[0001] FIELD OF THE DISCLOSURE This application relates to the field of battery technology, and in particular to batteries, power consuming devices, and methods and apparatus for manufacturing batteries. [Background technology]
[0002] Energy conservation and reducing pollutant emissions are the keys to the sustainable development of the automotive industry. In this context, electric vehicles have become an important part of the sustainable development of the automotive industry due to their advantages in energy conservation and environmental protection. Battery technology is also a key factor in the development of electric vehicles. Summary of the Invention [Problem to be solved by the invention]
[0003] In the development of battery technology, apart from the improvement of battery performance, safety issues are also one of the issues that cannot be ignored. If the safety of a battery cannot be guaranteed, the battery cannot be used. Therefore, how to reinforce the safety of a battery is one of the technical issues in battery technology that needs to be solved as soon as possible. [Means for solving the problem]
[0004] SUMMARY OF THE DISCLOSURE The embodiments of the present application provide a battery, a power consuming device, and a method and apparatus for manufacturing a battery that can improve the safety of the battery.
[0005] According to a first aspect, a battery is provided, the battery comprising: a battery cell including a pressure relief mechanism, the pressure relief mechanism being installed on a first wall of the battery cell, the pressure relief mechanism being used to activate and release the internal pressure when an internal pressure or temperature of the battery cell reaches a threshold value; and a thermal management member for containing a fluid to regulate a temperature of the battery cell, a first surface of the thermal management member being attached to the first wall; and a support member being installed opposite the pressure relief mechanism and configured to support the pressure relief mechanism so that the pressure relief mechanism opens at a predetermined angle when the pressure relief mechanism is activated, thereby allowing waste from the battery cell to be discharged toward the thermal management member.
[0006] The technical solution of the embodiment of the present application provides a support member corresponding to the pressure relief mechanism, so that the pressure relief mechanism Operation When doing so, the support member supports the pressure relief mechanism and can prevent the pressure relief mechanism from opening completely, thereby opening the pressure relief mechanism at a predetermined angle and allowing the battery cell exhaust to be discharged in a specified direction from the thermal management member containing the fluid through the open opening of the pressure relief mechanism at the predetermined angle, thus bringing the battery cell exhaust into contact with the thermal management member, which can then cool the battery cell exhaust to reduce its temperature.
[0007] In some embodiments, there is a gap between the support member and the pressure relief mechanism configured to provide an opening space for the pressure relief mechanism.
[0008] By providing a gap between the support member and the pressure relief mechanism, the pressure relief mechanism Operation It can open when needed to provide space for the pressure relief mechanism to operate smoothly. Operation Therefore, waste from the battery cell can be smoothly discharged through the pressure relief mechanism.
[0009] In some embodiments, a weakened area and a connection area are provided on the pressure relief mechanism, and the weakened area and the connection area form a ring such that when the pressure relief mechanism is activated, the pressure relief mechanism can break at the weakened area and open at a predetermined angle.
[0010] A weak area and a connection area are disposed on the pressure relief area, and the weak area and the connection area form a ring, so that when the pressure relief mechanism is activated, the pressure relief mechanism can be broken at the weak area and opened at a predetermined angle relative to the connection area, thereby allowing the exhaust of the battery cell to be exhausted through the pressure relief mechanism, reducing the risk of exhaust and improving the safety of the battery.
[0011] In some embodiments, an orthogonal projection of the furthest point of the weakened area on the first surface is offset from an orthogonal projection of the support member on the first surface, the furthest point being the point of the weakened area farthest from the connection area.
[0012] The orthogonal projection of the furthest point of the weakened area on the first surface is offset from the orthogonal projection of the support member on the first surface, so that when the pressure relief mechanism is activated, the pressure relief mechanism can be broken at the weakened area, and the weakened area can be opened at a sufficiently large angle, so that the waste discharged through the pressure relief mechanism and the thermal management member have a sufficiently large contact area, and the effect of reducing temperature is better. At the same time, the fact that the weakened area can be opened at a sufficiently large angle can reduce the problem of further thermal runaway of the battery cell caused by the delay in the discharge of the waste due to the small opening angle of the weakened area.
[0013] In some embodiments, the extension direction of the support member is parallel to the extension direction of the connection region, the extension direction of the connection region is a direction from one end where the connection region and the weak region are connected to the other end where the connection region and the weak region are connected, and the extension direction of the support member is the longitudinal direction of the support member.
[0014] In some embodiments, the area of weakness may be a score, for example, the shape of the score may include at least one of a "C" shape, a "Z" shape, and an "S" shape.
[0015] In some embodiments, the support member structure is an elongated structure.
[0016] By setting the support member to have a long structure, this can be realized simply and at low cost.
[0017] In some embodiments, the width of the middle region of the elongated structure is greater than the width of both end regions of the elongated structure.
[0018] By configuring the elongated support member so that the width of the intermediate region is large and the width of the end regions is small, the rigidity of the support member can be increased, enabling the support member to better support the pressure release mechanism.
[0019] In some embodiments, a pressure relief hole is disposed on the thermal management member, the pressure relief hole being disposed opposite the pressure relief mechanism, and the pressure relief hole is configured to discharge the effluent.
[0020] By providing a pressure relief hole corresponding to the pressure relief mechanism on the thermal management member, when the pressure relief mechanism is activated, the discharged material from the battery cell can pass through the thermal management member and be discharged toward the side away from the battery cell, reducing the risk of discharged material and improving the safety of the battery.
[0021] In some embodiments, the support member covers a portion of the pressure relief hole, and the area of the support member covering the pressure relief hole is 30% or less of the area of the pressure relief hole.
[0022] By setting the area that the support member blocks the pressure relief hole to 30% or less, the support member does not block the pressure relief hole very much, and when the pressure relief mechanism is activated, exhaust from the battery cell can pass through the thermal management member in a timely manner without accumulating on the thermal management member.
[0023] In some embodiments, the support member is disposed within the pressure relief hole.
[0024] By disposing the support member within the pressure relief hole, the space within the pressure relief hole can be fully utilized to make the battery structure compact and improve the energy density of the battery.
