ports of the third wavelength division multiplexer 112 are the wavelengths of the multiple first lasers 11, respectively. The first optical output port of the first optical path component 12 is optically connected to an optical input port of the second wavelength division demultiplexer 111, each optical output port of the second wavelength division demultiplexer 111 is optically connected to an optical input port of the first modulator 13 corresponding to the same wavelength, each of the multiple optical input ports of the third wavelength division multiplexer 112 is optically connected to an optical output port of the first modulator 13 corresponding to the same wavelength, and the optical output port of the third wavelength division multiplexer 112 is configured to be optically connected to a transmission device of a peer end. Each first digital-to-analog converter 142 is electrically connected to an electrical input port of the first modulator 13 corresponding to the same wavelength. The internal processing delays of the first digital-to-analog converters 142 corresponding to different wavelengths are different and are determined based on the corresponding wavelengths and the transmission distances between the local end and the peer end.
[0032] Calculation of the delays corresponding to the digital-to-analog converters 142 corresponding to different wavelengths is performed by first determining the transmission times of the different wavelengths based on the transmission distances between the local end and the peer end, and then determining the delays of the different wavelengths based on the transmission times of the different wavelengths, so that the sum of the transmission times and delays corresponding to each wavelength is equal. In this way, the delays corresponding to the first digital-to-analog converters 142 corresponding to different wavelengths are obtained.
[0033] In the case of long-distance transmission, due to the effect of first-order dispersion, there exists a delay between the signal lights of different wavelengths. The delay compensation may be performed on the electrical path by using the above-mentioned structure to ensure the accuracy of data transmission.
[0034] In a possible implementation, the absolute value of the difference between the reciprocals of the wavelengths of any two first lasers (11) is greater than a preset threshold value.
[0035] The preset threshold is the ratio of H to c, where H is the upper limit of the frequency band of the photodetector (PD), and c is the speed of light. According to the above-mentioned setting of the wavelength of the first laser 11, in the coherent detection process, the frequency of the unwanted interferers may be greater than H. In this way, the PD cannot detect these interferers. This can improve the accuracy of the coherent detection.
[0036] In a possible implementation, the first modulator 13 is a dual-polarization IQ modulator (DP-IQM).
[0037] DP-IQM may modulate four different signals on two mutually perpendicular polarizations by using quadrature phase, which can improve the data transmission rate.
[0038] In a possible implementation, the first laser 11 is a Distributed Feedback (DFB) laser.
[0039] In this embodiment of the application, there is no requirement for the frequency offset of the laser. DFB lasers may be used, which can reduce the cost. Additionally, DFB lasers are characterized by low power consumption compared to high-precision lasers. In scenarios where a very large amount of data is transmitted, the power consumption of the entire system can be effectively controlled.
[0040] According to a second aspect, an optical transmission system is provided. The optical transmission system includes a first optical transmission device 1 and a second optical transmission device 2. The second optical transmission device 2 further includes a plurality of second lasers 21 of different wavelengths, a second optical path component 22, and a second modulator 23, and the plurality of second lasers 21 of different wavelengths are optically connected to a plurality of optical input ports of the second optical path component 22, respectively. [0059] According to the aforementioned configuration of the optical transmission device, the optical path component performs multiplexing on the continuous light of multiple wavelengths, and then performs power splitting to obtain two paths of the continuous light.
[0060] Additionally, compared with the structure in which a single laser is used as the light source, the structure in which multiple lasers of different wavelengths are used as the light source can effectively control the cost when the power of the signal light and the power of the continuous light received at the receiving end are increased. [0071] An embodiment of this application provides an optical transmission system. The optical transmission system includes a first optical transmission device 1 and a second optical transmission device 2. The structure of the first optical transmission device 1, the structure of the second optical transmission device 2, and the connection method between the first optical transmission device 1 and the second optical transmission device 2 may be shown in Fig. 1. Hereinafter, the first optical transmission device 1 and the second optical transmission device 2 will be described separately.
