AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Current display devices face challenges in achieving high definition, high aperture ratio, reliability, and low power consumption, particularly due to leakage current issues between subpixels which degrade brightness, contrast, and display quality.

Method used

The display device incorporates a configuration with a first and second light-emitting device, colored layers, and insulating layers, where the EL layers are formed in a self-aligned manner using a vapor deposition method, with a recessed structure to separate current leak paths and reduce the distance between adjacent light-emitting devices, allowing for high aperture ratio and efficient power usage.

Benefits of technology

This configuration enhances display quality by increasing brightness and contrast, improving power efficiency, and extending the lifespan of the display device, while achieving a high aperture ratio that significantly improves reliability and definition.

Abstract

Provided is a display device having high display quality. The present invention has a first light-emitting device, a second light-emitting device, a first colored layer, a second colored layer, and a first insulation layer, the first light-emitting device having a first pixel electrode on the first insulation layer, a first EL layer on the first pixel electrode, and a common electrode on the first EL layer, the second light-emitting device having a second pixel electrode on the first insulation layer, a second EL layer on the second pixel electrode, and a common electrode on the second EL layer, the first colored layer being disposed overlapping the first light-emitting device, the second colored layer being disposed overlapping the second light-emitting device, the second colored layer transmitting light in a different wavelength region than the first colored layer, the first insulation layer having a recess between the first pixel electrode and the second pixel electrode, a third EL layer being disposed in the recess in the first insulation layer, the first EL layer, the second EL layer, and the third EL layer having the same material, and the sum of the film thickness of the first pixel electrode and the depth of the recess being equal to or greater than the film thickness of the third EL layer.
