[0001] CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS This application is a continuation-in-part application under 35 U.S.C. 120 of co-pending U.S. Patent Application Publication No. 16 / 281,361, filed February 21, 2019, which is incorporated by reference in its entirety.
[0002] The present technology relates to an animal waste collection and storage system for use in connection with collecting and storing animal waste, and more particularly, to a retractable animal tether device in combination with a bag-style receptacle and a removable storage container. [Background technology]
[0003] For a long time, ropes have been in existence for controlling and holding pets during walks or for tying pets to objects. Devices for restraining, controlling, and limiting the distance a pet or animal can roam from a tied point or person are well known in the art. Generally, these devices have one single purpose of restraining or manipulating an animal. One problem associated with such devices is that the rope is occupied by at least one hand of the user, which makes it difficult to easily carry other items that may be useful or necessary to the user. Thus, pet accessory items such as ball throwers, waste bag-type receptacles, and / or storage containers may be left behind. Thus, while a person is walking their pet, certain items are very urgently needed but tend not to be at hand.
[0004] Pet owners take their pets out to the park for walks. Typically, when out in the open, the animals may defecate, and the person accompanying them becomes responsible for the collection and disposal of any feces. Additionally, it is noted that some local governments have rules that require people accompanying animals to collect and properly dispose of any feces. Failure to comply with these rules may result in a ticket or fine. Thus, many pet owners follow the law and / or good sense of personal responsibility for the collection and disposal of waste deposited in public spaces by their pets.
[0005] Picking up pet waste can be a tedious and harmful task, requiring the pet owner to take a bag with the waste and then carry the bag filled with waste. The process of collecting pet waste is generally done by hand and involves placing the hand inside the bag, using the bag covered hand to grab the waste, and rolling the bag to enclose the waste. After collecting the waste in the bag, the pet owner then needs to place a suitable trash can for proper disposal of the waste. During this time, the pet owner is required to carry the bag containing the pet waste, which may burst, thereby leaking the pet waste onto the pet owner, the pet, on the ground, or into the car.
[0006] In addition, pet owners like to throw a ball to their pets, and the pets chase, retrieve and play with the ball, thereby providing training to the pets. Many pet owners like to use retractable ropes that change the distance the dog can wander depending on the environment, and the pet owners like to use ball throwers to throw the ball over long distances without straining their arms by repeatedly throwing the ball. Holding a retractable pet rope in one hand and a ball thrower in the other hand results in no free hand, and therefore there is a need for a combination of combined functions and pet ropes.
[0007] Other rope devices exist that are designed for restraining pets, and while these rope devices may be suitable for the purposes for which they were designed, they would not be suitable for the purposes of the present technology thus far described.
[0008] It is therefore desirable to provide a device that combines a retractable rope, a waste bag receptacle, a removable disposable bag storage container, and an attachable ball thrower.
[0009] Thus, there exists a need for a new and novel animal waste collection and storage system that can be used to collect and store animal waste. In this regard, the present technology substantially fulfills this need. In this regard, the animal waste collection and storage system in accordance with the present technology substantially departs from the conventional concepts and designs of the prior art, thereby providing an apparatus developed primarily for the purpose of collecting and storing animal waste. Summary of the Invention [Problem to be solved by the invention]
[0010] In view of the aforementioned disadvantages inherent in the known types of pet leash systems currently existing in the prior art, the present technology provides a novel animal waste collection and storage system, overcoming the aforementioned disadvantages and shortcomings of the prior art. [0059] The same reference numbers refer to the same parts throughout the various figures. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
[0060] Referring now to the drawings, and in particular to FIGS. 1-24, an embodiment of an animal waste collection and storage system of the present technology is shown and generally designated by the reference numeral 10.
[0061] 1-3, there is shown and described a new and novel animal waste collection and storage system 10 of the present technology for collecting and storing animal waste. More specifically, the animal waste collection and storage system 10 includes a rope housing 12 featuring a bag-type receptacle or bag supply section 40 capable of supplying bags 2, a storage container 50 removably attachable to the rope housing 12, and an accessory item 80 removably attached to the rope housing 12.