[0072] First optical transmission device 1
[0073] The first optical transmission device 1 includes a plurality of first lasers 11 of different wavelengths, a first optical path component 12, a first modulator 13, and a first processing unit 14. The plurality of first lasers 11 of different wavelengths are optically connected to a plurality of optical input ports of the first optical path component 12, respectively. The first optical output port of the first optical path component 12 is optically connected to an optical input port of the first modulator 13. The first processing unit 14 is electrically connected to an electrical input port of the first modulator 13.
[0074] The first optical transmission device 1 may include an optical port 1001 and an optical port 1002 configured to connect to another optical transmission device, for example, a second optical transmission device 2. The optical output port of the first modulator 13 may be optically connected to the optical port 1001. The second optical output port of the first optical path component 12 may be optically connected to the optical port 1002. The connection in the embodiment of this application may be a port interconnection, an optical fiber connection, or a connection using another light conducting component. The first optical transmission device 1 may include an electrical port 1005. The first processing unit 14 is electrically connected to the electrical port 1005. The electrical port 1005 is configured to connect to a CPU. When the first optical transmission device 1 is connected to a main board, the first processing unit 14 establishes an electrical connection to the CPU.
[0075] The first laser 11 may be a DFB laser. Although DFB lasers are characterized by low cost and poor accuracy, they can meet the requirements of this solution. The power of the continuous light generated by the first lasers 11 may be the same or different. Some restrictions may be imposed on the wavelengths of the first lasers 11, and the restriction may be that the absolute value of the difference between the reciprocals of the wavelengths of any two first lasers 11 is greater than a preset threshold. The purpose of such settings will be explained in detail in the following content.
[0076] The first optical path component 12 may be a single device, such as a coupler, or may be a device including multiple components, such as a combination of a wavelength division multiplexer and an optical splitter. Regardless of whether the first optical path component 12 is a single component or a device, the first optical path component 12 has multiple optical input ports and two optical output ports externally, and the multiple optical input ports are optically connected to first lasers 11 of different wavelengths. The first optical path component 12 is configured to perform multiplexing on the continuous light of different wavelengths emitted by the multiple first lasers 11, and then perform power splitting to obtain the continuous light of two paths, and transmit the continuous light of one path to the first modulator 13 through the first optical output port, and transmit the continuous light of the other path to the second modulator 26 of the second optical transmission device 2 at the peer end through the second optical output port. The continuous light obtained by multiplexing is a multiple wavelength λ 11 , λ 12 , ..., and λ 1n Then, power splitting is performed to obtain two identical continuous lights in two paths. The continuous lights in the two paths each have a number of wavelengths λ 11 , λ 12 , ..., and λ 1n has.
[0077] The first processing unit 14 may be a processing unit specially configured to receive and transmit data. The first processing unit 14 is configured to transmit a first analog signal to the first modulator 13. The first processing unit 14 may include only an independent first processor 141. The first processor 141 is an analog signal processor and may directly process analog signals, either the input or the output being analog signals. Alternatively, the first processing unit 14 may include the first processor 141, a first digital-to-analog converter 142, etc. The first digital-to-analog converter 142 is separately electrically connected to the electrical input port of the first modulator 13 and the first processor 141, and the first processor 141 is electrically connected to the electrical port 1005. In this case, the first processor 141 is a digital signal processor.
[0078] When the first processor 141 is an analog signal processor, the first processor 141 is configured to send a first analog signal to the first modulator 13. A digital-to-analog converter is disposed on the connection line between the first processor 141 and the CPU, converts the digital signal output by the CPU into an analog signal, and sends the analog signal to the first processor 141. The first processor 141 processes the analog signal to obtain a first analog signal to be transmitted, and sends the first analog signal to be transmitted to the first modulator 13.
