Abstract
Description
[Technical field]
[0001] The present disclosure relates to the field of containers for cosmetics. More particularly, the present disclosure relates to a device for dispensing cosmetics comprising a base and a cartridge configured to be removably coupled to each other. The present disclosure particularly relates to a lipstick dispensing device. [Background technology]
[0002] A device for dispensing cosmetic products may comprise a base and a cartridge coupled to the base. This is in particular the case for a lipstick dispensing device. The cartridge contains a stick of lipstick and the base makes it possible to grip the lipstick dispensing device.
[0003] The cartridge and base are aligned along the longitudinal axis of the dispenser. When assembled, the base can be rotated relative to the cartridge in order to dispense the lipstick. Thus, by imparting rotation of the base relative to the cartridge via the cartridge control socket, it is possible to move a receptacle (also called a cup) for the stick of lipstick along the longitudinal axis of the dispenser.
[0004] Usually, the base and the cartridge are permanently connected, so that when the stick of lipstick is consumed, it is necessary to purchase a whole new dispensing device.
[0005] Therefore, to overcome the above drawbacks, dispensing devices have been made in which the base and the cartridge are removably coupled. Thus, when a stick of lipstick is consumed, it is possible to separate the base and the cartridge and replace only the cartridge, which is more environmentally friendly. With this system, a user can have a single base and several cartridges corresponding to different colors of lipstick. Summary of the Invention [Problem to be solved by the invention]
[0006] The connection between the cartridge and the base can be of several kinds. For example, the connection can be magnetic. The cartridge can have an element made of ferromagnetic material and the base can have a magnet that can cooperate with the ferromagnetic element. This type of connection can have the drawback that the cartridge can become detached from the base during use due to improper handling by the user.
[0007] Another type of connection between the cartridge and base involves a resilient interlock (snap-fit) of one into the other, which can loosen over time, causing premature decoupling of the cartridge and base. [Means for solving the problem]
[0008] A refillable assembly for dispensing cosmetic products, particularly lipstick, is proposed that defines a longitudinal axis, the assembly comprising: - a base; - a cartridge selectively connectable to a base, the cartridge having an outer sleeve and a control socket inside the sleeve and disposed in a lower portion of the cartridge, the control socket permitting withdrawal of a cosmetic product from the cartridge, the cartridge having an opening in the control socket; The base portion includes: - a cartridge receiving element having a sleeve adapted to receive a lower portion of the cartridge therein; - a cartridge locking element, the locking element being movable relative to the receiving element in at least a rotation about a longitudinal axis in a first direction towards an open position and in a second direction towards a closed position, in which in the open position the cartridge is movable relative to the base along the longitudinal axis, and in the closed position the cartridge is integrated with the base along the longitudinal axis when the cartridge is inserted into the base, and a connection between the locking element and the receiving element comprises a closing abutment in the closed position, whereby when the locking element is in the closed position and the base is rotated in the second direction the receiving element and the locking element are integrated in rotation, and a control socket of the cartridge is driven by a transmission element of the base that is engagable with the control socket of the cartridge; Equipped with.
[0009] The refillable assembly for dispensing cosmetic products is intuitive, easily finger accessible and provides a mechanically reliable system for locking and unlocking the cartridge.
[0010] The features described in the following paragraphs may be implemented as options, either independently of one another or in combination with one another.
[0011] - The transmitting element is placed on the receiving element.
[0012] The base comprises a locking member which is engageable in a control socket of the cartridge depending on the position of the locking element.
[0013] The locking member is in the locking element and the receiving element has a bottom portion in contact with the locking element which partially closes the lower portion of the sleeve body, the bottom portion having an opening which receives the locking member.
[0014] The locking member is arranged in a bottom portion of the receiving element, the bottom portion partially closing a lower portion of the sleeve body.
[0015] the connection between the locking element and the receiving element comprises an open abutment in the open position when the base is rotated in the first direction.
[0016] - the connection between the locking element and the receiving element further comprises a closure catch at the closure abutment to create resistance when the locking element is in the closed position and the base is rotated in a first direction, the closure catch helping to prevent undesired rotation of the locking element in a direction opposite to the closing direction.
[0017] - The connection between the locking element and the receiving element comprises a slot on one of the locking element and the receiving element and a finger on the other of the locking element and the receiving element, the finger being engaged with the slot and movable within the slot.
[0018] - the slot has the general shape of a circular arc extending at a fixed longitudinal position. A circular slot allows for rotational movements similar to those performed to actuate a lipstick dispensing mechanism.
