Description

Wireless area detection device, wireless area detection method, control circuit, and storage medium

[0001] The present disclosure relates to a wireless area detection device, a wireless area detection method, a control circuit, and a storage medium for detecting a wireless area in which a desired wireless communication system can be used.

[0002] There are various types of wireless communication systems. There are also wireless communication systems that use the same type but are operated by different operators. That is, there are multiple types of wireless communication systems that differ in at least one of the type and the operator. On the other hand, there are communication terminals that can connect to multiple different communication networks as communication terminals connecting to the communication network of a wireless communication system. A communication terminal that can connect to multiple different communication networks communicates using a communication method and settings corresponding to the communication network to which it is connected. Furthermore, when a communication terminal moves during communication, it switches its communication device (e.g., a base station) to which it is connected by, for example, performing a handover as necessary. A communication terminal that can connect to multiple different communication networks may switch its connection destination to a communication network different from the communication network to which it was previously connected as it moves (see, for example, Patent Document 1).

[0003] Patent Document 1 discloses a communication system that can realize seamless connection switching when a communication terminal moves between a mobile communication network using a fourth-generation (4G) communication method and a mobile communication network using a fifth-generation (5G) communication method.

[0004] International Publication No. 2019 / 077801

[0005] Fifth-generation communication systems include public 5G systems in which communication networks are built over a wide area by telecommunications carriers and the like, with vast available wireless areas, and local 5G systems in which communication networks are built within limited areas such as factories or buildings, with available wireless areas being spotty. In areas where the wireless areas of the local 5G systems and the public 5G systems overlap, there has been a problem in that, for example, even if a communication terminal is configured to preferentially use the local 5G system, it is difficult to smoothly switch the connection destination of a communication terminal connected to the public 5G system to the local 5G system.

[0006] In other words, a typical communication terminal does not start the process of switching the connection destination until the quality of the wireless communication line deteriorates to a certain level, so even if the communication terminal moves while connected to the public 5G system and enters an area where the wireless area of the public 5G system and the wireless area of the local 5G system overlap, it will maintain the connection to the public 5G system until the quality of the wireless communication line of the public 5G system deteriorates. This has caused a problem of delays in switching the connection to the local 5G system.

[0007] The present disclosure has been made in consideration of the above, and aims to provide a wireless area detection device that can realize a communication terminal that can smoothly switch its connection destination without delay when moving from outside the wireless area of a wireless communication system that is used preferentially to inside the wireless area.

[0008] In order to solve the above-mentioned problems and achieve the objectives, the present disclosure provides a wireless area detection device that detects the wireless area to which a communication terminal is connected, and is characterized by comprising an area detection unit that determines whether the communication terminal is located in the connection target area based on information regarding a connection target area, which is the wireless area of a wireless communication system that the communication terminal preferentially uses among multiple wireless communication systems available to the communication terminal, and external information, which is information regarding the area in which the communication terminal is located, and a communication control unit that controls switching of the communication terminal's connection destination based on the result of the determination by the area detection unit.

[0009] The wireless area detection device according to the present disclosure has the effect of realizing a communication terminal that can smoothly switch its connection destination without delay when moving from outside the wireless area of a wireless communication system that is used preferentially to inside the wireless area.

[0010] FIG. 1 is a diagram showing an example of the configuration of a communication system to which a wireless area detection device according to a first embodiment is applied. FIG. 2 is a diagram showing an example of the hardware configuration of a wireless area detection device according to a first embodiment. FIG. 3 is a diagram showing an example of the functional block configuration of a wireless area detection device according to a first embodiment.

[0011] Hereinafter, a wireless area detection device, a wireless area detection method, a control circuit, and a storage medium according to embodiments of the present disclosure will be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.

[0012] First Embodiment Fig. 1 is a diagram showing an example of the configuration of a communication system 100 to which a wireless area detection device 20 according to a first embodiment is applied.

[0013] The communication system 100 includes a local 5G system 50 in which a communication network is constructed in a spot manner and services are provided in a limited area, and a public 5G system 60 in which a communication network is constructed over a wide area and services are provided in an area wider than that of the local 5G system 50. The wireless area in which the communication network of the local 5G system 50 is constructed and in which the local 5G system 50 can be used (hereinafter, may be referred to as a local area) is assumed to exist within the wireless area in which the communication network of the public 5G system 60 is constructed and in which the public 5G system 60 can be used (hereinafter, may be referred to as a public area).