[0079] When the first processor 141 is a digital signal processor, the CPU may output a digital signal to the first processor 141, which performs preset processing on the digital signal to obtain a first digital signal to be transmitted, and the first processor 141 transmits the first digital signal to the first digital-to-analog converter 142, which converts the first digital signal into a first analog signal, and transmits the first analog signal to the first modulator 13. Alternatively, the first processor 141 may directly transmit the digital signal to the first digital-to-analog converter 142 without processing the digital signal transmitted by the CPU. In this case, the digital signal is the first digital signal.
[0080] The first modulator 13 may be a DP-IQM, which may modulate four different paths of signals on two mutually perpendicular polarizations by using quadrature phase. The first modulator 13 is configured to modulate a first analog signal onto the path of continuous light sent by the first optical path component 12 to obtain a signal light, and send the signal light to the second demodulator 26. When the modulation is performed, the signal is modulated into a continuous light of each wavelength. The signal is the same, the first analog signal.
[0081] Second optical transmission device 2
[0082] The second optical transmission device 2 has a second processing unit 24 and a second demodulator 26. The second processing unit 24 is electrically connected to an electrical output port of the second demodulator 26. The optical output port of the first modulator 13 is optically connected to a signal light input port of the second demodulator 26. The second optical output port of the first optical path component 12 is optically connected to a local oscillator light input port of the second demodulator 26.
[0083] The second optical transmission device 2 may include an optical port 2001 and an optical port 2002 configured to connect to another optical transmission device, for example, the first optical transmission device 1. A signal optical input port of the second demodulator 26 may be optically connected to the optical port 2001. A local oscillator optical input port of the second demodulator 26 may be optically connected to the optical port 2002. The optical port 2001 may be optically connected to the optical port 1001. The optical port 2002 may be optically connected to the optical port 1002. The second optical transmission device 2 may include an electrical port 2005. The second processing unit 24 is electrically connected to the electrical port 2005. The electrical port 2005 is configured to connect to a CPU. When the second optical transmission device 2 is connected to a main board, the second processing unit 24 establishes an electrical connection to the CPU.
[0084] The second demodulator 26 may be an ICR. The second demodulator 26 is configured to perform coherent detection based on the received signal light and the continuous light to obtain a first analog signal, and send the first analog signal to the second processing unit 24.
[0085] The second processing unit 24 may be a processing unit specially configured to receive and transmit data. The second processing unit 24 may include only an independent first processor 241. The second processor 241 may be an analog signal processor and may directly process analog signals, either the input or the output being an analog signal. Alternatively, the second processing unit 24 may include only a first processor 241. Second The second analog-to-digital converter 243 may include an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) 243, which is separately electrically connected to the electrical output port of the second demodulator 26 and to a second processor 241, which is electrically connected to the electrical port 2005. In this case, the second processor 241 is a digital signal processor.
[0086] When the second processor 241 is an analog signal processor, the second processor 241 directly receives the first analog signal transmitted by the second demodulator 26, and processes the first analog signal to obtain a processed analog signal. 2 Processor 2 41 and the CPU. 2 Processor 2 The analog signal processed by 41 is converted into a digital signal, and the digital signal is sent to the CPU.
[0087] When the first processor 141 is a digital signal processor, the second demodulator 26 sends the first analog signal to the second analog-to-digital converter 243, which converts the received first analog signal into a first digital signal and sends the first digital signal to the second processor 241. The second processor 241 processes the first digital signal and sends the processed digital signal to the CPU.
[0088] In the above-mentioned optical transmission system, the first optical transmission device 1 is a transmitting end, and the second optical transmission device 2 is a receiving end. The following describes the procedure of data transmission. Please refer to FIG. 2. The processing by the first optical transmission device 1 may include the following steps. In the following steps, the case where the first processor 141 and the second processor 241 are digital signal processors is used as an example. Other cases are similar, and will not be described in detail again in this embodiment.
[0089] Step 201 : The first processor 141 sends a digital signal to the first digital-to-analog converter 142 .