[0019] - the slot has an overall shape of a circular arc extending in a variable longitudinal position such that the locking element follows a helical motion when the locking element is moved relative to the receiving element in the first direction or the second direction.
[0020] the rotation between the locking element and the receiving element occurs over an angle of less than 180 degrees, preferably less than 90 degrees, even more preferably about 75 degrees, about the longitudinal axis.
[0021] The transmission element comprises a plurality of protrusions arranged at a bottom portion around the locking member at equal distances from one another, the protrusions being engageable with corresponding recesses in the control socket of the cartridge.
[0022] - the locking member comprises a rod extending through an opening in the bottom part of the receiving element and into an opening in the cartridge, the rod having a free end, the free end comprising a radial protrusion which is not rotationally symmetrical about the longitudinal axis, the opening in the cartridge having a shape complementary to the protrusion.
[0023] - the locking member comprises two flexible tabs extending along the longitudinal axis through an opening in the bottom portion of the receiving element and into the opening in the cartridge, said at least two flexible tabs abutting walls of the opening in the bottom portion, the opening in the bottom portion having a shape that is not rotationally symmetrical about the longitudinal axis such that the relative position of the flexible tabs with respect to the opening defines a variable distance between the flexible tabs, and in an open position of the locking element the two flexible tabs are radially closer to each other than when in a closed position of the locking element.
[0024] - the locking member comprises a stud extending along the longitudinal axis through an opening in a bottom portion of the receiving element, the receiving element comprises a plurality of flexible tabs extending along the longitudinal axis into the opening of the cartridge, the plurality of flexible tabs being disposed around and in contact with the stud to define an opening through which the stud extends, and an interface between the locking element and the receiving element is such that rotation between the locking element and the receiving element causes movement of the stud along the longitudinal axis, and movement of the stud along the longitudinal axis results in an increasing distance of the plurality of flexible tabs relative to one another between the open and closed positions.
[0025] The protrusion and the cartridge opening each have an oval shape.
[0026] - the opening in the bottom portion of the receiving element is generally elliptical in shape with a major axis and a minor axis, and in the open position, each of the two flexible tabs is positioned at an end of the major axis, and in the closed position, each of the two flexible tabs is positioned at an end of the minor axis.
[0027] Each of the two flexible tabs comprises a protrusion capable of engaging with a corresponding rim of the cartridge.
[0028] - the plurality of flexible tabs comprises three flexible tabs and the plurality of prongs comprises three prongs.
[0029] the locking member and the transmission element are the same element;
[0030] According to another aspect, there is provided a refillable base for lipstick adapted to be associated with a removable cartridge for lipstick, the base defining a longitudinal axis, the base comprising: - a cartridge receiving element having a sleeve suitable for receiving a lower part of a cartridge therein, the receiving element having a transmission element suitable for engaging with a control socket of the cartridge; a locking element for locking the cartridge in the base, the locking element being movable at least in rotation relative to the receiving element about a longitudinal axis in a first direction towards an open position in which the cartridge is removable from the base along the longitudinal axis, and in a second direction towards a closed position in which the cartridge is integral with the base along the longitudinal axis, the connection between the locking element and the receiving element comprising a closing abutment suitable for driving a control socket of the cartridge when the locking element is in the closed position and the base is rotated in the second direction; Equipped with.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
[0033] The drawings and the following description of most of the components contain elements that are explicit in nature and, as such, serve not only to provide a better understanding of the invention but also, where appropriate, to contribute to its definition.
[0034] Referring to Figure 1, a refillable dispensing device 8, specifically for cosmetic products such as lipstick, is shown according to one embodiment. The dispensing device or lipstick 8 comprises a lipstick receptacle 11 and a separate removable cartridge 14. The receptacle 11 is the outer housing of the dispensing device 8 and comprises a base 12 adapted to receive the cartridge 14 and a cap 16 which cooperates with the base to create an outer protective housing around the cartridge 14. When the cap 16 is coupled to the base 12, for example by a magnetic or mechanical device, the cartridge 14 is not accessible. To make the cartridge 14 accessible, the cap 16 is disengaged from the base 12.
[0035] The cartridge 14 is selectively connectable (i.e., removable) to the base 12 to render the base 12 reusable when so desired (e.g., when the cartridge 14 is empty or when a different color lipstick is desired) by inserting a replacement cartridge. Thus, the base 12 and cap 16 are reusable. A refillable lipstick 8 also allows for the use of a superior quality outer housing (i.e., receptacle 11) and reduces packaging consumption, thereby reducing plastic consumption.
