Abstract

[0003] The present disclosure relates to data communications. Particular embodiments provide a user equipment (UE) (110) for accessing a radio access network (RAN) (100), the user equipment (UE) comprising at least a central node (210) and a distributed node (220), the central node controlling the distributed node, the user equipment (UE) comprising at least one processor (12) and at least one memory (13) storing instructions (14), which, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the user equipment (UE) to at least establish a connection to the radio access network, receive from the central node a UE context modification request, the UE context modification request including a request to change at least a portion of a lower layer configuration and an identifier associated with the request, implement the requested change of the lower layer configuration (502), send a confirmation that the requested change has been implemented toward the central node (504), and send the identifier toward the distributed node (505).