[0062] The housing 12 has a body that encloses the rope retraction mechanism 14. Through the housing 12, a rope activation button 16 is operable to operate and control the rope retraction mechanism 14. The housing 12 can be formed of at least two halves that are joined together to form the housing. The rope retraction mechanism 14 can include, but is not limited to, a spring-loaded ratchet spool configured to retract the rope, lead, or length of cord 18 into the housing 12 and around the spool. When actuated by a user, the button 16 prevents the rope retraction mechanism 14 from moving or rotating, thus locking the rope retraction mechanism 14 in place. A locking pin is associated with and operable to be engageable with the button 16, and when activated by a user, locks the button 16 in an operating position, thereby maintaining the button 16 engaged with the rope retraction mechanism 14 until the user releases the locking pin from the button 16. A portion of the button 16 extends outwardly from the housing 12 for actuation by the user. The button 16 may include a spring (not shown) to urge the button in a position away from the rope retraction mechanism 14 .
[0063] In the illustrated example, the button 16 can operate an unlocking mechanism that can include an element that can move up and down. This movement occurs against the resistance of a spring. The element of the unlocking mechanism can be received in an opening, slot, or ratchet teeth associated with the rope retracting mechanism 14. While the element is received in one of the ratchet teeth, the rope retracting mechanism 14 is held against rotation.
[0064] Releasing pressure on the button 16, or allowing the button to move away from the rope retraction mechanism 14, will cause the element to move out of engagement with the ratchet teeth, thereby allowing the rope retraction mechanism 14 to retract, thereby drawing the rope into the housing 12.
[0065] It can be appreciated that more than one retracting mechanism 14, button 16, and rope 18 can be incorporated into the technology of the present invention, thereby allowing a user to walk more than one animal simultaneously. It can also be appreciated that shock absorbing means can be operable to engage the retracting mechanism 14 or rope 18 to cushion sudden pulling or tugging forces from an animal attached to the rope.
[0066] The rope 18 exits the housing 12 through a hole formed in or attached to the housing 12, located opposite the handle 22. It can be appreciated that the hole can have any shape or configuration that allows the rope 18 to pass therethrough. One end of the rope 18 is secured to the spool or rope retraction mechanism 14 by any suitable means, while the free end is external to the housing 12 and includes or is attachable to the clip 20 or pet collar.
[0067] The handle 22 defines an opening 24 that is configured and ergonomically shaped to receive a user's hand and / or the fingers of a user's hand. The handle 22 and opening 24 may have different shapes and configurations, such as, but not limited to, being angled relative to the longitudinal axis of the housing. Additionally, the handle 22 may include padding or communication elements that aid a user in gripping the handle 22 or operating the present invention. Further, the handle 22 may include finger receiving recesses and / or have an ergonomic configuration.
[0068] The housing 12 may further include a base 26 that traverses the housing 12. The base 26 may traverse the section of the housing 12 that includes the rope retraction mechanism 14 and the handle 22, thereby creating an exposed flat surface. Located on the opposite side of the base 26, which may be parallel to the longitudinal length of the housing 12, are sliding rails 28. Each of the sliding rails 28 includes a ledge or flange 30, best seen in FIG. 5. The flanges 30 of the rails 28 may face each other.
[0069] A latch or locking tab 32 , which may define a recess or hole, is located at the receiving end of the base 26 .
[0070] Opposite the rope retraction mechanism 14 and the handle 22 is a wall 34 extending from the base 26. The wall 34 includes an accessory receiving section 36 that features at least one aperture 38. As best shown in FIGS. 2 and 3, the receiving section 36 may be configured to slidably receive a portion of an attachable accessory item 80, such that a biasing member or button 82 of the accessory item 80 is receivable through the aperture 38 when the accessory item 80 is received within the receiving section 36. To remove the accessory item 80 from the receiving section 36, the button 82 is depressed, thereby allowing the accessory item 80 to freely advance out of the receiving section 36. The accessory item 80 may be, but is not limited to, a ball thrower, a walking stick, a tool, an umbrella, a scoop or shovel, a flash device, an additional pet rope assembly, or any other device having a member receivable within the receiving section 36.