[0036] In the example shown, the receiving part 11 has a circular cross section. However, it is possible for the assembly 10 to have a different cross section, such as a square, oval or hexagonal cross section.
[0037] The coupling between the base 12 and the cartridge 14 can be accomplished in a number of ways. As a non-exhaustive list, the coupling can be performed by magnetic coupling or by elastic interlocking. Preferably, the base 12 and the cartridge 14 have a coupling configured such that only a given brand or model of cartridge 14 can engage with a given base. Thus, a locking system can be installed between the cartridge 14 and the base 12.
[0038] The cartridge 14 and base 12 form an assembly 10 that defines a longitudinal axis L when the cartridge 14 is assembled into the base 12. The longitudinal axis L is also the longitudinal axis of the cartridge 14.
[0039] The cartridge 14, in the embodiment shown in the figures, has a protective sheath 18 that extends over the entire height of the cartridge 14 so as to protect the internal elements of the cartridge, such as the stick of lipstick 20 or the control socket (not shown in FIG. 1). According to one embodiment, the control socket is only accessible through the bottom of the cartridge 14, so that the protective sheath 18 prevents untimely operation of the lipstick dispensing system. The dispensing system is a system known in the field of lipstick, in which the stick of lipstick 20 is placed in a cup and is movable along the longitudinal axis L during rotation of the control socket.
[0040] The base 12 includes a locking system (described in various embodiments below) that prevents decoupling of the base 12 and the cartridge 14. The locking system essentially includes two elements: a receiving element that receives a lower portion of the cartridge 14, and a locking element that is rotatable relative to the receiving element. This locking system can be a second coupling between the base and the cartridge to prevent unintentional separation of the cartridge from the base. Various locking systems are described in relation to Figures 2-17.
[0041] A simple rotational action, similar to what a user would do to activate a lipstick dispensing system, allows the user to secure the refill cartridge 14 to the base 12. Once the cartridge 14 is inserted into the base 12, the user uses two fingers to hold the locking ring 30, which is integral with the receiving element of the base 12, and with the fingers of the opposite hand rotates the outer housing 33 of the base 12, which is integral with the base 12, until an actual lock between the base 12 and the cartridge 14 is obtained. In each of the embodiments described below, locking occurs while the cartridge 14 remains rotationally fixed with the base 12.
[0042] 2-7, a first embodiment of a refillable assembly 100 for dispensing cosmetic products, particularly lipstick, is presented.
[0043] FIG. 2 shows a cross section of a lipstick 108 according to a first embodiment, with a removable lipstick cartridge 114 inside. As explained above with reference to FIG. 1, the lipstick 108 comprises a receiver 111, which is the outer housing of the lipstick 108. The receiver 111 comprises a base 112 suitable for receiving the cartridge 114, and a cap 116 which cooperates with the base 112 to create an outer protective housing around the cartridge 114. When the cap 116 is coupled with the base 112, for example by a magnetic and / or mechanical device 117, the cartridge 114 is not accessible. To make the cartridge 114 accessible, the cap 116 is disengaged from the base 112. In the example shown, the device 117 is mechanical and consists of studs that are evenly distributed around the base 112 and create friction with the cap 116 to hold it in place in the base 112 (better visible in FIG. 3).
[0044] 3 and 4, the dispensing assembly 100 comprises a base 112 of lipstick 108 and a removable cartridge 114. The cartridge 114 has an outer sheath 118 (similar to the protective sheath 18) and a control socket 122 provided inside the sheath 118 in a lower portion 123 of the cartridge 114. The control socket 122 allows for the withdrawal of cosmetic from the cartridge 114 by actuating a lipstick dispensing system 126 (seen in FIG. 2). The dispensing system 126 is a conventional system for withdrawing lipstick sticks in a lipstick tube and will not be described in detail here. The cartridge 114 has an opening 130 in the control socket 122 to allow connection with the base 112. This opening can also serve as a locking system between the base 112 and the cartridge 114, since only a base 112 that is adapted to engage with this opening and secure the cartridge 114 will allow coupling between the base 112 and the cartridge 114.