[0025] In some embodiments, the support member structure is a hollow structure, the support member contains a fluid, and the support member is configured to be broken by the effluent when the pressure relief mechanism is activated such that the fluid in the support member is effluent, thereby reducing the temperature of the effluent of the battery cell.
[0026] By setting the support member to a hollow structure and containing a fluid within the support member, when the pressure relief mechanism is activated, the support member can be easily destroyed by the discharged material, and the fluid within the support member can be discharged, thereby achieving the purpose of lowering the temperature of the battery cell.
[0027] In some embodiments, a plurality of the pressure relief holes are disposed opposite one of the support members.
[0028] By arranging a plurality of pressure relief holes on the thermal management member facing one support member, this can be realized simply and at low cost.
[0029] In some embodiments, the support member has a melting point below 600°C.
[0030] In some embodiments, the thermal management member is configured to be disrupted by the discharged material discharged at the predetermined angle when the pressure relief mechanism is activated, allowing the fluid within the thermal management member to be discharged from the interior of the thermal management member.
[0031] When the pressure relief mechanism is activated, the thermal management section is destroyed by the discharged material of the battery cell discharged at a predetermined angle, and the fluid within the thermal management member is discharged from inside the thermal management member, thereby reducing the temperature of the battery cell.
[0032] In some embodiments, a temperature sensitive material is disposed on the thermal management member, and the temperature sensitive material is configured to be melted by the discharged fluid at the predetermined angle when the pressure relief mechanism is activated, thereby allowing the fluid to be discharged from inside the thermal management member.
[0033] By placing a temperature sensitive material on the thermal management member, the pressure relief mechanism Operate Sometimes, the temperature-sensitive material on the thermal management member may be melted by the ejection material ejected at a certain angle, further precluding the thermal management member from being destroyed, allowing fluid to be ejected from inside the thermal management member to rapidly reduce the temperature of the battery cells.
[0034] In some embodiments, the temperature sensitive material is disposed on an area of the thermal management member that faces the effluent discharged at the predetermined angle.
[0035] By placing a temperature sensitive material on the thermal management member in an area facing the effluent discharged at an angle, the thermal management member can be made more susceptible to being destroyed by the effluent.
[0036] According to a second aspect there is provided a power consuming device, the power consuming device comprising a battery according to the first aspect.
[0037] According to a third aspect, there is provided a method for manufacturing a battery, the method including: providing a battery cell including a pressure relief mechanism, the pressure relief mechanism being installed on a first wall of the battery cell, the pressure relief mechanism being activated to release the internal pressure when an internal pressure or temperature of the battery cell reaches a threshold value; providing a thermal management member for containing a fluid to regulate a temperature of the battery cell, a first surface of the thermal management member being attached to the first wall; and providing a support member installed opposite the pressure relief mechanism and configured to support the pressure relief mechanism so that the pressure relief mechanism opens at a predetermined angle when the pressure relief mechanism is activated, thereby allowing exhaust from the battery cell to be discharged toward the thermal management member.
[0038] According to a fourth aspect, there is provided a battery manufacturing apparatus, the manufacturing apparatus including: a providing module used for providing a battery cell including a pressure relief mechanism, the pressure relief mechanism being installed on a first wall of the battery cell, the pressure relief mechanism being used to activate and release the internal pressure when an internal pressure or temperature of the battery cell reaches a threshold value; providing a thermal management member for containing a fluid to regulate a temperature of the battery cell, a first surface of the thermal management member being attached to the first wall; and providing a support member being installed opposite the pressure relief mechanism and configured to support the pressure relief mechanism so that the pressure relief mechanism is opened at a predetermined angle when the pressure relief mechanism is activated, thereby allowing exhaust from the battery cell to be discharged toward the thermal management member. In addition, the terms "first", "second", "third", etc. are used for descriptive purposes only, and should not be understood as indicating or implying relative importance. "Perpendicular" is not strictly perpendicular, but has a margin of error. "Parallel" is not strictly parallel, but has a margin of error.
[0043] The directions appearing in the following description are all directions shown in the drawings, and do not limit the specific structure of the present application. In the description of the present application, it should be further explained that unless otherwise clearly specified or limited, the terms "attached", "connected", "connected" and "attached" should be understood in a broad sense, for example, may be fixedly connected, detachably connected, or integrally connected, may be directly connected, or may be indirectly connected through an intermediate medium. Those skilled in the art can understand the specific meaning of the above terms in the present application according to the specific situation.
[0044] The term "and / or" in this application merely describes the relationship between related objects and indicates that three relationships may exist, for example, A and / or B can represent three cases: A alone, A and B in combination, and B alone. In addition, the character " / " in this application generally indicates that the related objects before and after are in an "or" relationship.
[0045] As used herein, "plurality" refers to two or more (including two); similarly, "sets" refers to two or more (including two); and "multiple sheets" refers to two or more (including two).
[0046] In the present application, the battery cell may include a lithium ion secondary battery, a lithium ion primary battery, a lithium sulfur battery, a sodium lithium ion battery, a sodium ion battery, or a magnesium ion battery, etc., and the embodiments of the present application are not limited thereto. The battery cell may have a cylindrical shape, a flat shape, a rectangular shape, or other shapes, and the embodiments of the present application are not limited thereto. Battery cells are generally divided into three types according to the packaging method, namely, a cylindrical battery cell, a rectangular battery cell, and a pouch battery cell, and the embodiments of the present application are not limited thereto.
[0047] The battery referred to in the embodiments of the present application refers to a single physical module that includes one or more battery cells to provide higher voltage and capacity. For example, the battery referred to in the present application may include a battery module or a battery pack. The battery generally includes a housing for packaging one or more battery cells. The housing can prevent liquid or other foreign matter from affecting the charging or discharging of the battery cells.