[0071] 2, because button 16 is located on the opposite side of accessory item 80, a user will not accidentally activate button 16 and rope retraction mechanism 14 while using accessory item 80. It can be appreciated that multiple accessory items 80 may be interchangeably attached to and used with housing 12.
[0072] In this embodiment, the user may optionally use the housing 12 as a standard retractable animal leash without the attachment item 80 attached to the housing 12, thereby providing a more freely maneuverable housing 12 without the attachment item 80 creating any impediment to use. The user may then attach the attachment item 80 to the housing 12 when the user desires to use the attachment item. This provides the user with flexibility in using the technology of the present invention while still providing access to waste collection bags and a storage container for storing waste-filled bags.
[0073] At the supply end of the base 26 opposite the receiving end is a bag supply section 40 which may have a configuration corresponding to a roll or stack of bags 2. An opening 42 is defined through the bag supply section 40 to allow the bags 2 to be pulled therethrough. The bag supply section 40 may include a pair of parallel side sections extending from the base 26 or wall 34 and a top section defining the opening 42. The side sections may define an arched or curved free end with a top section extending transversely between and partially contiguous with the side sections. Located on one side of the bag supply section 40 is a post 44 extending outwardly therefrom.
[0074] A flap or door 46 is pivotally attached to the bag supply section 40 and provides access to a chamber defined within the bag supply section 40. The door 46 can pivot between an open position that allows access to the chamber and a closed position. In the closed position, a space can be defined between a distal edge of the door 46 and a distal edge of the bag supply section 40. A snap-on lock or door latch member 48 can be associated with the bag supply section 40 and the door 46 to hold the door 46 in the closed position until activated by a user to open the door 46.
[0075] Alternatively, the door may be omitted with the bag supply section 40 being formed by a continuous wall that defines the chamber. In this configuration, an access panel may be removably attached to the side of the bag supply section 40. For example, the access panel may be screwably or pivotally attached and the post 44 may be associated with the access panel.
[0076] The chamber is configured to receive a roll or stack of bags 2. A post or shaft may be associated with the chamber for rotatably supporting the roll of bags 2. The roll or stack of bags 2 may include a plurality of separable interconnected bags that can be pulled through opening 42 for use.
[0077] 1, 4, and 5, the storage container 50 may have a generally open box configuration with a pair of opposing side walls 52, a front wall 51, a rear wall 68, and a bottom wall 69. The container 50 may be configured to store items such as, but not limited to, used bags containing waste, balls, toys, personal items, etc. An example is shown when a user is walking their pet and the pet is defecating. The user may remove one of the bags 2, collect the pet waste in the bag, and place the waste-filled bag in the container 50 for later disposal.
[0078] Each of the sidewalls 52 may include a track or rider 54 adjacent an edge of its corresponding sidewall. As best shown in FIG. 5 , each of the riders 54 defines a channel 56 that communicates with the interior space of the container 50 and a guide ledge 58. The guide ledge 58 may transition to a distal edge of its corresponding sidewall 52, and the guide ledge 58 may be offset inwardly from its corresponding sidewall 52.
[0079] As best shown in FIGS. 1 and 4 , each channel 56 of the rider 54 can be closed or have a closed end adjacent or near the front wall 51, and each channel 56 of the rider 54 can be open or have an open end adjacent or near the rear wall 68. The channel 56 and its open end are configured to slidably receive the flange 30 of the corresponding rail 28 when the container 50 is slidably engaged with the housing 12, such that the rear wall 68 is positioned toward the wall 34. The guide ledge 58 can laterally receive the web portion of its corresponding rail 28 while the container 50 is engaged with the base 26. This arrangement can provide stability and guidance while moving the container 50 along the rail 28, and the flange 30 received within the channel 56 can hold the container 50 against the base 26. As best shown in FIG. 6, the internally offset arrangement of guide ledge 58 may be configured such that the exterior surface of sidewall 52 may be flush with the edge of base 26 .
[0080] In the illustrated example, a latch or locking member 60 may be associated with, extend from, or extend through the front wall 51. As best shown in FIG. 7, the locking member 60 may have a latch 62 that is engageable with a hole in the locking tab 32 when the container is assembled with the housing 12. It can be appreciated that other retention structures or assemblies may be utilized with the techniques of the present invention to retain the container 50 with the housing 12 until removed by a user. Such other assemblies may be, but are not limited to, magnets, locks, spring-biased members, rotating members, and the like.
