Abstract
Description
[Technical field]
[0001] The present invention relates to a cell assembly for observing an electrode structure. [Background technology]
[0002] The cells, which are components of a secondary battery module, expand and contract during charging and discharging. For this reason, electrodes are often used in a state where they are constrained from the thickness direction. Methods have been proposed to observe electrode structures in a form that mimics this usage state. For example, there is a method in which the electrode cross section is observed using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) or confocal optical system while the electrode is constrained from the thickness direction by a constraining member. With these methods, in the case of an electrode with a large amount of expansion and contraction, it is difficult to completely suppress the expansion of the electrode in the protruding direction from the cross section processed for observation. For this reason, there is a risk that the observation results will differ from the behavior of the structure during actual use. On the other hand, if observation is performed using X-ray CT, which does not require processing of the cross section for observation, the above concerns can be eliminated, but the image quality of the X-ray CT image will be reduced due to X-ray absorption by the constraining member that constrains the electrode from the thickness direction. The reduced image quality is an obstacle to detailed observation.
[0003] It has been proposed to use a disk-shaped restraining member with a hole in the center through which X-rays pass as a cell assembly for observing electrode structure in order to observe a secondary battery cell by X-ray CT while the cell is restrained in the thickness direction by a restraining member (see, for example, Patent Document 1). Also, in a measurement system in which a member to be measured in a flow cell is irradiated with X-rays to perform analysis, it has been proposed to irradiate X-rays from a thin-walled portion set in the flow cell (see, for example, Patent Document 2). [0004] [Patent Document 1] JP 2012-159311 A [Patent Document 2] JP 2019-045295 A Summary of the Invention [Problem to be solved by the invention]
[0005] In the electrode structure observation cell assembly of Patent Document 1, a hole for passing X-rays provided in the center of a disk-shaped member, which is a restraining member, is provided with a tapered surface on the inner periphery that expands in diameter toward the outside. It is said that X-rays can be incident on the cell, which is the observation target, from a wide range of angles. However, the area through which X-rays can effectively pass is limited to the hole in the center of the restraining member, and the cell cannot be restrained at the hole. On the other hand, the measurement system of Patent Document 2 does not take into consideration the case where the measured member has a property of expanding and contracting depending on conditions.
[0006] The present invention has been made in consideration of the above-mentioned circumstances, and aims to provide a cell assembly for electrode structure observation that can effectively transmit X-rays over a relatively wide area of the cell to be observed, and can appropriately deal with the expansion and contraction of the cell itself. [Means for solving the problem]
[0007] (1) A cell assembly for structural observation for observing the internal structure of a cell using X-ray CT, comprising: A cell assembly for structural observation comprising a pair of restraint members which clamp and restrain the cell to be observed from both sides, one of the pair of restraint members having an X-ray irradiated portion formed at a portion corresponding to the cell which is relatively thinner than the other restraint member.
[0008] (2) A cell assembly for structural observation according to (1), in which a displacement detection area is set in the X-ray irradiated portion.
[0009] (3) A cell assembly for structural observation according to (1) or (2), in which the cell assembly for structural observation is supported by a rotation support member that rotatably supports the cell assembly for structural observation.
[0010] (4) A structural observation cell assembly (3) in which two fastening members are provided to fasten a pair of the main restraint members, and the two fastening members are arranged on either side of the electrode opposing portion, which is the observation target portion of the cell, in the direction of the rotation axis in which the structural observation cell assembly is rotated by the rotating support member.
[0011] (5) A structural observation cell assembly as defined in (3) or (4), in which the positive and negative terminals extending from the cell are arranged in the direction of the axis of rotation of the structural observation cell assembly by the rotating support member, sandwiching the electrode opposing portion, which is the observation target portion of the cell.
[0012] (6) A structural observation cell assembly as described in (5), in which a positive busbar accommodating portion and a negative busbar accommodating portion are provided to accommodate a positive busbar connected to the positive terminal and a negative busbar connected to the negative terminal, respectively, and the positive busbar accommodating portion and the negative busbar accommodating portion are arranged on either side of the electrode opposing portion, which is the observation target portion of the cell, in the direction of the rotation axis of rotation of the structural observation cell assembly by the rotating support member. Effect of the Invention
[0013] In the structural observation cell assembly (1), X-rays can be irradiated to a relatively wide area of the cell from the X-ray irradiated portion, which is thinner than the other restraining member, attached to one of the restraining members, so that accurate structural observation can be performed. Also, the strain of the restraining member caused by the expansion of the cell is conspicuously distributed on the side of the one restraining member having the relatively thin portion. Therefore, the degree of expansion of the cell can be detected exclusively on the side of one of the restraining members.