[0048] The battery cell includes an electrode assembly and an electrolyte, and the electrode assembly is composed of a positive electrode plate, a negative electrode plate, and a separator. The battery cell is mainly operated by the movement of metal ions between the positive electrode plate and the negative electrode plate. The positive electrode plate includes a positive electrode collector and a positive electrode active material layer, and the positive electrode active material layer is coated on the surface of the positive electrode collector, and the collector on which the positive electrode active material layer is not coated protrudes from the collector on which the positive electrode active material layer is already coated, and the collector on which the positive electrode active material layer is not coated is called a positive electrode tab. Taking a lithium ion battery as an example, the material of the positive electrode collector may be aluminum, and the positive electrode active material may be lithium cobalt oxide, lithium iron phosphate, ternary lithium, or lithium manganate, etc. The negative electrode plate includes a negative electrode collector and a negative electrode active material layer, and the negative electrode active material layer is coated on the surface of the negative electrode collector, and the collector on which the negative electrode active material layer is not coated protrudes from the collector on which the negative electrode active material layer is already coated, and the collector on which the negative electrode active material layer is not coated is called a negative electrode tab. The material of the negative electrode collector may be copper, and the negative electrode active material may be carbon or silicon, etc. In order to ensure that the electrode assembly does not melt even when a large current flows, the number of positive electrode tabs is multiple and stacked, and the number of negative electrode tabs is multiple and stacked. The material of the separator may be PP or PE, etc. The electrode assembly may be a wound structure or a stacked structure, and the embodiment of the present application is not limited thereto.
[0049] The development of battery technology requires simultaneous consideration of a wide range of design factors, such as performance parameters such as energy density, cycle life, discharge capacity, and charge / discharge ratio, as well as battery safety.
[0050] For battery cells, the main safety hazards come from the charging and discharging process, and also from the appropriate environmental temperature design. In order to effectively avoid unnecessary losses, there are generally at least three protection measures for battery cells. Specifically, the protection measures include at least a switch element, a suitable separator material selection, and a pressure relief mechanism. The switch element is an element that can stop the battery from charging or discharging when the temperature or resistance inside the battery cell reaches a certain threshold. The separator is for isolating the positive and negative plates, and can automatically dissolve the micro-holes on the order of micrometers (and even nanometers) attached thereon when the temperature rises to a certain value, so that metal ions cannot pass through the separator, and the internal reaction of the battery cell is stopped.
[0051] The pressure relief mechanism is an element or member that operates to release the internal pressure or temperature when the internal pressure or temperature of the battery cell reaches a certain threshold. The design of this threshold varies according to design needs. The threshold may depend on one or more of the materials of the positive electrode plate, the negative electrode plate, the electrolyte and the separator in the battery cell. The pressure relief mechanism may adopt a form such as an explosion-proof valve, an air valve, a pressure relief valve or a safety valve, and may specifically adopt a pressure-sensitive or temperature-sensitive element or structure, that is, when the internal pressure or temperature of the battery cell reaches a certain threshold, the pressure relief mechanism performs an operation, or a fragile structure provided in the pressure relief mechanism is broken to form an opening or channel for releasing the internal pressure or temperature.
[0052] The term "operation" referred to in this application means that the pressure relief mechanism operates or is activated to a certain state, thereby releasing the internal pressure and temperature of the battery cell. The operation of the pressure relief mechanism may include, but is not limited to, rupturing, breaking, tearing, or opening at least a part of the pressure relief mechanism. When the pressure relief mechanism operates, the high temperature and high pressure material inside the battery cell is discharged from the operating portion as a discharge. In this manner, pressure and temperature relief can be generated in the battery cell when the pressure or temperature is controllable, thereby avoiding the occurrence of a potential more serious accident.
[0053] Exhaust from battery cells referred to in this application includes, but is not limited to, electrolyte, melted or split positive and negative plates, separator fragments, high temperature and pressure gases generated by reactions, flames, etc.
[0054] The pressure relief mechanism on the battery cell has an important impact on the safety of the battery. For example, if a short circuit or overcharging occurs, thermal runaway may occur inside the battery cell, leading to a sudden increase in pressure or temperature. In such a case, the pressure relief mechanism operates to release the internal pressure and temperature to the outside, preventing the battery cell from exploding or catching fire.
[0055] Current design proposals for pressure relief mechanisms mainly focus on releasing the high pressure and heat inside the battery cells, i.e., discharging the discharged materials to the outside of the battery cells. However, in order to ensure the output voltage or current of the battery, multiple battery cells are often required, and the multiple battery cells are electrically connected to each other via busbar members. The discharged materials from the inside of the battery cells may cause a short circuit phenomenon in the remaining battery cells, for example, when the discharged metal chips electrically connect two busbar members, the battery may be short-circuited, which is a safety issue. The high-temperature and high-pressure discharged materials may be discharged toward the direction in which the battery cells are installed in the pressure relief mechanism, and more specifically, may be discharged along the direction toward the area where the pressure relief mechanism operates, and such discharged materials may have sufficient force and destructive power to break through one or more structures in this direction, causing further safety issues.
[0056] In view of this, the present application provides a technical solution, by installing a supporting member corresponding to the pressure release mechanism, when the pressure release mechanism is operated, the supporting member can support the pressure release mechanism and prevent the pressure release mechanism from being fully opened, so that the pressure release mechanism is opened at a predetermined angle, and the exhaust of the battery cell can be discharged from the thermal management member containing the fluid in a specified direction through the opening of the pressure release mechanism at a predetermined angle, thus making the exhaust of the battery cell come into contact with the thermal management member, and even destroying the thermal management member to allow the fluid to flow out of the thermal management member, thereby reducing the temperature of the exhaust of the battery cell, reducing the risk of the exhaust, and further improving the safety of the battery.
[0057] The technical solutions described in the embodiments of the present application are applicable to various devices that use batteries, such as mobile phones, portable devices, notebook computers, battery-powered vehicles, electric toys, electric tools, electric vehicles, ships, and spacecraft, including, for example, airplanes, rockets, space shuttles, and spaceships.
[0058] It should be understood that the technical solutions described in the embodiments of the present application are not limited to the devices described above, but can also be applied to all devices that use batteries. For the sake of brevity, however, the following embodiments will be described using an electric vehicle as an example.