[0090] In one implementation, the first processor 141 may obtain data generated locally or transmitted by other parts and to be transmitted to the optical transmission device of the peer end to obtain a corresponding digital signal. Then, the first processor 141 may perform digital signal processing (DSP) on the digital signal. The DSP may be a pre-processing performed on the digital signal based on the predicted interference in the optical transmission process. This can offset the interference in the optical transmission process to a certain extent. Finally, the processor 14 sends the digital signal obtained through processing to the first digital-to-analog converter 142.
[0091] Step 202 : The first digital-to-analog converter 142 converts the digital signal into an analog signal, and sends the analog signal to the first modulator 13 .
[0092] Step 203: A plurality of first lasers 11 each transmit continuous light of a different wavelength to a first optical path component 12.
[0093] Step 204: The first optical path component 12 multiplexes the continuous light of different wavelengths emitted from the multiple first lasers 11, then performs power splitting to obtain the continuous light of two paths, and transmits the continuous light of one path to the first modulator 13 through the first optical output port, and transmits the continuous light of the other path to the optical transmission device at the peer end through the second optical output port. Specifically, the first optical path component 12 may transmit the continuous light of the other optical path to the signal light input port of the second demodulator 26 of the second optical transmission device 2 at the peer end.
[0094] It should be noted that steps 201 and 202, and steps 203 and 204 are executed in parallel and have no sequence.
[0095] Step 205: The first modulator 13 modulates the analog signal onto the continuous light path transmitted by the first optical path component 12 to obtain the signal light, and transmits the signal light to the optical transmission device at the peer end. Specifically, the first modulator 13 may transmit the signal light to a local oscillator optical input port of the second demodulator 26 of the second optical transmission device 2 at the peer end.
[0096] Refer to Figure 3. The process performed by the second optical transmission device 2 may include the following steps.
[0097] Step 301 : The second demodulator 26 performs coherent detection based on the received signal light and the continuous light to obtain an analog signal, and sends the analog signal to the second analog-to-digital converter 243 .
[0098] In one implementation, the optical transmission device of the peer end may be the first optical transmission device 1, the signal light input port of the second demodulator 26 may receive the signal light transmitted by the first optical transmission device 1, and the local oscillator light input port of the second demodulator 26 may receive the continuous light transmitted by the first optical transmission device 1. The second demodulator 26 performs coherent detection on the signal light by using the continuous light as the local oscillator light, and converts the optical signal into an electrical signal. The electrical signal is an analog signal. The analog signal is then sent to the second analog-to-digital converter 243.
[0099] Step 302 : The second analog-to-digital converter 243 converts the received analog signal into a digital signal, and sends the digital signal to the second processor 241 .
[0100] The process of the second demodulator 26 performing coherent detection is described in detail below. An example is used in which the second demodulator 26 is an ICR, has two first lasers 11 with different wavelengths, and detects the I component of one polarization of the signal light (the signal light includes two polarizations, and there are two I and Q components on each polarization), and the different lasers have the same polarization and the same power. Other cases are similar, and will not be described in detail again in this embodiment.
[0101] Please refer to the diagram of the internal structure of the ICR shown in Figure 4. Figure 4 shows a part of the structure of the ICR. In the ICR, the structure shown in Figure 4 is provided for each component. The signal light E s and the local oscillator light E lo contains two components at different frequencies, i.e.