[0081] There are a pair of container retaining sections 64 that extend or transition from the side walls 52 or the rear wall 68. The retaining sections 64 are spaced to slide across the sides of the bag supply section 40 such that a hole or recess 66 defined in each of the retaining sections 64 can receive one of the posts 44 when the container 50 is assembled with the housing 12.
[0082] As best shown in FIG. 4, rear wall 68 may include a recessed area 70 having a configuration that corresponds to or is capable of receiving receiving section 36 of wall 34 .
[0083] Handle member 72 can be associated with or integrally attached to front wall 51. Handle member 72 can define a slot 74 configured to allow a user's hand or finger to be received therein, thereby providing a grip hold for pulling, pushing, or manipulating container 50.
[0084] 8 and 9, an alternative embodiment housing 12' and container 50' are shown and described therein. Housing 12' omits the locking tabs from the front edge of base 26 and, in place, provides side locking tabs 100 located on one side of base 26 adjacent the end of rail 28 near the front edge of base 26. Each of side locking tabs 100 defines a recess or locking hole 102. Side locking tabs 100 are spaced apart to receive an end of sidewall 52 containing rider 54 therebetween.
[0085] The container 50' omits the locking members from the front wall 51 and, in place, provides side locking members 104 on each of the side walls 52. Each of the side locking members 104 is configured to be received within a corresponding locking hole 102 when the container 50' is assembled with the housing 12', thereby retaining the container 50' with the housing 12' until removed by a user. The side locking members 104 may include an angled surface that allows smooth progression against the interior side of their corresponding side locking members 104 until aligned with the locking holes 102.
[0086] It can be appreciated that the housing and storage container can be made from, but not limited to, plastic, metal, alloy, or composite. Additionally, the housing, base, and bag supply section can be integrally formed as a single unit.
[0087] In use, it can be seen that a user may now attach clip 20 or leash 18 to an animal's collar or harness and then take the animal for a walk. The user may operate leash activation button 16 on housing 12, 12' to control retraction mechanism 14 to advance, lock or retract leash 18. To operate the housing, the user may grasp handle 22 with one hand, thereby freeing the other hand for use.
[0088] When the animal defecates, the user may remove one of the bags 2 from the opening 42 and collect the animal waste inside the bag 2. The user may then tie off the closed bag 2. The storage container 50, 50' may be opened by sliding the storage container away from the wall 34, thereby providing access to the interior of the storage container. The user may place a closed waste-filled bag in the storage container and then close the storage container by sliding the storage container towards the wall 34 until the recess 66 is located above and received within its corresponding post 44. In this position, the side locking members 60, 104 engage the locking tabs 32, 100, further retaining the storage container in this closed position.
[0089] Additionally or alternatively, a user may store items for use in a storage container and access those items by sliding the storage container open.
[0090] To refill bags, a user may operate the door latch member 48 and then pivot the door 46 to the open position. A new roll or stack of bags can then be inserted into the chamber of the bag supply section 60. The door 46 can then be pivoted closed to retain the bags in the chamber.
[0091] Further, in the alternative, an accessory item 80 can be attached to and utilized with the housing by inserting a portion of the accessory item into the accessory receiving section 36 of the housing. In an illustrative example, the accessory item 80 can be a ball thrower, with an end of the ball thrower inserted into the receiving section 36 until the biasing member 82 is received in or engages with the aperture 38. A user can invert the housing such that the ball thrower is oriented in an operable position and grasp the handle 22 to operate the ball thrower. It can be appreciated that use of the ball thrower can be accomplished by a storage container assembled with the housing.
[0092] It can be appreciated that the accessory item 80 may mate with the accessory receiving section 36 by means other than those shown and described herein. Such mating arrangements may utilize, but are not limited to, threads, latches, biasing members, slots and wedges, magnets, or any other mechanical separation connection.