[0045] The base 112 includes a receiving element 132 for the cartridge 114 that cooperates with the cartridge 114 when the cartridge 114 is disposed in the base 112, and a locking element 148 for securing the cartridge 114 within the base 112. The receiving element 132 is integral (e.g., glued) with the ring 130, and the locking element 148 is integral (e.g., glued) with the outer housing 133 of the base 112. Thus, relative rotation of the ring 130 with respect to the outer housing 133 about the longitudinal axis L creates relative rotation between the receiving element 132 and the locking element 148 to secure or disengage the cartridge 114 from the base 112.
[0046] 5, the receiving element 132 has a sleeve 134 adapted to receive the lower portion 123 of the cartridge 114 within an interior 136. According to the embodiment of Figures 2-7, the receiving element 132 includes a bottom portion 140 that partially closes the lower portion 142 of the sleeve 134. However, the bottom portion 140 may be omitted. The bottom portion 140 includes an opening 172.
[0047] The receiving element 132 has a transfer element 138 that can be engaged with the control socket 122 of the cartridge 114. According to the embodiment of Figs. 2-7, the transfer element 138 is arranged in the bottom portion 140. However, it is possible that the transfer element 138 is arranged elsewhere in the base 112 than in the bottom portion 140, for example in the sleeve 134 or the locking element 148. According to the embodiment of Figs. 2-7, the transfer element 138 comprises a number of protrusions 144 arranged in the bottom portion 140 at equal distances from each other. The protrusions 144 can be engaged with corresponding recesses 146 in the control socket 122 of the cartridge 114. In the embodiment of Figs. 2-7, the assembly 100 comprises two protrusions 144. However, it is possible that the assembly 100 has only one or more than two protrusions. The protrusions can be square, circular, or of other cross-section. The protrusions may alternatively be arranged in the cartridge 114, so that the receiving element 132 has corresponding recesses. The transfer element 138 may be a male-female system other than protrusion-depression.
[0048] Referring again to FIG. 3, the locking element 148 is movable relative to the receiving member 132 at least in a first direction D1 (or opening direction) to an open position and in a rotation about the longitudinal axis L in a second direction D2 (or closing direction) to a closed position. According to the embodiment in the figure, the second direction D2 is opposite to the first direction D1. In the open position, the cartridge 114 is movable relative to the base 112 along the longitudinal axis L. The open position thus allows the cartridge 114 to be changed. In the closed position, when the cartridge 114 is inserted into the base 112, the cartridge 114 is integral with the base 112 along the longitudinal axis L. The closed position allows the cartridge 114 to be fixed in the base 112 and thus allows the lipstick to be used.
[0049] The connection 150 between the locking element 148 and the receiving element 132, which allows for the change from the open position to the closed position and from the closed position to the open position, comprises a closing abutment 152 in the closed position, so that when the locking element 148 is in the closed position and the base 112 is rotated in the closing direction D2 (i.e. the same direction used for moving to the closed position), the receiving element 132 and the locking element 148 rotate together and the control socket 122 of the cartridge 114 is driven by the transmission element 138. The connection 150 between the locking element 148 and the receiving element 132 may also comprise an opening abutment 154 in the open position when the base 112 is rotated in the opening direction D1. The opening abutment 154 serves to indicate to the user that the locking element 148 is in the open position and therefore the cartridge 114 can be engaged / disengaged with the base 112.
[0050] The connection 150 between the locking element 148 and the receiving element 132 may further include a closure catch 156 at (i.e., immediately before) the closure abutment 152 to create resistance when the locking element 148 is in the closed position and the base 112 is rotated in the first direction D1. The connection 150 between the locking element 148 and the receiving element 132 may further include an opening catch 158 at (i.e., immediately before) the opening abutment 154 to create resistance when the locking element 148 is in the open position and the base 112 is rotated in the closing direction D2. The catches 156, 158 may provide resistance to undesired locking and unlocking. The coupling portion 150 may include three or more catches, e.g., multiple catches, some with less resistance, to provide a variety of clicking sensations when a user transitions the coupling portion 150 from the open position to the closed position and from the closed position to the open position.
[0051] More specifically, the connection 150 between the locking element 148 and the receiving element 132 comprises, according to one embodiment, a slot 160 and a finger 162 engaged with the slot 160 and movable therein. In this embodiment of the assembly 100, the base 112 is provided with two slots 160, each provided with a finger 162, the slots being arranged opposite each other. However, for the sake of brevity, a single slot 160 and finger 162 will be described below. It will be understood that the connection 150 may comprise a single slot-finger system or three or more slot-finger systems. The connection 150 may be achieved by means other than a slot-finger system. For example, the connection 150 may be formed by a groove and a pin engaged in the groove.