[0059] For example, as shown in FIG. 1, FIG. 1 is a structural schematic diagram of a vehicle 1 in one embodiment of the present application, the vehicle 1 may be a fuel oil vehicle, a gas vehicle or a new energy vehicle, and the new energy vehicle may be a pure electric vehicle, a hybrid vehicle or a range extender vehicle, etc. A motor 40, a controller 30 and a battery 10 may be installed inside the vehicle 1, and the controller 30 is for controlling the battery 10 to supply power to the motor 40. For example, the battery 10 may be installed at the bottom, front or rear of the vehicle 1. The battery 10 may be used to power the vehicle 1, for example, the battery 10 may be used as an operating power source for the vehicle 1, for the circuit system of the vehicle 1, for example, for the start-up, navigation and operating power consumption demand during operation of the vehicle 1. In another embodiment of the present application, the battery 10 may be used not only as an operating power source for the vehicle 1, but also as a driving power source for the vehicle 1, to provide driving power to the vehicle 1 instead of fuel oil or natural gas, or instead of a part thereof.
[0060] In order to meet different power demands, a battery may include multiple battery cells, and the multiple battery cells may be connected in series, parallel, or series-parallel, where the series-parallel connection is a mixture of the series and parallel connections. The battery may be called a battery pack. Alternatively, multiple battery cells may be connected in series, parallel, or series-parallel to form a battery module, and then multiple battery modules may be connected in series, parallel, or series-parallel to form a battery. That is, the multiple battery cells may directly form a battery, or a battery module may be formed, and then the battery module may be used to form a battery.
[0061] For example, as shown in FIG. 2, FIG. 2 is a structural schematic diagram of a battery 10 in one embodiment of the present application, where the battery 10 may include a number of battery cells 20.
[0062] The battery 10 may further include a housing (or called a cover body), the inside of which is a hollow structure, and the multiple battery cells 20 are housed in the housing. As shown in FIG. 2, the housing may include both parts, which are called a first part 111 and a second part 112, respectively, and the first part 111 and the second part 112 are engaged with each other. The shapes of the first part 111 and the second part 112 may be determined by the shape of the combination of the multiple battery cells 20, and each of the first part 111 and the second part 112 may have one opening. For example, the first part 111 and the second part 112 may both be hollow rectangular parallelepipeds and each may have only one surface as an opening surface, and the opening of the first part 111 and the opening of the second part 112 are placed opposite to each other, and the first part 111 and the second part 112 are engaged with each other to form a housing having a sealed chamber. Also, for example, unlike that shown in FIG. 2, only one of the first part 111 and the second part 112 may be a hollow rectangular parallelepiped with an opening, and the other may be a plate-like shape that covers the opening. For example, in the example here where the second part 112 is a hollow rectangular parallelepiped with only one open surface and the first part 111 is plate-shaped, the first part 111 covers the opening of the second part 112 to form a housing having a sealed chamber, and this chamber may be used to accommodate a plurality of battery cells 20. After combining the plurality of battery cells 20 by connecting them in parallel, in series, or in series-parallel, they are placed in the housing formed by the engagement of the first part 111 and the second part 112.
[0063] Optionally, the battery 10 may further include other structures, which will not be described further herein. For example, the battery 10 may further include a busbar member for realizing an electrical connection between the multiple battery cells 20, such as a parallel connection, a series connection, or a series-parallel connection. Specifically, the busbar member can connect the electrode terminals of the battery cells 20 to realize the electrical connection between the battery cells 20. Furthermore, the busbar member can be fixed to the electrode terminals of the battery cells 20 by welding. The electrical energy of the multiple battery cells 20 can further be conducted through the housing by a conductive mechanism. Optionally, the conductive mechanism may belong to the busbar member.
[0064] According to different power demands, the number of the battery cells 20 may be set to any value. The battery cells 20 may be connected in series, parallel, or series-parallel connection to achieve a relatively large capacity or power. Since the number of battery cells 20 included in each battery 10 may be large, the battery cells 20 may be set in groups to facilitate installation, and the battery cells 20 in each group may constitute a battery module. The number of the battery cells 20 included in the battery module is not limited and may be set according to demand. For example, FIG. 3 is an example of a battery module. The battery 10 may include a plurality of battery modules that can be connected in series, parallel, or series-parallel connection.
[0065] As shown in FIG. 4, FIG. 4 is a structural schematic diagram of a battery cell 20 according to an embodiment of the present application, in which the battery cell 20 includes one or more electrode assemblies 22, a case 211, a cover plate 212, and a pressure relief mechanism 213. The case 211 and the cover plate 212 form a housing or battery box 21. The wall of the case 211 and the cover plate 212 are both referred to as the wall of the battery cell 20. The case 211 is determined by the shape of the one or more electrode assemblies 22 after being combined with each other, for example, the case 211 may be a hollow rectangular or square prism or cylinder, and may have an opening on one surface of the case 211 so that the one or more electrode assemblies 22 can be disposed in the case 211. For example, when the case 211 is a hollow rectangular or square prism, one plane of the case 211 is an opening plane, i.e., this plane does not have a wall, thereby communicating the inside and outside of the case 211. When the case 211 may be a hollow cylinder, an end surface of the case 211 is an open surface, i.e., this end surface does not have a wall, thereby communicating the inside and the outside of the case 211. A cover plate 212 covers the opening and is connected to the case 211, thereby forming a sealed cavity in which the electrode assembly 22 is disposed. The case 211 is filled with an electrolyte, for example, an electrolyte solution.
[0066] The battery cell 20 may further include two electrode terminals 214, which may be installed on the cover plate 212. The cover plate 212 is generally flat, and the two electrode terminals 214 are fixed on the flat surface of the cover plate 212, and the two electrode terminals 214 are a first electrode terminal 214a and a second electrode terminal 214b, respectively. The polarities of the two electrode terminals 214 are opposite. For example, when the first electrode terminal 214a is a positive electrode terminal, the second electrode terminal 214b is a negative electrode terminal. Each electrode terminal 214 is provided with a corresponding connection part 23 (also called a current collecting part 23) located between the cover plate 212 and the electrode assembly 22 to realize an electrical connection between the electrode assembly 22 and the electrode terminal 214.
[0067] As shown in FIG. 4, each electrode assembly 22 has a first tab 221a and a second tab 222a. The polarities of the first tab 221a and the second tab 222a are opposite. For example, when the first tab 221a is a positive tab, the second tab 222a is a negative tab. The first tab 221a of one or more electrode assemblies 22 is connected to one electrode terminal 214 through one connection part 23, and the second tab 222a of one or more electrode assemblies 22 is connected to another electrode terminal 214 through another connection part 23. For example, the positive electrode terminal is connected to the positive electrode tab through one connection part 23, and the negative electrode terminal is connected to the negative electrode tab through another connection part 23.