number
[0102] A s (t) is the complex amplitude of the signal light, and ω1 and ω2 are the angular frequencies of the light of different wavelengths. lo is the amplitude of the local oscillator light, which is a fixed value. The signal lights E1 and E2 passing through the coupler are respectively as follows:
number
[0103] E1 and E2 are input to two PDs respectively, and the PDs detect the intensity of the input light. The detection process may be expressed by the following equation:
number
[0104] P S and P lo are the intensities of light of any wavelength in the signal light and the local oscillator light, respectively, and θ Sis the signal phase. Regarding the fourth to last terms on the right side of the equation, when the difference between ω1 and ω2 is large enough, the frequencies corresponding to these terms exceed the upper limit of the frequency bandwidth of the PD. In this case, these terms are not detected by the PD and may be ignored. In this case, the photocurrents I1(t) and I2(t) obtained through optical-to-electrical conversion by the two PDs are respectively as follows:
number
[0105] Finally, the results obtained through balanced detection are as follows:
number
[0106] In general, when a single laser is used as the light source, the results obtained through balanced detection are as follows:
number
[0107] It can be seen that when using two lasers of different wavelengths as the light source, the amplitude of the resulting signal doubles compared to using a single laser as the light source, which is equivalent to a 3 dB increase in the output power of the single laser.
[0108] The frequency f of any one of the fourth to last terms may be expressed as follows:
number
[0109] The upper limit of the frequency bandwidth of the PD is expressed as H. To prevent these terms from being detected by the PD, the following condition is satisfied:
number
[0110] Below, ω1 and ω2 are expressed as λ 11 and λ 12 is obtained by converting
number
[0111] From the above calculation process, it can be seen that, compared with the structure in which a single laser is used as a light source, the above-mentioned structure of the optical transmission device can effectively control the cost when the power of the signal light and the continuous light received by the receiving end is improved. In this technical field, increasing the power of the single laser will cause the cost of the laser to increase sharply. In long-distance transmission applications, the laser is used in a relatively small amount, so the sharp increase in cost is acceptable. In short-distance transmission applications, the laser is used in a very large amount, so the sharp increase in cost is not acceptable. In addition, adding an optical amplifier will also increase the cost and power consumption sharply. However, in this embodiment of this application, the power of the signal light and the power of the continuous light only need to be increased by increasing the number of lasers, and the cost increases linearly. Therefore, it is very useful to control the overall cost. In addition, because the power consumption increases linearly, this is also useful to control the overall power consumption.
[0112] Additionally, the optical path component performs multiplexing on the continuous light of multiple wavelengths and performs power splitting to obtain two paths of the continuous light. Therefore, the continuous light output by the first optical output port and the second optical output port of the optical path component are completely the same. Data modulation is performed on the continuous light output by the first optical output port using a modulator to obtain a signal light, and the signal light is sent to the peer end. The continuous light output by the second optical output port is sent directly to the peer end. In this way, the peer end may use the continuous light as a local oscillator light and perform coherent detection on the signal light to obtain corresponding data. In this way, the frequency offset of the laser does not cause a frequency difference between the signal light and the continuous light. Therefore, this can reduce the precision requirements for the laser. This can also significantly reduce the cost of the laser, and can significantly reduce the overall cost, especially in short-distance transmission applications. A common DFB laser may be used. This can reduce the cost. Additionally, the DFB laser is characterized by a smaller power consumption than a high-precision laser. In scenarios where extremely large amounts of data are transmitted, the power consumption of the entire system can be effectively controlled.
[0113] The first optical transmission device 1 has a data transmission function, and the second optical transmission device 2 has a data reception function. Additionally, the second optical transmission device 2 may have a data transmission function, and the first optical transmission device 1 may also have a data reception function. Correspondingly, FIG. 5 may show the structure of the first optical transmission device 1, the structure of the second optical transmission device 2, and the connection method between the first optical transmission device 1 and the second optical transmission device 2. Hereinafter, the first optical transmission device 1 and the second optical transmission device 2 will be described separately. In the following content, an example is used in which the first processing unit 14 includes a first processor 141, a first digital-to-analog converter 142, and a first analog-to-digital converter 143, and the second processing unit 24 includes a second processor 241, a second digital-to-analog converter 242, and a second analog-to-digital converter 243. The other cases are the same as the contents of the above-mentioned embodiments. [0121] The second modulator 23 is configured to modulate the first analog signal onto the continuous light path transmitted by the second optical path component 22 to obtain signal light, and transmit the signal light to the first demodulator 16.