[0014] The local 5G system 50 includes a base station 51 and a core network 52, which is referred to as a 5G core in Fig. 1. The public 5G system 60 includes a base station 61. Note that the core network of the public 5G system 60 is omitted from Fig. 1. Also, in Fig. 1, the number of base stations 51 in the local 5G system 50 and the number of base stations 61 in the public 5G system 60 are each one, but there may be a plurality of base stations 51 and 61.

[0015] The wireless area detection device 20 according to this embodiment, together with the external information acquisition device 40, constitutes a communication terminal 10. The wireless area detection device 20 also includes a communication module 30 for performing wireless communication, and selects a local area or a public area as the wireless area to which the communication module 30 connects.

[0016] Here, it is assumed that the communication terminal 10 is configured to preferentially use the local 5G system 50 in a location where the local area and the public area overlap and both the local 5G system 50 and the public 5G system 60 are available. Therefore, the wireless area detection device 20 performs wireless area detection so as to realize preferential use of the local 5G system 50. Specifically, the wireless area detection device 20 searches for a local area while the communication module 30 is communicating in a public area, and, if the local area is detected, controls the communication module 30 to switch to communication in the local area, i.e., to communication with the local 5G system 50. The communication module 30 is equipped with a dual SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) so as to be able to connect to both the communication network of the local 5G system 50 and the communication network of the public 5G system 60.

[0017] The external information acquisition device 40 acquires external information used in the local area search process by the wireless area detection device 20. Details of the external information will be explained together with the explanation of the operation of the wireless area detection device 20.

[0018] Next, a description will be given of a hardware configuration of the wireless area detection device 20. Fig. 2 is a diagram illustrating an example of a hardware configuration of the wireless area detection device 20 according to the first embodiment.

[0019] As shown in FIG. 2 , the wireless area detection device 20 according to the first embodiment includes an external information acquisition interface 91, a memory 92, a processor 93, a power supply circuit 94, and the communication module 30 shown in FIG. 1 . The external information acquisition interface 91 is an electronic circuit for acquiring external information from the external information acquisition device 40. The memory 92 is, for example, a non-volatile or volatile semiconductor memory such as a random access memory (RAM), a read-only memory (ROM), a flash memory, an erasable programmable read-only memory (EPROM), or an electrically programmable programmable read-only memory (EEPROM). The processor 93 is, for example, a central processing unit (CPU), a processing unit, an arithmetic unit, a microprocessor, a microcomputer, or a digital signal processor (DSP). The power supply circuit 94 is an electronic circuit that generates power for the processor 93. Note that the power supply circuit 94 may generate power for the communication module 30 in addition to power for the processor 93.

[0020] The wireless area search function of the wireless area detection device 20 is realized by the processor 93 executing a program describing the wireless area search process. This program is stored in the memory 92. That is, the processor 93 reads out the program describing the wireless area search process from the memory 92 and executes it, thereby realizing the wireless area search function of the wireless area detection device 20. The program describing the wireless area search process stored in the memory 92 may be provided to the user of the wireless area detection device 20 in a form written on a storage medium such as a CD (Compact Disc)-ROM or a DVD (Digital Versatile Disc)-ROM, or it may be provided via a network.

[0021] FIG. 3 is a diagram illustrating an example of a functional block configuration of the wireless area detecting device 20 according to the first embodiment.

[0022] The wireless area detection device 20 includes an area detection unit 21 that detects a desired wireless area, and a communication control unit 27 that controls switching of the connection destination of the communication module 30 based on the detection result by the area detection unit 21 .

[0023] The area detection unit 21 includes an information acquisition unit 22 , a data storage unit 23 , an information analysis unit 24 , a connection destination selection unit 25 , and a data retention unit 26 .

[0024] The information acquisition unit 22 acquires external information from the external information acquisition device 40. The data storage unit 23 receives the external information acquired by the information acquisition unit 22 and stores it in the data storage unit 26 as external information 262. The information analysis unit 24 analyzes the external information acquired by the information acquisition unit 22 to perform wireless area detection. The information analysis unit 24 may receive the external information to be analyzed from the data storage unit 23 or may acquire it from the data storage unit 26. When acquiring external information to be analyzed from the data storage unit 26, the information analysis unit 24 acquires the latest external information 262, i.e., the external information last stored as the external information 262. The connection destination selection unit 25 determines the connection destination of wireless communication by the communication module 30 based on the wireless area detection result obtained by the information analysis unit 24 analyzing the external information. The data storage unit 26 stores connection target area information 261 and external information 262 used to detect a local area, which is a wireless area in which the local 5G system 50 is available. The connection target area information 261 is information about the local area. The external information 262 is information relating to the area in which the communication terminal 10 is located.