[0068] The battery cell 20 may have one or more electrode assemblies 22 according to actual usage needs. As shown in FIG. 4, four independent electrode assemblies 22 are installed in the battery cell 20.
[0069] A pressure relief mechanism 213 is further provided on one wall of the battery cell 20, that is, the first wall 21a shown in Fig. 4. For ease of illustration, the first wall 21a and the case 211 are separated in Fig. 4, but this is not limited to having an opening on the bottom side of the case 211. The pressure relief mechanism 213 is used to operate and release the internal pressure when the internal pressure or temperature of the battery cell 20 reaches a threshold value.
[0070] The pressure relief mechanism 213 may be a part of the first wall 21a, or may be a separate structure from the first wall 21a, for example, fixed on the first wall 21a by welding. When the pressure relief mechanism 213 is a part of the first wall 21a, for example, the pressure relief mechanism 213 may be formed by setting a score on the first wall 21a, and the thickness of the first wall 21a corresponding to the score is smaller than the thickness of other areas of the pressure relief mechanism 213 except for the score portion. The score portion is the weakest position of the pressure relief mechanism 213. When the pressure inside the case 211 increases and reaches a threshold due to too much gas generated from the battery cell 20, or when the temperature inside the battery cell 20 increases and reaches a threshold due to the amount of heat generated by the reaction inside the battery cell 20, the pressure relief mechanism 213 breaks at the score portion, thereby communicating the inside and outside of the case 211, and the gas pressure and temperature are released to the outside by the breakage of the pressure relief mechanism 213, thereby avoiding the explosion of the battery cell 20.
[0071] Optionally, in one embodiment of the present application, as shown in FIG. 4, when the pressure relief mechanism 213 is installed on a first wall 21a of the battery cell 20, an electrode terminal 214 is installed on a second wall of the battery cell 20, and the second wall is different from the first wall 21a.
[0072] Optionally, the second wall is disposed opposite the first wall 21 a. For example, the first wall 21 a may be the bottom wall of the battery cell 20, and the second wall may be the top wall, i.e., the cover plate 212, of the battery cell 20.
[0073] By locating the pressure relief mechanism 213 and the electrode terminal 214 on different walls of the battery cell 20, when the pressure relief mechanism 213 is activated, the discharged matter of the battery cell 20 can be further away from the electrode terminal 214, thereby reducing the impact of the discharged matter on the electrode terminal 214 and the bus bar members, thereby improving the safety of the battery 10.
[0074] Furthermore, when the electrode terminal 214 is installed on the cover plate 212 of the battery cell 20, the pressure relief mechanism 213 is installed on the bottom wall of the battery cell 20, so that when the pressure relief mechanism 213 is activated, the discharged material of the battery cell 20 can be discharged toward the bottom of the battery 10. In this manner, the risk of discharged material can be reduced using a thermal management member or the like, while the bottom of the battery 10 is generally away from the user, thereby reducing the risk of harm to the user.
[0075] The pressure relief mechanism 213 may have various possible pressure relief structures, and the embodiments of the present application are not limited thereto. For example, the pressure relief mechanism 213 may be a temperature-sensitive pressure relief mechanism configured to melt when the internal temperature of the battery cell 20 in which the pressure relief mechanism 213 is provided reaches a threshold value, and / or the pressure relief mechanism 213 may be a pressure-sensitive pressure relief mechanism configured to break when the internal air pressure of the battery cell 20 in which the pressure relief mechanism 213 is provided reaches a threshold value.
[0076] 4, a weak area 2131 and a connection area 2132 are provided on the pressure relief mechanism 213, and the weak area 2131 and the connection area 2132 form a ring shape so that when the pressure relief mechanism 213 is operated, the pressure relief mechanism 213 can be broken at the weak area 2131 and opened at a predetermined angle. Thus, the waste of the battery cell 20 can be discharged from the pressure relief mechanism 213, reducing the risk of waste and improving the safety of the battery 10.
[0077] In some embodiments, the weakened area 2131 may be formed of a material that is easily melted, and the melting point of the connection area 2132 is higher than that of the weakened area 2131, so that when the pressure relief mechanism 213 is activated, the pressure relief mechanism 213 can be melted in the area where the material that is easily melted is located and opened at a predetermined angle relative to the connection area 2132, thereby allowing the exhaust of the battery cell 20 to be discharged from the pressure relief mechanism 213, and improving the safety of the battery 10. In another embodiment, the weakened area 2131 may be a score, and the thickness or strength of the connection area 2132 is greater than that of the weakened area 2131, so that when the pressure relief mechanism 213 is activated, the pressure relief mechanism 213 can be broken at the score, and the weakened area 2131 is opened at a predetermined angle relative to the connection area 2132, thereby allowing the exhaust of the battery cell 20 to be discharged from the pressure relief mechanism 213, reducing the risk of exhaust and improving the safety of the battery 10.
[0078] 5 to 7 show schematic diagrams of the pressure relief mechanism 213 according to an embodiment of the present application. For example, as shown in FIG. 5, the shape of the weakened area 2131 may be a "C" shape. For example, as shown in FIG. 6, the shape of the weakened area 2131 may be an "S" shape. For example, as shown in FIG. 7, the shape of the weakened area 2131 may be a "Z" shape.
[0079] 5, the connection region 2132 is one, for example, indicated by a dotted line between the a1 end and the a2 end, where the a1 end is one end connected between the weak region 2131 and the connection region 2132, and the a2 end is the other end connected between the weak region 2131 and the connection region 2132. The ring-shaped shape formed by the weak region 2131 and the connection region 2132 is one, that is, a shape formed from the a1 end along the weak region 2131 to the a2 end, and from the a2 end along the connection region 2132 to the a1 end.