[0052] The slot 160 may be located on one of the locking element 148 and the receiving element 132, and the finger 162 may be located on the other of the locking element 148 and the receiving element 132. In the embodiment of Figures 2-7, the slot 160 is located on the receiving element 132, and the finger 162 is located on the locking element 148. The slot 160 has a general shape of a circular arc extending at a fixed longitudinal position. The length of the slot 160 defines the amplitude of rotation between the locking element 148 and the receiving element 132. In one embodiment, the slot 160 extends through less than a semicircle (e.g., a quarter of a circle, a third of a circle, or six eighths of a circle) of the periphery of the receiving element 132 or the locking element 148 in which the slot 160 is located. Thus, according to one embodiment, the rotation between the locking element 148 and the receiving element 132 occurs through an angle that is less than or equal to 180 degrees, preferably less than 90 degrees, and even more preferably about 75 degrees, about the longitudinal axis L. The angle may be any angle between 180 degrees and 30 degrees, such as, for example, 40 degrees or 50 degrees.
[0053] 2 to 7, the slot 160 is open on one of its two long sides, the open side being closed by a rim 161 of the locking element 148.
[0054] The closing abutment 152 and the opening abutment 154 are ends of a slot 160. According to one embodiment, the distance between the catch 156 or 158 and the nearest corresponding abutment 152, 154 is approximately the size of a finger 162.
[0055] 6 and 7, locking element 148 includes a locking member 164 that can be engaged in opening 130 of cartridge 114 to lock cartridge 114 to base 112. Locking member 164 is received in opening 172 in bottom portion 140, and protrusions 144 are disposed on bottom portion 140 about locking member 164 and opening 172 at equal distances from one another.
[0056] According to the embodiment shown in Figures 2 to 7, the locking member 164 comprises a bar 166 having a free end 168. The free end 168 comprises a radial projection 170 which is not rotationally symmetric (meaning not circular) with respect to the longitudinal axis L, and the opening 130 of the cartridge 114 has a shape complementary to the projection 170. In the example of Figures 2 to 7, the projection 170 and the opening 130 have an elliptical shape.
[0057] When the asymmetrical shape is aligned (i.e., the open position), the locking member 164 can be inserted into the opening 130, and when the asymmetrical shape is not aligned (i.e., the closed position, seen in FIG. 7), the locking member 164 cannot be inserted into or can be disengaged from the opening 130. The complementarity of the shape of the opening 130 and the shape of the protrusion 170 allows for a locking system between the cartridge 114 and the base 112, such that only a cartridge 114 that is compatible with the base 112 can be inserted.
[0058] The shape of the projection 170 and the corresponding shape of the opening 130 allow for locking depending on the angle of rotation that defines the open and closed positions. The angle and shape are selected such that in the open position the locking member 164 is in a different position than in the closed position. In the example of Figures 2-7, the shape is an oval and the angle of rotation is strictly less than 180 degrees such that the same position of the shape is not reached in the open and closed positions.
[0059] According to one embodiment, the transfer element 138 and the locking member 164 are one and the same element. To achieve this, the locking member 164 may have a portion that engages, for example, in a slot in the control socket 122 so that when the locking element 148 is rotated, the control socket 122 is also rotated. According to this embodiment, the transfer element 138 is located in the locking element 148 and not in the receiving element 132.
[0060] According to one embodiment, receiving element 132 and locking element 148 are each made from a single molding of plastic and the two are assembled by friction, however, receiving element 132 and locking element 148 can be made from several pieces of plastic or other materials.
[0061] 8-12, a second embodiment of a refillable assembly 200, specifically for dispensing cosmetic products such as lipstick, is presented. Assembly 200 is similar to assembly 100, except for the connection between the receiving element and the locking element, the locking member, the opening in the bottom portion of the receiving element, and the opening in the control socket of the cartridge. Therefore, for the sake of brevity, common elements between assemblies 100 and 200 will not be described in detail again here and will have the same reference numbers, except in the 200 series.
