[0029] 1. Description of analytical method 1.1. Powder X-ray diffraction Powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) data are collected at 25°C using an X-ray diffractometer (Rigaku Miniflex 600) using a Cu X-ray tube (λ=1.5418 Å), a secondary graphite (002) monochromator, and an angular range of 10°≦2θ≦80°. The crystal structure is refined using the powder profile refinement program Generalized Structure and Analysis Software (GSAS, BG Toby, J. Appl. Cryst. 2001, 34(2), 210-213).
[0030] 1.2. Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) Sodium ion conductivity is measured by AC impedance method in a polyetheretherketone (PEEK) mold (diameter = 10 mm) using an ion-blocking symmetric cell of Ti / solid electrolyte / Ti, with a Ti rod as current collector. Cold pressed pellets were prepared at 3 tons pressure. Frequencies are applied from 1 MHz to 100 MHz using EC-Lab software on a Biologic SP-200 single channel potentiostat. Measurements are performed at various temperatures (30, 45, 60, 75, and 90 °C). Sodium ion conductivity (σ) is calculated by the following formula:
[0031]
number
[0032] where L is the thickness of the pellet (cm) and A is the area of the pellet (cm 2 ) and R is the resistance obtained by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (S -1 ).
[0033] 2. Examples and Comparative Examples Example 1 Na 3.90 Sn 0.90 As 0.10 S4 powder is prepared by mixing, pelletizing, and subsequent heat treatment according to the following method. Step 1) Mixing: Mix Na2S, SnS2, As2S3, and S powders using a mortar and pestle according to the molar ratio of Na:Sn:As:S = 3.90:0.90:0.10:4.00. All reactants and products are handled in a dry argon-filled glove box since the starting and product materials are hygroscopic and air sensitive. Step 2) Pelletization: The above mixed powder is pelletized in a die with a diameter of 1 cm by applying a load of 1.0 ton. The pelletized sample is then placed in a carbon-coated fused silica ampoule and vacuum sealed. Step 3) Heat treatment: The reactants were heated to 400 °C at a rate of 2 °C / min in a box furnace, held at this temperature for 12 h, and naturally cooled to room temperature. After the reaction was complete, the ampoules were opened in an argon-filled glove box. The prepared powder was labeled EX1.
[0034] Example 2, Example 3 and Example 4 Samples of Examples 2, 3, and 4 are prepared following the same procedure as EX1, except that the amounts of Na2S, SnS2, As2S3, and S powders used during step 1 are different according to the molar ratios shown in Table 1. The prepared powders are labeled EX2, EX3, and EX4, respectively.
[0035] Comparative Example 1 Na4SnS4 powder is prepared following the same procedure as EX1, except that As2S3 is not used in step 1. The prepared powder is labeled as CEX1.
[0036] [Table 1]
[0037] * Adv.Energy Mater.8,1702716(2018)
[0038] [Table 2]
[0039] Table 1 shows the molar ratios of Na, Sn, and As elements and the sodium ion conductivity (σ, mS / cm) at 30 °C of the solid electrolytes produced in Examples 1, 2, 3, 4, and Comparative Example 1. According to Table 1, the general formula Na x Sn y As z S4 [where 3.50 ≤ x ≤ 4.00, 0.50 ≤ y < 1.00, and 0.00 < z ≤ 0.50, preferably 0.10 ≤ z ≤ 0.50] is observed to have significantly higher ion conductivity than the solid electrolyte having the formula Na4SnS4. Further, Table 2 and FIG. 2 show the ion conductivity profiles of Na 3.75 Sn 0.75 As 0.25 S4 and Na 3.75 Sn 0.75 Sb 0.25 S4 by the aforementioned EIS method at various temperatures. According to Table 2, the ion conductivity at temperatures above 60 °C exceeds 1.00 mS / cm, which is sufficient for conduction in a solid-state rechargeable sodium-ion battery. This observation indicates that by using Na 3.75 Sn 0.75 As 0.25 S4 as the solid electrolyte according to the present invention, a higher ion conductivity can be obtained than using Na4SnS4, which has been used as an ion insulator due to its low ion conductivity. As shown in FIG. 2, the ion conductivity of the solid electrolyte increases as the operating temperature rises. EX3 generally has higher ion conductivity than Na 3.75 Sn 0.75 Sb 0.25 S4 at any temperature. Therefore, when EX3 is used in a solid-state rechargeable sodium-ion battery, the required ion conductivity can be achieved at relatively low operating temperatures, which is beneficial for the design of the battery management system.
[0040] Regarding the structures of the compounds from Examples 1 to 4, FIG. 1 shows that a series of Na x Sn y As z S4 is properly produced. The Na from FIG. 13.70 Sn 0.70 As 0.30 As the XRD data of S4 suggests, the solid electrolyte Na 3.70 Sn 0.70 As 0.30 S4 is a solid electrolyte Na with z less than 0.30 due to some impurities. x Sn y As z S4 is more preferred. 3.75 Sn 0.75 As 0.25 S4 has a structure in the space group I41 / acd with lattice parameters a of 13.7074 Å, c of 27.3628 Å, and α, β, and γ of 90°.