[0093] The ball thrower can include a shaft with an end that can be received and held within the accessory receiving section. The shaft can include a ball receiving end located at a free distal end of the shaft and defining a ball receiving opening configured to receive a ball within the ball receiving opening. The shaft can be made from a material that has sufficient shape memory and flexibility to allow the shaft to bend, push the ball out of the ball receiving element, and then return to its previous shape and position.
[0094] 10-17, a new and novel alternative animal waste collection and storage system 110 of the present technology for collecting and storing animal waste is shown and described. More specifically, the animal waste collection and storage system 110 may include a rope housing 12, a storage container 112, and a bag container 120. The storage container 112 and / or the bag container 120 may be integrally formed with the housing 12 or may be removably attachable to the housing 12.
[0095] The housing 12 may have a body that encloses the rope retraction mechanism. A rope activation button 16 may be operable through the housing 12 to operate and control the rope retraction mechanism. The housing 12 may be formed of at least two halves or sections that are joined together to form the housing. The rope retraction mechanism 14 may include, but is not limited to, a spring-loaded ratchet spool configured to retract the rope, lead, or length of cord 18 into the housing 12 and around the spool. When actuated by a user, the button 16 prevents the rope retraction mechanism from operating or rotating, thus locking the rope retraction mechanism 14 in place. A locking pin is associated with and operable to be engageable with the button 16, and when activated by a user, locks the button 16 in an operating position, thereby maintaining the button 16 engaged with the rope retraction mechanism until the user releases the locking pin from the button 16. A portion of the button 16 extends outwardly from the housing 12 for actuation by the user. The button 16 may include a spring (not shown) to urge the button in a position away from the rope retraction mechanism.
[0096] In the illustrated example, the button 16 can operate an unlocking mechanism that can include an element that can move up and down. This movement occurs against the resistance of a spring. The element of the unlocking mechanism can be received in an opening, slot, or ratchet teeth associated with the rope retracting mechanism. While the element is received in one of the ratchet teeth, the rope retracting mechanism 14 is held against rotation.
[0097] Releasing pressure on the button 16, or allowing the button to move away from the rope retraction mechanism, will cause the element to move out of engagement with the ratchet teeth, thereby allowing the rope retraction mechanism to retract, thereby drawing the rope into the housing 12.
[0098] It can be appreciated that more than one retraction mechanism 14, button 16, and rope 18 can be incorporated into the technology of the present invention, thereby allowing a user to walk more than one animal simultaneously. It can also be appreciated that shock absorbing means can be operative to engage the retraction mechanism or rope 18 to cushion sudden pulling or tugging forces from an animal attached to the rope.
[0099] The rope 18 can exit the housing 12 through a hole formed in or attached to the housing 12, located opposite the handle 22. It can be appreciated that the hole can have any shape or configuration that allows the rope 18 to pass therethrough. One end of the rope 18 is secured to a spool or rope retraction mechanism by any suitable means, while the free end is external to the housing 12 and includes or is attachable to a clip or pet collar.
[0100] The handle 22 can define an opening 24 that is configured and ergonomically shaped to receive a user's hand and / or the fingers of a user's hand. The handle 22 and opening 24 can have different shapes and configurations, such as, but not limited to, being angled relative to the longitudinal axis of the housing. Additionally, the handle 22 can include padding or communication elements that aid a user in gripping the handle 22 or operating the present invention. Further, the handle 22 can include finger receiving recesses and / or have an ergonomic configuration.
[0101] The clip member 130 may extend from the housing 12 and / or the storage container 112, allowing a user to attach an end of the line 18 to the clip member 130 or a clip associated with the line 18. The clip member 130 may be curved in shape to extend from the housing 12 to the storage container, thereby defining an open space between the clip member 130 and the housing 12 or the storage container 112. It can be appreciated that the clip member 130 may be used to hang the housing 12 or to hang any other object from the housing 12. Additionally, it can be appreciated that the clip member 130 may be located anywhere else in the alternative animal waste collection and storage system 110.
[0102] 10-16 (more specifically, FIG. 16 ), the storage container 112 may have a generally open cylindrical configuration defining an interior cavity 114 with a cylindrical side wall, a closed end wall, and an open end 113. The interior cavity 144 of the container 112 may be configured to store items such as, but not limited to, used bags containing waste material, balls, toys, personal items, etc. The longitudinal axis of the storage container 112 may be oriented perpendicular to, transverse to, or parallel to the longitudinal axis of the handle 22.
