A method for realizing a handoff function of a content sharing platform is provided. The method maintains a session history for a session conducted at a first client device, the session history being identified by a visit ID and including a set of recently viewed content items on a content sharing platform. The method further includes determining that a user associated with the session is active on a second client device, sending a session continuation notification to the second client device associated with the visit ID and a navigation endpoint for the session, receiving a request from the second client device for a view page UI for a content item corresponding to the navigation endpoint for the session, and sending instructions to the second client device to load the view page UI and to request additional components of the view page UI using the visit ID.