[0014] (2) In the structural observation cell assembly, a value corresponding to the expansion of the cell can be detected in the displacement detection area of one of the restraint members where the distortion of the restraint member due to the expansion of the cell is significantly and ubiquitous. This makes it possible to easily obtain highly accurate information on the state of the cell.
[0015] (3) In the structural observation cell assembly, the cell to be observed can be observed from various angles.
[0016] In the structural observation cell assembly (4), the fastening members are separated from the electrode opposing portions, which are the portions of the cell to be observed, and do not affect observation by X-ray CT.
[0017] (5) In the structural observation cell assembly, the positive and negative terminals are separated from the electrode opposing portions, which are the areas of the cell to be observed, so that operations on the positive and negative terminals do not affect observation by X-ray CT.
[0018] (6) In the structural observation cell assembly, the positive busbar storage section and the negative busbar storage section are separated from the electrode opposing section, which is the part of the cell to be observed, so that operations on the positive busbar and negative busbar do not affect observation by X-ray CT. [Brief description of the drawings]
[0019] [Figure 1] FIG. 2 is an exploded perspective view showing a cell assembly for structural observation according to the present disclosure. [Diagram 2] FIG. 2 is a perspective view of the structural observation cell assembly of FIG. 1. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
[0020] Fig. 1 is an exploded perspective view showing a cell assembly for structural observation 1 according to the present disclosure. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the cell assembly for structural observation 1. In detail, Fig. 1 shows a portion of the cell assembly for structural observation 1 excluding a rotation support member 2, which will be described later. Note that the up-down direction in the following description refers to the direction as seen in the illustration, e.g., the vertical direction, but is not intended to be limited thereto.
[0021] The cell assembly for structural observation 1 is an assembly for observing the internal structure of a cell, which is a component of a secondary battery module, by X-ray CT (not shown). The cell assembly for structural observation 1 includes a pair of rigid restraining members 4 that sandwich and restrain a flat cell 3 to be observed from both sides, and a first insulating member 5 and a second insulating member 6 that are respectively interposed between the pair of restraining members 4 and the cell 3.
[0022] The pair of restraining members 4 sandwich and restrain the cell 3 with a first restraining member 7 located on one side of the cell 3 and a second restraining member 8 located on the other side of the cell 3. When sandwiching, a first insulating member 5 having a plate-like main surface with a roughly rectangular shape is interposed between the first restraining member 7 and one side of the cell 3, and a second insulating member 6 having a plate-like main surface with a roughly rectangular shape is interposed between the second restraining member 8 and the other side of the cell 3. The first insulating member 5 has position restricting portions 5a, 5a that stand up in the thickness direction from both side edges. These position restricting portions 5a, 5a restrict the relative positions of the first insulating member 5 and the first restraining member 7. The second insulating member 6 is also provided with a position restricting means similar to that of the first insulating member 5.
[0023] The first restraint member 7 has thick portions 71, 71 with a relatively large thickness at both upper and lower end sides, and a thin portion 72 with a relatively small thickness between the thick portions 71, 71. X-rays from an X-ray CT (not shown) are irradiated from the outside toward the thin portion 72, and pass through the thin portion 72 to reach the cell 3. In other words, the thin portion 72 is the portion irradiated with X-rays. On the other hand, the second restraint member 8 has a surface 81 facing the cell 3 that is a flat surface, and the entire surface 81 is in surface contact with the second insulating member 6.
[0024] An upper bolt insertion hole 73 is formed so as to penetrate in the thickness direction near the upper end of the upper thick-walled portion 71 of the first restraint member 7, and a lower bolt insertion hole 74 is formed so as to penetrate in the thickness direction near the lower end of the lower thick-walled portion 71. Meanwhile, an upper female threaded hole 83 corresponding to the upper bolt insertion hole 73 on the first restraint member 7 side is formed in a protruding portion 82 protruding from an opposing surface 81 toward the first restraint member 7 side near the upper end of the second restraint member 8. Furthermore, a lower female threaded hole 84 corresponding to the lower bolt insertion hole 74 on the first restraint member 7 side is formed near the lower end of the second restraint member 8.
