Benefits of technology

Abstract

To provide a graphite-containing refractory that exhibits high durability by suppressing propagation of cracks caused by thermal stress even when used for an inner lining refractory for converter furnaces, and also that exhibits high durability, especially when used for a tuyere brick for a converter furnace having a very large internal temperature gradient, wherein the graphite-containing refractory can be manufactured at high manufacturing yields without causing defects such as cracks during production.SOLUTION: The present invention relates to a graphite-containing refractory in which a carbon fiber bundle B is arranged inside a refractory body A, wherein the carbon fiber bundle B is made of a carbon fiber bundle to which no sizing agent is attached at least partially or wholly on an outer surface thereof, preferably partially or wholly on the outer surface thereof and partially or wholly inside the bundle. The non-adherence of the sizing agent partially or wholly on the outer surface of the carbon fiber bundle B helps to: suppress formation of defects such as cracks during production; and increase adhesion between the carbon fiber bundle B and the refractory body A, resulting in a high fracture energy.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