[0122] The specific functions and structures of the above-mentioned components are similar to those of the first optical transmission device 1, and the description of the first optical transmission device 1 in the above-mentioned embodiment may be referred to.
[0123] First optical transmission device 1
[0124] Based on the structure of Fig. 1, the first optical transmission device 1 may further include a first demodulator 16. The second processing unit 14 further includes a first digital-to-analog converter 143. The first analog-to-digital converter 143 is separately electrically connected to the electrical output port of the first demodulator 16 and the first processor 141. The signal optical input port of the first demodulator 16 is optically connected to the optical output port of the second modulator 23. The local oscillator optical input port of the first demodulator 1 is optically connected to the second optical output port of the second optical path component 22.
[0125] The first optical transmission device 1 may include an optical port 1003 and an optical port 1004 configured to connect to another optical transmission device, for example, a second optical transmission device 2. The signal optical input port of the second demodulator 16 may be optically connected to the optical port 1003. The local oscillator optical input port of the first demodulator 16 may be optically connected to the optical port 1004. The optical port 1003 may be optically connected to the optical port 2003. The optical port 1004 may be optically connected to the optical port 2004. The data port of the first processor 141 is electrically connected to the output port of the first analog-to-digital converter 143. The input port of the first processing unit 143 is electrically connected to the electrical output port of the first demodulator 16.
[0126] The first demodulator 16 is configured to perform coherent detection based on the received signal light and the continuous light to obtain a second analog signal, and transmit the second analog signal to the first analog-to-digital converter 143.
[0127] The first analog-to-digital converter 143 is configured to convert the received second analog signal into a second digital signal and send the second digital signal to the first processor 141. The first processor 141 sends the second digital signal to the CPU, or performs preset DSP processing on the second digital signal and sends the processed digital signal to the CPU.
[0128] The specific functions and structures of the above-mentioned components are similar to those of the second optical transmission device 2, and the description of the second optical transmission device 2 in the above-mentioned embodiment may be referred to.
[0129] Based on the optical transmission system of FIG. 5, the first optical transmission device 1 may be a transmitting end or a receiving end, and the second optical transmission device 2 may be a receiving end or a transmitting end. The process of the first optical transmission device 1 sending data to the second optical transmission device 2 is described above. The process of the second optical transmission device 2 sending data to the first optical transmission device 1 is similar to the process of the first optical transmission device 1 sending data to the second optical transmission device 2. Details are not described in this embodiment of the application.
[0130] The first optical path component 12 may be a coupler. As shown in FIG. 6, the coupler may be an N×2 coupler, for example, a 2×2 coupler or a 3×2 coupler. The value of N is determined based on the number of first lasers 11. When a coupler is used, only one component needs to be introduced. This reduces the insertion loss and power dissipation.

The optical output port of the first wavelength division multiplexer 121 is optically connected to the optical input port of the first optical splitter 122.
[0132] The multiple optical input ports of the first wavelength division multiplexer 121 are the multiple optical input ports of the first optical path component 12. The first optical output port and the second optical output port of the first optical splitter 122 are the first optical output port and the second optical output port of the first optical path component 12. The first wavelength division multiplexer 121 is configured to perform multiplexing on the continuous light of different wavelengths output by the multiple first lasers 11. The first optical splitter 122 is configured to perform power splitting on the multiplexed continuous light to obtain the continuous light of the two paths, and to obtain the completely identical continuous light of the two paths. The wavelength division multiplexer has a certain insertion loss, but a wavelength division multiplexer with a low insertion loss may be used, and the corresponding insertion loss is acceptable.
[0133] The second optical path component 22 may also be a coupler. The coupler may be an M×2 coupler, for example a 2×2 coupler or a 3×2 coupler. The value of M is determined based on the number of first lasers 21.
