Abstract
To provide a technique for preferably transmitting or receiving an advanced digital broadcast service.SOLUTION: A broadcast receiver is for receiving a broadcast wave transmitting a 4K broadcast service and a 2K broadcast service, the broadcast wave includes a first layer for accommodating the 4K broadcast service and a second layer for accommodating the 2K broadcast service, the receiver includes a first reception demodulation part for demodulating the 2K broadcast service and a second reception demodulation part for demodulating the 4K broadcast service. Identification processing in a modulation system in the first reception demodulation part and identification processing in a demodulation system in the second reception demodulation part are configured to have a state to identify that the modulation system of the signal transmitted on the first layer is synchronous modulation at the first reception demodulation part and the modulation system of the signal transmitted on the first layer is differential modulation at the second reception demodulation part, even if an identification bit indicating the modulation system of the signal transmitted on the first layer and an identification bit indicating the modulation system of the signal transmitted on the second layer indicate the same value in the broadcast wave.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5L