[0103] A container cap 116 is attached to the open end 113 and closes the interior cavity 114 such that objects can be stored within the storage container 112 .
[0104] In the illustration, a user is shown walking their pet and the pet is defecating. It can be appreciated that the storage container 112 and / or container cap 116 can have any geometric shape and / or the closed end of the storage container 112 can be a second open end configured to receive a second cap or other screwable object.
[0105] The container cap 116 may include external threads 117 engagable with internal threads of the open end 113, thereby allowing the container cap 116 to close the open end 113 and retain the object within the internal cavity 114. A seal (not shown) may be associated with the open end 113 and / or the container cap 116 to provide a watertight and / or airtight seal to the storage container 112.
[0106] The container cap 116 may further include a recess 118 defined in a side of the container cap 116 that is configured to receive the bag container cap 126. The recess 118 may include internal threads that are engagable with external threads 128 associated with a post extending from the bag container cap 126. This allows the bag container cap 126 to be retained on the container cap 116 when not in use.
[0107] 10-15 and 17 (more specifically, FIG. 17), the bag container 120 may have a generally open cylindrical configuration defining an interior cavity 122 with a cylindrical sidewall, a closed end wall, and an open end 124. The interior cavity 122 of the bag container 120 may be configured to store items such as, but not limited to, a bag or a roll of bags 2. The bag container 120 may define an opening or slot therethrough configured to allow removal of the bag 2 from the interior cavity 122. The longitudinal axis of the bag container 120 may be oriented in substantially the same direction, at an angle, parallel, or perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the handle 22 or the longitudinal axis of the storage container 112.
[0108] The shaft 123 can extend from the closed end wall into the interior cavity 122. The shaft 123 can be configured to be inserted into the roll of bags 2 to allow the roll of bags 2 to rotate and thus dispense one or more bags from the interior cavity 122.
[0109] A bag container cap 126 is attached to the open end 124 of the bag container 120 to close the interior cavity 122 such that a bag 2 can be stored within the bag container 120 .
[0110] It can be appreciated that the bag container 120 and / or the bag container cap 126 can have any geometric shape and / or multiple bag containers 120 can be utilized with the techniques of the present invention.
[0111] The bag container cap 126 may include external threads 128 configured to be engagable with the internal threads of the open end 124 of the bag container 120, thereby allowing the bag container cap 126 to close the open end 124 of the bag container 120 and retain the bag 2 within the internal cavity 122. The external threads 128 of the bag container cap 126 may also be configured to be engagable with the internal threads of the recess 118 of the container cap 116, thereby allowing the bag container cap 126 to be secured when not in use.
[0112] A closure (not shown) may be associated with the open end 124 and / or the bag container cap 126 to provide the bag container 120 with a watertight and / or airtight seal.
[0113] A user may remove one of the bags 2 from the bag container 120 by either pulling the bag 2 out of the bag container 120 and removing the bag container cap 126, or by pulling the bag 2 through an opening or slot defined through the bag container 120. The user may then collect the pet waste in the bag, then remove the container cap 116, and place the waste-filled bag into the interior cavity 114 of the storage container 112 for later disposal.
[0114] Alternatively, with the bag container cap 126 removed, the end 134 of the accessory item 132 may be engageable with the open end 124, sidewall, or interior cavity 122 of the bag container 120. This allows additional items to be utilized with the techniques of the present invention. The accessory item may be, but is not limited to, a ball thrower, a walking stick, a tool, an umbrella, a scoop or shovel, a flash device, an additional pet tether assembly, or any other device having a member receivable within the receiving section 36.
[0115] 18, in the illustrated embodiment, the peripheral item may be a ball thrower 132, with an end of the ball thrower being inserted into and / or attached to the open end 124, sidewall, or interior cavity 122 of the bag container 120. A user may invert the housing 12 so that the ball thrower 132 is oriented in an operable upright position and grasp the handle 22 to operate the ball thrower. Use of the ball thrower 132 may be accomplished by removing the bag container cap 126, and it may be appreciated that there is an option to store the ball container cap 126 within the recess 118.