[0080] In another embodiment, as shown in FIG. 6, there are two connection regions 2132, namely, a first connection region 2132a and a second connection region 2132b, where the first connection region 2132a is indicated by a dotted line between the b1 end and the b2 end, and the second connection region 2132b is indicated by a dotted line between the b3 end and the b4 end, where the b1 end is one end connected between the weak region 2131 and the first connection region 2132a, the b2 end is the other end of the connection between the weak region 2131 and the first connection region 2132a, the b3 end is one end connected between the weak region 2131 and the second connection region 2132b, and the b4 end is the other end connected between the weak region 2131 and the second connection region 2132b. There are two rings formed by the weak region 2131 and the connection region 2132, namely, a shape formed from the b1 end along the weak region 2131 to the b4 end, then from the b4 end to the b2 end along the weak region 2131, and further from the b2 end to the b1 end along the first connection region 2132a, and a shape formed from the b4 end to the b1 end along the weak region 2131, then from the b1 end to the b3 end along the weak region 2131, and further from the b3 end to the b4 end along the second connection region 2132b. Moreover, the two rings formed by the weak region 2131 and the connection region 2132 may partially overlap. For example, the region from the b4 end to the b1 end in the weak region 2131.
[0081] In some other embodiments, as shown in FIG. 7, the connection region 2132 is also two, namely, a third connection region 2132c and a fourth connection region 2132d, where the third connection region 2132c is indicated by a dotted line between the c1 end and the c2 end, and the fourth connection region 2132d is indicated by a dotted line between the c3 end and the c4 end, where the c1 end is one end connected between the weak region 2131 and the third connection region 2132c, the c2 end is the other end connected between the weak region 2131 and the third connection region 2132c, the c3 end is one end connected between the weak region 2131 and the fourth connection region 2132d, and the c4 end is the other end connected between the weak region 2131 and the fourth connection region 2132d. There are two rings formed by the weak region 2131 and the connection region 2132, namely, a shape formed from the c1 end along the weak region 2131 to the c4 end, then from the c4 end to the c2 end along the weak region 2131, and further from the c2 end to the c1 end along the third connection region 2132c, and a shape formed from the c4 end to the c1 end along the weak region 2131, then from the c1 end to the c3 end along the weak region 2131, and further from the c3 end to the b4 end along the fourth connection region 2132d. Moreover, the two rings formed by the weak region 2131 and the connection region 2132 may partially overlap. For example, the region from the c4 end to the c1 end in the weak region 2131.
[0082] 8 is a cross-sectional structural schematic diagram of a battery 10 according to an embodiment of the present application. Here, the pressure relief mechanism 213 in FIG. 8 is in an inactive state. As shown in FIG. 8, the battery 10 may include a battery cell 20, a thermal management member 50, and a support member 60.
[0083] The battery cell 20 includes a pressure relief mechanism 213, which is installed on the first wall 21a of the battery cell 20, and the pressure relief mechanism 213 is used to activate and release the internal pressure when the internal pressure or temperature of the battery cell 20 reaches a threshold. For example, the battery cell 20 may be the battery cell 20 shown in FIG. 4.
[0084] The support member 60 is installed opposite the pressure relief mechanism 213, and the support member 60 is configured to support the pressure relief mechanism 213 so that when the pressure relief mechanism 213 is activated, the pressure relief mechanism 213 opens at a predetermined angle, thereby allowing exhaust from the battery cell 20 to be discharged toward the thermal management member 50.
[0085] In some embodiments, as shown in FIG. 8, when the pressure relief mechanism 213 is not in operation, there is a gap between the support member 60 and the pressure relief mechanism 213, and this gap can provide an open space for the pressure relief mechanism 213. Thereby, the pressure relief mechanism 213 can be smoothly Operation Therefore, waste from the battery cell 20 can be smoothly discharged through the pressure relief mechanism 213.
[0086] In some embodiments, due to the limited internal space of the battery 10, the orthogonal projection of the furthest point of the weak area 2131 on the first surface 51 of the thermal management member 50 is offset from the orthogonal projection of the weak area 2131 on the first surface 51 of the support member 60, and the furthest point is the point furthest from the connection area 2132 in the weak area 2131, so that the pressure relief mechanism 213 can be opened at a sufficiently large predetermined angle when it is activated, and the furthest point is the point furthest from the connection area 2132 in the weak area 2131. In this way, it is possible to ensure that the pressure relief mechanism 213 breaks at the weak area 2131 when it is activated, and the weak area 2131 can be opened at a sufficiently large angle, so that the waste discharged through the pressure relief mechanism 213 and the thermal management member 50 have a sufficiently large contact area, and the effect of reducing temperature is better. At the same time, the fact that the weak area 2131 can be opened at a sufficiently large angle can reduce the problem of further thermal runaway of the battery cell 20 caused by the delay in the discharge of the waste due to the small opening angle of the weak area 2131.
[0087] Alternatively, the number of the farthest points may be one or more. When the number of the farthest points is multiple, the orthogonal projection of at least one of the multiple farthest points on the first surface 51 may be different from the orthogonal projection of the support member 60 on the first surface 51.
[0088] 9 to 11 are schematic diagrams of orthogonal projections on a first surface of a thermal management member of a pressure relief mechanism according to an embodiment of the present application, where one support member 60 and one pressure relief mechanism 213 are shown in FIG.
[0089] 9, the weak region 2131 is a "C"-shaped score, and the furthest point in the weak region 2131 is any one point in the region corresponding to the connection region 2132 (i.e., the region from the m1 end to the m2 end), and for convenience of description, the furthest point is defined as point m. At this time, the orthogonal projection of point m on the first surface 51 is shifted from the orthogonal projection of the support member 60 on the first surface 51 (the hatched portion shown in FIG. 9).
[0090] 10, the weak region 2131 is an "S"-shaped score, and the furthest point in the weak region 2131 includes the furthest point between the weak region 2131 and the first connection region 2132a and the furthest point between the weak region 2131 and the second connection region 2132b. Here, the furthest point between the weak region 2131 and the first connection region 2132a is point b4, and the furthest point between the weak region 2131 and the second connection region 2132b is point b1. At this time, the orthogonal projections of points b1 and b2 on the first surface 51 are misaligned with the orthogonal projections (hatched portions shown in FIG. 10) of the support member 60 on the first surface 51.