[0062] The connection 250 between the receiving element 232 and the locking element 248 is made by a variation of the above-mentioned slot-finger system. However, it is also conceivable that the connection 250 is provided by a slot-finger system. The connection 250 is formed from two elements nested together. A first element 260 is arranged on the receiving element 232 (at the face 241 of the bottom part 240 opposite to the face receiving the cartridge 214) and a second element (not shown) is arranged on the locking element 248 facing the face 241 of the bottom part 240. According to the embodiment shown in the figures, the first element 260 is generally L-shaped in cross section and extends in the form of a circular arc. The second element engages with the first element 260, so that the receiving element 232 and the locking element 248 can slide in rotation relative to each other, guided by the circular arc formed by the first element 260.
[0063] Coupling 250 is shown here formed from two first element-second element assemblies arranged opposite one another, however, it is possible for coupling 250 to have only one, or more than two, first element-second element assemblies.
[0064] The coupling 250 further comprises a closing abutment 252. The coupling may further comprise an opening abutment similar to those previously described.
[0065] Instead of the bar 166 and the protrusion 170, the locking member 264 of the base 212 of the assembly 200 comprises two flexible tabs 266, each having a protrusion 270 at a free end 275. The tabs 266 are adapted to extend along the longitudinal axis L into an opening 230 of the cartridge 214 so that the protrusions 270 can engage with a corresponding rim 215 of the cartridge 214 to secure the cartridge 214 to the base 212. The rim 215 is internal to the cartridge 214. The rim 215 is accessible from an opening 230 in the control socket 222 of the cartridge 214. The rim 215 may be a clear rim or may form part of a slot. The rim 215 may be a single rim or slot, or the control socket 222 may have as many rims or slots as there are flexible tabs 266. The perimeter 215 may be sized and shaped to correspond to the protrusions 270 of each flexible tab 266 .
[0066] The flexible tab 266 further extends through an opening 272 in the bottom portion 240 of the receiving element 232. The locking member 264 may have more than two flexible tabs, such as three. In the illustrated embodiment, the opening 230 is circular. However, it is contemplated that the opening 230 may have a non-circular shape, such as an oval or square shape.
[0067] The flexible tabs 266 abut at their lower ends 267 against the walls 271 of the openings 272 in the bottom portion 240 of the receiving element 232. The openings 272 have a shape that is not rotationally symmetrical about the longitudinal axis L such that the relative positions of the flexible tabs 266 with respect to the openings 272 define a variable distance G between the flexible tabs 266. In the open position of the locking element 248, the flexible tabs 266 are radially closer to each other than in the closed position of the locking element 248. In the open position of the locking element 248, the flexible tabs 266 are at a distance G1, and in the closed position of the locking element 248, the flexible tabs 266 are at a distance G2 that is greater than the distance G1. The distance G2 is greater than the size of the openings 230 in the control socket 222 to ensure coupling between the cartridge 214 and the base 212. The distance G 1 is less than the size of the opening 230 in the control socket 222 so that the cartridge 214 can be placed in and removed from the base 212 .
[0068] In the embodiment of FIGS. 8-12, the opening 272 in the bottom portion 240 of the receiving element 232 is generally oval in shape with a major axis A1 and a minor axis A2 with straight sides 273. In the open position, each of the flexible tabs 266 is positioned at an end E1 of the major axis A1, and in the closed position, each of the flexible tabs 266 is positioned at an end E2 of the minor axis A2. Thus, the flexible tabs 266 are at a distance G1 when abutting the minor side A1, and the flexible tabs 266 are at a distance G2 from each other when abutting the major side A2. By moving the flexible tabs from abutting the minor side A1 to abutting the major side A2 and vice versa, the distance G can be changed so that the projections 270 of the flexible tabs 266 either engage or do not engage the rim 215 inside the control socket 222 to secure the cartridge 214 to the base 212.
[0069] Because the flexible tabs 266 are fixedly connected to the locking element 248 and the opening 272 is part of the receiving element 232, rotation of the receiving element 232 relative to the locking element 248 moves the abutment of the flexible tabs 266 between the smaller side A1 and the larger side A2, thereby allowing the flexible tabs 266 to be moved closer together or farther apart into or out of engagement with the inner periphery 215 of the cartridge 214 using movements similar to those described above.
[0070] 8-12, the transfer element 238 (i.e., the protrusion 244) for driving the rotation of the control socket 222 of the cartridge 214 is aligned with the longitudinal axis A1 and located in the bottom portion 240. However, the transfer element 238 may be located elsewhere in the receiving element 232.
[0071] According to one embodiment, the transfer element 238 and the flexible tab 266 are one and the same element. By engaging a corresponding recess in the control socket 222, the flexible tab 266 can act as the transfer element 238 such that when the locking element 248 is rotated, the control socket 222 is also rotated. According to this embodiment, the transfer element 238 is located on the locking element 248 and not on the receiving element 232.