[0025] The first restraint member 7 and the second restraint member 8 are fastened with an appropriate fastening force by the upper bolt 9 and the lower bolt 10, sandwiching the cell 3 via the first insulating member 5 and the second insulating member 6. This restrains the cell 3 from both sides. During this fastening, the bolt 9 inserted from the upper bolt insertion hole 73 is screwed into the upper female threaded hole 83, and the bolt 10 inserted from the lower bolt insertion hole 74 is screwed into the lower female threaded hole 84.
[0026] In order to insert the bolts 9 and 10 from the first restraining member 7 to the second restraining member 8 without any hindrance, the following configuration is adopted. That is, a recess 11 for avoiding interference with the bolt 9 is provided near the upper end of the first insulating member 5, and a recess 12 for avoiding interference with the bolt 10 is provided near the lower end of the first insulating member 5. In addition, a recess 13 for avoiding interference with the bolt 9 is formed near the upper end of the second insulating member 6, and a recess 14 for avoiding interference with the bolt 10 is formed near the lower end of the second insulating member 6. The recesses 11 and 13 allow the bolt 9 to be inserted from the upper bolt insertion hole 73 to the upper female threaded hole 83 without interfering with the first insulating member 5 and the second insulating member 6. Similarly, the recesses 12 and 14 allow the bolt 10 to be inserted from the lower bolt insertion hole 74 to the lower female threaded hole 84 without interfering with the first insulating member 5 and the second insulating member 6.
[0027] A protruding member 85 is provided so as to protrude downward from the center of the short side near the lower end of the second restraining member 8. The protruding member 85 is a generally columnar member whose dimension in the insertion direction of the lower bolt 10 is larger than the thickness dimension of the second restraining member 8 and whose width dimension in the direction perpendicular to the insertion direction is smaller than the width of the lower end of the second restraining member 8. The above-mentioned lower female threaded hole 84 is provided toward the upper side of the protruding member 85. The assembly mounting female threaded holes 86 and 87 are provided in a line downward from the lower female threaded hole 84 on the surface of the protruding member 85 on which the lower female threaded hole 84 opens. That is, the lower female threaded hole 84 and the assembly mounting female threaded holes 86 and 87 are provided in a line from top to bottom in the above-mentioned order on the same surface of the protruding member 85.
[0028] An assembly AS including a pair of restraining members 4 that sandwich and restrain the cell 3 to be observed from both sides, and a first insulating member 5 and a second insulating member 6 that are interposed when the cell 3 is sandwiched between the restraining members 4, is attached to the upper end side of a cylindrical rotating support member 2 that extends in the vertical direction. For this attachment, a short rectangular columnar mounting member 15 that is provided at the upper end of the rotating support member 2 and protrudes upward is used.
[0029] That is, the tip ends of two assembly mounting bolts 16, 17 inserted from mounting member 15 are screwed into assembly mounting female threaded holes 86, 87 provided in protruding member 85 of second restraint member 8, and assembly AS is mounted to the rotating support member 2. The rotating support member 2 rotates on its axis by a rotation drive mechanism (not shown), thereby rotating the assembly AS. One embodiment of a structural observation cell assembly 1 of the present disclosure is constituted by including the assembly AS and the rotating support member 2.
[0030] Here, the cell 3 is observed at an electrode facing portion 3b, which is a portion inside the center of the cell body 3a where the separator sheet faces the positive electrode active material layer and the negative electrode active material layer. A positive electrode terminal 20 is led out from the upper edge of the cell body 3a, and a negative electrode terminal 21 is led out from the lower edge of the cell body 3a. A positive electrode bus bar 22 is led out from the positive electrode terminal 20, and a negative electrode bus bar 23 is led out from the negative electrode terminal 21. As a result, the positive electrode terminal 20 and the negative electrode terminal 21 are each located apart from the X-ray transmission portion of the electrode facing portion 3b, which is the observation portion, in the direction of the rotation axis in the rotation of the assembly AS. Therefore, the positive electrode terminal 20 and the negative electrode terminal 21 do not affect the observation by X-ray CT. The bolts 9 and 10, and the upper and lower female threaded holes 83 and 84 are located away from the X-ray transmitting portion of the electrode facing portion 3b, which is the observation target portion, in the direction of the rotation axis of the rotation of the assembly AS. That is, the portions fastened by the bolts 9 and 10, and the upper and lower female threaded holes 83 and 84 form two fastening members, each of which is a set of a bolt and a female screw, that fasten the first and second restraint members 7 and 8, which are the main restraint members 4, and these two fastening members are arranged to sandwich the electrode facing portion 3b, which is the observation target portion of the cell 3, in the direction of the rotation axis of the rotation of the assembly AS by the rotation support member 2. For this reason, the bolts 9 and 10, and the upper and lower female threaded holes 83 and 84 do not affect the observation by X-ray CT.