[0025] The information acquisition unit 22, data storage unit 23, information analysis unit 24, connection destination selection unit 25, and communication control unit 27 of the wireless area detection device 20 are realized by the external information acquisition interface 91, the programs stored in the memory 92, and the processor 93 shown in FIG. 2. The data holding unit 26 is realized by the memory 92.

[0026] Next, the operation of the wireless area detection device 20 performing wireless area detection and switching the connection destination of the communication module 30 will be described with reference to Figures 4 to 6. In this embodiment, as an example, a camera mounted on the communication terminal 10 is used as the external information acquisition device 40, and the external information used in the local area search process is video information captured by the camera. Also, a case where the connection destination is switched from the public 5G system 60 to the local 5G system 50 will be described. The camera, which is the external information acquisition device 40, captures images of the surroundings of the communication terminal 10 and acquires external information as information related to the area in which the communication terminal 10 is located.

[0027] FIG. 4 is a flowchart showing an example of the operation of the area detection unit 21 included in the wireless area detection device 20 according to the first embodiment.

[0028] First, before the area detection unit 21 actually starts operation, connection target area information 261 required for the area detection operation is registered in the data storage unit 26 (step S11). Specifically, in step S11, video information captured by a camera of the wireless area of the local 5G system 50 is acquired from outside and registered in the data storage unit 26 as connection target area information 261. The video information may be acquired by the information acquisition unit 22 of the area detection unit 21 or by another processing unit not shown in FIG. 3 . For example, if the communication network of the local 5G system 50 is established in a factory, video captured by a camera of the entrance to the factory is registered in the data storage unit 26 as connection target area information 261. Furthermore, if the communication network of the local 5G system 50 is established in a railway station and the communication terminal 10 equipped with the wireless area detection device 20 is mounted on a railway vehicle, video captured by a camera from a railway vehicle entering the station is registered in the data storage unit 26 as connection target area information 261. In addition to video information, the connection target area information 261 may also include information on the frequency band used in the wireless area of the local 5G system 50, which is the connection target area, information on the application used for communication in the wireless area of the local 5G system 50, information on the SIM used by the communication module 30 for communication in the wireless area of the local 5G system 50, etc.

[0029] When step S11 is executed and registration of the connection target area information is completed, the wireless area detection operation consisting of the processes shown in steps S12 to S15 starts.

[0030] That is, the information acquisition unit 22 acquires external information from the external information acquisition device 40 (step S12). The external information acquired by the information acquisition unit 22 is passed to the data storage unit 23 and stored in the data holding unit 26 as external information 262.

[0031] Next, the information analysis unit 24 analyzes the external information 262 (step S13) and performs a detection process for the connection target area, specifically, a process for determining whether or not the wireless area detection device 20 is present in the connection target area (step S14). Specifically, the information analysis unit 24 compares the external information 262 acquired in step S12 with the connection target area information 261. If the area identified by the external information 262 and the wireless area identified by the connection target area information 261 are the same, the information analysis unit 24 determines that the wireless area detection device 20 is present in the connection target area. In other words, the information analysis unit 24 determines that the communication terminal 10 is present in the connection target area and that the local 5G system 50 is available for use. If the information analysis unit 24 determines that the wireless area detection device 20 is not present in the connection target area (step S14: No), the information analysis unit 24 returns to step S12 and repeats the processes of steps S12 to S14. The process of step S12 in which the information acquisition unit 22 acquires the external information and the data storage unit 23 stores it as the external information 262 in the data holding unit 26 may be executed repeatedly without waiting for the determination in step S14 to be completed. That is, the information acquisition unit 22 may continuously acquire the external information acquired by the external information acquisition device 40 regardless of the determination result in step S14.

[0032] If the information analysis unit 24 determines that the wireless area detection device 20 is present in the target connection area (step S14: Yes), the connection destination selection unit 25 selects the target connection area as the connection destination (step S15), and the operation of the area detection unit 21 ends. In step S15, the connection destination selection unit 25 selects the local area as the connection destination. The connection destination selection unit 25 also notifies the communication control unit 27 that it has detected the target connection area, i.e., that it has selected the local area, which is the target connection area, as the connection destination.

[0033] When the communication control unit 27 receives a notification that the connection target area has been detected, the communication control unit 27 controls the operation of the communication module 30 in accordance with the notification content. Fig. 5 is a flowchart showing an example of the operation of the communication control unit 27 constituting the wireless area detection device 20 according to the first embodiment.

[0034] 5, the communication control unit 27 checks whether or not a connection target area has been detected by the area detection unit 21 (step S21). If a connection target area has not been detected (step S21: No), the communication control unit 27 repeats step S21 of checking whether or not a connection target area has been detected.