[0072] 13-17, a third embodiment of a refillable assembly 300, specifically for dispensing cosmetic products such as lipstick, is presented. Assembly 300 is similar to assembly 100, except for the locking member, the opening in the bottom portion of the receiving member, and the opening in the control socket of the cartridge. Therefore, for the sake of brevity, common elements between assemblies 100 and 300 will not be described in detail again here and will have the same reference numbers, except in the 300 series.
[0073] The dispensing assembly 300 comprises a base 312 and a cartridge 314 selectively connectable to the base. The cartridge 314 has an outer sheath 318 (similar to the protective sheath 18) and a control socket 322 disposed within the sheath 318 at a lower portion 323 of the cartridge 314. The control socket 322 activates a lipstick dispensing system 326 to permit withdrawal of cosmetic from the cartridge 314. The cartridge 314 has an opening 330 in the control socket 322 to permit connection to the base 312.
[0074] The base 312 comprises a receiving element 332 for the cartridge 314. The receiving element 332 has a sleeve 334 suitable for receiving the lower part 323 of the cartridge 314 in its interior 336. According to the embodiment of Figs. 13-17, the receiving element 332 comprises a bottom part 340 partially closing the lower part 342 of the sleeve 334. However, the bottom part 340 may be omitted. The receiving element 332 comprises a transfer element 338 that can be engaged with the control socket 322 of the cartridge 314. According to the embodiment of Figs. 13-17, the transfer element 338 is arranged in the bottom part 340. However, it is possible that the transfer element 338 is arranged somewhere in the base 312 and not in the bottom part 340. According to the embodiment of Figs. 13-17, the transfer element 338 comprises a number of protrusions 344 arranged in the bottom part 340 at equal distances from each other. The protrusions 344 are engageable with corresponding recesses (not shown) of the control socket 322 of the cartridge 314. In the example of Figs. 13-17, the assembly 300 includes three protrusions 344. However, it is possible for the assembly 300 to have only one, two, or four or more protrusions. The protrusions 344 may be square, circular, or of other cross-section. The protrusions 344 may alternatively be disposed on the cartridge 314 so that the receiving element 332 has a corresponding recess. The transfer element 338 may be a different male-female system with protrusion-recess.
[0075] The base 312 further comprises a locking element 348 which cooperates with the cartridge 314 when the cartridge 314 is placed in the base 312 to fix the cartridge 314 in the base 312. The locking element 348 is movable relative to the receiving element 332 at least in a rotation about the longitudinal axis L in a first direction D1 towards the open position and in a second direction D2 towards the closed position. According to the embodiment in the figure, the second direction D2 is in a direction opposite to the first direction D1. In the open position, the cartridge 314 is movable relative to the base 312 along the longitudinal axis L. In the closed position, when the cartridge 314 is inserted into the base 312, the cartridge 314 is integral with the base 312 along the longitudinal axis L.
[0076] The connection 350 between the locking element 348 and the receiving element 332 comprises a closing abutment 352 in the closed position, so that when the locking element 348 is in the closed position and the base 312 is rotated in the second direction D2 (meaning the same direction used to change to the closed position), the receiving element 332 and the locking element 348 rotate together and the control socket 322 of the cartridge 314 is driven by the transmission element 338. The connection 350 between the locking element 348 and the receiving element 332 may comprise an opening abutment 354 in the open position when the base 312 is rotated in the opening direction D1. The opening abutment makes it possible to indicate to the user that the locking element 348 is in the open position. The connection 350 between the locking element 348 and the receiving element 332 may further include a closure catch 356 at (i.e., immediately before) the closure abutment 352 to create resistance when the locking element 348 is in the closed position and the base 312 is rotated in the open direction D1. The connection 350 between the locking element 348 and the receiving element 332 may further include an opening catch 358 at (i.e., immediately before) the opening abutment 354 to create resistance when the locking element 348 is in the open position and the base 312 is rotated in the second direction D2. The catches 356, 358 may provide resistance to undesired locking and unlocking. The coupling portion 350 may include three or more catches, e.g., multiple catches, some with less resistance, to provide a variety of clicking sensations when a user moves from the open position to the closed position and from the closed position to the open position.