[0134] The second optical path component 22 includes a fourth wavelength division multiplexer 221 and a second optical splitter 222. [0152] In this embodiment of the application, in the case of long-distance transmission, due to the effect of first-order dispersion, there exists a delay between signal lights of different wavelengths. Therefore, the delay compensation may be performed using a specific structure. Correspondingly, as shown in FIG. 9, the first optical transmission device 1 may have a structure in which a first delay compensation device 10 is separately disposed on the optical path between the first filter 18 and the first demodulator 16 and on the optical path between the second filter 19 and the first demodulator 16. The first delay compensation component 10 includes a first wavelength division demultiplexer 101 and a second wavelength division multiplexer 102, and the wavelengths of the multiple optical output ports of the first wavelength division demultiplexer 101 are the wavelengths of the multiple first lasers 11, respectively, and the wavelengths of the multiple optical input ports of the second wavelength division multiplexer 102 are the wavelengths of the multiple first lasers 11, respectively. Optical fibers are connected between an optical output port of the first wavelength division demultiplexer 101 and an optical input port of the second wavelength division multiplexer 102 corresponding to the same wavelength, each optical fiber has a different length, and the length of each optical fiber is determined based on the wavelength corresponding to the optical fiber and the transmission distance between the local end and the peer end.
[0153] In the implementation, the first wavelength division demultiplexer 101 may perform demultiplexing on the signal light or continuous light received from the optical transmission device of the peer end, and then transmit the light of different wavelengths through different lengths of fibers. After transmission, multiplexing is performed to obtain signal light or continuous light of multiple wavelengths, and the signal light or continuous light is input to the subsequent component. The calculation of the length of the optical fiber corresponding to the different wavelengths is performed such that the transmission time of the different wavelengths is first determined based on the transmission distance between the local end and the peer end, and the delay of the different wavelengths is determined based on the transmission time of the different wavelengths, so that the sum of the transmission time and delay corresponding to each wavelength is equal. Then, the corresponding length of the optical fiber is determined based on the delay and transmission speed of each wavelength. Delay compensation may be performed on the optical path by using the above-mentioned structure to ensure the accuracy of data transmission.
[0154] The second optical transmission device 2 may have a structure in which the second delay compensation component 20 is separately disposed on the optical path between the third filter 28 and the second demodulator 26 and on the optical path between the fourth filter 29 and the second demodulator 26. The second delay compensation component 20 includes a third wavelength division demultiplexer 201 and a fourth wavelength division multiplexer 202, and the wavelengths of the multiple optical output ports of the third wavelength division demultiplexer 201 are the wavelengths of the multiple second lasers 21, respectively, and the wavelengths of the multiple optical input ports of the fifth wavelength division multiplexer 202 are the wavelengths of the multiple second lasers 21, respectively. An optical fiber is connected between the optical output port of the third wavelength division demultiplexer 201 and the optical input port of the fifth wavelength division multiplexer 202 corresponding to the same wavelength, and each optical fiber has a different length, and the length of each optical fiber is determined based on the wavelength corresponding to the optical fiber and the transmission distance between the local end and the peer end.
[0155] The delay compensation component in the second optical transmission device 2 is the same as the delay compensation component in the first optical transmission device 1, and the details are not described again here.
[0156] The above provides a structure for delay compensation for an optical path, and the following provides a structure for delay compensation for an electrical path. Correspondingly, as shown in FIG. 10, the first optical transmission device 1 includes a first digital-to-analog converter 142 and a first modulator 13, which respectively correspond to the wavelengths of the first lasers 11, and the first optical transmission device 1 further includes a second wavelength division demultiplexer 111 and a third wavelength division multiplexer 112.