[0091] 11, the weak region 2131 is a "Z" shaped score, and the furthest point in the weak region 2131 includes the furthest point between the weak region 2131 and the third connection region 2132c and the furthest point between the weak region 2131 and the fourth connection region 2132d. Here, the furthest point between the weak region 2131 and the third connection region 2132c is point c3, and the furthest point between the weak region 2131 and the fourth connection region 2132d is point c2. At this time, the orthogonal projections of point c3 and point c2 on the first surface 51 are misaligned with the orthogonal projections (hatched portions shown in FIG. 11) of the support member 60 on the first surface 51.
[0092] In some embodiments, the extension direction of the support member 60 may be parallel to the extension direction of the connection region 2132 so that the support member 60 can be opened at a predetermined angle when the pressure relief mechanism 213 is activated, where the extension direction of the connection region 2132 is from one end connected to the connection region 2132 and the weak region 2131 to the other end connected to the connection region 2132 and the weak region 2131, and the extension direction of the support member 60 is the longitudinal direction of the support member 60. This allows the weak region 2131 to be opened at a certain predetermined angle, and the waste discharged from the battery cell 20 can be discharged to the thermal management member 50 along the opening angle of the weak region 2131, reducing the risk of waste and improving the safety of the battery 10.
[0093] Optionally, in an embodiment in which there are two connection regions 2132 , the extension direction of at least one of the two connection regions 2132 is parallel to the extension direction of the support member 60 .
[0094] As shown in FIG. 9, the extension direction of the connection region 2132 is the direction from a1 to a2 (or the direction from a2 to a1), and the extension direction of the support member 60 is the longitudinal direction of the support member 60, i.e., the direction from a1 to a2 (or the direction from a2 to a1) is parallel to the longitudinal direction of the support member 60.
[0095] 10, the extension direction of the first connection region 2132a is the direction from b1 to b2 (or the direction from b2 to b1), and the extension direction of the support member 60 is the longitudinal direction of the support member 60, i.e., the direction from b1 to b2 (or the direction from b2 to b1) is parallel to the longitudinal direction of the support member 60. The extension direction of the second connection region 2132b is the direction from b3 to b4 (or the direction from b4 to b3), and the extension direction of the support member 60 is the longitudinal direction of the support member 60, i.e., the direction from b3 to b4 (or the direction from b4 to b3) is parallel to the longitudinal direction of the support member 60.
[0096] 11, the extension direction of the third connection region 2132c is the direction from c1 to c2 (or the direction from c2 to c1), and the extension direction of the support member 60 is the longitudinal direction of the support member 60, i.e., the direction from c1 to c2 (or the direction from c2 to c1) is parallel to the longitudinal direction of the support member 60. The extension direction of the fourth connection region 2132d is the direction from d3 to d4 (or the direction from d4 to d3), and the extension direction of the support member 60 is the longitudinal direction of the support member 60, i.e., the direction from d3 to d4 (or the direction from d4 to d3) is parallel to the longitudinal direction of the support member 60.
[0097] FIG. 12 is a schematic cross-sectional view of a battery 10 according to an embodiment of the present application. Here, the pressure relief mechanism 213 shown by the dotted line in FIG. Non The pressure relief mechanism 213, which is in operation and shown in solid lines in FIG. Made by 12 , when the pressure relief mechanism 213 is activated, the support member 60 can support the pressure relief mechanism 213 such that the pressure relief mechanism 213 is opened at a predetermined angle θ, so that the exhaust of the battery cell 20 can be discharged toward the thermal management member 50. In this way, the exhaust can be discharged toward the thermal management member 50 along the predetermined angle at which the pressure relief mechanism 213 is opened, and away from the battery cell 20, reducing the risk and thereby improving the safety of the battery 10.
[0098] Optionally, the structure of the support member 60 is an elongated structure. In some embodiments, the width of the elongated support member 60 is the same, i.e., the support member 60 is a rectangular parallelepiped structure. In another embodiment, the width of the middle region of the elongated support member 60 can be set larger than the width of both end regions of the elongated support member 60 in order to increase the rigidity of the support member. For example, FIG. 13 is a structural schematic diagram of a support member according to an embodiment of the present application. 131, the support member 60 includes a third portion 61, a fourth portion 62, and a fifth portion 63, the third portion 61 and the fourth portion 62 being elongated structures, the fifth portion 63 being cylindrical structures, and the widths of the third portion 61 and the fourth portion 62 are all smaller than the width of the fifth portion 63. Of course, as can be understood, the support member 60 may be cylindrical, square, or other structures as long as it is capable of supporting the pressure relief mechanism 213.
[0099] Alternatively, in some embodiments, the support member 60 may employ a material having a melting point of less than 600° C. For example, the support member 60 may employ aluminum or copper, etc. In another embodiment, the support member 60 may employ an organic material. For example, the support member 60 may employ a polypropylene (PP) material.
[0100] It should be understood that when the pressure relief mechanism 213 is activated, the support member 60 is mainly used to support the weak area 2131 of the pressure relief mechanism 213 when the weak area 2131 is opened at a certain angle. If the support member 60 still supports the pressure relief mechanism 213 after the thermal runaway of the battery cell 20 continues, the exhaust cannot be discharged smoothly and quickly, which may cause further thermal runaway of the battery cell 20 and even explosion. Therefore, the support member 60 is melted at high temperature, which can facilitate the subsequent discharge of the battery cell 20 to be discharged, and further improve the safety of the battery 10.
[0101] The thermal management member 50 is used to contain a fluid to adjust the temperature of the battery cells 20. When the temperature of the battery cells 20 is to be reduced, the thermal management member 50 may contain a cooling medium to adjust the temperature of the battery cells 20, and in this case, the thermal management member 50 is also called a cooling member, a cooling system, or a cooling plate. The thermal management member 50 may also be used for heating, and the embodiment of the present application is not limited thereto. Optionally, the fluid in the thermal management member 50 may be in a cyclic flow to achieve a better temperature adjustment effect.
[0102] The first surface 51 of the thermal management member 50 is attached to the first wall 21a of the battery cell 20. That is, the wall of the battery cell 20 on which the pressure relief mechanism 213 is installed faces the thermal management member 50. In this manner, the pressure relief mechanism 213 Operation After this, the exhaust of the battery cells 20 can be discharged towards the thermal management member 50.
