Abstract

To provide a liquid crystal alignment agent with which it is possible to obtain a liquid crystal element that has good liquid crystal orientation and a high voltage holding rate and which excels in reliability.SOLUTION: A polymer [P] having in the main chain a partial structure (A) that is at least one of those selected from the group consisting of partial structures expressed by formula (1-1) and partial structures expressed by formula (1-2), is included in a liquid crystal alignment agent. In the formulas, B1 represents a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic ring. R1 represents a bivalent organic group that binds in -C(R10)(R11)-, -O-, -S-, -CO-, -COO-, -NR4-, -CO-NR4-, -NR4-CO-O- or -NR4-CO-NR5- to a nitrogen atom that constitutes the condensed ring in formula (1-1) or a carbon atom that constitutes the condensed ring in formula (1-2). R2 represents a monovalent organic group. R3 represents a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a C1-3 alkyl group, or C1-3 alkoxyl group.SELECTED DRAWING: None
