AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing IoT device authentication systems face challenges in securely managing authentication information without increasing administrative burden and cost, particularly in large-scale IoT systems, where unauthorized access and eavesdropping pose significant security risks.

Method used

A system involving a key distribution server, derived key issuing units, and tamper-resistant IC chips that generate unique IDs and derived keys for each IoT device, allowing secure authentication without storing authentication information centrally, thus reducing administrative burden and costs.

Benefits of technology

The system enables secure authentication of IoT devices with reduced administrative workload and storage costs, while minimizing risks of unauthorized access and eavesdropping.

Abstract

To achieve secure authentication without increasing the burden and cost of an administrator.SOLUTION: In an IoT device authentication system, when an IoT device is manufactured, a derived key issuer generates a unique derived key of the IoT device on the basis of the unique ID and the master key of the IoT device, and the unique ID of the IoT device and the unique derived key of the IoT device are written to the IoT device, and when the IoT device is authenticated, the IoT device transmits the unique ID of the IoT device to an IoT device management server, and the IoT device management server transmits the unique ID of the IoT device to a key distribution server, and the key distribution server generates the unique derived key of the IoT device on the basis of the master key stored in the key distribution server and the unique ID of the IoT device, and transmits the unique derived key of the IoT device to the IoT device management server. The IoT device management server authenticates the IoT device by using the unique derived key of the IoT device transmitted from the key distribution server.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