[0103] It should be understood that the first surface 51 of the thermal management member 50 is attached to the first wall 21a of the battery cell 20, and that the first surface 51 of the thermal management member 50 directly or indirectly contacts the first wall 21a of the battery cell 20, and the heat quantity of the battery cell 20 can be transferred to the thermal management member 50 so as to regulate the heat quantity of the battery cell 20.
[0104] 14 is a structural schematic diagram of another thermal management member disclosed in some embodiments of the present application. In some embodiments, as shown in FIG. 14, a pressure relief hole 52 is provided on the thermal management member 50, and the pressure relief hole 52 is provided opposite the pressure relief mechanism 213, and the pressure relief hole 52 is configured to discharge the exhaust. The pressure relief hole 52 and the pressure relief mechanism 213 are provided opposite each other, and the pressure relief mechanism 213 and the support member 60 are provided opposite each other, so that the pressure relief hole 52 and the support member 60 are also provided opposite each other. Therefore, by providing the pressure relief hole 52 corresponding to the pressure relief mechanism 213 on the thermal management member 50, when the pressure relief mechanism 213 is activated, the exhaust discharged at a certain angle of the battery cell 20 can pass through the thermal management member 50 and be discharged toward the side away from the battery cell 20, reducing the risk of the exhaust and improving the safety of the battery 10.
[0105] In some embodiments, the support member 60 blocks a portion of the pressure relief hole 52. For example, the area of the support member 60 blocking the pressure relief hole 52 is 30% or less of the area of the pressure relief hole 52. This allows the support member 60 to block the pressure relief hole 52 only slightly, and further allows the exhaust from the battery cell 20 to pass through the thermal management member 50 in a timely manner and be discharged toward the side away from the battery cell 20 when the pressure relief mechanism 213 is activated, without accumulating on the thermal management member 50.
[0106] Optionally, one pressure relief hole 52 may correspond to one or more pressure relief mechanisms 213 .
[0107] Fig. 15 is a structural schematic diagram of a battery disclosed in some embodiments of the present application. Fig. 16 is an enlarged structural schematic diagram of a portion A of the battery shown in Fig. 15. In some embodiments, as shown in Fig. 15, the thermal management member 50 may further include a first thermally conductive plate 53 and a second thermally conductive plate 54, the first thermally conductive plate 53 being located between the first wall 21a and the second thermally conductive plate 54 and attached to the first wall 21a, and the first thermally conductive plate 53 and the second thermally conductive plate 54 forming a flow path 55 for receiving a fluid. As shown in Fig. 16, a first region 541 of the second thermally conductive plate 54 is separated from the first thermally conductive plate 53. direction In this manner, a flow path 55 is formed in the groove.
[0108] Optionally, pressure relief holes 52 may be located on a second region of thermal management member 50, the second region not corresponding to flow passage 55. For example, pressure relief holes 52 may be located on an area of thermal management member 50 other than first region 541.
[0109] Alternatively, the thermal management member 50 may be broken by the discharged material at a predetermined angle when the pressure relief mechanism 213 is activated, so that the thermal management member 50 The fluid inside the pressure relief mechanism 213 can be discharged from the inside of the thermal management member 50, and the temperature of the battery cell 20 can be further reduced. In addition, due to the existence of the weak area 2131 and the support member 60 on the pressure relief mechanism 213, when the pressure relief mechanism 213 is operated, the support member 60 can support the weak area 2131 of the pressure relief mechanism 213, and the weak area 2131 can be opened at a predetermined angle, so that the exhaust of the battery cell 20 can be intensively discharged toward the thermal management member 50 along the predetermined angle, and thus the thermal management member 50 can be destroyed more quickly, and the rapid response ability of the thermal management member 50 to the thermal runaway of the battery cell 20 can be improved.
[0110] Optionally, a temperature-sensitive material may be provided on the thermal management member 50 to realize that the thermal management member 50 can be easily destroyed by the effluent, and the temperature-sensitive material on the thermal management member 50 is configured to be melted by the effluent discharged at a predetermined angle when the pressure relief mechanism 213 is activated, so that the fluid can be discharged from inside the thermal management member 50, and further reduce the temperature of the battery cells 20. In some embodiments, the temperature-sensitive material is provided on the region of the thermal management member 50 facing the effluent discharged at a predetermined angle and on the region near this region. For example, the temperature-sensitive material may be provided on the sidewall of the pressure relief hole 52 or the surrounding region of the pressure relief hole 52 on the first surface 51 of the thermal management member 50.
[0111] In some embodiments, thermal management member 50 may be housed within second portion 112 of the housing, and first surface 51 of thermal management member 50 is spaced from a bottom of second portion 112 .
[0112] In some embodiments, the support member 60 may be disposed in the thermal management member 50, thus making full use of the space in the thermal management member 50 to compact the structure of the battery 10 and improve the energy density of the battery 10. For example, Figs. 17 and 18 are structural schematic diagrams of another thermal management member 50 according to an embodiment of the present application, respectively. As shown in Figs. 17 and 18, the support member 60 may be disposed in the pressure relief hole 52 of the thermal management member 50. Here, the difference between Figs. 17 and 18 is that the structure of the support member 60 is different.
[0113] In some embodiments where the thermal management member 50 includes a first thermal conduction plate 53 and a second thermal conduction plate 54, the pressure relief holes 52 penetrate through the first thermal conduction plate 53 and the second thermal conduction plate 54, and a support member 60 is provided in the pressure relief holes 52 of the second thermal conduction plate 54. FIG. 19 is a structural schematic diagram of another thermal management member disclosed in an embodiment of the present application, and FIG. 20 is an exploded structural schematic diagram of the thermal management member shown in FIG. 19. In another embodiment, as shown in FIG. 19 and FIG. 20, the pressure relief holes 52 penetrate through the first thermal conduction plate 53 and the second thermal conduction plate 54, and a support member 60 is provided in the pressure relief holes 52 of the second thermal conduction plate 54.
[0114] At this time, in some embodiments, the support member 60 and the thermal management member 50 are integrally molded for ease of processing. For example, when manufacturing the thermal management member 50, two holes may be machined on the thermal management member 50, and the support member 60 may be formed between the two holes. In another embodiment, the support member 60 may be welded or glued into the pressure relief hole 52.