[0035] When the target connection area is detected (step S21: Yes), the communication control unit 27 issues a connection destination switching instruction to the communication module 30 (step S22). In issuing the connection destination switching instruction to the communication module 30, the communication control unit 27 may instruct the communication module 30 to switch to a frequency used for communication in the target connection area, or may instruct the communication module 30 to switch the application to be used, as necessary.

[0036] FIG. 6 is a diagram illustrating an example of a sequence in which the wireless area detecting device 20 according to the first embodiment performs wireless area detection and switches the connection destination of the communication module 30. In FIG.

[0037] 6, the wireless area detection device 20 transmits a connection target area information acquisition request to the external information acquisition device 40 (step S31) and acquires the connection target area information (step S32). The wireless area detection device 20 stores the acquired connection target area information (step S33). That is, the wireless area detection device 20 registers the acquired connection target area information in the data storage unit 26 of the area detection unit 21. The sequence of steps S31 to S33 above corresponds to the processing of step S11 shown in FIG.

[0038] After storing the connection target area information in step S33, the wireless area detection device 20 transmits an external information acquisition request to the external information acquisition device 40 (step S34) and acquires the external information (step S35). The sequence of steps S34 to S35 corresponds to the processing of step S12 shown in FIG.

[0039] After acquiring the external information in step S35, the wireless area detection device 20 analyzes the acquired external information (step S36) and selects a connection destination based on the analysis result (step S37). Note that the wireless area detection device 20 may select the same connection destination in step S37 as before executing step S36. That is, if the wireless area detection device 20 does not detect a connection target area in the external information analysis process in step S36, it decides not to change the connection destination.

[0040] If the wireless area detection device 20 selects the connection target area as a new connection destination in steps S36 and S37, it transmits a connection destination switching instruction to the communication module 30 (step S38). That is, the wireless area detection device 20 transmits an instruction to the communication module 30 to switch the connection destination from the communication network of the public 5G system 60 to the communication network of the local 5G system 50. The sequence of steps S36 to S38 above corresponds to the processing of steps S13 to S15 shown in FIG. 4 and the processing of steps S21 to S22 shown in FIG.

[0041] As described above, the wireless area detection device 20 according to the present embodiment determines whether or not the device itself is present in the wireless area of the local 5G system 50, which is the connection target area, based on the external information acquired by the external information acquisition device 40 and the pre-registered connection target area information 261. When the wireless area detection device 20 determines that it is present in the wireless area of the local 5G system 50, it instructs the communication module 30 to switch the connection destination. According to the present embodiment, by applying the wireless area detection device 20 to a communication terminal that can use different wireless communication systems, it is possible to realize a communication terminal that can switch the connection destination communication network at an appropriate timing when moving between wireless areas of different wireless communication systems.

[0042] In the present embodiment, an example has been described in which video information captured by a camera is used as external information. However, the external information may be any information capable of detecting a target connection area, i.e., information capable of determining whether the wireless area detection device 20 is present in the target connection area. For example, sensor information obtainable by various sensors may be used as the external information. For example, one or more pieces of information that can be used to detect the target connection area, such as temperature, humidity, magnetism, infrared rays, and sound waves, obtainable using various sensors mounted on the communication terminal 10, may be used. Furthermore, location information such as GPS (Global Positioning System) information may also be used as the external information. Furthermore, multiple types of information may be used simultaneously as external information, such as a combination of video information and sensor information. Furthermore, there may be multiple target connection areas. In this case, multiple pieces of target connection area information 261 corresponding to the multiple target connection areas are registered in the data storage unit 26 of the area detection unit 21.

[0043] Second Embodiment Fig. 7 is a diagram showing a configuration example of a communication system 100a to which a wireless area detection device 20a according to a second embodiment is applied. In Fig. 7, the same components as those in the communication system 100 according to the first embodiment shown in Fig. 1 are denoted by the same reference numerals. Explanation of the components denoted by the same reference numerals as those in Fig. 1 will be omitted.

[0044] Like the communication system 100 in embodiment 1, the communication system 100a includes a local 5G system 50 and a public 5G system 60, and the local area in which the local 5G system 50 can be used is located within a public area in which the public 5G system 60 can be used.

[0045] In the first embodiment described above, the wireless area detection device 20 has been described as having a built-in communication module 30. However, in the present embodiment, the communication module 30 is present outside the wireless area detection device 20a, as shown in Fig. 7. The communication module 30 shown in Fig. 7 is the same as the communication module 30 built into the wireless area detection device 20 according to the first embodiment. The wireless area detection device 20a, together with the communication module 30 and the external information acquisition device 40, constitutes a communication terminal 10a.