[0157] In the implementation, before the continuous light output from the first optical output port of the first optical path component 12 enters the first modulator 13, the continuous light first enters the second wavelength division demultiplexer 11 for demultiplexing to obtain multiple continuous lights of different wavelengths. These wavelengths are respectively the same as the wavelength of the first laser 11, and the continuous lights of different wavelengths are respectively input to the optical input ports of different first modulators 13. Additionally, the processor inputs the digital signal separately to multiple first digital-to-analog converters 142 corresponding to different wavelengths. The digital signals input to different first digital-to-analog converters 142 may be the same. Delay paths with different delays are arranged inside the first digital-to-analog converters 142 of different wavelengths to respectively convert the digital signals to analog signals, and a certain delay is added to the processing time in the conversion process. Then, the analog signal is input to the corresponding first modulator 13, and the analog signal and the continuous light of different wavelengths are modulated by the first modulator 13 to obtain the signal light of different wavelengths, and the signal light is input to the third wavelength division multiplexer 112 for multiplexing to obtain the signal light of multiple wavelengths. In this case, the time points at which the analog signal is modulated on the signal light of different wavelengths are different. The calculation of the delay corresponding to the digital-to-analog converter 142 corresponding to different wavelengths is performed such that the transmission times of the different wavelengths are first determined based on the transmission distance between the local end and the peer end, and the delays of the different wavelengths are determined based on the transmission times of the different wavelengths, so that the sum of the transmission times and delays corresponding to each wavelength is equal. In this way, the delay corresponding to the first digital-to-analog converter 142 corresponding to different wavelengths is obtained. The delay corresponding to the first digital-to-analog converter 142 may be implemented in a manner such as a delayer. The delay compensation may be performed on the electrical path by using the above-mentioned structure to ensure the accuracy of the data transmission.
[0158] The second optical transmission device 2 may have a structure in which the second optical transmission device 2 includes a second digital-to-analog converter 242 and a second modulator 23, each corresponding to the wavelength of the second laser 21, and the second optical transmission device 2 further includes a fourth wavelength division demultiplexer 211 and a sixth wavelength division multiplexer 212. The wavelengths of the multiple optical output ports of the fourth wavelength division demultiplexer 211 are the wavelengths of the multiple second lasers 21, respectively, and the wavelengths of the multiple optical input ports of the sixth wavelength division multiplexer 212 are the wavelengths of the multiple second lasers 21, respectively. A first optical output port of the second optical path component 22 is optically connected to an optical input port of the fourth wavelength division demultiplexer 211, each optical output port of the fourth wavelength division demultiplexer 211 is optically connected to an optical input port of the second modulator 23 corresponding to the same wavelength, each of the multiple optical input ports of the sixth wavelength division multiplexer 212 is optically connected to an optical output port of the second modulator 23 corresponding to the same wavelength, and the optical output port of the sixth wavelength division multiplexer 212 is configured to be optically connected to a transmission device of a peer end. Each second digital-to-analog converter 242 is electrically connected to an electrical input port of the second modulator 23 corresponding to the same wavelength. The internal processing delays of the second digital-to-analog converters 242 corresponding to different wavelengths are different and are determined based on the corresponding wavelengths and the transmission distances between the local end and the peer end.
[0159] The delay compensation component in the second optical transmission device 2 is the same as the delay compensation component in the first optical transmission device 1, and the details are not described again here.
[0160] In addition to the delay compensation on the optical path and the delay compensation on the electrical path, the first optical transmission device 1 may also perform delay compensation of the first processing unit 14. The device structure is similar to that of FIG. 10, but the difference is that the delays of the multiple first digital-to-analog converters 142 are the same. Before sending the digital signal to the first digital-to-analog converters 142 corresponding to different wavelengths, the first processing unit 14 performs delay. The calculation method of the delay corresponding to different wavelengths is the same as the calculation method for delay compensation performed on the electrical path. The second optical transmission device 2 may also use delay compensation in this manner.
[0161] In the above embodiment, a solution is described using an optical transmission system including a first optical transmission device 1 and a second optical transmission device 2. In practice, the first optical transmission device 1 does not necessarily need to be used in cooperation with the second optical transmission device 2. As long as the optical transmission device includes a demodulator with coherent detection function and both its signal light input port and local oscillator light input port are optically connected to an external device, the first optical transmission device 1 may be used in cooperation with the optical transmission device.