[0116] It can be appreciated that the accessory items 132 may be mated with the open end 124 of the bag container 120 by means other than those shown and described herein. Such mating arrangements may utilize, but are not limited to, threads, latches, biasing members, slots and wedges, magnets, or any other mechanical separation connection. Alternatively, the accessory items 132 may be mated or attached to the open end 113 of the storage container 112.
[0117] The ball thrower 132 may include a shaft with an end 134 that is received and retained within the open end 124 or interior cavity 122 of the bag container 120. The shaft may include a ball receiving end located at a free distal end of the shaft and defines a ball receiving opening configured to receive a ball therein. The shaft may be made from a material that has sufficient shape memory and flexibility to allow the shaft to bend, push the ball out of the ball receiving element, and then return to its previous shape and position.

A portion of the cup-shaped container cap 140 may have a width or diameter configured to be slidably received within the bore 114'. The container cap 140 may include an interior cavity 142, an open end 144, and a flanged closed end 146. The flanged closed end 146 may have a width or diameter greater than the width or diameter of the open end 114, and may be greater than the width or diameter of the bore 114', thereby creating a stop edge that may contact a side of the storage container 112' when the open end 144 is inserted into the bore 114'.
[0120] As described above, the flange closed end 146 can define a recess 148 configured to threadably engage with the threaded post 128 of the bag container cap 126, thereby allowing the bag container cap 126 to be stored when not in use.
[0121] The end cap 150 may include a portion having a width or diameter configured to be slidably received within the open end 144, and further may be received within the interior cavity 142 of the cup-shaped container cap 140. The end cap 150 may include an interior cavity 152, an open end 154, and a flanged closed end 156. The flanged closed end 156 may have a width or diameter greater than the width or diameter of the open end 154, and may be greater than the width or diameter of the aperture 114', thereby creating a stop edge that may contact a side of the storage container 112' when the open end 154 is inserted into the aperture 114' and into the open end 144 or interior cavity 142 of the cup-shaped container cap 140.
[0122] As described above, the flange closed end 156 can define a recess 158 configured to threadably engage with the threaded post 128 of the bag container cap 126, thereby allowing the bag container cap 126 to be stored when not in use.
[0123] 20, a seal or O-ring 149 may be associated with a stop edge of the flanged closed end 146 of the cup-shaped container cap 140 that contacts the side of the storage container 112'. Additionally, a seal or O-ring 160 may be associated with a stop edge of the flanged closed end 156 that contacts the side of the storage container 112'.
[0124] In use, a user can insert the open end 144 of the storage-container cap 140 into the first side of the storage container 112' defining the aperture 114' until the O-ring 149 or stop edge defined by the flange closed end 146 contacts the first side of the storage container 112'. The user can then insert the open end 154 of the end cap 150 into the second side of the storage container 112' defining the aperture 114' and into the open end 144 of the storage-container cap 140 until the O-ring 160 or stop edge defined by the flange closed end 156 contacts the second side of the storage container 112' defining the aperture 114'.
[0125] The open end 144 of the storage container cap 140 may include internal threads configured to engage with external threads included in the open end 154 of the rear end cap 150, thereby allowing them to be tightened together when one or both are rotated.
[0126] A user may remove the bag from the bag container, collect any animal waste or feces, then seal or tie off the bag, then unscrew the container cap 140 or the end cap 150 from one another, and then place the bag containing the feces into the interior cavity 142 of the container cap 140. The open end 144 may then be inserted into the aperture 114' from a first side of the storage container 112', and the open end 154 of the end cap 150 may be inserted into the aperture 114' from a second side of the storage container 112' and into the open end 144 of the container cap 140. The user may then screw the container cap 140 and the end cap 150 together, thereby clamping the flange closed ends 146, 156 together. This tightening action may result in the O-rings 149, 160 sealing against their corresponding sides of the storage container 112', thereby providing an airtight and / or watertight seal.
[0127] The closure storage container 112', container cap 140, and end cap 150 may contain any leakage of feces from the bags stored therein and / or may contain the odor of the feces.
[0128] 21, an alternative embodiment storage container 112'' and container cap 170 may be utilized with the techniques of the present invention.