[0031] 1, the positive bus bar 22 extends a short distance from the connection portion with the positive terminal 20 in parallel with the upper edge of the cell body 3a, bends vertically upward before reaching the side edge of the cell body 3a, extends a predetermined distance upward to its own upper end, and the negative bus bar 23 extends a short distance from the connection portion with the negative terminal 21 in parallel with the lower edge of the cell body 3a, bends vertically downward before reaching the side edge of the cell body 3a, and extends a predetermined distance downward to its own lower end.
[0032] A positive busbar accommodating half 5u formed so as to protrude upward from the upper edge of the first insulating member 5 and a positive busbar accommodating half 6u formed so as to protrude upward from the upper edge of the second insulating member 6 are fitted together so that their accommodating recesses face each other to form a positive busbar accommodating portion 24. A portion near the upper end of the positive busbar 22 is accommodated in the positive busbar accommodating portion 24. As shown in Fig. 2, the positive busbar accommodating portion 24 has a window 24a that is open towards one side of the assembly AS and allows electrical input / output operations from the outside to the positive busbar 22 inside.
[0033] Negative busbar accommodating portion half 5d formed so as to protrude downward from the lower edge of first insulating member 5 and negative busbar accommodating portion half 6d formed so as to protrude downward from the lower edge of second insulating member 6 are fitted together so that their accommodating recesses face each other to form negative busbar accommodating portion 25. A portion near the lower end of negative busbar 23 is accommodated in negative busbar accommodating portion 25. As shown in Fig. 2, negative busbar accommodating portion 25 has a window portion 25a that is open towards one side of assembly AS and allows electrical input / output operations from the outside to negative busbar 23 inside.
[0034] The above-mentioned window portion 24a and window portion 25a are both located away from the X-ray transmitting portion of the electrode opposing portion 3b, which is the observation portion. From another perspective, the positive electrode terminal 20 and the negative electrode terminal 21 derived from the cell 3 are arranged in the direction of the rotation axis of the rotation of the assembly AS by the rotation support member 2, sandwiching the electrode opposing portion 3b, which is the observation portion of the cell 3. In addition, a positive electrode busbar accommodating portion 24 and a negative electrode busbar accommodating portion 25 are provided to accommodate the positive electrode busbar 22 connected to the positive electrode terminal 20 and the negative electrode busbar 23 connected to the negative electrode terminal 21, respectively, and the positive electrode busbar accommodating portion 24 and the negative electrode busbar accommodating portion 25 are arranged in the direction of the rotation axis of the rotation of the assembly AS by the rotation support member 2, sandwiching the electrode opposing portion 3b, which is the observation portion of the cell 3, As a result, when electrical input / output operations are performed through the positive busbar accommodating portion 24 and the window portions 24a and 25a of the positive busbar accommodating portion 24 to change the SOC of the cell 3 and perform observation, these operations do not affect observation by X-ray CT.
[0035] As described above, the first insulating member 5 is interposed between the cell 3 and the first restraining member 7, which is one of the pair of restraining members 4 that sandwich and restrain the cell 3 from both sides, but more specifically, an opening 5b corresponding to the outer shape of the electrode facing portion 3b of the cell 3 is provided in the center of the first insulating member 5, and the first restraining member 7 and the electrode facing portion 3b abut via a square plate-shaped spacer 26 arranged in the opening 5b. In addition, the second insulating member 6 is interposed between the cell 3 and the second restraining member 8, which is the other of the pair of restraining members 4, but more specifically, a convex portion 6a formed on the second insulating member 6 so as to face the other surface of the electrode facing portion 3b abuts against the electrode facing portion 3b.
[0036] Since the structural observation cell assembly 1 disclosed herein has the above-mentioned configuration, the constraint force from the pair of constraint members 4, the first constraint member 7 and the second constraint member 8, to the cell 3 to be observed is exerted as follows: When the bolts 9 and 10 are fastened, the tension acting on both bolts 9, 10 generates a force on the opposing first constraint member 7 and second constraint member 8 in a direction narrowing the distance between them.