[0046] FIG. 8 is a diagram illustrating an example of a hardware configuration of a wireless area detecting device 20a according to the second embodiment.

[0047] As shown in Fig. 8, the wireless area detection device 20a according to the second embodiment includes an external information acquisition interface 91, a memory 92, a processor 93, a power supply circuit 94, and a communication module interface 95. The external information acquisition interface 91, memory 92, processor 93, and power supply circuit 94 in Fig. 8 are similar to the external information acquisition interface 91, memory 92, processor 93, and power supply circuit 94 in Fig. 2, which shows an example of the hardware configuration of the wireless area detection device 20 according to the first embodiment. The communication module interface 95 is an electronic circuit for connecting the communication module 30, and is used when transmitting control signals to the communication module 30, etc.

[0048] The wireless area detection device 20a according to the second embodiment controls an external communication module 30 connected to a communication module interface 95, but the functional block configuration is the same as that of the wireless area detection device 20 according to the first embodiment. The detection operation of the wireless area detection device 20a for a target connection area and the control operation of the communication module 30 performed when the target connection area is detected are also the same as those of the wireless area detection device 20 according to the first embodiment.

[0049] In this way, the wireless area detection device 20a detects the wireless area of the local 5G system 50, which is the connection target area, in the same operation as in the first embodiment, and performs switching control of the connection destination of the external communication module 30. The wireless area detection device 20a according to this embodiment can achieve the same effects as the wireless area detection device 20 according to the first embodiment.

[0050] Third Embodiment Fig. 9 is a diagram showing a configuration example of a communication system 100b to which a wireless area detection device 20b according to a third embodiment is applied. In Fig. 9, the same components as those in the communication system 100 according to the first embodiment shown in Fig. 1 are denoted by the same reference numerals. Explanation of the components denoted by the same reference numerals as those in Fig. 1 will be omitted.

[0051] Like the communication system 100 in embodiment 1, the communication system 100b includes a local 5G system 50 and a public 5G system 60, and the local area in which the local 5G system 50 can be used is located within a public area in which the public 5G system 60 can be used.

[0052] In the above-described first and second embodiments, the wireless area detection devices 20 and 20a have been described, which are equipped with dual SIMs and control connection destination switching of the communication module 30 that is connectable to both the communication network of the local 5G system 50 and the communication network of the public 5G system 60. In contrast, in the present embodiment, as shown in FIG. 9 , a communication module 31 that is equipped with a public 5G SIM and can connect to the communication network of the public 5G system 60, and a communication module 32 that is equipped with a local 5G SIM and can connect to the communication network of the local 5G system 50 are present outside the wireless area detection device 20b. The wireless area detection device 20b, together with the communication modules 31 and 32 and the external information acquisition device 40, constitute a communication terminal 10b.

[0053] The basic hardware configuration of the wireless area detecting device 20b is the same as the hardware configuration of the wireless area detecting device 20a according to the second embodiment (see FIG. 8), but there are a plurality of communication module interfaces 95.

[0054] The wireless area detection device 20b according to the third embodiment controls two external communication modules 31 and 32, but the functional block configuration is the same as that of the wireless area detection device 20 according to the first embodiment. The operation of detecting a target connection area by the wireless area detection device 20b is also the same. The wireless area detection device 20b controls the operation of the communication modules 31 and 32 based on the result of the operation of detecting a target connection area.

[0055] In this way, the wireless area detection device 20b detects the wireless area of the local 5G system 50, which is the connection target area, in the same manner as in the first embodiment, and switches the connection destination of the communication terminal 10b by controlling the operation of the external communication modules 31 and 32. The wireless area detection device 20b according to this embodiment can achieve the same effects as the wireless area detection device 20 according to the first embodiment.

[0056] In each embodiment, an example has been described in which area detection is performed between the wireless area of the local 5G system 50 and the wireless area of the public 5G system 60 and the connection destination is switched, but the combination of wireless communication systems is not limited to this. Also, in each embodiment, an example has been described in which wireless areas are detected for two wireless communication systems, the local 5G system 50 and the public 5G system 60, but wireless areas may be detected for three or more different wireless communication systems. In this case, for example, some or one of the multiple available wireless communication systems is set as the wireless communication system to be used preferentially, and the data storage unit 26 of the area detection unit 21 stores connection target area information 261 corresponding to each wireless area of the wireless communication system to be used preferentially.

[0057] The configurations shown in the above embodiments are merely examples, and may be combined with other known technologies, or different embodiments may be combined with each other. It is also possible to omit or modify parts of the configurations as long as they do not deviate from the gist of the invention.