[0077] More specifically, the connection 350 between the locking element 348 and the receiving element 332 comprises a slot 360 and a finger 362 engaged with the slot 360 and movable within the slot 360. In this embodiment of the assembly 300, the base 312 is provided with two slots 360, each integral with a finger 362, the slots being arranged opposite each other. For the sake of brevity, a single slot 360 and finger 362 are described below. It is understood that the connection 350 may comprise a single slot-finger system or three or more slot-finger systems. The connection 350 may be made by means other than a slot-finger system. For example, the connection 350 may be formed by a groove and a pin engaged in the groove, or by a system of grooves or snap-fit grooves (elastic interlocking) as presented above.
[0078] 14 and 15, the slot 360 may be located on one of the locking element 348 and the receiving element 332, and the finger 362 may be located on the other of the locking element 348 and the receiving element 332. In the embodiment of FIGS. 13-17, the slot 360 is in the receiving element 332, and the finger 362 is in the locking element 348. The slot 360 has a general shape of a circular arc that extends at a variable longitudinal position such that the locking element 348 follows a spiral motion when the locking element 348 is moved relative to the receiving element 332 in the first direction D1 or the second direction D2. The spiral motion may allow a user to intuitively know in which position (open or closed) the locking element 348 is located. For example, when the spiral motion is performed in the opening direction D1 and the spiral motion attempts to move the receiving element 332 away from the locking element 348 (arrow F1 in FIG. 15 ), there is an intuitive sense that the rotation is toward a position that releases the cartridge 314 from the base 312. Similarly, when the spiral motion is performed in the closing direction D2 and the spiral motion attempts to move the receiving element 332 closer to the locking element 348 (arrow F2 in FIG. 14 ), there is an intuitive sense that the rotation is toward a position that secures the cartridge 314 within the base 312.
[0079] The length of the slot 360 defines the amplitude of rotation between the locking element 348 and the receiving element 332. According to one embodiment, the slot 360 extends over a semicircle or less (e.g., a quarter of a circle or a third of a circle) of the periphery of the receiving element 332 or the locking element 348 in which the slot 360 is located. Thus, according to one embodiment, the rotation between the locking element 348 and the receiving element 332 is performed over an angle of less than 180 degrees, preferably less than 90 degrees, and even more preferably about 75 degrees, about the longitudinal axis L. The angle may be any angle between 180 degrees and 30 degrees, for example 40 degrees or 50 degrees.
[0080] The slot 360 is closed along its two long sides.
[0081] The closing abutment 352 and the opening abutment 354 are ends of a slot 360. According to one embodiment, the distance between the catch 356 or 358 and the corresponding nearest abutment 352, 354 is substantially the size of a finger 362.
[0082] 16 and 17, the locking element 348 comprises a locking member 364 that assists in engaging a plurality of flexible tabs of the receiving element 332 in the opening 330 of the cartridge 314 to lock the cartridge 314 to the base 312. According to one embodiment, the locking member 364 comprises a stud 366 that extends along the longitudinal axis L through an opening 372 in the bottom portion 340 of the receiving element 332.
[0083] A plurality of flexible tabs 373 are disposed about and in contact with the stud 366 to define an opening 372 through which the stud 366 extends. The connection 350 between the locking element 348 and the receiving element 332 is such that rotation between the locking element 348 and the receiving element 332 causes movement of the stud 366 (following a helical motion) along the longitudinal axis L. Movement of the stud 366 along the longitudinal axis L affects the distance of the plurality of flexible tabs 373 relative to one another between the open and closed positions (the advancing stud 366 tends to push the tabs 373 outward and vice versa).
[0084] The flexible tabs 373 include protrusions 377 at their free ends that can engage with a rim 315 of the cartridge 314 that is accessible through the opening 330 in the control socket when the cartridge 314 is placed in the receiving element 332. The act of engaging the protrusions 377 with the rim 315 secures the cartridge 314 to the base 312. The rim 315 can be a clear rim or can be part of a slot. The rim 315 can be a single rim or slot, or the control socket 322 can have as many rims or slots as there are flexible tabs 373.
[0085] According to one embodiment, each of the receiving element 332 and the locking element 348 are made from a single molding of plastic and the two are assembled by friction, however, it is possible for the receiving element 332 and the locking element 348 to be made from several pieces of plastic or other material.
[0086] In all of the above embodiments, a lipstick dispensing assembly is described, but it can be applied to any type of cosmetic product, whether it is a liquid (e.g., perfume), a paste (e.g., eyeliner), or a solid (e.g., blush stick). [Explanation of symbols]
