Abstract
The present invention relates to thermal or thermo-mechanical treatment of hygroscopic materials to adjust material properties. The present invention relates to an apparatus for modifying hygroscopic materials. The modification apparatus comprises a modification unit (202) and a fluid container (204) coupled to at least one fluid opening (203) via a control valve (205). The modification apparatus is configured to heat the hygroscopic material in the modification unit (202) to extract water from the hygroscopic material and to direct the fluid from the fluid container through the at least one fluid opening (203) into the modification unit (202) in response to opening of the control valve (205). The modification apparatus further comprises a treatment agent (207) that is added to the fluid, such that the treatment agent is absorbed into the hygroscopic material and modifies it. The treatment agent (207) comprises at least one of the following components: preservatives, dyes, pigments, fragrances, deodorants, insecticides, impregnation components, or flame retardants.