[0037] As a result, pressure applied by the first restraint member 7 toward one surface of the cell 3 is propagated via the spacer 26 disposed in the opening 5b of the first insulating member 5, pressing and restraining one surface of the electrode facing portion 3b of the cell 3 in its normal direction. At the same time, pressure applied by the surface 81 of the second restraint member 8 facing the cell 3 toward the other surface of the cell 3 is propagated via the convex portion 6a of the second insulating member 6, pressing and restraining the other surface of the electrode facing portion 3b of the cell 3 in its normal direction.
[0038] In the structural observation cell assembly 1 of the present disclosure, a thin-walled portion 72 is formed between the thick-walled portions 71, 71 at both upper and lower ends of the first restraint member 7. The thin-walled portion 72 is an X-ray irradiated portion that is irradiated with X-rays from an X-ray CT (not shown). Because the X-ray irradiated portion is thin, there is little loss of X-rays when they pass through. Therefore, when observing the structure of the cell 3 to be observed attached to the assembly AS, X-rays are effectively irradiated to and pass through the cell 3 for various rotation angles caused by the rotation of the rotating support member 2, and accurate data can be collected.
[0039] Incidentally, of the pair of restraining members 4, the thin-walled portion 72 is provided only on the side of one of the restraining members, the first restraining member 7, while the other restraining member, the second restraining member 8, is an entirely thick member. For this reason, the distortion (amount of displacement) of the pair of restraining members 4 caused by the stress generated by the expansion of the cells 3 appears omnipresent on the side of the first restraining member 7.
[0040] In the cell assembly for structural observation 1 disclosed herein, a displacement detection area 75 is set in the center of the first restraint member 7. If a strain gauge is attached to the displacement detection area 75, data on the amount of expansion of the cell 3 can be obtained as a detection value by this strain gauge. The volume change of the active material in the cell 3 can be calculated based on the data on the amount of expansion of the cell 3.
[0041] When a strain gauge attached to the displacement detection area 75 of the first restraint member 7 is used, data corresponding to the amount of expansion of the cell 3 can be obtained from a single location, reducing the degree to which the strain (displacement) detection means interferes with the rotation of the assembly AS. Note that, instead of attaching a strain gauge, similar data corresponding to the amount of expansion of the cell 3 can also be obtained by measuring the displacement in the normal direction of the displacement detection area 75 with a laser displacement meter.
[0042] The structural observation cell assembly 1 of the present disclosure provides the following advantages.
[0043] In the structural observation cell assembly 1 of (1), X-rays can be irradiated to the cell 3 over a relatively wide range of incident angles from an X-ray irradiated portion 72 that is set to a relatively thinner portion 72 provided on a first constraining member 7, which is one of the pair of constraining members 4, than a second constraining member 8, which is the other constraining member, and therefore accurate structural observation can be performed based on a large amount of observation data. In addition, distortion of the pair of constraining members 4 caused by the expansion of the cell 3 is conspicuously omnipresent on the side of the first constraining member 7, which has a relatively thin portion. For this reason, the degree of expansion of the cell 3 can be detected exclusively on the side of the first constraining member 7, which is one of the constraining members.
[0044] (2) In the cell assembly 1 for structural observation, a value corresponding to the expansion of the cell 3 can be detected in the displacement detection region 75 in the thin-walled portion (X-ray irradiated portion) 72 on the first restraint member 7 side, where distortion of the restraint member due to the expansion of the cell 3 is significantly and ubiquitous, so that highly accurate information on the state of the cell 3 can be easily obtained.
[0045] (3) In the structural observation cell assembly, the cell to be observed can be observed from various angles.
[0046] In the structural observation cell assembly 1 (4), the fastening members (a set of bolt 9 and upper female threaded hole 83, and a set of bolt 10 and lower female threaded hole 84) are separated from the electrode opposing portion 3b, which is the observation target portion of the cell 3, and do not affect observation by X-ray CT.
[0047] In the structural observation cell assembly (5), the positive electrode terminal 20 and the negative electrode terminal 21 are separated from the electrode opposing portion 3b, which is the observation target portion of the cell 3, so that operations on the positive electrode terminal 20 and the negative electrode terminal 21 do not affect the observation by X-ray CT.
[0048] In the structural observation cell assembly (6), the positive busbar accommodating portion 24 and the negative busbar accommodating portion 24 are separated from the electrode opposing portion 3b, which is the observation target portion of the cell 3, so that operations on the positive busbar 22 and the negative busbar 23 do not affect observation by X-ray CT.
